Fantasy The Wastrel's Reprise

official clown business

Okay so our name is Piss and we are the Mafioso

Your first step into the ancient library was, surprisingly, a pleasant experience. You didn't quite realize it immediately, but there was something about the smell of preserved pages and the quiet atmosphere that put your nerves at ease. It was clear the place had been untouched for centuries, and that for the time being it would be all yours to explore.

After several hours of exploration and reading, you finally came across the object of your search. Four dusty books, all in surprisingly mint condition. And, most importantly, all accurate accounts of what happened in the Realms, albeit in different time periods and different areas of the world.

Perhaps you had time to read one of these stories and learn more about this unforgettable world before you took them all and left the place for other explorers to discover.

The books are quickly dusted and skimmed. But it seems all you can rely on for now are their covers, which only reveal the centerpiece and a brief hint at their role in the story. It's a tough choice, but you'll have to choose which one you're most interested in learning about.

One of the deadliest bandits in the Wild Wastes, his rise to infamy has only just begun...

B.

Alluring, sharp-eyed, and only two feet tall. There's no mark in the city that can resist those eyes...
C.

Overconfident and eager to succeed, this Kobold will be quite the handful for the monks of Karazzim...

You find yourself in the middle of what appears to be a desert ravine, with a rickety bridge being the only thing preventing you from plummeting into the canyon fifty meters below.

But that wasn't your main concern at the moment.

Your eyes were darting back and forth, from one end of the bridge to the other. There were several people on each side, all with the same smug expression on their faces. Towards the caves to the east, the wild Kobolds you double-crossed an hour ago. Towards the town on the opposite end, the Deputy himself, and his small posse of Dwarven enforcers. It seemed the two had put their differences aside just to deal with you.

The Deputy, whose grin could be seen even through his thick facial hair, stepped forward to lean on one of the bridge posts. There was only one question from him.

"Are there going to be any last words from you before we take you to the Silvermine, Elf?"

Of course, you weren't listening. You had already spent the better part of the last half hour planning for this exact situation, and you were certain that while your opponents felt they had the clear advantage on you, the odds were stacked comfortably in your favor as always.

You'd better take a moment to remember exactly how you're going to kill everyone. What exactly was your plan again?

A. Glance at the sun for a brief second. It's directly above you and your six shooters.

B. Lift up your sombrero and whistle for the cartel to commence the ambush.

C. Vanish out of sight, sneak up to the Deputy, and reappear behind him.

D. Cast a flurry of arcane bolts, allowing you to switch places with whoever you hit.

Witches are a unique class of casters who blend aggressive teleportation with arcane magic. This particular Witch knows how to utilize his tricks especially well.

The second the Deputy finishes his sentence, you raise your staff, the end glowing with purple energy as you direct it towards the man. A split second later, five arcane bolts are launched from the staff at nearly the same exact time, directed at each member of the Dwarven posse as their revolvers are pointed in your direction immediately afterwards.

In the instant before they fire, each of the arcane bolts connects with the a member of the posse, and you will yourself to switch places with each target quickly and flawlessly. By the time the gunshots have ceased, the Dwarves realize they haven't been firing at the man on the bridge, and they were each standing in slightly different positions, causing their shots to hit each of the Kobolds on the other side, killing them instantly.

The posse slowly glanced towards the bridge to see a body, riddled with arrows from a similar attack by the Kobolds they had just killed. Except it wasn't the body of an elf, like they had expected. Lying face-up on the bridge, with an expression of shock, was the Deputy.

By the time the dwarves realize you're right beside them, you're already preparing another spell in your hands:

A. Release a ring of arcane fire to hit the two standing near you.

B. You weren't casting anything, you were trying to see if you could knock the nearest dwarf into the canyon below.

C. Let them attack. You have a surprise prepared for them.

D. Enter your name in the spell lottery and cast something completely random.
There are 700 known spells in the Realms and no guarantee the one you cast will be helpful. But it's always fun to rely on luck!
