It was a hot summer day, the air was dry and the sun was beating down on the hard streets of district twelve without mercy. No one was in the mines today, no one was out by the hob or in the street either. Today would be a day without work, everyone was required to be in their homes or at the square to watch the reading of the card for the second quarter quell. One particular person, sixteen year old Haymitch Abarnathey, was standing in the square, watching on the big screen that was above the humble stage as President Snow read from the card. "As a reminder that for every Capitol citizen that died, two rebels took their place, twice as many tributes will enter the arena this year, two boys and two girls from each district."
The words sent a chill through the spines of every soul in district twelve. Particularly those who had to put their names in for the reaping. Twice the chance of being chosen. For those who had signed up for tesserae, this meant that the odds had again been stacked against them. This year your had two choices if you lived in the seam. Let your family starve by not signing up for tesserae, or put yourself at even greater risk if you did. (Almost got carried away and wrote a whole book there, but then I remembered I was writing a starter for a roleplay)
