Realistic or Modern The Merge

Killed by the inernet
In a wealthy neighborhood known as High Rolls, they have the best facilities and schools imaginable. The neighborhood used to be gated off to those outside of it, in an attempt to keep things clean, beautiful, and pure. So far, it has maintained it's beautiful image and striking purity.

Then there's the neighboring town by the name of Solime, which is known for being crime ridden and dark. Starting out just as beautiful as High Rolls, it fell into poverty whilst trying to compete with them. Schools have been shut down everywhere and it's dangerous to go anywhere alone.

Feeling bad for the other town, their new, young, and naïve mayor decided to allow students from both areas to attend their largest school, High Roll's Academy, for no cost beginning this upcoming school year. This means that students from both areas would have to learn how to get along.

Emmeline sighed heavily as she entered the school. Over the summer, she had heard a rumor about the intended merge between their pristine Academy and the school from the poverty-stricken side of town. She'd half hoped that this whole situation was only a rumor, not that she had an issue wity any of the other teens that would be attending the school. Her only dilemma was her fear of what the others in High Roll would react like. She knew that some of the other students in the Academy had their views on the students from Solime and wondered what the ultimate decision would ensue.

Em also wondered if her own attitude towards the other teens would change once their schools merged. Already, she could see a few of the Solime students hanging out in from of the Academy. She swallowed hard as she walked, keeping her gaze down, her brown curls falling to shield her face as she walked. Although she didn't want to admit it, she'd heard some serious stories about the Solime students, and she didn't know whether to believe them or not. She decided to keep on the safe side, and keep her leather designer bookbag close to her as she walked. Soon, she appeared at the row of lockers in which hers was and sighed. Em opened it up and began organizing her materials inside. All of a sudden she heard a loud bang next to her locker, someone had slammed it closed. She shut the door a little and peeked to see who it was, curious since she hadn't had a locker neighbor before.

What she saw was a Solime student, they were staring back at her. There was a moment of silence between them before Em finally spoke up, "Good morning. I'm Emmeline.. Welcome to High Roll. What's your name?" There was an aawkwardness to the tone of her voice. She tried to force a smile, like one does to seem polite.

Evergreen was not thrilled, to say the least, but her foster mom made sure she was a block from the school well before the homeroom bell. The girl now trudges into the building, trying to stand tall. She pulls her navy, winter cap, so it securely hugs her cranium, and stares at all the students shoes. Every once in a while there is an old sneaker or a shuffling, nervous pace, but, for the most part, Evergreen only sees new sandals and confident steps. She huffs out a weak sigh and finds her way to her locker, avoiding people as much as possible.

It was odd how Evergreen did not like attention, but she makes her appearance rather distracting. The teen frowns at this thought, and pours her Hello Kitty backpack into her locker, letting its few components fall where they wish. She only retrieves a black sharpie and small notebook. Ever then slams her locker shut, and looks up to her "locker neighbor" who appears to be trying to greet her. Evergreen pierces her lips into a slight smile and looks behind her. Surely, she does not seem sane enough to say hello to.

Seeing no one else the girl could be addressing, the girl stares back in curiosity.

"Evergreen..."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Jasper trails behind Evergreen as she walks into the school. He can not help but grin at all the different faces around him. Not only did the students from this town look stylish, but they looked like they knew how to have a good time. The male waves excitedly to several people and begins his first day by exploring all the halls. He doesn't bother to find his locker or get to his homeroom early. Instead he focuses on being seen by the most people he can; surely his hair will be remembered when these rich kids make party plans.

She gave a small nod, and took a hold of her own lilac colored notebook and her black fountain pen. Em smiled a little, "What an interesting name, you can call me Em if you want. Only my mother calls me Emmeline, she says it sounds more sophisticated." She blushed a little and stopped herself as she noted the fact that she was rambling on. Her eyes trailed to the boy that was close behind Evergreen. "Are you two related? I have a brother too but he's in college. Are you from Solime? What's it like there?" Once again she noticed herself rambling and stopped herself, offering a sheepish smile. "Sorry. If you need help getting around, I can help since you're new and all." As Em spoke, she tucked her books in the brown leather bag at her side. "If you have a bag, it's easier so you don't have to come to your locker so often..." Her friends had warned her about staying away from the Solime kids, but she didn't really mind. For her, they were just a tad bit strange but they were still teenagers that wanted to party just like them, or at least she assumed so.

Parking her car, Dara breathed as she looked at the school she would be spending her senior year in. So many opportunities. So many pricks. She knew the louder, more dangerous students of Solime would make a stereotype that included her, one she knew she wouldn't appreciate very well. She grabbed her bag and walked into her new school, glancing around at it. It was clean, neat and orderly; very much unlike any school she's ever gone to before now. She pulled the scrap of paper that contained her locker number out of her pocket and went to the cluster of lockers that would have hers in it. She had brought two binders and put one in her locker. She had a couple pens in her purse, so she was good for class. She closed her locker and turned around, running into a boy with blue hair. "Hey!" She said, narrowing her eyes at him. This guy's name was...Jasper. She thought. He was a foster kid, and she'd seen him around a couple times. Dara had seen him and his sister walk in this morning, who seemed to have equally strange hair. They were both kind of weird, even for Solime kids. Of course, she didn't have much room to talk because she had a nose piercing. "Oh, you're Jasper, right? Sorry." She said, her lips curling into a slight half-smile. At least she'd know somebody here.

Evergreen shrugs to everything Emmeline informs her of, but she does want to clear up the question about her foster brother.

"Jasper isn't my real brother."

The girl looks at Em's feet and back to hers. She smirks and speaks once more before leaving.

"Solime is... interesting."

With that, Evergreen begins the adventure of searching for her classroom; she was not about to ask a High Roll for help.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Jasper grins at Dara, remembering her from his neighborhood. He watched her anger melt slightly away and tries not to laugh at her frustration.

"Hi! I hear that the old man isn't allowing the school to give us tardies on our first day, so you might as well explore this place."

The male smiles again, assuming everyone thinks like him and wants to waste as much time as possible. He raises his eyebrows at her, wondering if she wants to join him for a while. The more the merrier.

Em swallows at her comment on Jasper, and nods turning away. She's surprised at the refusal from Evergreen, she assumed someone new would need help. After standing at her locker she turns the opposite way, walking towards the west wing of the Academy. There is a click on the marble floors from her brown designer boots as she walks. In the middle of the hallway, she notices the two. Her gaze lingers on them as she walks past, noticing Jasper from before she offers a polite smile. From this gesture, she doesn't do anything but continue to walk. Although she loves to party, Em has never done anything that could compromise her standing in the Academic Ranks. Her finger twirls around a strand of her hair as she walks to the door at the end of the hall. The classroom is empty, this is her free period. There is only a couple of art stations around the class room. Em sits down, and pulls out her cell phone, uploading her peculiar meeting with the Solime students on her social media page. There is immediate responses, many are rude and negative. The High Rolls have begun to trash the Solimes on account of one status. She swallows and sets the phone back in her bag, sketching a picture on the canvas infront of her. "Well jeez, that escalated extremely quickly.."

Dara grinned at Jasper. He seemed to be as carefree as he's always been, which could be both a good and bad thing. "I doubt you care too much about your senior year, but I would like to learn a couple things while I'm here." She joked, looking around the building once more. A collection of people were already going to their homeroom, even there there were 10 more minutes until the first bell rang. "I'll come with you, but I wanna be at homeroom before the tardy bell." She continued, watching as a girl walked past the two quickly, only offering a polite but awkward smile.

Unlike most from Solime, Dara had always worked had at school. She was a decent student, but had always struggled in history and some math. She tried to be active in extracurricular activities, but not many had been available at her old school. It had instead been filled with gangs and lots of illegal activities, which had not been something she'd wanted to be involved in. She wanted to succeed in life, even though very few thought she actually could. Nevertheless, she tried. "Lead the way." Dara motioned to Jasper, wondering just where he intended to go.

Tamara groans, her mother driving her to the school. She pulled up her hood and slid out of the car with her denim bag and phone. She walked past a group od High Rolls kids and they immediately fell silent as if she was a pariah. Though she supposed she was since she came form Solime. She adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder and zipped up her sweater. Tamaras hair fell down in front of her heavily lined eyes, dark as night, giving her a mysterious look. Her life sucked in general and she knew that school in High Rolls would be a living hell, not like Solime was, but a social hell. Not a physical place. She gripped her schedule and noticed she had Chemistry as first period in the west wing. She stumbled down the hall, receiving glares and hushed whispers, all true of course, at least about the worst part of Solime where she lived. Tamara didn't blame them for hating them. If she had had a life like theirs she would hate her too. But as she opened the door to the Chemistry classroom she was flooded with fear. It was clear on her face that she was uncomfortable in a see of well to do teenagers that she was out of place, unwelcome and unliked. She put on a tough face, one she had mastered over the years and after the 'incident'. She stepped into class and hardened her eyes and face ready to give the High Rolls kids what they expected from her.

After a loud, exasperated sigh Em stands. She walks to the door, and exits the room walking to her real homeroom. She enters the Chemistry lab and offers a smile to the teacher. She brings herself to a table in the back, and takes her seat. All the intensifying atmosphere between the High Rolls and Solimes is draining. She props her head on her hand and stares at the clock. Her manicured fingers tap at the table impatiently, she peeks behind her quickly. There seems to be only one or two Solime students in this class. Every now and then, she stares at her phone. There is still a couple of minutes left to homeroom, so she takes her notebook out and doodles. So far, she's seen none of her friends, and she wonders if they're avoiding school to avoid the new students. She thinks back to her new locker neighbor, and the way she acted. Just looking at her, she felt like there was a serious difference. It seemed to be that way for most of the High Rolls. You can tell the two groups apart almost immediately. There is a ping on her phone, a social media update. There will be a party for the start of the new school year tonight, and apparently ALL are invited.

One hand on the door handle and the other pulling her tortoiseshell sunglasses away from her eyes, Francesca stepped through the Academy's front doors just as she had dozens of times before. The difference? Now, she was a senior. One more year and she was out and off to the university of her choosing. She just had to make it through one more painstakingly miserable year. Her hazel gaze calmly skimmed the hall for familiar faces as she folded her sunglasses and slid them to hang from the v-shaped neckline of her white button down. She saw several classmates she recognized mixed with possibly even more that she didn't. Perhaps it was just her imagination, but the Solime students seemed more plentiful than expected.

Casually hooking her thumbs in the straps of her backpack, Frankie started down one of the left hallways towards her locker. It wasn't a far walk. Once there, she put in her combination and swung the door open to reveal a row of Polaroids on the inner side, mostly of herself with the other swim and dive girls. Little inside jokes were scribbled in varying handwriting on the bottom such as, "Another win for the barracuda!" or "Missus Steal-Your-State-Ranking!" Francesca couldn't help but smile to herself as she pulled the small black sports duffle from the crook of her elbow and pushed it inside the locker, her gaze skimming over the photographs.

She cast a glance down at her outfit, a slim cut white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to elbows, light blue skinny jeans, a thin brown belt, and matching brown leather boat shoes. Simple, but cute, at least in her own opinion. Better than what a lot of these newbies have dug out this morning. The though crossed her mind before she had a chance to stifle it. Clearing her throat softly, almost as if she was afraid she'd said the comment aloud, Frankie shut her locker and turned to make her way to the chemistry lab, her own personal sanctuary outside of the Academy's indoor pool.

She stood in the doorway, searching for a face she knew, or rather, actually liked, when her gaze fell over one in particular. "Em!" Francesca threw on a one hundred watt smile as fast as she could, relived homeroom wouldn't be jam packed with new students.

On the first day that Solime students would be joining High Roll Academy, Kiel's parents were nervous. He felt nervous too, of course, but buried his apprehensions beneath an honest layer of curiosity. After all the sheltering from the allegedly dangerous, dirty, crime-ridden underclass, after all the harrowing stories he had heard over the years, he was finally being given the opportunity to merge with them. Not just pass them occasionally on the streets, his hands cautiously slipping into his pockets to protect his wallet as his parents so often warned him to do when they were about, but to actually be alongside them. And who knows, maybe even...make a friend. He was excited.

All the same, he left his valuables at home that day.

As Kiel walked through the corridors he felt his heartbeat escalate a little as he looked around for newcomers. He heard a sudden bang over by the lockers, and as he turned to look, he saw a girl...Emmeline?...talking to someone he didn't recognise. They seemed to have a certain hardness about them, an aura that didn't sit well with him, so he stood against the wall from a slight distance, watching her and waiting to see how the situation would play out. He supposed the day would be full of this slight tension and anxiety. He just wanted to figure out whether he was going to be able to feel safe at the Academy from now on.

Em heard the familiar voice, and looked up with a smile of her own. She waited for Frankie to come and take a seat next to her. Her voice was low as she spoke, "You look great, everything is great. Did you see all the Solime students? There's a lot more than expected." There was a carefulness to her whispering, she didn't dare speak loud enough to have the students hear her. Again, she did not have anything against them, but they seemed a little too peculiar for her liking. The way all of them carried themselves was a bit scary. They all seemed serious, and dangerous. Those stories had done a great amount on the hidden distrustful feelings she had towards them. "There's a girl with a locker next to me. Her hair is Cotton Candy pink, I mean my mother would murder me if I did something like that. She has a brother with blue hair, it's a bit strange too." She continued to describe her morning experience. After a bit she smiled wide, "But enough of that, how are you? Excited to be a senior I bet? Although this whole merge is a bit of a setback. I wonder if any of them will try for extracurricular activities.."

"Mama told me when I was young

Come sit beside me, my only son

And listen closely to what I say.

And if you do this

It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... Don't live too fast,

Troubles will come and they will pass.

Go find a woman and you'll find love,

And don't forget son,

There is someone up above......."

Ash finished playing the song as he sat in a dark alley by the school. It was an old sing and also his favorite song of all time. When he was a boy, even when things got bad with his dad, his mother would song that to him at night while holding him tightly. That was really the only reason Ash was even considering walking into the school just across the street from where he now sat. He knew that if she were alive, his mom would've wanted him to do this. Taking a deep breath, Ash stood up and slung his guitar over his shoulder and held his bag in the other. This was going to be an interesting day.

Slowly, Ash madeis way across the street and made his way through the front gates. Instantly, you could see the difference between him and all the other teenagers there. They wore designer jeans with stylish rips while the holes in his jeans came from being used so often. His faded, leather brown jacket hung over his blue and black hole-filled flannel with it's first two buttons undone so that you could see the white tank top under. Ash's black, leather boots that were barely held together scraped against the ground as he walked forward towards the school building. Everywhere around him there was silence along with staring. Even among the Somali Ash was an outcast. He wondered how the rich kids already knew who he was, for the silence clearly suggested they did, and then he began to realize that his heavily scarred knuckles made him stand out a bit as well as the small scar across the right side of his lip. At least now no one would mess with him then.

Ash tried to look at it that way, but honestly the silent stares and looks of terror were a bit annoying. Sure, hewas use to them, but it still iirritated him to be looked at. It would be much easier if he was simply ignored. Even as he walked inside the building and threw his backpack into his locker, only grabbing a notebook and his guitar to carry with him, the hall were he stood was eerily quiet. Ignoring it the best he could, Ash walked into his homeroom to be met with blank stares.

Frankie listened closely as she settled into the seat next to Emmeline, leaning over a bit so they could keep their voices at a whisper. "Cotton Candy pink?" She echoed, her nose scrunching a bit as the words left her tongue. "My mom would definitely have her claws at my throat too if I pulled some stunt like that." Imagining Maria DePace's reaction if she came in one night with pink hair was enough to make Frankie never want to play out the scene in real life. It was Em's mention of extracurriculars, however, that caught her attention once more.

"Like the swim team? You think so?" She tucked a piece of dark hair behind her ear, shifting uncomfortably in her seat. "I don't know how well that's going to go over..."

Tamara walked in, passing a group of people obviously old friends talking about senior year. She sat in a seat and stared at her notebook, then flipped it open and started sketching her tattoo. A giant pattern of wings with a unicorn head. Not threatening but still quite a sight with her dark style. She looked up as Ash, a boy she recognized walked into the homeroom. Her face being one not blank but slightly smirking. She didn't expect him to even show up. Not many had. She looked back down her hood falling off revealing her long black hair that spilled over her shoulders. She continued to sketch and add value to it. She had been sketching it since she had cut herself off from the school in Solime. This being her first day back in almost a year. She silently hoped he would sit near her so she wouldn't be completely alone on the first day.

She tapped her pen and sighed. Twisting her ring. She was right about it being a hell here. Tamara looked at the girls talking again her face clean of emotions and narrowed her eyes. She knew Ash's rep since her friends had never wanted to mess with him. So they avoided him and never got in fights but were always secretly wondering if they could get in a punch. But with the Solime kids being few and scattered she might as well not make him mad the first day.

Kiel sat in homeroom watching for new people to walk through the door. He'd seen some unusual-looking faces for sure, and with no one to whisper real comments to, he began making a game in his head. Every time he saw someone with a feature that branded them a Solime student, he'd make up comments that his mother and father might make if they saw him looking the same. "Kiel Van Voorst, what on earth possessed you to get that filthy mark inked onto your shoulder?"; "My goodness, who did that to your knuckles?!"; "Kiel, your hair...who's idea was this? It looks like something a young child might eat at a carnival." He laughed quietly under his breath. Then he saw a a young man walk into the room with a guitar strapped to his back and a notebook in his hand, no bag or anything.

Is he here to do a show for us?
he thought.

"The Solime Demon"

The nickname given to him by the student body of that old, now nonexistent school echoed through his mind. It seemed that the name had followed him all the way here which to be honest he didn't mind much. At least people would assume Ash was some sort of monster and leave him be. To be completely honest, it wasn't too far off from the truth. Yes, he was violent, but he had never fought without reason. Now that he was in this new school, perhaps there would be no reason to fight at all. Of course, that was nothing but false hope. Ash knew it was only a matter of time.

The thoughts in his mind kept him distracted and so he didn't hear the question the boy asked about his knuckles. Sighing deeply and with boredom, Ash took a seat next to another Solime student. He recognized her face, but wasn't exactly sure what her name was. Perhaps something with a T? That wasn't really important, he just knew she hadn't been to school in a while. That might attract some unwanted attention and Ash figured his presence would keep anyone from saying or doing anything to her. Yes, he didn't know her name, but that didn't matter to him. Ash didn't like seeing the innocent be hurt, so without knowing he would help. Besides, sitting next to her took a bit of attention off of him since she was also from Solime.

She nodded. "I mean sure, there's nothing wrong with them trying to co exist with us at our school, but our swim team? Frankie, other schools would never want to have a meet here again. They'd be too afraid of getting their valuables stolen in the locker room. Not that they're all like that, but they could be. I mean, who really knows what they've done before?" Em's voice was full of worry, she loved swimming and had been taken under Frankie's wing when she was a mere 8th grader, struggling to find a sport where she belonged. This was the only thing that she would allow be merged, the Solime students might not actually be dangerous but there was some serious rumors in the Sports League about them. "I mean, would you let them join? The girls wouldn't react very kindly." Her finger twirled a strand of her brown hair as she spoke. "It's like, a serious issue."

Amu's alarm was going off like crazy she threw her pillow at it not wanting to get up. Then sunddenly a few mins later she woke up and looked at the clock. "I'm late!!!" She jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom with great speed to get dressed. Then after she got dressed she ran down stairs and headed to the door that is until her mom stopped her. "You can not leave until you eat breakfeast." Maher mother said calmly. "But I'm late mama!" Her mother pointed to the dining room and said, "Eat." Amu ran into the dining room ate really fast then bolted to the door. She ran to the car and got in the passenger side. Her agent would drive her to school everyday, mother's orders. The problem was he would drive really slow. "Rei what are you doing drive faster I'm late!" Rei her agent said, "your mother said to drive slow." "Rei give methe wheel!" "Awww wait the car!" The car was all over the road. Actually it was funny to watch unless you happen to be driving on the same road. Finally she got to school. Jumped our of the car and said, "by Rei love you see you after school!" Then she ran in the school with a trail of dust behind her.

(Everyone is in homeroom pretty much. High Rolls kids are talking about extracurricular and Solime kids. Solime teens are either silent or sticking together. Nothing much)

Tamara gazed around the room as Ash sat down beside her. She was sort of grateful for that since who knew who would have if he didn't. She turned her head back to her notebook and shut it. The whole atmosphere was odd here and everyone was so well dressed. She was lucky to get a new shirt every once and a while where they bonded over material things. She bit her tongue and stayed silent, not asking the question that had been on the tip of her tongue the moment before as she pondered what could possibly be gained by allowing teenagers from a crime ridden town into their arms openly. Tamara swallowed and then looked over at Ash. "Umm... hi."

(Basically, we're mostly in first period. Not much has happened, except for some backstory on some of the Solime students.)

Frankie took a deep breath, taking Emmeline's thoughts into consideration. "I don't know... What am I supposed to say? I can't just cut every Solime student from the roster if they try out. That would look awful." Sensing a pair of eyes on them, she paused for a moment to glance around the classroom, briefly making eye contact with a Solime girl across the room. A rather rough looking boy had taken the seat next to her. She hadn't initially noticed either of them, too focused on her conversation, but now they seemed to stand out against the background of the High Rolls. Her gaze lingered over the two maybe a few seconds longer than it should have, not so much in mean spirits, but in interest and curiosity. Pulling her eyes away, she turned her attention back to Em. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes."
