With exam season coming to a close and a warm, freeing summer just on the horizon, it is no surprise that the Denver International Airport is immensely crowded. Families huddle together and push to the crowds on their way to a tropical getaway while individuals weave through with such speed and agility that they are hardly noticed among the herd of people. Young adults exit the gates. looking around for their families anxiously awaiting their return from far away universities and colleges. Even at such an early hour, the airport is buzzing with activity. Summer is an interesting and special time indeed.

Outside, two large buses pull up to a set of large glass doors.

The first bus is filled with twenty high school students, both sleepy and oddly awake all at the same time, and six chaperoning teachers from a local private school, Melrose Private Secondary School. Most of these kids are wealthy and they're the best of the best, the cream of the crop. They're here to participate on a volunteer trip to Somalia. Their objective is to use their diverse and highly specialized skills to better the lives of those who are less fortunate than they are.

The second bus is much less comfortable. The clanking of metal and the protesting groans of tired beings are almost as loud as the idling engine. There are teenagers of a different sort on this bus. All fifteen youths are criminal offenders from a small prison and rehabilitation center from downtown Denver. Their crimes range from car theft to assault but all have been deemed safe for this trial trip. They are to join the prestigious Melrose students on their humanitarian aid trip to Somalia. They are to support the students and use the time in Somalia to work hard and prove that they are good people deserving of their freedom. If they are wellbehaved and helpful, their sentences will be reduced or ended when they return to the United States.

Neither group is exactly thrilled to be working with the other. Why would some of the best kids in Denver want to be working with the grimy criminal filth of the city and why would the antagonized criminals want to live and act in the shadows of a bunch of rich brown-nosers for an entire summer? However, everyone on the trip knows the stipulations: there is to be no fighting or arguing, only collaboration and helping. Whoever thought that was going to work is just plain stupid.

All the teens are put through the security checks to get onto the plane. Surprisingly, everything seemed to go off without a hitch. Now at 4:28am on June 4, 2018, the two groups are seated in the small 60 passenger plane that will be taking them to Somalia. The students sit on the left side of the plane among their friends. Meanwhile, the criminals sit on the right side with their hands still shackled in shiny silver handcuffs. Ten minutes until takeoff.

Jolena sat silently in her seat, leaning her head lightly against the wall as she stared out the small ovate window. This was the first time she had been in the outside world since that fateful day in the abandoned warehouse two years ago. Jo rugged her upper arm absent-mindedly at the memory of the bullet that used to be embedded there. Annoyed with the handcuffs around her wrists, she returned her hands to her lap shortly after. Any excitement she would have had about traveling was squelched by the idea of spending time with the ignorant and arrogant students from that fancy prep school. While they may have more book smarts, Joey knew that her and the rest of the underage criminals sitting on the plane had far more street smarts.

Unfortunately, Jolena hadn't given herself a choice to avoid the condescending stares of the Melrose Private Secondary School students on that trip. With the promise of a reduced or terminated sentence in return for completion of this so-called humanitarian trip, Jolena knew she had to participate. The brunette still had no idea if her father and the rest of her mafia family had made it out of that warehouse two years ago. The mafia lawyer had attended her trial and defended her. But no one else from her life had showed. The lawyer refused to speak with her about anything but her own involvement and the trial. She just needed to know if they were alive or dead. It was the not knowing that got to her.

Jolena shook those thoughts away, looking down at the sensitive red marks circling her wrists from the too-tight cuffs. She wasn't quite sure why they were still required to wear them since they apparently trusted the criminals enough to let them on that trip in the first place. Then again, it was useless to try to understand the logic of the guards' rather minuscule brains. Biting her lip gently, Jolena began to feel the anxiety of the upcoming events build up in her chest. She had never traveled outside of the United States before, let alone flown on an airplane. Drawing had always been something that calmed Jo's mind. So, she pulled out her sketchpad from the backpack at her feet and began working on a drawing of a songbird she had seen during an outdoors free period at the detention center.

Quinn traced her fingers across the rim of the airplane window, her lips parted slightly and an innocent amazement playing out across her features. She whipped around with a gleeful smile to the seat next to her, a flash of dismay gleaming in her eyes as she realized nobody had sat there yet. Smiling it off warmly, she stood and leaned over the seat in front of her, hoping to see a familiar face. Instead, she saw a head of tousled auburn hair and a pair of dull silver handcuffs shackled around the girl's wrists. Her smile falling from her face, she plopped back down without a word.

Though the idea of a humanitarian trip appealed to Quinn, it appealed to her resume even more. However, she just couldn't shake the feeling of tension in the air with the criminals aboard the plane with them. Shuddering with the knowledge of the things these people could do, she turned away and absentmindedly fiddled with the knot in her shirt. Sliding her phone out of her pocket, she popped her headphones on and flicked on her music. The bittersweet lyrics filled her ears, washing away the surroundings. And it comes in waves, just when I think I'm safe...

Tris had been less than thrilled to be getting up at two thirty in the morning to get to the airport on time with the other prisoners. She was even less thrilled to find out that she would likely be shackled for the entirety of the incredibly long plane ride. What exactly did they think was she going to do? Take over the plane and fly her way to freedom as if she was Tom Cruise in Top Gun? There was going to be a whole lot of guards and security personnel on the flight, how the hell would she even begin to allow her 'criminal' side to run free? She stole cars, not damn planes!

Maybe this trip would be good for her, finally give her some relative sense of purpose that she had been searching for. Tris isn't a bad person, she's a good person raised in a bad environment with little to no guidance on what is right and wrong. After talking among her prisoner peers, it didn't take her long to figure out that most of them were only going to get their sentences reduced or removed entirely. Of course, the bonus of freedom in a timely manner is an incredible bonus, but Tris signed up with a small spark of actually wanting to do good for once inside of her. She would never let on the truth behind her motives though, it would ruin her 'reputation'.

Tris makes her way onto the plane, attempting not to move her hands too much as to avoid the rub burns against her pale skin. She spots an empty set of seats in the middle of the small plane and slides into the window seat, glaring at her correctional officer who sits in the seat behind her. With a roll of her eyes, she sighs and leans her head back into the headrest. This was going to be one long-ass plane ride.

Tris looks around for someone to talk to and spots a few others already on the plane. Jolena, another one of the criminals in Tris' group, is seated in the column of seats beside her, two rows in front. Tris smiles softly, finding comfort in the familiar face busying herself with drawing. Behind Joey is a rather pretty, petite girl with really nice hair; clearly one of the Melrose punks. Tris eyes the girl, looking at her with curiosity. She looked so clean cut, so doe eyed to the world. If only these rich brats had seen half the things that her, Joey, and the other criminals had seen. Tris isn't jealous of them, quite the opposite in fact. Everyone ought to have one hard experience to shape their lives. These kids are often so sheltered and cared for that they never see the world how it truly is. Tris hates that.

Tris stretches out her legs and arms, moving her neck in a failed attempt to remove the crick in it. Those stupid prison beds suck. She looks to the seat next to her, wondering who would sit beside her. Hopefully it will be Sky, one of the few people who rarely drives her nuts. He is her right hand after all.

For someone as quiet and rather reserved as he is, Jude is rather well adjusted to travelling on his own. He flies to and from Cork and Denver multiple times a year to see his family during his breaks from school. Most people shudder at the concept of a long, drawn out flight, but Jude doesn't even bat an eye.

Jude steps onto the plane and looks for an empty seat, hopefully close to some of his few friends. After stowing his carry on bag in the overhead storage, he takes off his denim jacket and tucks it up as well. Planes always get so terribly hot and stuffy and jean doesn't breathe in the slightest. He decides to sit down in the row between an older girl he goes to school with, Quinn, and his two friends, Robin and Vance. He waves hello to Quinn, not bothering to speak since her headphones were in and he didn't want to be a bother.

When Jude found out that Robin and Vance were going on the humanitarian trip as well, he was incredibly happy. Jude always had a hard time making friends since his time is almost entirely devoted to his studies and his job as a tutor. Luckily, he met Vance through tutoring and met Robin through him. The three of them are rather close and Jude considers them some of his best friends. Who better to have going on the trip than two people he loves spending time with.

Jude slides into the window seat and checks to make sure he has what he needs for the flight. Some of his summer reading books, a blanket, a pillow, and some other minor things like his phone charger and headphones. He settles into his seat and lets out a prolonged yawn, pouting at the fatigue plaguing his mind.

"I hope this flight isn't too bad, I need to get work done." He mumbles to himself, his accent thick and hard to understand through his grogginess.

Madison was one of the first to board the plane, she was beyond excited for this, she had been the minute she signed herself up for it. She had her backpack hanging off her shoulder while she held her passport, boarding pass and phone in her hand. She was reading the seat numbers looking for her seat, once she was sitting she placed her backpack at her feet and put her boarding pass and passport away, not wanting to lose either documents.

As she sat there looking at the other students board along with the criminals, she started to think of all the times she’s travelled and as she thought she remembered the trips her family would take to Florida or to Mexico or that one time when her Dad thought it would be fun to go to Greenland, yeah that trip only happened once. Thinking back on these memories it did strike a bit of missing home but she knew what she was doing was a great opportunity and once they arrived and started doing the work, her family would be the last thing on her mind.

She put her headphones in putting on some soft tunes and just relaxing knowing this flight was long and she could feel sleep wanting to take over but she wouldn't fall asleep till they were in the air, so she just sat there and watched everyone else do their own thing.

Jason Deangelo

Tap. Tap . . tap. The sound of the correctional officer's fingers tapping against the upper left side of his backrest prompted Jason to slightly furrow his brows. It wasn't exactly the teen's favorite hobby to have someone literally looking over his shoulder eyeing his every move. Unfortunately, this was a circumstance Jace learned to live with for the past two years. Having a thorough background in almost all kinds of crimes made him one of the most daring last minute additions to the trip.

The all-around criminal leaned back in his seat, silently looking forward at the cockpit's ajar door. A number of thoughts were gradually drowning out the disturbing taps by his shoulder. In all honesty, Jace looked forward to the trip. He saw it as a way to make up for all his wrongdoings. Though, he knew nothing actually could take back what had already been accomplished.

Getting on a plane for the second time in his life made the experience all the more somewhat exciting, even if this vehicle seemed smaller and cheaper compared to the one he used transferring from the Los Angeles facility to Denver. Shackle. The sound of Jolena's cuffs snapped the guy back to reality. His hazel gaze shifted down to Jo's reddened wrists maneuvering as best as they could under the metal bounds in order to draw her bird. Now this was a true artist. Jo was drawing something so detailed even with her hands tied.

"Isn't this against safety protocol?" Jason's hazel gaze momentarily shifted around the area as he raised himself a couple inches from his seat and looked over his shoulder to view the tapping officer. The young man raised a brow and his hands only to be greeted by a straight face. As usual, there was a brief moment of silence that began settling between them until Jace decided to sit back down in his seat. His eyes secretly studying the cuffs around his wrists instead.

The joke was on them though. Escaping hand cuffs was usually easy for this private magician. He just chose not to get into more trouble.

Jason eventually found himself glancing back at Jo who was sitting next to him drawing like the artist she was, but in handcuffs. The scene itself was almost symbolic.

Robin Belmonte Jr.

Robin was stoked. Aside from him nearly tripping into the plane, he thought that their journey was off to a great start! Just look at it. He already got one of the best seats in the plane right next to his good buddies Vance and Jude. Now, if only the rest of his classmates could brighten up about the adventure of a lifetime. "Yo, I'm ready!" Robin quietly announced so only those closest to him would hear with a fist pump following shortly after. His opposite hand fumbled for the seat's belt buckle before reaching around him and clipping it into place. 4 a.m. wasn't exactly his ideal travel time, but he was thankful for the opportunity nonetheless.

Robin leaned forward in his seat observing Jude as he sat down. If anything, his friend was starting to sound like an adult on a business trip. "Uh . . I heard 'work'," Robin mentioned trying to understand Jude's thicker morning accent. It was something that the guy had gotten used to, but Jude's words at 4 a.m. almost sounded nothing like Jude at lunch time. "C'mon man, I know you travel all the time, but what about with the rest of us?" He questioned with a raised brow, ". . Just make sure you get some fun in." A closed-mouth, harmless smile temporarily concluded Robin's morning hype.

With that, the teen took a brief break of silence as he folded his hands behind his head and leaned back. Somalia was going to be epic! Although the area wasn't known for the best technological practices, Robin was all-in for letting his basic tech mechanisms influence the area. If things went according to plan, he could be considered a modern-day super hero!

Blue prints, automated apparatuses, water-powered machines . . His mind began dreaming of the endless possibilities he'd bring to the area to improve their quality of life. That was of course until a sudden movement caught his eye.

Robin paused finding his gaze on a person uncomfortably stretching around. For some reason, the girl's face looked too familiar. What he didn't realize though was just how many seconds he tried playing the guessing game. Robin's eyes were stalled on the girl a lot longer than he intended.

"She doesn't bite," Robin jumped up at the sudden voice, turning his head to see a guy indifferently looking his way. "Oh, I just thought she looked familiar, that's all," Robin mentioned getting taken off guard by his first interaction with one of the people from the Denver facility. Jason tilted forward in his seat peering back at Tris, "Hey Tris, this guy says he's seen you before."

"Tris?" Robin froze with eyes wider than whatever else was wide. This guy only knew one Tris, and the last time they saw one another his body was two-thirds the size of his classmates. His voice also couldn't tell the difference between low and high. "It's Robin," He blurted out trying to see if she would remember him.

Tris' mind began to wander as she sat, waiting for everyone to finish loading the small plane. Her eyes drifted to the window she is seated next to, looking out at the oddly busy tarmac. In the distance, a large plane taxis down the runway and up into the air, the landing gear swooping up gracefully underneath it. She wondered where the much larger plane was heading. Maybe somewhere tropical, a place with waterfalls and dolphins and sunshine. Or maybe somewhere historic, like the great city of Athens in Greece or Paris, France. She lets out a romantic sigh. If only she could be on a plane like that instead of a plane like this, sitting much too close together like sardines with metal handcuffs biting into the delicate flesh of her wrists.

It takes a moment for Tris' mind to return to the present and to stop daydreaming about what could be. She could hear her father now, telling her to get her head out of the clouds and her feet on the ground. There was no time for dreaming as a child, the stark reality of her life kept her locked away from the typical imagination that runs a child's mind. After her father's death, she spent a lot of time in her head to avoid the truth. It was much easier to pretend that she was someone else somewhere else and not a terrified, homeless child on the run from the life that plagued her. Why envision your father dead on the ground when you can think of sunshine and a beach somewhere that you've probably never heard of?

The sound of Jason's voice brings Tris back to reality. As she hears his biting joke, she laughs slightly. "Oh come on, you know I only bite if you ask nicely, Jace." She teases, her eyes still watching the people down below.

It isn't until she hears another voice that Tris even bothers to look back into the cabin of the plane and to the people around her. A few more people had gotten onto the plane, mostly students, but the speaker stands out from the crowd. Where on earth did she know this guy from? Surely he isn't a prison kid, much too clean cut for that. He's much too young to be a teacher or a correctional officer, nor does he have that kind of energy to him. That makes him a Melrose student. But how the hell would someone like Tris, who's been in prison since she was sixteen, know one of those stuck ups?

"Tris? It's Robin."

Tris' face immediately pales. She squints her eyes slightly and tilts her head, attempting to make sense of it all. No, that's impossible. He's much too old to be Robin and why would he be attending Melrose? However, the more she looks at the boy, it all comes back to her. Take Robin from four years ago and age him up. He was thirteen the last time they saw each other, making him seventeen now. A lot can happen in that length of time, especially to someone in that age range. There were certain features that confirmed her old friend's identity. His eyes, for one, hadn't changed since the last time they spoke. But it's his smile that tells her that it really is him.

"R-Robin?" Tris stutters. Of course she remembered him, how could she not? "What are you doing here?" She asks, her typically strong voice wavering and cracking slightly.

A sudden feeling of guilt rushes over the girl and her gaze drops from Robin's face to the handcuffs around her wrists. When Tris went to jail, she abandoned Robin. She couldn't bring herself to call him once she had phone privileges. She wrote him a letter once while inside, about three months after she got arrested, but ripped it up and threw it out instead of sending it. She didn't want such a good kid getting involved in all of the shit she had gotten herself into. She felt no regrets about her decision to not speak to him. But now, seeing him grown up, a part of her feels terrible for simply leaving him behind. Tris never thought that she'd ever see Robin again, much less be going on the same trip together! Would she have stopped talking to him if she thought that she would ever see him again? No, her decision was for the best. Clearly Robin is doing well for himself and perhaps her absence helped that.

Tris tucks her handcuffed wrists between her knees, attempting to hide their presence, before looking back up at Robin. She couldn't believe that he is really here.

Jude looks up and smiles softly at the appearance of his friend, Robin. He hadn't noticed Robin when he had spoken to himself. Even early in the morning, Robin is oddly cheerful. It is that radiating optimism and kindness that really sets Robin apart from the group, next to his admirable intelligence when it comes to technology. Although science and technology are very closely related, Jude simply could never grasp the complex material Robin ever tried to explain to him. He understood the basics along with most of the scientific aspects but how it all comes together or how it actually works leaves Jude's mind reeling. He would much rather sit down with his physics textbooks and work through problems there instead of battling with technology. After all, it did take the poor guy a little longer than he'd like to admit to figure out the ins and outs of his mysterious iPhone. Clearly tech isn't his thing.

At Robin's gentle words, Jude's cheeks flush red with embarrassment. Damn, he really needs to work on the clarity of his speech. "If I don't do the work now, I'll have to do it all when I get back. It's better to work in smaller pieces as to not get stressed." Jude explains, careful to speak slowly and as clear as possible. He smiles softly and nods. "But I promise I will try to have some fun. After all, it is summer and this trip is going to be amazing!" He laughs cheerfully.

Jude looks around the plane, taking note of who isn't there yet. He's shocked to find that their president and co-president, Hana and Lydia, aren't on the plane yet. He makes a mental note to tease Hana about her tardiness later when she shows up. Punctuality is a particularly important characteristic for a lady of such a high standing to have. He then notices Madison sitting in her seat with her headphones in, quietly watching from afar.

Jude and Mads never really interacted much since they're on two very different playing fields. While Madison would probably go on to compete in the Olympics somewhere due to her athletic prowess, the closest thing Jude could ever get is the science Olympics. The poor tall, lanky guy simply could never get his boy to work as well as his brain did. His face aches at the thought of all the times he got nailed in the nose by a rogue basketball or soccer ball. Luckily for him (and his teammates), his academic commitments often allowed him to skip out of P.E. to spend time studying or working on other assignments.

He smiles warmly at Madison and waves with his left index and middle fingers. Perhaps he didn't know her well before but if they're going to be on this trip together, they may as well get to know one another. After all, this trip could lead to some great friendships.

As she sat there waiting for the plane to take off, she could feel herself getting anxious. She closed her eyes and allowed herself to listen to the music in her ears and thought of something that wasn't related to the moment she was experiencing right now. Once she was calm she opened her eyes again and stayed in her seat just observing. She looked around too see which spots weren't taken and too see her fellow classmates engaged in conversation along with the criminals as well, say what you will about these criminals but she believed if they were allowed to attend this trip then they must not have been that bad, of course others may disagree but that's what she believed as of right now.

As she was looking around she
noticed a boy who she recognized to be Jude Kelly, waving at her in a friendly matter, she waved back not being rude. Her and Jude had never actually had a full conversation before it was usually just small talk in class as they shared science and math together. She also offered him a genuine smile being her polite self. While she was waiting she reached down to her backpack opening it and reaching inside for a granola bar she had packed as she knew she would get hungry on the plane, she opened the wrapper and quietly ate her granola bar still listening to her tunes.

Jolena pulled the pencil back from the page, examining her work. The drawing still needed some shading, and a few of the lines were shaky due to the metal cuffs around her wrists. But she was happy with the way it was turning out. Feeling the gaze of someone else on her, she looked up to find the girl in front of her peering over the seat. Jo kept her expression neutral, and the happy smile immediately dropped from the girl's face. She disappeared behind the peak of the seat almost as quick as she had appeared. Joey shrugged, looking back down at her drawing. She had no intentions of making friends with the naive, silver spoon kids from the fancy prep school. She doubted they would ever want to be friends with her anyway.

Jolena felt more eyes on her, causing the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end. She was acutely aware of her surroundings, always cautious and hyper alert. It was a skill imparted in her by her childhood, and the constant lectures from her father not to trust anyone outside of the family. Anyone could be a cop, anyone could want to take her and use her as leverage, anyone could have it out for them. It's what made it hard for Joey to make friends. She's gotten a bit better since going to jail, but not much.

Joey looked over to find Jason, one of the few people she had managed to befriend, watching her draw. She offered him a small smile, knowing a good amount of the drawings in her sketchbook were challenges he had issued upon her. She glanced at the other guy when Jace spoke up, acknowledging both one of Melrose kids and Tris. She tilted her head in curiosity, wondering what the connection between the two was. Tris seemed a bit unsure and uncomfortable, which was a bit uncommon for her. Jo, however, stayed silent, not wanting to put her nose in other people's business.

Lydia had always prided herself on her timeliness, there were few times that she had ever been truly late. Unfortunately, despite that it was one of the most important days of her life so far, today was one of those days. With rushed movements, she tore her closet apart in search of the clothes she had picked out the night before, tripping on her own feet as she quickly pulled a pair of skinny blue jeans on. She decided she was taking too much time in finding the lacey white shirt she had originally planned on wearing, and instead grabbed a white t-shirt and threw that on along with a red Dead Pool zip-up hoodie. Lydia slipped on her black converse that had flower patterns along the side and grabbed her carry-on bag, thankful that she had thrown her suitcase in the trunk of her dads’ car the night before. She grabbed her phone, packed her charging cable, and got into the passenger side of the red Kia her dad owned. As her father drove, she finger combed the long brown mess that was her hair and braided it so there was one on each side, finishing the look with a black floral patterned snapback.

An hour later she found herself hugging her dad goodbye, with promises to return soon, and that yes, she would get him some souvenirs. It didn’t take her long to make it through security, where she then booked it towards the area that her plane was loading. The attendant that was guiding fellow passengers to their respective terminal shot her a dirty look once she arrived.

“You’re lucky. There’s 15 minutes left before take-off.” The attendant gestured toward the door that lead to the plane that she was to get on, before looking over Lydias’ shoulder to take care of the person behind her. With a sheepish smile, Lydia thanked her before scurrying towards the aforementioned door. Once she made it fully on, she craned her head to look for her fellow students in order to be sure that they were all boarded and waved towards Hana once she caught her eye and started towards her.

“Hey, sorry I’m running late! I forgot to set an alarm.” She looked sheepish, embarrassed about her timeliness, especially since she knew the student president wouldn’t be amused with her. Without waiting for a reply, she set to finding an open spot. Most of the people that she would normally sit with had already buddied up with other friends. It left her with minimal choices, one being the gym teacher, one of the chaperones, who always harped on her for not being athletically motivated enough during gym class. Lydia had no intentions of sitting next to the man, knowing that by the end of the flight she’d want to blow her own brains out. Instead she took the outside spot that was two rows ahead of him.

Glad that her suitcase had been taken to be loaded earlier and that all she had to carry was a small book bag with an extra outfit and some toiletries, she stuffed the bag into the overhead compartment and immediately set forth buckling her seat belt. Next to her was an elderly woman who looked just as excited as she was. Lydia decided that she had made a good choice and was almost instantly swindled into a conversation with the woman.

Jason Deangelo

Jason temporarily looked back and forth between Robin and Tris noting their reactions. If anything, the two knew each other when they were kids. Interesting combo. He thought to himself before turning back around in his seat and leaning to stretch his back. "Here's a challenge," He casually mentioned as he moved his gaze from the bird drawing to Jo, "Draw a scene of what you think Somalia would be like." A small smirk crept onto his face at the random idea, "Then before we leave, you can draw the actual scene in front of you." The two drawings placed side-by-side would be pretty cool souvenirs. As he blew out some air, Jason lifted his cuffed hands over his head and slid them into the space that remained between the headrest.

There was a tense sensation that flowed in the air between both main groups in the plane. The Melrose students as of now seemed uncomfortable with the Denver facility's representatives. Meanwhile, a few of his friends felt the urge to keep to themselves or even try to hide the cuffs around their wrists.

Jason moved a hand through his hair as he sighed. They all had to work with each other one way or another. Why not start tearing up the tension now? The guy's eyes scanned the area pausing at the girl who glanced at Jo a few minutes ago. Jace just wanted to cut the useless tension in the air.

Without hesitation, he leaned into the blonde's line of sight noticing the earphones she had in. His hand later gestured to her earbuds before he waited for the student to pause the song or remove them. "Hi, I have an important question," Jason slightly tilted his head toward her to emphasize the point, " . . You know if they serve snacks on this flight?"

Robin Belmonte Jr.

Robin nervously watched Tris scan his entire being. Oh no, what if it isn't her? He awkwardly swayed side-to-side a bit, waiting for any word to come out from her mouth. One of Robin's quirks involved dancing during awkward situations. Just imagine how odd it would have been if the Tris he knew wasn't the Tris in front of him!

Thankfully, his childhood friend stuttered his name recognizing who he was. In fact, she even asked him a question. The teen's shy smile broke into a full on grin once the sound of her familiar voice rang in his ears. Robby couldn't believe that he got to see Tris and even go on a trip with her! "Contributing to humanitarian aid," Robin replied before getting up and walking over to her so he wasn't screaming across the cabin.

Before the young man could reach her, a correctional officer quickly raised their hand stopping him a foot away from Tris. The hand lightly sounded against Robin's chest landing a bit harder than the officer had intended. "Okay, did you just touch my chest?" Robin's gaze shifted to the man almost offended as if the action was just as forbidden if done on the opposite gender. His gaze squinted at the officer, "My parents own the air you breathe." After a few moments of silence, the teen nodded his head to the right signalling for the officer to move away . . which he surprisingly did. Robin meant it all as a joke, but it turned out to work in their favor.

"Woah! Did you see that?" He whispered in excitement as he squatted next to Tris's seat. He had to shift his stance a bit though when he noticed the school's VP glide past him. "Sup Lydia," His eyes followed her for a bit before noticing the Dead Pool gear, "Yo, dope jacket!" Robby nodded with a smile prior to refocusing his eyes onto Tris's. A metallic glint instantly caught his attention though causing him to glance at the handcuffs around her wrists. It almost seemed like she tried hiding them out of shame.

"So . . . how are you?" He asked as his eyes made contact with her's once again. Robin knew she went to prison, but didn't quite know what for. Those types of questions would be saved for another day if she chose to tell him. "I mean, how are you really?" The innocent teen outstretched his arm, blocking Tris's possible line of sight to the cuffs she tried hiding. It was no secret that he missed her and wanted to focus on her person rather than the situation around them.

There were few things that KC could bring himself to hate intensely, very few. Yet as he cracked his eyes open bright and early to board a flight he didn't even want to take, he believes he found another one. Mornings sucked in general, especially after coming down from a high, but this one just seemed to suck more than usual. He hated everything thing about it as he was even guarded more than usual as their little ragtag group of criminals were escorted to the airport. Before they got the chance to board the plane though, he asked one of the corrections officers to take him to the bathroom. He was on good terms with the officers for the most part, even if he had ulterior motives on his side of the camaraderie. Once he was in the bathroom, blessedly unchained for a few moments, he took the time to do a bit of his oxy. He couldn't light up with the officer smelling it on him so he stuck with that.

After he was done he flushed and washed his hands. The officer instantly put his cuffs back on and hurriedly pulled him along. It appeared they were running a bit late. Getting on board was a hassle but he didn't kick up a fuss. Before he knew it they were on the plane and he was being pushed into a seat. “Stay put and don't cause any trouble.” Still behaving, he nodded and settled into his seat. He didn't really want to move anyway. That would give the students more of a chance to recognize him. What a world it was for him to end up going on a trip with students from his old school.

Tris simply couldn't believe her eyes. As the boy moves to sit closer to her, she shakes her head in disbelief. It really is him. It's really Robin.

His familiar voice soothes her ears as he asks her how she's doing. How is she? No one ever asks her that. Of course he would though, that's just the kind of guy he is. "I, um," Tris stutters, watching as he moves his hand to block the others' view of her cuffs. She continues on with a short, breathy laugh. "If I'm being honest, I've been better. Prison kind of has that effect on someone." Tris drops her gaze from Robin once again, shifting around in the rather uncomfortable plane seat. She sighs, and a few strands of her dark hair falls around her face as she lowers her head into her hands.

"This isn't how I wanted this whole thing to go. Seeing you again, I mean." Tris speaks, attempting to hide the shaking of her voice. "I'm sorry I never called or wrote. I just couldn't bring myself to face you. I let you down by screwing up and getting myself locked up." She continues, lowering her voice in hopes that none of her friends from the prison would hear her speak like this. Tris isn't exactly known among the group for being sentimental or soft. To them, those words simply aren't in her vocabulary.

"I tried to write, I-I really did, but I knew if we kept talking that I would just drag you down. I guess I was right. I mean, look at you! You're a very different person now then you were three years ago and it seems that you've done well for yourself." Tris explains, gathering the courage to look at Robin again. She pauses for a moment, her fingers tracing her cheek in search for tears. There are none. Tris spent so much time in the past few years crying over her less than ideal situation, it seems as if she has lost the ability. "What have you been up to these past few years? Surely you haven't let those assholes who were bullying you get at you anymore."

Jude gets out of his seat, stretching his long limbs one last time before the plane takes off. After all, this was going to be one really long flight. As he stands, he forgets his height and the overhead compartments above him.

SMACK.

"OW!" Jude exclaims, stumbling backwards into the aisle. He reaches a hand up and rubs the sore spot on the crown of his head, now forming a small bump underneath his scalp. A blush of pure embarrassment crawls across his nose to the tips of his ears. For anyone who knows him, this type of scene is so incredibly common. Poor Jude being his clumsy self. His parents always joke that he should be wrapped in bubble wrap and put inside a hamster ball for safekeeping. One of his peers, someone he had never met, audibly laughs. "Yeah, yeah, get your laughs out now. Ha ha, Jude is a klutz." He grumbles, his accent growing thick. He shoots a glare at the student though his angry face looks as menacing as a kitten.

As Jude is standing and rubbing the sore spot on his head, he spots Lydia and waves. "Glad to see you've made it, Lydia. I was worried you wouldn't make it and leave us without our trusty leaders." Jude says sweetly, smiling as he leans against the seat in front of him.

Jude heads back to his seat just as the pilot's voice rings out through the speakers, announcing the plane's takeoff. A flight attendant begins the routine that Jude had heard so many times before. How to properly fasten the seat-belts, the services planes offer, what to do during turbulence, emergency exits and safety protocol in case the plane crashes. Jude chuckles at that one. In all of his flights he's taken, nothing ever went wrong. This time would be no different. He clips his seat belt shut and pulls out a book for when they're in the air.

Within the next few minutes, the plane is taxiing down the runway and is soon in the air. Next stop, Somalia!

Lydia turned in her seat just enough to see Robin when she heard him yell out to her. She smiled at him and gave him a half wave, “Thanks! It means a lot.” She turned back to the front and watched as the last few people made their way onto the plane, all carrying bags that seemed almost too large for carry-ons. There was one person that caught her eye though, a dark-haired teen with a corrections officer following closely behind him, his hands cuffed in front of him, it was obvious he was trying not to gather any attention to himself. Lydia felt herself staring at him as he moved through the aisles with ease before choosing a seat for both himself and his escort. She shook her head and cleared her thoughts. There was no way she knew him, anyway.

Her attention was brought back to another group of people behind her, namely to Jude, who was addressing her tardiness. She smiled back at him, a toothy grin that she tended to use when she was excited, “No trip would be complete without me! I’m the one that brings the party!” she joked, waving her fingers at him in a friendly manner, ignoring the concerned and just slightly alarmed faces of the teachers that were around her. “As if I would miss this anyhow.” She turned back around after throwing him another smile, placing her feet up against the chair in front of her enough to get comfortable without intruding on someone else’s space. Once she heard the directions of the air attendant that was gesturing towards the lit seatbelt sign, and did as she said, Lydia shut her phone off and prepared herself for takeoff. It was always the worst part.

Madison sat there watching as the plane filled up, it looked like everyone was there which was good cause that meant they could take off and she could take a nap and just relax. She hated taking off but once they were in the sky, she felt fine but the waiting and that feeling of your ears popping when a plane takes off is what she dreaded.
She felt some relief when she heard the flight attendant come onto the coms system “Hello passengers, the pilot is ready to get going so we ask that everyone please put any bags or purses on the group underneath your seat, if you have pulled the tray infront of you down we ask that you put it back where it was and please put your seatbelts on, we will be coming down the aisle to make sure everyone has followed the proper instructions so that we can take off and have a safe flight.” Madison quickly fastened her seatbelt, took her earphones out putting them back in her backpack then putting her backpack underneath her seat just as the flight attendant had said.
Once the flight attendants went up and down aisle making sure everyone was sitting safely in their seats they took their own seats. Madison felt the plane moving slowly so she looked out the small window beside her and smiled, as tired as she was she was also excited for this trip, she had a feeling it wasn’t gonna be great, atleast that’s what she hoped. When they were safely in the air and were able to take their seatbelts off and move around, Madison un fastened her seatbelt and got up stretching her legs and arms then walking toward the airplane washroom.
As she walked towards the washroom there was a part of her that felt slightly uncomfortable with the prisoners there but she shrugged it off, they were people just like her and she was in no place to judge so she just kept walking and when she got there, she waited in silence until it was her turn.

Jolena watched the interaction between Tris and Robin for a brief moment, tilting her head. Now it was obvious they knew each other at some point in the past, most likely as kids. Joey was curious what had happened between the two. Robin seemed like a fairly straight-laced guy, definitely not the type who would hang out with any of the criminals, let alone Tris. Then again, Jo didn't really know anything about Robin either, and it wasn't her place to judge. She felt Jason move next to her, and glanced over at him. He seemed a bit tired, and she couldn't deny that she was as well. Whoever thought that flying out so early in the morning clearly had a rather sick sense of humor. Then again, with tax dollars most likely paying for the criminals' trip, the organizers of the whole thing probably chose the cheapest flight they could. No need to overspend on the outcasts and the rejects of society.

At the sound of Jason's voice, Joey met his gaze. She couldn't help but grin. Ever since they had met, they had this particular game. Jason would come up with an idea or challenge of something Jolena could try to draw. Sometimes, it was weapon designs, other times it was people, and every now again, it would be landscapes like then. Whether Jason knew it or not, the game helped ground Jolena, especially in times of anxiety. And that was definitely a time of anxiety for her. Having never flwon in her life, Joey wasn't to ecstatic that her first international flight would be all the way to Somalia. But she would do anything to get out of that forsaken jail cell.

"Sounds good, I'll try my best," Joey responded with a soft smile. She had only seen pictures of where they were going in the library books at the detention center. So hopefully her memory would serve her in this situation. Reaching down to the small backpack at her feet, Jolena slid a box of pastels from one of the pockets. They had been given to her by one of the guards in the library, having seen her art. She was the nicest guard Jo had met at the detention center, almost maternal in nature. Joey even created a portrait of her using the pastels as a thank you. The guard eventually resigned to take a position elsewhere, leaving the kids with only cruel guards left.

A few minutes into the beginning of her pastel drawing, the pilot began to speak and the plane move. Jolena's anxiety spiked, and she nearly crushed the pastel in her palm by squeezing it so tightly. She didn't like the way the plane moved, shifted with the breeze, or hit bumps. She knew flying was going to be bad, but this was most definitely worse than she imagined. She hated not being in control of herself, let alone trusting her life to the hands of a pilot she had never seen or met. "Shit," she cursed under her breath.

Liam Meyer

Mood: Tired | Interactions: | Mentions:

Eyes half-lidded, Liam swore he was about to doze off. Not even the uncomfortable handcuffs could prevent the wave of sleep washing over him. After all, he had been woken up at the crack of dawn to be dragged off and shoved on a plane to, as one of the guards had worded it, 'prove he was a good person'. The ride to the airport was awkward enough; he could only imagine how terrible this flight would be. Yet, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if he did actually manage to drift off.

His gaze trailed over to the students on the left side of the plane. Although he was slightly anxious being surrounded by so many people, he couldn't take his eyes off them. They all looked delighted at the prospect of traveling. If he wasn't currently chained up, Liam might be just as thrilled. He'd never really traveled much, preferring to stick to familiar streets. The whole concept of flying was relatively foreign to him; he'd been on planes before when he was younger but didn't recall much. Still, he had to admit he was a little excited about the trip.

If Liam did well and was able to cooperate with these preppy school kids, then maybe--just maybe--his sentence would be shortened, if not fully terminated. Leaning back in his chair, he sighed loosely at the thought of being free again. It was so suffocating, being hauled around like this. Infuriating, too. That was why he wanted to sincerely try his best. He just wanted things to go back to the way they were, even if it meant he'd wind up getting caught again in the future. That was a risk he was willing to take.

It wasn't too long before blackness covered Liam's vision. He could hear the shuffling of luggage and bags, which was annoying, but he knew it couldn't be helped. Eventually, the sound drowned out as if his ears were filling with water. Enjoying the echoy silence, he let his mind--which was often too active--settle down.

That is, until the shaking started. It was just normal turbulence, his brain argued, but he couldn't help but let his lids flutter open to inspect his surroundings. It was official: flying sucked. He would've enjoyed it more if he was the one in the pilot's seat. It couldn't be too hard to figure out the controls, and he'd definitely feel better knowing he was the one in control. Sadly, that wasn't a possibility, and he was left with his hands balled into fists, tensing at every shake of the cabin.
