Fantasy The Minstrels on the Street

ratmeat

gay ass twink

20th century New York was quite a spectacle, a catalyst for many artistic movement in the 1900s, and a hub for the creative arts. However, some gifted people from that time took a step forth, using their music as a way to bend reality, time, and the thought process of the human brain. These musicians performed on streets, in alleys, and on the subway. They did their work underground, and without much notice. This is their story, the ups and downs, and their impact on the rest of the city.

To make a character application, here is the template:

Name:

Age:

Instrument(s) they play:

Personality (5 traits or more):

Backstory (1-2 paragraphs):

Physical Appearance:

OH BOY I LIKE THIS ALREADY

Name: Chantae-Simone "Shimabukuro"

Age: 23

Instrument she plays: Piano and ukulele. She also sings.

Personality: She's out-spoken, curious, and very social. She's also stubborn, but passionate, and very.. vocal. (Literally.)

Backstory: Chantae was originally from a wealthy, Hispanic-Filipino family, the Reynosos. She lived in her family's estate, where her father (a successful businessman) urged her to take private piano lessons. Chantae reluctantly complied, but only because she and her instructor was actually her mother, Winona Reynolds, a professional pianist and a successful music teacher. Her lessons would take place every weekday, when she came home from school and would end once her father came home from work. Chantae's mother began to end lessons early as soon as she heard her daughter's voice and saw that she had an interest in the ukulele. At 15, Winona purchased a ukulele for Chantae and gave it to her, all done in secret. Because Chantae had spent much of her time on YouTube, watching ukulele players and watching basic tutorials, she immediately began playing. She taught herself to play and was taught how to sing by her mother after every lesson. Unfortunately, at nearly 19, her father came home early and walked in on Chantae singing and playing her ukulele. He was outraged that she "wasted time and money on a useless instrument and her voice", and because her mother said nothing of it. He immediately began to yell at the both of them, and proceeded to take Chantae's ukulele and burn it.

With that, Chantae packed up clothes that night, along with a rather large sum of money she'd accumulated over years of generous allowances, and left the estate in an act of rebellion, anger, and animosity. She called a cab to her aunt's house, explaining why she was there. She lived with aunt for a while and decided to take on a different last name, 'Shimabukuro', for her ukuleleist idol, Jake Shimabukuro. After saving most of the money her mother gave her, pooling it with cash she'd earned from working small jobs, she packed up what she had (along with a ukulele she bought while living with her aunt) and left near the time of her 21st birthday. Chantae began living in a small apartment (not quite) nearby, and played her ukulele on the streets. She balanced playing for certain times while working at a music shop. One day, out of pure curiosity, she played at a subway station. There, she met a few other players and became well-acquainted with them.

(From there, I believe it's near where the roleplay starts.)

Physical Appearance: Chantae is a little chubby, and has a curvy figure and a slightly round face. She has lots of dark, curly hair that matches with her tan skin, although she has grey-ish green eyes. She's also a little petite, standing at only 5'1".

I'm making a character for this using the application, haha. ANYhow here goes.

Name: Tucker Matthews

Age: 19

Instruments played: Guitar and saxophone

Personality: Obsessive but cheerful. Pretty gullible and has trouble reading facial expressions and body language which is the main reason he sometimes has trouble in social situations. He still makes the effort to engage, and has been progressing in interaction. He is extremely knowledgeable in areas including music artists, navigation, and science fiction stories. He is somewhere on the autism spectrum, but it isn't specified.

Backstory: Tucker Matthews was born to Miranda and Dewey Matthews in Bristol, England. His father had worked in the British aerospace industry until he was hired for a well paying job at NASA when Tucker was 14. The transition to America had been awkward, and Tucker had a very difficult time adjusting to the U.S. It didn't help that his mother was a Peace Corps Volunteer, who was gone for a long time. She worked abroad in Micronesia for two years, without Tucker and his father. They of course, did visit her, however the distance between them for such an extended period of time left all members of the family emotionally vulnerable. When Tucker's mother left, he dedicated his time to practicing guitar and saxophone, working on albums never sold, and songs never heard by anyone but him. Him and his father did grow close, and they read science fiction novels, primarily H.G. Wells and Isaac Asimov. His mother arrived back in America when he was 15. For a year after that, his parents' relationship was strained, and he was put in a position that forced him to take a side. They eventually decided to have a divorce, but before they could go to court over custody, Tucker was long gone.

He hitchhiked his way to New York City. He initially thought of taking a Greyhound, but the cost was too great, and he needed to spare money for food. He brought his guitar and saxophone, plus a bag of clothes and books, however that was all. In NYC, he performed on the streets and lived on the streets of Brooklyn. He played mostly on the streets quite close to subway stations, so when he was hungry, he could rush down to the train station stores and grab food. He eventually raised enough money to rent out a shabby apartment. It wasn't the best, but he had a roof over his head, and was making a meager, but steady income. He eventually started to realize that when he played, it started messing with his vision, and people often reacted strangely. The more he played, the more this happened. One day, when he was playing guitar in a subway station, a swarm of subway rats began to gather within the middle of the tracks and move towards him. Before they could find a way out of the crevice, they were hit by a train, and Tucker stopped playing immediately. He was shocked, and spent time contemplating what happened. He decided to experiment with what he could do with his music. He learned through trial and error, and was able gain some level of mastery with his powers. At first, he thought he was the only person with these skills, however soon he would realize that he wasn't alone. (roleplay starts here)

Physical Appearance: Brown shaggy hair, dresses in layers, kinda tall and lanky. If you look at him, he has a doglike appearance almost??  His height is 5'11''.
