"The Two Of Us." which is inspired by the anime feelers movie, "Hotarubi no Mori e", if you do not know what that is, or if you haven't watched it, I suggest you watch it if you're an anime fan or for curiosity, it's really good ^^.

The RP takes place in a province not far from the city, this provincial town is named "Ashire."

Now, Ashire is surrounded by a vast and seemingly endless sea of trees, its own forest named...

..Listen..................Listen very carefully now.....Can you hear it..?.......

Listen very closely.

..The bells song, the singing of the rain, the dance of the wind, the whistling of the leaves, the giggles of the rivers, the laughter of the grass, the smiles of the flowers...

Everything.. everything around you... are alive...Each one.. and in everything.. even a pebble.. they have a spirit..

.Flowers, trees.....stones.....gems...Have you ever heard...of the Firefly diamond?...

The moon had shone brightly up in the dark cloudless sky, the stars accompanying their mother at night as she shone her true beauty upon the sleeping earth.

Truly magnificent, truly beautiful.

The wind would softly whisper through the forestry the vast forest that looks like the ocean..

.Whistling here and there.. calling those who aren't seen by normal eyes to come out and play...

In the dark pathways of the forestry, there was a soft blue glow, a blue flaming lantern, a Japanese lantern, held by a woman with long silver hair that reached down her ankles. She was wearing a short white dress just above her knee by an inch. Behind her, were fireflies .. following her like a parade.

Can you hear me...?

If you would listen closely and carefully, she was singing a song, a soft, Japanese folk song....

.If you do then please heed my warning.

..Glowing teal blue butterflies fly around with the fireflies, playing, as if they were the same.

.Listen to your parents... listen to your neighbors....listen to them all

..Slowly.. she stopped walking... as she slowly turned her head and herself around to look at you.

.Never venture off into the Fireflies Forest.

.Slowly.. but surely.. her mask is revealed as she looks at you over her shoulder..A mask.. of a white cat.. In Japanese design for festivities....

..or she will find you...

The wind blew as leaves have covered her, her beautiful hair swayed... as the moon glows ever so brightly...

The song continued...

...and you will be spirited away...

++++++RP introduction finished...+++++++++++++RP modus operandi+++++++++

Ashire, a province close to the city, yet closer to the sea of its own forests. Is a peaceful town, where it is known for its folktales, folklore and myths here and there.

Rich in their crops, and used to be the top head business trademark of the land for mining of precious gems, till, their miners vanished in the look for the "Treasure", a precious gem, a diamond sister, that would glow and shine in the dark and change colours at day, the "Firefly Diamond." That was said to be lost in the forest of Fireflies.

Fireflies Forest, is said to be a place where mythical creatures, forests spirits, remain and roam freely.

And anyone who enters that forest without a string to guide them, like the labyrinth tale, is doomed to wander, and to be spirited away.

'Arah, don't venture into the forest now!' a mother would warn her child

.'Or else the no-face woman would snatch you away!'.. the wives of the village would tell the same tale.

Fishermen, farmers and everyone else who had stayed...

The tale of the No-Face woman, who remains in the forest as its protector, is said to be the one responsible for many disappearances of villagers, farmers, researchers of the paranormal and rescuers..

.They say if you venture closely to the side of the forest at night.. and listen very closely..

You'll hear her sing..

Now don't go.. don't go.. don't be so curious now..

.Haven't your parents ever taught you never to venture out at night?...

"Aerion!" a voice could be heard from all across the crop fields. The boy layed there, on the ground, hidden in between the flocks of corn. He stared kept his eyes closed, but the sun stared at him through his eyelids. He payed no mind to the voice, whom kept repeating itself "Aerion, where are you?". But no answer did he give. A slight breeze of wind pushed the crops back and forth, revealing his clumsily made scarecrow disguise. Another boy came by, a little younger, and helped Aerion off the ground. He shrugged off and pushed off his costume to reveal his clean but somewhat cheap clothes. He wore a black shirt with short sleeves, jeans and sandals. "You're supposed to be working!" the small boy whispered heavily."If they find you like this again you're in deep trouble!".

Aerion wondered around the crop fields, completely ignoring the frail voice of his friend "Where are you going, the fields are here, get back and work!". He kept dragging his hand for leaving the fields and wondering towards the town center. Aerion looked back at him and poked him in the head, pushing him away a little "Enough, Natham..." he replied, with a bored and tired tone

"This day's work is over, cut me some slack"

"It's 1 PM, the work is over when the sun goes down." Natham said, keeping close to Aerion

"That's what your dad tells you..." he replied with a smirk that kept widening on his face.

"That's what it is! Besides, you hardly did anything today. Why must you always go against the rules and wonder off instead of doing what you're told?" Natham's voiced was a little raised, but Aerion kept his calm. They were entering the city, more and more people showed up on the horizon, all washed away by everyday duties. Aerion was the only one who remained dry.

"There is so much to do, and see in this world, yet we're wasting our lives picking that damn corn or waiting for a couple of hours before we catch a half-decent fish." Natham remained quiet for some time, but he eventually got around to talking back, his words hastily leaping out of the tip of his tongue towards Aerion's ears.

"You still have a lot of free time! Besides, you can't go and explore this world without a ship. You can't climb aboard a ship without money. You cannot get money unless you work. My father gave you this job and you just throw it away!"

Aerion sighed, and continued to walk, his fast paced movement enticing and angering Natham more.

"Do you just walk and ignore me because you have nothing to say!?" he said out loud, and many people from the city turned their heads to see the scene. But Aerion kept walking on, even after Natham stopped to shout. "You can't live like this, Aerion! You can't just walk away from all your problems and expect them to go away!"

Yes, I can... his walking turned into running shortly after, before he found himself on the outskirts of the settlement, right near Firefly forest. He slowly walked in circles.. This isn't the life for me he thought to himself. It's never been the same since my father left on that expedition. All I do is show up to work I want to have no port in, than return back home while others drink themselves to an early grave. I wish I could just...leave...Leave this old province and do what I want.

As he was thinking about various events, he heard a strange sound, coming from the forest, like a water drop hitting something hard. He went in to check it out, completely forgetting what he was told about the forest. As he was wondering through the woods, he slipped on mud and fell, hitting his head on a hard rock. He could see nothing, but he could slightly hear, a muffled song whom's volume kept rising, sending Aerion to sleep. It could have been a dream, or the cold grip of reality.

It's a human.. a human... it's a human ... a human boy...

human...

..it's a human boy.... it must
be a man... he seems more mature than that..

But it's a human... look..
..look.... it's a human...... he's asleep..

is he asleep?... look..............look........... a human.....

Whispers...

It was already getting darker, and the sun was close to setting around nearing 5:40 pm. In the forest to where he was, whispers were encircling around the tree tops, forest floor and the air around him. Different voices, some sound curious, some sound bored, some sound scared, and the rest were still too obscured. Yet, no one was around, no one was there.

Rinae... Rinae .....

.... Be careful..

A soft song... a soft song began to echo softly through the woods...

Have you ever heard of the myth, of the No-Face Girl of Fireflies Forest?....

...They say if you venture closely to the side of the forest at night.. and listen very closely..

You'll hear her sing.....

It came as a hum, the words weren't clear, a song like an angel's choir, oh , can you hear? she's here.. she's here...

The trees whistled, the leaves and grass crunches. Someone was walking closer to him, but stopped behind a tree. Bare white feet that contrasts the dark greens, there was someone behind the tree. Long, long snow white hair, sometimes looking light grey, ashen grey or silver, spirals at the ends and waves at the lengths, they reach down to her ankles. She held a long stick at her right hand, and at the end of it, hanging on the loop hook, was a Japanese or Chinese styled paper lantern, it was the standing rectangular kind. It glowed a light to dark blue kind of hue, nearly ghostly, as if St. Elmo's fire was inside, it swayed and dangled silently and gently. The light frill of her short white dress, that was above knee length and sleeveless, a round neck kind that had a thin dress strap hold, swayed gently from the breeze. Her skin was revealed to be milk white from the light emanating from the lantern.

Yet her face was concealed behind the bark of the tree, she was peeking from there, as if you look. She wore a mask, the traditional, Japanese cat-like, fox-like mask, having to be in white hue, with orange, red markings and some multiple Japanese kanjis written at each side. It was held by a crimson red ribbon, tied up into a clumsy bow behind her head. She appeared to be a teen, but not that very tall. Around 5'4 ft.

And she was curious.. at the sight of the human man, passed out near a rock and on a mud puddle.

The No-Face girl is here.

His eyes tried opening many times, but his eyelids were heavier than before, like they had weights attached to them. From the darkness of his slumber, he woke up to the darkness of the night, kept away by a mysterious blue light that shun brighter than the sun. What is with that light? he wondered as he tried to push his body up, but only bringing more pain to his wounded head. He pressed his palm on the back of his head and brought it forth before his eyes, and he could see a little bit of blood, now recolored by the strange light.

What happened... he asked himself with his eyes half closed, and completely oblivious of his location Where am I? he looked around a little bit, only to see the branches and leaves of the trees, alongside the full moon which kept grinding itself up on the sky. As he rose his upper body from the ground and looked at his dirty, mud-covered legs, he instantly remembered. He fell on the rock, hence the pain of his head, and he couldn't remember how it came to him falling there. What was he doing? Where was he going. The realization was dark and sudden, his eyes flushed open at the thought. I heard a song before I lost passed out... could it be that...

"I'm in the forest!?"

he spoke out loud, before completely rising himself from the mud. He glanced around, only to see a most troublesome sight.

Her skin is white, is she even alive? What if she keeps the souls of the people she kills in that lantern!? Oh God why did I come here...

His thoughts were cluttered and Aerion was, for the most part, terrified. He was no longer the brave man he thought he was, but a scared little boy afraid of a myth. He calmed himself down and fixed his breathing before taking on a tough stance that yelled "Come at me!"

The girl only had to place one step forward, before Aerion freaked out again and ran in the opposite direction. Once again, however, he slipped on the mud For fu*ks sake, not now!. He got up fast, not looking behind, or, for that matter, where he was going, but he ran forward again.

Why did I wish to get out of town!? I swear if I go back I'l work hard and I won't complain and- his troubled thoughts were cut short as he hit a tree, probably because his head was staring at the grass. He gripped the tree and pulled himself towards it. He only looked once to see what was behind him.

She did took a step, a step to ask what was wrong, if he was alright but.... he... ran.

She somewhat expected this, and sametime it would always sadden her. And when he ran, the spirits kept talking.

Let him run let him run let him run .. yes.. yes.. run away human boy..run away...

'Don't frighten him.' Is what she wanted to tell all of them. As she followed him, she was walking, her feet made noises like normal humans do, she walked in a normal manner, she even stumbles a little like a regular human, and she hid behind a tree like a shy little girl. She didn't know what he meant by, 'Come At Me', but she does know someone when they're lost.

The only problem was, before she could help them out, they run away even further just by the sight of her, and they never come back.. unfortunately.. they don't come back alive. Or they're lost forever.

Just when she saw him hit the tree she winced, seeing him slowly looked back, she gulped, her thoughts were racing, how to not frighten anyone? Don't speak like a spirit? But she was raised by them!

Alright.. calm down.. She took a breathe and sighs in her mask, her hand was out slightly telling him to calm down. "...Are you lost, human man?..." her voice didn't echo, like in the movies or in those animes to where their voices would. No, she simply spoke in the same effect as he, except, unafraid and more nervous. "Please... do not run any further.... you will get further apart from your world...d-don't be afra-AH!!" just when she was slowly getting out of the tree and slowly approached him, she slipped at the slippery grass and fell face first down the ground, letting go of the lantern, she groaned and whimpered, rolling to her side as she sat up and held her head, her lantern beside her, constantly glowing. "..a-afraid.." ...she continued.

She tried... you have to give her credit for that.

"...Are you lost, human man?..."

Her words were calm and kind, almost like she meant no harm. Could that be it? Could she be friendly? No. It was impossible in his mind. If she was so kind, then why are were the stories so cold and horrific? She's toying with me he thought. Just like a fiend, she tricks me into thinking she's innocent and when I turn my back I'm done for...I can't trust her...

But he had nowhere to go, nowhere to run, the forest was dense, and he had no sense of direction in the dark of night. He had to act normal, like he believed her. The girl slipped on grass and he let out a small chuckle. Seems like everyone is falling tonight...

She told him not to run, and to cease being afraid, but Aerion still had his doubts. He rose from the ground and slowly approached her, ensuring himself that she is in fact a living girl. Multiple thoughts ran through his mind, but he eventually came to the conclusion that if she was indeed the atrocity people make her to be, she would have ended him by now. With only about a meeter between them, Aerion spoke with a trembling voice.

"H-hi...I'm..uhh..my na-name is..eh..." He couldn't do it. he couldn't just say his name. And he kept the girl waiting. Who knows what she would do if she would get impatient "Arah!" he spoke out a random name, making it somewhat clear that he was lying, but as terrified as he was, the girl probably thought he was just afraid to speak "And who are you? You...you are not going to h-hurt me r-right?"

The girl whimpered as she slowly sat up, holding her head, she only gave a shaky sigh and frowned behind her mask as it would only tilt slightly.

"W-Why would I even do that...?" she asked him in a way that she was offended, honestly, how many times must people ask her this then attack her after saying she wouldn't? Well, they would usually run and fall off a cliff to their own demise or get eaten by something they can't and normally see. She looked up at him as she continued, "..I-I can't even fight to protect myself.. I only have a lantern..." she looked at the fallen lantern. "U-unless that's dangerous...if it is then I wouldn't know how to use it...." she gave a sigh as she looked up at him.

Slowly, she stood up, only to slip again, squealing, she was a clumsy girl indeed. Falling back flat on her back, she gave a small painful moan. "...A-ah nice to meet you, Arah." she totally.

She totally believed him...

Someone facepalm please...

She sat up once again, now her dress was dirties by it as she stood up, clinging onto a tree like how a little girl would when trying to cling onto their mother's sleeve. "..I-I'm.. I'm Rinae..." she said gently as she looked at him through her mask. "..At least.. that's the name they all gave me.." she added absentmindedly as she looked around, then looked down.. wondering how to ensure to him she's really solid, real, like him, not like an illusion who can make awesome sound effects or something. She looked at her lantern, maybe, if he would touch it, maybe she can prove that her lantern isn't a weapon and is solid! "C-can you please...lend me my lantern?" she pointed to the staff of it just beside his feet in a few inch rolls away.

He wanted to believe that she was innocent, but a part of him just refused that. He chuckled a little bit more when she slipped again, but he didn't really hesitate to get her lantern. When he crouched to get it, he kept staring at the lantern. The blue light was just so strong, and he couldn't understand what he could radiate something like that. He rose it from the ground and approached Rinae

"Who are they? Who gave you your name?" he asked, raising his eyebrow. He extended his arm with the lantern, somewhat afraid for her to touch him. He kept staring at her mask, wondered what was behind it, what was she hiding, and what was her story.

Oddly, she was just as scared to touch him as he was as she looked up at the taller male, seeing he was staring at her mask, she looked down at his hand and made sure her hand took the staff without being so close to her own hand.

don't let the human touch you..

She nodded her head to him as a thank you, now gripping onto the staff of the lantern as it glow brightly just enough to illuminate their area. She gave a soft sigh when she heard him ask, the wind would only slowly sway as she slowly looked up at the moon, her moonlight hair gently swaying with it as some singing of the birds were heard, the sound of crickets, everything echoing yet it sounded like it echoed a lot more than it should.

"The Forest spirits.. gave me that name..." she softly said truthfully as she looked at him. Behind her mask she grew afraid, thinking or perhaps expecting him to run, laugh , throw stones or whichever those before him did. She just prayed and wished he wouldn't, she didn't want him to end up like the rest before him. She slowly turned fully to him as her free hand gripped to the skirt of her dress. "...I am very sure your people have talked about me...please.... I mean no harm... the demise of your men here.. is of not my doing.. but their own.." she tried to explain to him, like the rest, but she wondered..

Would he have the same demise? the same end? Begone, like the rest?

"...If you are not with me here.. the more it is dangerous for you.." she tried to at least persuade him, even if it was all of a sudden info. There are spirits here who loves human flesh. "So please... do not be afraid of me....Arah."

Now all she did was to wait for his next move.. the spirits were already whispering but they were so vague now, so obscure..

Little did this man know..

Whatever decision he will make..... will change his life...perhaps...and maybe...forever.

Aerion was confused beyond words. He wanted to believe her, but it seemed unreal. Forest spirits? The girl was talking out of a fantasy book. She was aware of the rumors, and it seemed like she wanted to save Aerion from whatever was within the forest. A part of him kept him clinging to reality, kept him cautious and realistic. What if this girl was lying? What if she spoke like that to lure him to his death? He had no way of knowing her intentions, and he met good liars before, she could just be one of them.

He circled around a little bit, with his eyes pinned on the green grass, now darker in light of the moon and the lantern. What what he to do? Run? Even if he escaped, he would have ended up in the town he despised and doing what he hated. He wanted to see more of this world, maybe this was her chance? But he couldn't trust her on words alone.

"Listen, Rinae.." he stood in front of her, glaring at her mask from time to time but then switching his view somewhere else. "I want to believe you... but I haven't seen any spirits and the stories are only about you." he realized he was being hurtful. "Maybe... if you would..."

He slowly moved his open hand towards her mask "Remove the mask?" he was a few inches away from her head, but he kept going slowly.

Her eyes widened as she suddenly started to shake, but she kept firm and gripped onto her staff, gulping. She squeaked slightly, as if she was the one who has their life on the line, and actually, that was true. "...A-Alright..b-but please.... touch only the mask...please.." why.. why did it sound like she begged him to only touch her mask? But with that, she took a step forward, unlike him, she was very trusty to nearly everyone she sees.

Was it because she yearned for another face of company? She kept her thoughts still, the spirits, she felt like they were getting too curious of him. She had to show him, if this was how he and his people sees the trust or something that would confirm the truth. There was nothing wrong with it, right?

As she would feel his hand against her mask, her shaky other free hand went to the back of her head lowly, and pulled the bow to be untied, and when the mask was taken by him, that was when the No-Face girl was seen.

She indeed, she indeed had a face. A beautiful face, her face was white and her eyes, her eyes were night sapphire blue, if you look closely, they were in a starlight pattern, as if you take a starlit up night sky and brighten it with shades of sapphire to teal blue and place it into her two eyes. They were beautiful, innocent looking and somewhat scared. Her lips were rosy blood red that accented her pale white face, her hair was snow white, and her bangs covered her forehead. Her lashes were long as she slowly blinked, it was a young lady, a teen. "D-Don't be scared.." it was as if she was saying it more to herself than to him as her blue lantern light accented the teal blue of her eyes more, and the illusionary starlight in her eyes glittered.

His eyes widened when he saw her face. He expected an atrocity or something similar, why else would she cover it constantly with a mask? But instead, she was a beautiful, gloriously so. He never saw someone like her in the village Why would she spend her time locked away in this forest?

He stepped back, amazed by the way her hair fluttered through the air as the mask fell in his hands. His concerned face soon faded away as a smile was painted across his face. She was scared of me touching her he wondered as his smile turned into more of a smirk. It started to get awkward, so Aerion quickly changed the subject "Err...so, eh... tell me more about those spirits. You said they named you? Were you like...kidnapped by them?"

He was still confused about the situation, but he wanted to know more, as was in his nature. The girl acted strange, like a child meeting a human for the first time, so he just imagined dreadful things about those spirits. But he couldn't know, asking seemed wrong, and yet he did it.

She nearly jumped when her mask dropped, but the sametime her lips parted rosily as she shook slightly. She was relieved that e didn't run, and also relieved he didn't touch her at anyway. She slowly gulped and looked up at him with her eyes as her hair swayed nearly ghostly. His question now finally registering in her mind.

Human boy .. a human boy.... he removed her mask he removed her mask..

tsk tsk...

tsk tsk..

Rinae.. Rinae...

Rinae..

Be careful.. don't touch him...

Human... don't touch her..

be careful.. be careful..

"..I was raised by them...yet I am not a forest spirit myself...." she answered softly, now even clearer even if it was already clear when she spoke behind her mask, though she did not answer his inside question to why she wears the mask. She slowly bends down to take a hold of her mask and held it up with her hand as she hugged it close to her chest, looking up at him. "..There are evil spirits.. but they are good spirits...like the one who lives in this lantern.." she said softly as she slowly turned her eyes to the blue lit glowing lantern at the end of her staff, she only gave it a soft smile. "..The blue fireflies are inside of this lantern...they are faeries..." breathing slowly, and steadily, she looked back at him slowly. "Arah... the reason why you don't see other spirits is because I am with you.. if I am not.. then you shall know why the men and women from your town have vanished..." she said with a small and saddened tone as her eyes softened, looking down at her barefeet.. she bit her bottom lip as she looked at him with her eyes.

Human boy .. a human boy.... he removed her mask he removed her mask..

tsk tsk...

tsk tsk..

Rinae.. Rinae...

Rinae..

Be careful.. don't touch him...

Human...
don't touch her..

be careful.. be careful..

"...Are you still in doubt..?" she asked him softly, as her expression slowly saddened.. "It is alright if you are... the ones before have done nearly the same..." she said 'nearly' in a slight painful way. In a way she had to do something to protect herself, because..

If... If a human touches me... she thought to herself as she slowly frowned, and that frown did not suit her. She slowly looked back up at him, and gave a small smile as she gazes at him... she has to admit, this young man before her, he was ....intriguing...

As she spoke, his mouth was half opened as his eyes stared at her beauty. The tale she span, it couldn't have been made up, he was sure of it, the girl was innocent. He instantly switched his view, now trusting her in full. This girl wasn't lying, he could tell, now that he saw her face. And she was raised by spirits? That one tale was hard to believe, but she could talk properly, and acted like the next person. He was mostly amazed by the spirits she talked about, and his excitement got in the way of his clear thinking

"I'm not in doubt, in fact, I wanna see those spirits! Will they teach me about the forest..or even talk to me?" before she could respond he made a step forward towards her "Will I get a mask and a lantern as well? Oh, and the faeries, will I get to meet some too?" he moved closer, now clearing stepping in her private space "You said there are evil spirits, right? Are they fighting with the good ones? And you help them, right? The good ones - by keeping humans away from the bad ones!"

His smirked as he briefly looked down at her, amazed by his own made-up story "Rinae, please show me more of the forest!" he extended both of his arms in order to grip her shoulders.

Her eyes widened slowly in every step he got closer with, she would tremble as she saw his eyes, her eyes would widen more, glowing in such surprise. He was indeed taller than her, infact, he towered her, his body was bigger than her small frame and she instantly felt as if he devoured her by just being infront of her.

By the time he was already invading her personal space her back was already against the tree bark, instantly her cheeks flushed and her heart started to race, never before a human man had gone to this reaction. Was he sure he was human? Everytime he spoke, she could feel as if his words caressed her cheek. And that was when she realized she could feel his breathe as he was speaking, which made her flustered face go redder as she gripped onto her mask.

She panicked...

Don't touch her..! don't touch her...!

...don't touch her.. human boy don't touch her!

Don't touch her..

If
a human touches you...

Rinae...
Rinae.....!

Her instincts suddenly kicked in, she was gripping hard to the lantern but she noticed her arm was at his side and his arm was above her arm. It won't do any good to hit him with it, it'll force him to fall to her. She can't kick him either, there's no room to KICK! She was suddenly screaming and grabbed her mask suddenly pushing it to his face making him wear it like that. "P-Please! P-Please don't touch ME!!!" she squeaked, her voice has never been this high before as if she was on the verge of tears, pushing the mask on his face as she panted heavily, which looked vaguely wrong but she was still shaken.

She had slumped slightly, before he took her shoulders she had slumped slightly, and so his hands were now against the tree bark. Her other hand on the front of the mask, was placed firmly now on his face, it was a good thing the mask was big so it could fit him, she made a side remark on how it suits him somehow. But the closeness was so.... odd...

And her heart broke a little.. because in secrecy.. she yearned for human contact...

She shivered as there was silence between them.. then she explained, "I--I'm sorry..." she began as she breathes heavily and slowly, slowly calming down. "...I-I am... no longer human.... If you.." her eyes softened as she looked up at him, saddest blue eyes you'll ever see on beauty.

"...One touch of a human...and I am gone forever."

And that was true, it would explain why she gets startled a lot, and why she seems to be a lot more fearful than him. As if she was the one who was lost, her breathe now brushing against his chest, her eyes looked as if she could see his eyes through the mask. "....I could show you this forest... and let you meet everyone... as much as you would like..." she had to make sure he understood. I.. I want him around... She never had anyone to show around, no one to talk nor be with, and she was now frightened even more, what if, what if what she did would make him go away? "...I-I would want to show you the forest...." she added, blushing terribly as she bowed her head slightly.

She didn't want...

She didn't want to lose her chance of human interaction, for decades she's been trying to be friends with them... but they all run and cower away...

She slowly looked up at him, as she had a small spark of courage to lean against his chest, making sure her arm that leans on his chest was on his clothes and not on his skin. She looked up at him, he was tall indeed, she had to lift her head up to him,

"... I want to show you everything... Arah..."

She screamed, and pushed the mask on his face. Why? he thought to himself, his saddened face now hidden behind the mask What have I done wrong? He instantly felt bad, but kept himself from falling again, instead taking a step back to maintain balance. Rinae revealed her motives - She was afraid of touching. Claiming she wasn't human seemed like a lie to Aerion. She looked human, she acted human, but she was raised by spirits? And if anyone touched her, she would vanish. It made no sense to him, his excitement faded away for a little. All of the humans that entered the forest, all of them, ran away? Aerion was the only exception? It was hard to believe, people could have just touched her, even by accident, and she would be gone. All those thoughts clustered in Aerion's head, guiding him through a road of mixed feelings about Rinae and the forest.

Was this really a place for him?

Was she spinning a lie the whole time?

For all he knew, this could have been a dream. She asked him, no, she wanted him to see the forest. Rinae was a strange girl, that much was certain. Isolation could do that, I guess... He took the mask off, looking down at her, he gave a warm look accompanied by a sly smile. The green of his eyes contrasted the grass and the leaves. Rinae was now leaning on his chest, probably avoiding skin contact. He wanted to embrace her more or less, but she would just freak out again...or worse. In the end, he got his wish. He was going to see the forest, explore new lands and get away from the town. He left it all behind for this forest, for this girl. A girl who still called him by a name that was not his.

My name is not Ara- he whispered, his voice so silent he couldn't hear it himself. He couldn't tell her, he couldn't accept that he lied to her. The girl revealed her face, her weakness, and offered him the entire forest, and he did nothing but endanger her life and lie. No. He was not Aerion anymore, he had left the town and it's boring life. He would embrace the new name, the new stage, but remain the same within.

He gently touched the end of a part of her hair, twirling it for a few fast moments before he let go and spoke loudly

"Thank you, Rinae. You're doing more good for me than you might think" his smile widened, as his head turned to the tall trees. "Lead on, let's see what this forest's about!"

She slowly blinked at his words, she would've yelled or yelped more likely when she thought he was going to touch any part that was skin. But no, he touched her hair, and oddly, even if she can't feel what her hair feels like how skin does with contact, it was, soothing, to say at least. She never had that feeling before, the first person who have ever seen her wanted to play with her, she complied for she was a child back then too yet. The forest..

The spirits... they.. took the boy away.

In the most violent and scariest way, the next to the next, it had happened all the same, the spirits and the forest protected her, ironically, the people of the town said that she was the protector.

Seeing their demise, she resorted into wearing a mask to scare them off, the kids and all. Sometimes, to try and even look like a spirit, because if she doesn't wear that mask.....

If she doesn't have that mask..

"Alright, please do not fall behind..." she said as she gently and carefully got her mask from his hands. Now putting it back on as much to his dislike of it, she found no reason to keep her face revealed, besides, she has to wear it. There was a reason for everything she does, everything she says. Taking the staff of her lantern, she turned to him as her dress freely flowed, her bare feet not hurting in the least bit of discomfort. Looking up ahead, she began to walk, as the lantern would glow brightly, and brightly , as if to shroud them or enlighten their spot or space as they walked.

But the trees seemed to be restless, when there was no wind. The branches moved and the leaves rustled when there was no scientific reason or anything logical to explain i----

"..Rinae...be careful.."

A sudden large and low growling sound was heard that was unearthy, the branches suddenly went to somehow look like it was about to take hold of her, the branches and twigs now vines her arms, legs, waist and neck as if it was a huge hand, holding her and protecting her. From who?...

From Aerion..

From him.

Though she remained calm, lifting her head, she would only speak cheerfully. "I know....Mr. Oak...please do not worry.. he is my friend.." she said with uttermost confidence that the branches flinched and froze before it continued, nearly taking her away.

Slowly, it began to move away as it growled towards Aerion, as if it were to open up his huge mouth below the boy and devour him into hell.

"..Do not touch her...boy..."

By the time the voice echoed, more and more spirits started to whisper, whisper a tad loudly. Rinae slowly looked over her shoulder, she was now fearing, fearing he might get taken when she looked away again. She slowly turned back to him and walked to be closer to him, "Here.." she softly said behind her mask, as she slowly gave the lantern staff to him, pushing it into his hand for him to hold it, once he grasped, did she let go. She looked up at him, "..Do not let go of that lantern..." she said carefully to him as her hand went to the lantern itself, and gently poked the glass of it, now it was clear, it was solid glass. Very, very light glass that from afar it looked like paper.

She tapped on it, "...Will....give us more light please.." Will?...

Did she just talked to the lantern?

And once she did, there was a voice answering her, it was as low as Aerion's own manly voice. "...As you wish it..." it was an echoing voice, a whispering echoing dark disembodied voice. Once the echo effect was fading, the light from the lantern glowed even bright, giving them more illumination at their spot, and if Aerion noticed, shadow like looking spirits, and smoke like beings suddenly lashed and whipped themselves away, back unto the ground and darkness.

Rinae looked at them and gave a soft sigh, "...They're all too protective sometimes..." she wasn't fazed, she wasn't fazed at all. Why? Because she really thought he did not doubt her for a second anymore, so she acted a tad more casual, and a bit more cautious.

He could be the exemption..

If, he lasts at all.

Someone...Something, was speaking? In the forest? Could that be one of the spirits? he kept asking himself. Whatever it was it warned Rinae to be careful. Aerion could think of multiple things. Maybe the spirit sensed some wolves, maybe that was its way of greeting her. But the real answer dawned upon him when her lower body was entangled with roots. Was it him? She had already mentioned that the human touch is deadly to her, but the spirit went so far as to cloak her body in roots. The roots took the form of a hand, and when Rinae spoke to it, Aerion saw it as a talking..tree. His jaw was dropped and he could barely stand on his feet. A talking tree... That proved that Rinae wasn't lying one bit. The tree...Mister Oak, he growled at him, but he did no more than step back a little. He was used to reactions like that from the village, people always viewing him with cold eyes, marking him as worthless.

In the forest, he was a trespasser, that much he could understand. But the girl was like him once, a trespasser too, and now the forest adores her. That thought gave him some motivation, a reason to go on in the forest. He already viewed that tree that clearly despised him, befriending him and using his roots to shield Aerion from danger. "Do not touch her" he kept hearing those words. He couldn't understand the chemistry behind it yet, but it was a real deal with Rinae and touching. More voices raged, like a stadium of whispers, all bestowed upon Aerion. He couldn't make what each voice was saying, due to there being so many of them. What did they want, what were they going to do with him. He looked at Rinae, whom appeared to be concerned as well.

Frightened

That's how he was. He held tight to the staff when she gave it to him, like a torch that kept away the wolves, the whispers diminished when she spoke to the faeries of the staff. A stronger light radiated from it, clearing away a path in the darkness. The shadows where whispering, but upon seeing the light they faded away into the branches. Aerion was breathing heavily. Is it over? he thought, afraid not to come as a coward in Rinae's eyes. He quickly calmed himself down, trying to unleash his inner explorer. "Why were they whispering?" he asked, looking down at her from a small distance. "More importantly...what were they saying? Are they so scared about me..." he blushed a little, without realizing he made a longer pause than he had to "Touching you?"

Rina slowly turned her head back to look at him. It was hard to even tell her emotions from the masks she hid behind. She gave a soft chuckle as she slowly lifted her head to look up at the night sky obscured by taller tree branches. "...When I was an infant... I was abandoned here by my mother.. to die.. because she couldn't care for me... and my father had left her..." she began as she started to walk. Making sure he was always beside her as the flames dances inside the glass lantern.

The spirits slowly died out their whispering as she lead him through the forest, "...I cried.. and cried.... and it echoed in this forest.... soon.. the spirits found me... and because of their kindness.. especially the Forest Spirit." she jumped over a huge root. Fortunately to Aerion it didn't budge nor move like Mr. Oak. "..I was meant to die on that day though."

The sound of rushing water, and the gentle drips of water whispering off grass blades was heard. They soon ventured into the view of a small steam with stepping stones on them, lightly, she jumped onto one of them so soundlessly and lightly, her hair just flowing so elegantly as if they were on slo motion. Her pale feet landed on one stone as the moonlight shines down, the water sparkled as soon.. these glowing little dots flew around her. Ever so gently, ever so silently, the bright small lights looked like souls dancing around together, perhaps faeries? sprites?...

But.. they...

They were fireflies...

They were nearly making her image as if it was glowing so brightly, they would slowly go and fly and hover around him as well. Curious to his being, they have not seen a human stick around so long with obvious panic. There were small chuckles, giggles, like little curious happy children, some of them saying yay! yay! into his ears as the fireflies flooded the whole area, nearly making the whole place light up.

"....so... in order to keep me alive...the Forest Spirit casts a spell on me."
she continued in a soft tone as she stretched her arms out wide, the fireflies just resting on her shoulders and arms as she gave a soft giggle, tilting her head as if she was being tickled. "...and I lived on.... and continued on growing.. aging so slowly...I could live on forever...but in one condition.." she slowly looked at him straight behind her mask. "..I can't touch my own kind......If I do.. I will vanish.. forever...." her arms slowly moved as the fireflies flew around her head as she gave a soft sigh and beckoned Aerion to come over to her, carefully, of course as the water continued on. "...because once a human touches me... the spell will break.... and it can't be cast twice on the same person.." she started to step back a bit with a hidden smile.

"..Haha careful!" she warned him as the sprites of beautiful little girls and women starts to surround him, beauty beyond compared in every one of them. One blondy kissing his cheek as they giggled, they flew around him in curiosity, some of them resting in his hair. There was clapping heard and it was from Rinae, out of amusement and happiness hidden. "Haha!! Look they like you! they like you!! The sprites like you!!" she cheered..

She had never brought anyone this far...so far to even tell him why he can't touch her..

Unknowingly to him, the world he ventured was slower..

As she told him her story, his eyes were widened, and his smile was warm. He could relate to some parts of her story, and he did feel a little sorry for her. But he didn't feel sorry as much as he lusted for a chance like Rinae's. The way he saw it, she had the entire forest for herself, and an eternity to live out her youth, without having to work or deal arrogant people. But if he said anything he would offend the girl and come out insensitive. He chose to shut up and listen.

As they walked forward he could begin to see the beauty of the forest, matched only by Rinae's own cuteness and elegance. Out of the water, small blue lights rose up to her head, some childishly laughing and cheering. Those were no mere fireflies, they were like the faeries from the books. Aerion couldn't help but smile at such sight. Rinae extended her arms and the small beings settled themselves on top of them. She finished her story there, but he had mixed feelings about it. Rinae started giggling herself as the fireflies approached Aerion. He could see clearly now, they had bodies, small versions of women and girls, all flying around him. He could even feel the small lips of a faerie on his cheek, as the others traveled through his hair like it was a tropical jungle. Aerion was happy, and probably just as curious as the faeries. What he couldn't understand was Rinae. She was happy herself - that much he could understand even without seeing her face. He could kill her with a touch, but she wasn't scared, she wasn't afraid that Aerion might mess up the forest. She was a good host, and the way she acted made Aerion feel like he was a good guest.

Out of curiosity, grabbed one of the faeries in his hair, gently, if somewhat forcefully, and made her rest in his hands. She looked somewhat scared, but she kept her smile. Aerion brought his palms closer to her face to look at her further, but she flew away as he stared. He quickly shook his head and turned his view back to Rinae. "This is incredible!" he said with a wide smile "I should have came to this forest years ago." He jumped on a stepping stone, close to hers, making it float in all direction. It soon became hard to maintain balance. He looked over at Rinae and her flawless way of floating. "You had a lot of training with those things, don't you?" he asked as he barely kept himself from falling.

"..You'll learn how to very soon.. really.. I'll teach you a secret one day.." she gave a soft whisper and a soft chuckle that didn't muffle behind her mask. She turned her head and started to walk onto the otherside, as the faeries would just fly around them, they seemed to be a lot more interested at Aerion.

Maybe because.. he was a guy? Small giggles of young women, little girls, all around him would be whispering to each other here and there. Some finding homage in his hair, some already making a forestry bed, or bushes here and there, sleeping inside of his hair, some just dangled weightlessly. Some were just rolling in his hair, the little girl faeries would sleep at the top of his crown. She looked back at him and gave a chuckle, noticing how fond they were of him as he held the lantern. She returned into leading him, just casually strolling in the forest, everywhere was a place to be seen, perhaps it'll be more enjoyable if it was in the morning. Right now, the place was just filled with fireflies..

Or so.. that's what people would think...

"..It seems like the faeries love you.." she commented cheerfully as she looked over her shoulder while walking. "..Because of that, you'll be able to ask for their help.. just make sure not to stop them when they dance..." she warned him, thought it was quite vague as they went deeper and deeper into the forestry. She was leading him specifically with a smile, as she suddenly turned around him, clasping her hands together. "Aah! Let me bring you to their king!"

Now..as you can see.. if this was a different scenario...

She'll sound like a damn wacko that escaped from the Asylum...
