Character Name: Cassius Traick

{roleplay with @TheCynicalWriter}
Power, Magic, Fear. Three words that joined together so well, that danced and mingled with one another. Only recently had magic been sanctioned, returned to the Kingdom of Gthana. An ancient kingdom growing in strength and territory, the ravenous King Sebastian Traick was the 12th King Gthana had seen since the War of Unrest. The Traick's had always been known tyrants.
As their reign continued, magic users had been shunned and outcast by the general public. The King decided to manipulate their power to fuel his own armies. Many magical families and tribes of Gthana were kidnapped, tortured, and forced into labour camps where their magic was used extensively in experiments to make and transform them into weapons of war, to use against the neighbouring kingdom of Ronor.

As the war raged on, more and more soldiers were created, and many magic users hunted to near extinction until Gthana won the war and Ronor surrendered.
Since then, the use of magical soldiers declined greatly, to the point where King Traick lifted the hunt on magic users, though he did nothing to help them return to their homes. Though they were safe, King Traick still held disdain for magic users, and as such, the public did too.

The Crown Prince of Gthana however, had always been fascinated with magic users. When his father took him to inspect their armies and labour camps, Cassius was always fascinated with the way magic users had the ability to control their power. He spent seasons pouring over old tomes, grasping any information he could.
Unlike his father, who offered no help to magic users when they were free, the Crown Prince found himself aiding them more and more, making sure jobs and work was provided. So much so he requested his father look into having a Court Wizard to assist with any magical issues or dilemmas that could surface in the Kingdom.

That's why Cassius draped himself over his father's throne, listening to a droll old man describe ancient magical techniques he already knew as much as he could about. He had ordered posters be raised all over the Kingdom, to notify citizens of their hunt for a Court Wizard, requesting the best magic user in the land.
His father refused to have anything to do with it, though he gave permission for a Court Wizard, he refused to deal with them. Magic Users were still considered that of low class, and the King did not wish to privilege them with his presence. Sebastian had tried to insist Cassius let one of the council lead the search, but Cassius was stubborn enough to refuse.

"Thank you Sir" Cassius raised his voice, causing the old man to stop talking for a second.
"Your interest is much appreciated, but we do need to move on. Please, call the next person in" Cassius turned to one of the guards, as the old man was gently led away, stuttering something about more information he knew. But Cassius had lost interest, magic was meant to be exciting, not boring.

Species: Half Dragon
Age: 24 / 245

Cinereous didn’t know if he should feel excited or nervous, his stomach was tingling, unfurling at the opportunity of blending into human society. His other fellow magical wielders would label him as a fool, an idiot who wanted a death wish supposedly, but the best spots to conceal oneself were in the places your enemies never expected.

Although he used the term enemies loosely, really, the kingdom wasn’t an enemy of his in any sense of the word, but nothing else seemed appropriate for those who had been going against his kind for some time. The familiar strode through the market square with utter confidence, bravado and boldness accompanied every twist of his ankles, boasting with each tap of his leather boots against the dirt covered streets. He was quite the sight really, bathed in a plethora of red and gold, the robe hung somewhat comfortably but loosely enough, with a small drag of fabric trailing behind him, akin to a tail almost. His chest was glittered with golden buttons, and a small symbol, two wings curving outwards, stitched and embroiled against the side of his chest – also a given he wasn’t all that subtle.

He cautiously picked himself up through the stone steps and winding through the hallways, directed by the guards, who were less than gentle, he added silently to himself. What was more interesting than the Kingdom itself, was a call for a court wizard, something like that seemed foreign to the Kingdom, who only used magical wielders as a means to an end, a resource, much like wood or iron. They had no alternative purpose to the Kingdom, no citizen, no royal and no noble wanted the magical users to be anything, amount to anything, other than living weapons or tools. A sad thought indeed.

Things were changing, for the better, that was more than enough to lift his spirits. Cinereous quietly pressed himself against the cold surface of the stones, listening intently to the old man divulge about old techniques, ancient methods for conducting and using magic, standard if you wanted to visit any library that contained magical information. He also managed to look around the corner of the door, The Prince looked very bored indeed, he could only guess most people were either only speaking or showing very minimal in ways of magical capability, to be expected in an environment that once sought to use you. He dipped his fingers below his right sleeve, fingers skimming up against his wrist and merely nodded to the guard, gesturing, demandingly for him to enter the room.

His masters tended to describe Cinereous as a showy person, ostentatious with his powers and brash, even gaudy in the face of those who wanted nothing more than to use him. And thus, not the one to disappoint anyone, he sauntered into the centre, pulling his hands from his sleeve and a stream of fire danced under his command, compelled together into a glitzy river that curved above his head, before dispersing into nothing, frazzled into tiny specs of flames that quickly died down under his guidance. His gift for fire magic was both heritage and learned, being half dragon only give him that natural inclination after all. “Prince Cassius.” He addressed rather softly, kneeling his legs into a bow, before lifting himself up from the expensive carpet.

“It’s an honour to meet you, I am Cinereous.” Formality was unfortunately a much needed part for any civil conversation, but Cinereous could nonetheless play the angle convincingly, dabbled with a small smile that was restrained against his pale lips.

“You do not need to worry yourself Cassius. There is nothing of importance to a court wizard. You should not involve yourself in magic” The sound of his father's voice drifted through his ear as he watched the old man leave, before a new, younger man entered. The minute the fire brightened the room, Cassius looked intrigued.
Others that had been interested in this position were old, skilled in their ways and confident in their studies. Magic was still feared and as such they were careful to display any magic. All their confidence was in their words, in the years they had studied and worked on their magic abilities. All this talk bored Cassius, so to see something immediately of interest was far more exciting.

However the guards jumped to attention, moving to protect the Prince.

“Stand down” Cassius muttered, as a smile graced his lips when Cinerious bowed low. His father would have fainted at the thought of magic being used in the castle, but to Cassius the fact these sacred halls were now holding something with power, was amazing, and slightly disobedient.
Not that his father was ever going to speak to the court wizard. The amount of times his father had spat on magic users, ignored them and treated them as nothing. He wouldn’t be surprised if there was a lack of loyalty towards the royal family. But they were just far too interesting...fascinating to be ignored for sure.

“It is a pleasure to meet you Cinerious” Taking the chance to glance over the creature's appearance. He had been taught to judge on first sight, but for Cassius, mistrust had gone out the window after that display. They said he was grown, but deep down magic would always turn him into an amazed child.

“So, you are interested in applying for the position of court wizard. What draws you to this position? And what do you think you can bring to it?” Boring generic questions. He asked everyone that had passed through today.
Most were ordinary, to help see magic flourish, to teach the ways of magic and to help defend the kingdom. All fine and well, but all the same. There was no one with initiative, no one that struck his attention. After the first display he hoped Cinerious would be far more interesting. After all if anything, he wanted to prove his father wrong. That there was good in magic, and it was a tool not to be exploited, but to be shown and cherished.
