Tende altum, volare altius
Name: Kallin Antorfell
Age: 22
RP From: https://www.rpnation.com/threads/fablewood.104846/
Genre: Historical Fantasy
Combat?: Yes
Picture: Day and night respectively.
Appearance: Kallin’s mage robes are made of a thin, brown suede with purple cotton trim. They are tattered and worn from his two years of wandering travel. Underneath the robes he wears a crisp, clean fencing shirt tucked into faded striped pants which in turn are tucked into his boots. He carries a gnarled oak staff to better channel his casting. During the day his eyes glow bright yellow, wreathed in the black mist that serves as his face. By night he is a roughly handsome, square-jawed man with unruly dark hair and pale blue eyes, though he usually prefers to hide his appearance under his hat and scarf.
Personality: Kallin is sardonic and pretends to be uninterested in most things. He has been highly anti-social in the past but knows how to put on the airs and graces that get him by in society. His grey disposition has been carefully cultivated ever since the curse was placed upon him, which made it impossible for him to truly fit in anywhere.
Despite having a rather dour outlook on life in general he takes things in stride, feeling rather proud of the abilities he has. He has a sharp mind and a smart mouth and uses both freely.
His favorite saying is: “Better a creative novice, than an adept with no imagination.”
A weakness of his is that Kallin never knows when to let people in. His emotional defenses run deeper than the magic in him. When the curse dissipates each night he also loses the potency of his magic, he can still cast spells, but they are much weaker. Even during the day his casting does have limits. He can tire to the point where casting is no longer an option.
Though not really a weakness he does have a soft spot for animals, the non-talking kind.
Backstory: Kallin is a black mage, cursed with his powers two years ago. He had to be told his name and age by the apprentices in the tower where he studied. His memory before that time is completely gone. He cannot remember his family, his friends or if he had ever cared for anyone but himself. He cannot even remember how he was cursed in the first place. The only possession he has before that time is the small pewter figure of a cat, which he guards more closely than anything else.
Kallin hales from a place called FableWood, a realm created by the dreams and stories of the ‘real worlders’ that has gained physical form. This world is still very much tied to its origins however and as people from the real world begin to forget the old stories, so too is FableWood vanishing piece by piece.
When Kallin first heard of the spell to bring humans into his world he argued against it fervently. Hearing about the fantastical deeds they have done since being in FableWood has changed his mind however. He has decided that the best way to save his home is to seek them out and join them.
Abilities: Kallin has a strict control over elemental magic; fire, water, earth and air. He has studied for most of his life to gain the abilities he now has, which are augmented by the curse he bears. His powers are not inexhaustible however and he takes on physical fatigue for every spell cast. The extent of his powers is limited to summoning fireballs, coating things in ice, creating localized tremors and small whirlwinds. Of course he cannot create elements out of thin air, merely use what is present around him. Fighting in a desert would force him to abandon any spell that required water, and on an airship he could not use an earth power etc.
Before training as a mage Kallin was quite an accomplished thief, and carries some of those skills too.
The curse is double-edged, as most curses are; when the sun is in the sky his magic is augmented greatly and he can attempt his most complicated spells. The catch however is his solid body vanishes, and he becomes nothing but a dark mist inside his tattered traveling robes, though he can still feel pain as if his body was physically present. By night he is allowed to take his human form, but his magic suffers greatly and he is, for all intents and purposes, a normal FableWood human.
Other: Kallin: “I think you have all you need from me, or…you have all I’d like you to have.”
