The entire ground is illuminated for miles, for hours past midnight.

Wow, I had that happen in Mississippi a couple years ago, the whole ground was pure dark blue at three in the morning. My window was bright as well, I still remember just lying in my bed just waiting for it to be covered up so I could sleep.

Yes, it's very peculiar; Just light reflected from the sun, but enough of it to act like the sun. This phone couldn't pick up on the light, and my old film camera isn't ready, but the moon itself had a very interesting and almost explosive appearance.
