NPC: Wood Spirit of Mapepo Woods

full
When she felt her forest shiver with anticipation, like the day before a storm, the wood spirit knew that the start of a new tale was starting to sprout. The night was quiet and dark with the solemn yet cold beauty of the moon washing over the sleeping land. From the outside of the land, she saw nothing that changed. The night was the night. The moon was the moon. Everything was still. A heavy blanket of false calm draped over the land until the sun comes up to gently pull it away.

Yet, the inside of the land, where her roots had anchored themselves many generations ago...it was far from calm. Fate was stirring. The blessings that she had protected for generations were whispering. Gathering themselves. Preparing to take root upon this world and bloom so the land could harvest new fruits of hope.

The land was tucked away in a heavy blanket of silence.

But underneath...the thin veins of hope were gathering and growing stronger.

Her brothers and sisters whisper through their roots.

The guardians are coming.

She gazed at the horizon and blinked.

The sun was starting to rise.

The morning was calm and had the usual slight chill that came with the early autumn mornings in Anfang. Eden shivered slightly in the moderately busy kitchen as he packed a rather simple breakfast in a well worn leather knapsack for their trip to the river near Mapepo Forest. Winter was coming and the older women in the village liked to do the laundry at the river before the winter settles in and forces them to do the laundry in the wash basins. Personally, he wasn't too fond of the river nor the thought of drowning that came with it. But he wasn't about to let his friends go off on their own and more than likely get themselves in trouble. Self preservation seems to be pushed back to the back of his mind when it comes to his ridiculous friends.

Remembering a particularly exasperating but admittedly funny memory, Eden snorted before tying his knapsack and pulling up the rather large laundry basket over his head. Before he could take even a step out of the kitchen, however, he realized his minor dilemma. He has no more hands to carry their breakfast.

Closing his spring green eyes in annoyance, the boy huffed impatiently before just deciding to grab the knapsack with his teeth and scampering out of the kitchen. He didn't have time for this. He'll just have to make kick the bed...or them to wake them up. With that in mind, the ten year old boy stopped at the door to the room that some of the boys in the orphanage shared. Nimbly taking off one of his shoes, Eden gripped the door knob with his sock clad feet and shoved it open before hastily putting his shoe back on and storming over to the bunk where his red haired bunk mate was probably still sleeping in.

He kicked the base of the bed loudly. "Mmph! Mrf urf!"

Vis snorted rather loudly as he came to. Coughing to clear whatever was lodged in his throat, and some excess air through his nose, the redhead frowned even as the uncomfortable sensation had passed. Of all possible ways to wake up, why was it that only he would experience such an unfortunate situation? Others would wake up to the sun searing into their eyelids, or perhaps finding themselves buried under blankets and pillows, slowly suffocating as their bunkmate [bedmate?] slept on, completely unaware … but that was completely normal. Everyone experienced that occasionally, especially when housed with others who were just as young and mischievous as yourself - accidents like that were bound to happen more often than not. Choking on air though? Not only was that entirely too stupid, but really, what were the chances? At least nobody was awake or around to witness the mighty fall of the great Vis, the young redhead thought as he rolled over the bed, not at all surprised when there wasn’t a body there to stop him mid-roll.

While Vis enjoyed rolling around in the bed, Eden was a whole other story. Eden seemed way too strung up to stay in bed, had way too much on his mind to just pull out all stops like Vis could easily do. It was nice sometimes, he supposed, to have Eden go through half of Vis’ assigned chores, leaving the redhead to complain a lot less while he did ‘his share’ of the work. Of course, Vis would also return the favor, bringing the shorter redhead out for many adventures instead of staying in the clutches of the old bats - Vis was sure that they were planning to boil them all into some soup while they grew older or fatter, he just knew it. Don’t question it. So really, their friendship was a strong and beautiful thing that was sure to live out and span over for many years to come - if they managed to escape the watchful eyes and quick hands of the old hags, that is.

Sadly, his monologue was cut short when the door swung open fiercely, with an equally fierce and short redhead behind the door. "Mmph! Mrf urf!" was heard, and curious as to why his friend decided to bypass the entire standard language, Vis rolled over, facing his friend. Immediately, an eyebrow shot up and the redhead was about to scold the shorty for kicking things, when suddenly the smell of something absolutely delicious overcame his senses. With a smile and both his eyebrows raised in excitement, Vis reached out for the knapsack, no doubt stuffed with food for them all.

Well, it was held by Eden’s teeth … and Vis wasn’t too interested in breaking somebody’s teeth. Yuck. He settled for tugging the bag. “I’ll take this!” He informed the other redhead with a slight cackle.

Amethyst orbs stared out the window as the sun slowly rose higher and higher and changed the color of the sky from a golden orange to a pale blue. It was a clear autumn day; the perfect weather for today's trip.

Being careful not to disturb any of the other sleeping girls in the room, Feli carefully slipped out of bed. She silently changed into her outdoor clothes and did her hair in it's usual style. After checking to see that everyone was still asleep, Feli closed the door gently behind her. As much as she loved her pranks and just generally getting under people's skin, it was not fun to deal with people who were absolutely cantankerous when woken up too early.

While on the way to the outside of the orphanage Feli stopped by the kitchen. There weren't as many people as she had expected and there was no sign of a certain redhead. After making sure that no one would be able to see her, she crept into the kitchen, snatched an apple and scuttled out the door. She knew that Eden had definitely packed food, but an extra of one of her favorite things to eat couldn't hurt right? Besides, she liked nabbing extra food from the kitchen every so often. Even though the old ladies probably never even noticed the little tidbits of food that would go missing occasionally, just the thought of these little misdemeanors amused her.

Feli swung open the door to the outside and ran out. After finding a comfortable spot on the floor, she sat with her apple. Now she just needed to find something to entertain herself with while waiting for Val and Eden.

Not expecting the other redhead to tug on his knapsack, though he had to admit that he really shouldn't have underestimated Vis' nose, Eden's eyes widened as he tripped forward and face planted onto their bed. The laundry basket fell much more gracefully in front of him as he felt his knapsack being tugged out by a triumphant, cackling redhead. Grunting in annoyance, he turned his face to the side to glare at his friend viciously. A bit like an angry griffikeet...just not as cute or threatening yet.

"Really, Vis?" Eden gripped his pillow and swung it at his obnoxious friend. Really, why was he friends with the idiot? Feli and Vis are always getting into trouble and because he's part of their little...trio, he's usually in the thick of it too. Like when they stole, thankfully clean, underwear from the old ladies who ran their orphanage and hung them around in the most obvious places. Well...he had to admit, it was actually a bit amusing. And the taste of vengeance was pretty sweet. The old women were getting a bit lazy and rude that particular month...

Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad to be friends with them. But it was still a rather strange three-way benefit.

Getting up and sitting on the wooden floor, the boy glared at Vis warily while pulling the laundry basket off the bed. No matter how many charms the older kids in their orphanage applied to the laundry baskets, they still somehow smell when there's a particularly bad load. And he really didn't want to sleep on a bed that smelled like dirty boy's underwear tonight. "Anyway, get up. The faster we get to the river, the faster we get to finish our chores and go do whatever we want. I want to see if I can get Rhode to teach me how to read today..."

Vis saw the pillow coming a mile away, even so, he allowed the pillow to thump him softly. It’s not like the pillow would cause actual harm … well last Vis checked, Eden didn’t go putting rocks in his pillow, so it was fine. Besides, a hit on the head in exchange for a bag full of delicious goodies? Worth it, in his mind at least. While Eden picked himself up, Vis hummed quietly, delighted by the smells and prospect of having what seemed like a feast all in the heavy, bag that now rested in his hands, now … how to hide this from all the other boys and girls? Even as Vis continued to wonder on, he did manage to catch Eden’s words, and immediately brightened up.

If they were going out to eat, then it was perfect! Vis knew many hiding places around the river, as did Feli [or at least he assumed she did], so they wouldn’t have to worry about someone jumping in to snatch their food. Oh, and what fun they could have outside. After their chores of course. The trees were perfect for a good climb, the sun was bright, so maybe a game of tag with the others - after they finished eating - wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Eden would naturally decline, but he wouldn’t if Vis managed to do his chores today … right? There was no way the other redhead would be able to resist the demands after Vis helped him out with the chores. Mwuahaha.

Swinging the knapsack around onto his back, Vis took one look at his clothing. It was simple cloth stitched together, creating something that looked like a t-shirt with a hoodie and shorts that reached to his knees. His pajamas, really … but surely, they were clean enough for a day of roughhousing outside! Besides, if it did get dirty he could always clean by the river - further away from the ladies cleaning of course. Hehehe.

Sliding himself off the bed, and quickly tucking his feet into his shoes, Vis impatiently hopped about, the bag bouncing with him every jump. “Let’s go then! And who cares about reading, some things you gotta see for yourself instead of reading on the papers!” The redhead announced, in his oh so bold and hotheaded manner, as he dashed for the open door, effortlessly running right through and into the halls. Rushing through the kitchen and the door to the outside itself, Vis brought himself to a stop as he spotted a familiar kid sitting around the tree. “Ew! Feli’s here!” He said, turning his head back, informing Eden while wearing a mischievous smirk, no doubt trying to wind up and tease the girl.

Feli sighed while picking at the grass where she was sitting. She hadn't really been waiting for very long, but even just a few minutes started to feel like hours. Afterall, Feli was not the patient type and she could only distract herself with looking for flowers and plants for so long. Finding a flower that she didn't know the name of, Feli carefully placed it into her pocket so that she could identify it later. She leaned back on the tree trunk and closed her eyes only to immediately snap them back open when the silence was broken by the sound of a door being opened and a voice.

"Ew! Feli's here!"

Feli didn't even bother looking at the source of the regrettably all-too-familiar voice before grabbing the closest throwable item. The black haired girl was about to hurl the object at the Val's face when she realized what it was that she was holding. She looked from the apple in her hand to the red-head and then back to the apple. With a sour expression Feli simply brought the apple to her face and took a bite out of it. It wasn't worth throwing and wasting her apple, not to mention the fact that he was purposefully rousing her.

"Maybe I wouldn't have been the first thing you saw outside if you had managed to get up earlier," she retorted.

Feli stood up and brushed off the few blades of grass still clinging onto her clothes. Staring at her apple, she realized that she had to finish eating it now. Just great. Now she didn't have an apple saved for later.

Scowling in annoyance at the comment, Eden went to defend his new favorite pastime. It's not like he could see the legend behind the fireflies by just staring at them! "There are just somethings you can't see unless you-...UGH!" Giving up on the cause, the shorter boy picked up his laundry basket and scrambled after his friend with haste, bumping into other, taller, children and adults who were in the kitchen in the process. Which earned him rather rude and dirty looks from the busier folks. "Sorry, sorry. Excuse me. Yes, yes. Sorry." This was why he wanted to get out early! He's not tall enough to be seen and avoided...though you would think with his bright red hair they would be able to see him coming anyway. They see Vis, why can't they see him?!

...It's probably the extra inches the other red head has on him.

Internally snarling at the trouble that his lack of height causes, Eden finally managed to get through the busy kitchen and get outside in general to hear Vis' announcement and Feli's following quip. Ruffled from all the jostling, Eden huffed out a sigh. "Let's go. And yes Feli, I brought apples with the food. There's even milk if the bottle hasn't been broken yet." He gave Vis a pointed look.

Vis watched on with unfiltered glee as the girl’s face scrunched up. Although she wasn’t even facing him, her emotions were clear as day. Surely, anybody passing by would be able to see through the girl’s false calm. Especially with the way she seemed to have viciously tore into the apple. Kukukukuku~

Of course, Feli did manage to bring about her own response, but Vis paid no attention. It was all good fun, friendly banter, their regular greeting. Instead of a normal “Good morning,” or “Die. Douche.” that was more commonly used in the orphanage, the two of them managed to create something absolutely wonderful and unique. Well - at least Vis just continued to bombard the other girl with teasing remarks and rude greetings, just to spice up everybody’s mornings, of course. It was a free service for them all, they really should be more grateful, the redhead had huffed.

Hearing a familiar set of feet stumbling behind him, and feeling the heat of a halfhearted glare, Vis knew that they had all gathered, in one piece with all of their essential needs. Excellent. Hearing the small accusation, Vis turned to the shorter redhead with knitted eyebrows and a small frown, his hands coming up to pat the front of his chest, his entire body gesturing, asking, the innocent question, “Who? Me?”

“I didn’t run into anyone along the way, I didn’t knock the tables or chairs either. There’s absolutely no way the bottles broken!” He declared, whisking his head back to face the front - the path that would lead them straight down to the riverside - and the forest. “Wouldn’t the back of my shirt be all dirty already if it did break?” he said, as a final thought as he began to march onwards. “Come on! Let’s go already, you slow pokes I want to get there before all the old bats and stupid brats do!” He ordered loudly as he continued marching on.

NPC: Wood Spirit of Mapepo Forest

She knew they were coming from the very beginning.

Before they had even stepped onto the very edge of her domain. Before they had left their home that morning. Perhaps, she even knew before they had left their mother's womb.

Instinct, she knew, was a strange. But she never doubted it.

After all, it never gave her a reason to.

The sight before her was proof. Though, rather...queer proof. She mused at the sight of the three strange human saplings stumble up the usually more dangerous part of her domain. Far away from the protection of mothers. If it was any other day, her creatures would have torn them with righteous fury. For her home was their domain. However, today, her creatures were quiet, as if they knew that these mere saplings would bear new fruit.

No matter how disappointing they seem.

They were loud and clumsy. The ones with burning scarlet hair practically calling to every dangerous creature in the world that they would never hide. Their minds were young and just as clumsy. And worst of all...

They were small and weak.

But...she had learned long ago that it wasn't the teeth or claws that spun the threads of hope. It was the resilient strength of the soul. The world needed power, yes. But also the threads of hope to root and anchor them into the earth.

So with a shake of her great body, the ageless wood spirit shed her cloak of camouflage and the last of her doubt. The dull wood like fur turned into an unwavering silver that shimmered with the colors of her forest. While, the dark bark-like brown of her eyes glowed and changed into an eternal green, the color of baby leaves from an oak tree. And lastly, as the dull brown of her antlers fell away to a gentle white, the reds and browns of her leaves fell as her branches bloomed with enchanting dream-like greens.

Moving to the very edges of her forest, the still partially hidden wood spirit stomped her obsidian hooves before leading them deeper into her domain. Her great antlers leaving a trailing behind her.

Like the gentle beginnings of alluring dreams.

Comments: ...Yeah Eden. You DEFINITELY didn't know that you guys were going to wander off. Keep telling yourself that sweetie.

He swears that while it really, really wasn't his idea to go to the other side of the river. 'It was Vis' idea, Feli just wanted to get away from the work probably...and I just followed so they don't get themselves killed. The herbs are just an extra bonus. Even though I may or may not have known that this would have happened.'

Small excuses for himself whirled in his head, as the short red head carefully slid the last of the bundles of herbs into one of the many straw weaved tubes that he brought with him. He had just capped the tubes and slid them into his jacket pocket when he saw something white flicker at the corner of his eye. Freezing in place, Eden turned to see the ghostly white glow moving deeper into the forest.

Nononono. He was NOT going to chase after something that's probably very much evil and dead.

Nope.

Not him. Not Vis. Not Feli.

He jumped up and quickly made his way to Vis and Feli. Grabbing their sleeves with a pale and very much nervous expression on his face, he pointedly said, "Time to go home. The adults are probably looking for us."

'I swear if we die today I'm going to come back as a ghost and kill them again.'

Feli was not a fan of rivers.

Rivers had water and fish lived in water. As much as she liked fish in stew, Feli was NOT fond of moving, living fish. Sure, this part of the river didn't have any fish, but you could never know when a lone straggler would come swimming where it didn't belong. Due to this, Feli was glad when it was decided that they cross the river and venture into Mapepo Forest.

The first thing Feli noted when they entered Mapepo Forest was that despite its ridiculous sounding name, it was quite the nice place with its large array of different kinds of plants. Other than the odd plants, the forest seemed to be a good place to hide and it seemed that not a lot of people passed through this part of the forest. It wasn't her idea to cross the river and explore the woods today, but she wouldn't mind coming again. It was interesting here and would be a good source of entertainment to cure her boredom.

Speaking of entertainment, Eden was tugging on Vis and her sleeves with a nervous expression while saying something about going home because the adults were probably looking for them. Feli smirked mischievously.

"Come on Eden. It wouldn't hurt to explore a bit more, right?"

And with that, she took off.

Vis was very pleased for most of the afternoon by the riverside. As he had promised the skies a while back, he absolutely refused to arrive later than the old bats at the orphanage and the other children. Firstly, because it was lame. I mean, he woke up earlier than most of them, set off before anyone could stop them, and not to mention, he was carrying one of the biggest and fullest bags in the history of ever. If, no ... when he arrived there, he had already planned to be feasting away, maybe jumping around in the river and splashing the late comers while they all basked in his success.

When he, Eden and Feli eventually reached the river, sadly not with a record breaking speeds, they or at least Vis was quick to pull out absolutely everything from the bag, setting it nicely onto the ground. Naturally, he planned to eat just about everything from within the bag, like, why would you bring extras and NOT eat it, right? Sadly, Eden didn't seem to listen to him that carefully, and instead packed a good quarter of it away, leaving the rest open for grabs.

It wasn't like Vis wanted to eat it all anyway. Whatever. As long as the chibi was happy and not nagging right? Perhaps he was hungry ... Vis did eat a lot, perhaps he had been eating more and more without noticing, and therefore unintentionally making the smaller redhead more and more hungry by the day? ... No, it wasn't the guilt that kept Vis from sneaking the extras by the hour. Vis did whatever he wanted, as if the chibi could stop him and whatever he wished to do! He simply had no desire to munch on food the entire day, he had so much to explore and get done, you know.

One such task was laundry. Unfortunately. And no matter how much Vis whined, begged, grovelled, and even tried to offer [food] to the tiny redhead, there was just no way he was escaping any of it. It was such an embarrassing sight, he would look back, and would consider himself very lucky that there wasn't any brat around to witness the great Vis on his knees for such a tiny person. Huff, the very thought.

Sadly, all his plans to gloat victoriously over the bodies of the younger brats were all but crushed when they finally arrived to the river. While the trio had arrived early to their feast, they were well into cleaning, but weren't quite finished yet. Just watching the brats munching away while he was working just irked him so strongly, best to not think of such things now, though. Of course, Vis got them all back in the most dramatic and noteworthy fashion. The old bats got to suffer a bit too, it was their faulty timing that was to blame after all.

After that, it seemed that they didn't put up much of a fight as they usually did. Good. Vis knew today was going to be a great day, ever since Eden woke him up that morning with the knapsack full of goodies, it was just his luck that the bats wouldn't be keeping four extra eyes on him today. So, without much thought for consequences, Vis brought the three of them to the other side of the river. The redhead never understood why they weren't allowed ... or they were allowed, but why didn't anyone venture further in? It was the perfect place for shade, bug catching, and even a good lengthy game of hide and seek!

Sadly, they didn't have enough people who dared to cross to actually play a game, but whatever! Vis certainly did not need to bother with such games, he was getting older, he should definitely look into finding some more suitable games and hobbies soon. As Eden wondered off muttering, Vis spent most of his time with Feli, hovering over the river, blatantly disregarding anything the old bats had told them days, and years before.

"Oh hey look! Ha~ Told you all it was my lucky day!" He boasted loudly, in triumph as he jumped up to his feet, and in his palm a dirty, stained copper glinted dully in his hands. It obviously wasn't much, but seriously, picking up money from the place everyone frequented? Major bragging rights~ Just as he was going to turn to Feli - to rub it in her face of course, what other course of action was there to take? - the chibi, pale faced and all, was quick to grab onto his sleeve, and was steadily pulling him away. What.

Immediately, Vis began to squirm, thrash around [carefully], anything to get out of the chibis grip. He wanted answers first before anything else. Just why were they going now? The sun was still warm on the top of his head, so there was no way that the day was already over, just what the heck was Eden up to? Just as he was going to voice his, undoubtedly ingenious opinion, Feli took off ... BUT WHY WAS HE STILL TRAPPED IN THIS DEATH-LIKE GRIP?!

Glaring at the purple blob that was Feli running off, Vis swerved and allowed his eyes to latch onto another sight, one that wasn't the picture of Feli skipping off free, but immediately froze up as he saw what could only be described as a floating ice cream with no cone. Or ... an ice cream that was alive? No. Way. Taking his eyes off the incredible sight for just a second, Vis took one look back at Eden's face, how concentrated he was at pulling Vis away from the frozen treat. Narrowing his eyes and turning back to the floating thing, Vis made up his mind, just as it was moving further and further away.

"I know what you're playing at! As if I'd let you get that ice cream all for yourself!" He roared, pocketing that copper he had found earlier into the pockets of his trousers. "I know what you're planning, you chibi! Taking me all the way out and then running back in here to snack on it all by yourself! I'll do even better! I'll catch that thing and bring it back for everyone to eat!" He announced loudly, digging his heel into the ground, and for a moment a small tug-a-war took place, but ultimately, Vis - being taller, stronger, and generally just a bit more awesome than Eden-the-Bookworm - the redhead successfully took charge, pulling Eden along with him as he surged forward, waddling as quickly as he could after the floating ice cream [spirit].

"Feli, wait there's-" he started to say, only to cut off, as she slipped out of his grasp like water. He hadn't thought to grip Feli as he gripped Vis because, to be honest, Vis was often more of the bigger and stronger problem. He didn't even have time to get angry or annoyed before Vis started to protest and spout some nonsense about ice cream and...catching ice cream...? What is he even talking about anymore?

"Wait, Vis, this isn't even ice cream season! And why would you even need to catch ice CREEEEEEEEEEEEAM?!" Eden could only briefly scream, half in anger and half in terror, as his much taller and stronger friend yanked him along with him. Tripping and stumbling before slamming into and clinging onto Vis' back, Eden only grew paler and paler as he was carried closer to the ghostly light in the forest instead carried away into safety. "STOP YOU MORON! THAT'S NOT ICE CREAM! IT'S OBVIOUSLY SOME FREAKY EVIL DEAD GHOST THING THAT CAN KILL US WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT US!"

Seeing that force and normal reason wasn't going to get them home, the smaller red haired boy quickly adjusted grip on Vis so that his arms were wrapped around his shoulders instead because jumping off Vis' back at the moment would only lead to a very painful fall that he did not want to experience. He could only watch with wide green eyes with pupils shrunken in terror as they ran after the ghostly figure.

'SOME MORE MUSCLE AND INCHES WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL RIGHT NOW?!'

NPC: Wood Spirit of Mapepo Forest

full

The wood spirit briefly paused at the sounds of screaming children and tilted her head. She couldn't sense any danger. Except for herself. The smaller red haired boy thought she was a dead spirit! Honestly, humans are so strange and foolish.

She snorted at the boys half in amusement and half in annoyance. She bounded ahead of the red haired boys, out of their view, as she shifted her forest with her magic carefully so the children couldn't leave the forest until she allowed them to and also so nothing would be harmed by moving earth and plants too quickly.

Then, as she reached her tree, with her white branches glowing gently with her power, she gave a mighty echoing stomp onto the ground and reached into the earth with her magic to coax the hidden eggs into view. Closing her inhuman yet gently glowing eyes, the wood spirit pressed her pure white forehead against the beautiful, softly glowing dragon eggs and willed her forest to protect and allow the precious eggs to move where ever they needed to be.

As roots and vines carefully curled themselves around the eggs and moved them out of her physical view, the wood spirit laid her body against her tree and allowed her branches of her antlers to entwine with the trunk and branches of her tree. She closed her eyes to witness the work of her forest for herself.

The great white tree with it's healthy rustling leaves glowed softly, hidden from the villagers outside her forest, waited patiently for the children to find their destiny.

And visiting her afterwards would be nice.

"Come on Eden. It won't hurt to explore a bit more, right?"

A few minutes after she took off, Feli heard a familiar scream and then yelling. She paused for a few seconds before continuing to forage onward when she faintly heard Eden yell something about ice cream. Whatever he meant, it was probably just him yelling at Vis for doing something stupid. If it were something else, Feli might have been worried, just a little...just a little...

'I guess it's about time that I go back.'

The black-haired girl was about to turn around when she saw a ghostly white glow. She would have screamed if she were afraid of ghosts and if she weren't so deadpan at the moment. She couldn't really tell because of the unclear shape of the figure, but was that thing waving at her? Children were supposed to get at least eight hours of sleep a day and Feli was sure that even though she would sometimes get a little less sleep that that it was NOT enough to start hallucinating. Maybe this was a sign that she needed ten hours.

The light soon disappeared just as suddenly as it had appeared. Feli didn't know what compelled her to do so, but she slowly walked towards the location where the light had once been. In the light's place was an oval-shaped purple crystal of some sort. It was unlike anything that she had seen before and she admitted that it was quite pretty. Seeing that examining it further with her limited knowledge on anything other than plants would get her nowhere, she picked it up and began to walk back from where she had come from.

'I wonder if I can sell this...'

As Eden shrieked behind him, Vis continued on his charge without faltering. Although it may seem like he was just a bit too aggressive, too hotheaded to listen, it would be wrong to say that he simply brushed everything aside. He was listening to Eden alright, he usually did, to be honest, Eden was the voice of reason, someone who saw the world in a different way than Vis did, and every bit that the boy shared with him and Feli was always fascinating to no end. Especially upon subjects that they had no clue how to make heads or tails of. Vis was far from stupid, very far. ... Don't laugh, he simply lacks reason on most occasions, this situation being a prime example.

With Eden latched onto his back securely now - and no, it wasn't a piggyback ride because that was not manly, not when the passenger was a chibi redhead screeching and tumbling behind him - Vis pushed himself faster and faster. Eden had been a bit of a drag, as the shorter haired chibi clung to him in a rather dangerous manner - by the sleeve of all things, it was a wonder he hadn't fallen off yet. However, with every step that the redhead took, it seemed like the ... what was it Eden called it, the dead ghost spirit? Whatever, the living ice cream was four to six steps faster than he was, and that was absolutely absurd. Vis continued to give chase though, but soon enough, the spirit thing was just too far out, it's image in his eyes growing smaller and smaller as it galloped away through the thick trees and bushes of the ever darkening forest.

"..." As the last of the light trickled away through the heavier and denser part of the forest, Vis digged his feet into the ground to stop himself, he had to mind his passenger you know, as much as he wanted to just fall over and roll to a stop, Eden would probably get squished and flattened in a second tops. Not ideal, not when it was getting this dark and creepy anyway, soon they won't be able to even see! Crap. Where were they and how were they going to get out of this one? "Eden?" He called out, shrugging his shoulders to get a response from the other redhead.

"WHAT DO WE DO NOW?!" He yelled loudly, his arms flailing as he screamed to the treetops above.

As they thankful lost sight of the ghostly light, Vis finally skidded into a stop, nearly smashing their pretty skulls together in the process. Eden could only groan in pain as blood seemed to flow properly in his head again with vengence, which gave the smaller red head a brief but disorienting and vicious blood rush and a headache. He definitely shouldn't have screamed that much. Blood rushes were annoying as much as they were painful. And Vis' screaming and flailing didn't help him at all. So Eden did the only thing that he could do at the moment.

The last of his fear turning into annoyance and possibly a good bit of anger. Blindly, he reached into food bag that was hanging off of Vis grab whatever he could, thankfully it was a soft loaf of bread and not hard apple, and promptly shoved it into Vis' open mouth.

"Stop...talking...for two seconds...before I...I...ugh..." Giving up on the threat because it's honestly not very scary or effective because he seemed to have screamed himself hoarse, Eden released his death grip on Vis' shoulders and tumbled off the taller boy. He practically tripped backwards with legs of jello, before his back hit the trunk of a tree. He slid down bonelessly, put his head between his knees and closed his eyes, trying to fight off headache. If this was just a blood rush, what was motionsickness? Or a...what was it that the adults complained about? Hanging out? Hanging over? Hangover? Whatever it was. He never wants to know. The adults can keep their adult sicknesses.

And Vis can keep his impromptu piggyback rides to himself. This was never happening again.

After feeling the effects of the blood rush fade, Eden hoarsely growled with a viciousness of a rough-housed kitten. Potentially dangerous but also not fitting the image of potentially dangerous. Especially since the boy didn't even lift his head. "What. The heck. Were. You. Even. Thinking. What if you lost me back there while you were running?!"

Not letting him answer, Eden jerked his head up to glare at Vis. The fiery red head stood up and jabbed a finger towards him. "You would have been stuck in this stupid forest filled with things that can probably eat you without even batting an eyelash. You probably didn't even pay attention to where you were going with your cotton and ice cream filled head! And now you ask me what we do now?! Well obviously we have to find our way back before the stupid ghost comes back!"

Breathing heavily, anger spent, Eden gripped Vis' elbow and marched the way they came like a silent storm. Not noticing the two dragon eggs, covered in strong roots, slowly peering out of the ground behind them, out of their view.

Even plants know not to play with fire.

Feli was annoyed. No, actually scratch that, she was pissed off.

The black-haired girl always marched onward with confidence, knowing for sure that she would be able to find her way back. She may be unable to read those random scribbles on that piece of paper called a map, but she never forgot where she came from. Ever.

Her current predicament didn't make any sense. She was sure that she had followed the exact way that she had come from, yet in front of her were unfamiliar trees. She had gone back to the place where she had seen the light and traced her steps back yet again, but she still couldn't find the exit of the forest. She hadn't taken a wrong turn, so what was wrong?

This was one of the first times where she couldn't tell whether she was going deeper into the forest or closer to the exit and it was not pleasant in the least. Was this how the lost travelers in the stories felt when they wandered around endlessly until they died? Was she going to die too?

......

Definitely not. She was not going to accept death. Unless something or someone was messing with these woods, and if something was it better be prepared for a beating or strangulation, there had to be an exit somewhere and as much as Feli hated looking for new exits, she had no choice but to.

Suddenly, she heard a distinct scream that almost sounded like someone was scolding someone.

.....

Maybe she would even find Eden and Vis along the way.

Sighing, Feli changed the direction towards the source of the screaming. The moment she got back to the orphanage, she was going to get a nice red apple.

As Eden dished out the very intense chewing out, Vis did his best not to shrink or back down from the chibi. With each word, Vis felt his cheeks flaming up, his stomach weighing heavily, as if all the food from before had suddenly gone bad, leaving a horrible aftertaste as well. Oho, and the glare that was sent? Pfft, nothing to worry about. Vis knew that Eden wasn't ... truly angry, not angry enough to throw rocks at him at least, but the fact that the shorter redhead resembled a hissing housecat was all the hint he needed to know that the other boy was clearly upset. Now what was that about cotton and ice cream?

Vis knew that he had screwed up spectacularly here, but there were a few things that he desperately needed to sort out with the other boy. Namely, the whole 'dropping Eden behind' thing. There was simply no way Vis would do such a thing, he may be a hotheaded reckless fool most of the time, but surely, he would have stopped and picked the boy up to continue, no matter how many times Eden was dropped. Was that the problem? The number of times Vis would have dropped him? Now that he thought about it, it did sound pretty bad, and ice cream probably wouldn't make up for the bruises at the end of the wild search in the end.

So Vis allowed the chibi to grab onto him and lead the way this time, no longer squirming and fighting the hold on his sleeve this time. His footsteps lagged and were dragged slowly behind the shorter, whose strides were to small for Vis to make an actual step, having to shuffle behind to stay in line. However, as Vis turned his head around his shoulder one last time, merely to check the clear patch between the trees for an approximate time, he noticed the slightest of movement, an unnatural movement and froze on the spot. His feet pausing mid-shuffle as Eden's tiny footsteps tapped on a few more. Eyes wildly searching from high to low, Vis blinked, gulped before his eyes came upon an abnormal growing of roots.

Thankfully, ignorance was a blessing, and Vis was quick to brush off the odd shaping of the roots. Like Eden had said, there were probably things in here that could feast upon the entire orphanage, it was best that they quick get out of there least they attract them all back 'home'. Oh!

"Eden! Feli! We need to get Feli, too!" He told the other boy, his tone obviously more subdued now, as if scared, but still confident enough to poke at the lion that was awake. Just as he said it though, there was a rustling from the bushes just ahead, and with his superior height, Vis managed to see a purple blob before anything else. "Oh! Feli, finally got here, did ya?" He yelled, waving his arms around for the girl to notice them.

And parseltongue!Eden???

It honestly didn't take much for Eden to keep himself angry at Vis. Gods know that the taller red head definitely needed it every once in a while. Even when Vis actually listened to him without the usual struggle for once, sans the slight pause, Eden refused to let the leftover embers of his anger to smothered even the tiniest bit. Instead, the smaller boy let it burn steadily. Not letting it get any fiercer nor dimmer.

So, when Vis shattered the silence with yelling, it didn't matter that Vis remembered that Feli had ran off on her own! He had known that from the very beginning! Eden just glared at him balefully from the corner of his eye. When he tried to snap at him to be quiet, because the whole forest did not need to hear where they were again, only an irritated hiss of air escaped from his throat like that of an aggravated snake. He sighed in frustration.

He really, really did not like how today came out.

Instead of verbally knocking some sense into their heads, Eden settled for just silently burning holes into both of their heads. 'I swear I will punch you both. I don't care if violence doesn't solve everything! I will. Punch you. If either of you run off on your own again.

Too busy trying to burn his thoughts into Feli's and Vis' minds, Eden didn't even see the strange roots creeping closer and closer to them. Quietly, the roots unfurled before burrowing back into the ground. Leaving the two smooth stone-like dragon eggs gently resting on the ground, sparkling softly in the dappled sunlight like crystalline stained glass.

Feli was just about ready to kick a tree. To be honest, the only thing keeping her from doing so was the fact that the trees themselves had done nothing wrong (probably) and kicking the hard trunk of a tree would hurt her foot more than relieve any stress.

Normally people would feel fear or despair when they were endlessly lost, but not Feli. The emotions that Feli was experiencing were closer to anger if anything. She had never gotten lost like this before and as much as she hated to admit it, it severely hurt her pride to get lost. Instead of the subtle, but familiar signs that were almost like an arrow pointing to home, Feli got an endless sea of trees that she had never seen before. The black-haired girl was also starting to get tired from walking around so much while carrying the purple object that she had found a while ago.

Deciding to take a short rest, Feli sat and laid her back on the trunks of one of the trees. Spotting a plant that she recognized as an edible plant, she plucked it, placed the stem in her mouth, and began to chew on it slowly. She wasn't really hungry, but she needed something to do while sitting there.

Suddenly, the small girl perked up. She heard a voice, and not just any voices: it was Vis.

Feli stood up promptly and walked towards the direction of Vis' voice. She soon spotted them with little difficulty as their red hair was easy to spot within the mass of green and brown and Vis was waving his hands in the air madly.

"Oh, you managed to not get eaten."

Vis scoffed, his arms opening wide, gesturing to the forest that encircled them, "Eaten? The sun's still up, and besides, I'm basically the King here, as if anything would dare," he joked as he raised his nose upwards. Taking a silent sniff, Vis concentrated for a few seconds, his heart hammaring away, before he finally settled, his arms lowering with his relaxed posture. There wasn't any smell of a nearby rabid animal, those he could definitely smell ... after all, it smelled worse than an entire basket of filthy nasty clothes, and Vis knew just how revolting the smell could get. Animals who hadn't ever had a bath? Most likely worse. Thankfully, only the fresh smell of .... trees and grass overwhelmed his senses, nothing too foul detected.

Still, Vis glanced back up at the clear patch above the leafs once more, watching how the ray of orange light seemed to burn into a darker and darker color by the minute, it's ray moving on from the clearing Eden had stopped him at. If the sun was truly making it's way down the horizon, it would be best to make haste and head back to the orphanage. That, and they would probably miss dinner if they waddled any longer here, and Vis vehemently refused to make do with stolen berries and whatever edible flowers were around.

However, as Vis dropped his gaze from the top of the treelines, and swept around the trio once more, his eyes caught onto something suspicious. Without a second thought, the redhead spun on his heel, his back towards the very, very suspicious colored spark in the corner of his eye as he marched on a few steps, almost meeting Feli half way, before he placed both hands on her shoulders and turned her right 'round - in the direction the two redheads were headed towards anyway when suddenly he caught a proper look at the object in her arms.

"Feli. That thing is full of diseases, plagues, and smells super funny if you keep it on you for a long time, you should definitely leave it be," Vis lied, his face turning into a stiff smile, his smile painfully innocent, his eyes fixed straight ahead. The redhead was in a state of total denial at the moment. He had gotten himself in hot water with Eden because of a stupid floating ice cream looking thing, who knows what these super suspicious eggs might be onto his shoulders? An Eden that breathed fire? Hopefully the purple haired girl would heed his words and kick it away, she was a girl, and no girl liked smelly things, right? Or anybody for that matter.

The faster Eden lead them out of here the better. He would find another day to properly explore, without Eden, but with a long string of rope maybe. He'd simply tie it with one of the trees at the front and wander in. Yes, of course. Only Vis could think of such an idea at this level of genius. "Eden, come on, come on, let's go~" He singsonged, shaking Feli back and forth in between his words.

Comments: Will they ever get out of here??? Dun dun dun~ This took forever to get out... = =

While the children chattered, sans the temporary mute child, one of the dragon eggs on the forest floor rocked impatiently. The egg with various shades of greens and spots of dark blues rolled in place, trying to get the attention of the shorter red head, nearly ramming itself into its sibling in the process. It didn't want to get left behind! It needed to get its rider's attention. But...the shorter red head seemed too annoyed to really pay attention. And scared. But annoyance was bigger. Was this a conflict? What was it supposed to do? How was it supposed to fufill its duty?

It was so close. So lonely.

~ O ~

Eden's eyes narrowed with clear irritation as Vis rambled on about Feli's trinket with that weird smile thing that he did sometimes. What was he trying to pull? The trinket was obviously just a rock. A rock that he had to admit that looked like it could sell well, which was probably the reason why Feli brought something like that in the first place. But it was a rock nonetheless. And rocks don't even give diseases unless you try to eat it. Which is something that Vis would do not Feli. Most likely.

'Better a rock than a ghost, Vis.' he hissed in a futile effort to get some words to chuck at their thick skulls but with no success. Vis wasn't in any position to pick at Feli. Nor was Feli in any position to pick at Vis. They were both irresponsible. And they were both idiots. Idiots.

He practically breathed fire when Vis cheered about going home like Eden hadn't been telling them to from the beginning. He opened his mouth to give him the third degree before closing it with a frustrated click at his lack of voice for said third degree. Instead he settled for brushing past them to head the way they came from, expecting them to follow. Because if they didn't...he was going find a way to set them on fire. Literally set them on fire.

~ O ~

It panicked. Honestly, the irrational impulse came from panic. What was it supposed to do when its rider was going to leave it behind?! So the green egg tumbled past the other two children like a hastily launched bowling ball and rammed itself into the back of its rider's legs.

It wanted to squeal in shame.

But surely its rider couldn't ignore it now. So a little harm isn't too bad...yes...? He wouldn't leave it behind, yes? It did try its very best...

~ O ~

Eden couldn't even scream when he was rather suddenly tripped backwards by a...green stone? He painfully landed on his rear end with the said stone underneath his abused legs. The moment he recovered from his shock he immediately assumed Vis or Feli did something. Because stones did NOT move on their own. He glared at them with his temper flaring once more. Eden gripped the green stone with both hands promising pain because that hurt like a sack of raw potatoes and it wasn't funny at all. But just as quickly as the anger came, it left just as quickly. It withered away like a wilting weed leaving only the smallest residue of irritation.

He puffed out a sigh. He couldn't really get angry at them for an accident. Vis and Feli were annoying idiots but they weren't bullies. So with a calmer and more reasonable mind, he grimaced and turned away from his friends. He knew he had a horrible temper. No, he didn't throw temper tantrums. He just had trouble...stopping it.

He ignored the usual, heavy and horrible feeling of guilt that came after his worser moods.

The shortest ten year old of the trio focused his attention to the thing that tripped him. It looked pretty similar to the thing that Feli knicked from who knows where. It was...weird. Instead of feeling angry or scared, Eden felt strangely at ease with the stone in his hands.

He rubbed it with a wryly look on his face. It felt polished. Maybe it was one of those blessed stones? But why would it be in a scary place like this?
