Name.

Try to take the origins of your character into account with the name you pick. What race is he/she? And where was he/she born? A character born in the south will have a more Arabic sounding name, easterners a Slavic sounding one, westerners will have (medieval) European sounding names and Northerners will have Scandinavian sounding names.

Age.

This is always a tough one. I recommend you look to the other character sheets (you can find all approved sheets in the OOC thread) to make a good decision. What's the big deal? Well, having a group of mere teens isn't going to be much fun, nor is having a group of tired old man and women. Whilst I will bring a fair share of NPC's of differing ages to the table, it really helps group dynamics to have some variation in age. Try not to fall into the trap of matching up your character's age to a potential love interest!

Gender.

Stick to male or female. Whilst I have no problem whatsoever with transsexuals or genderless people IRL, it just doesn't fit the context of the game.

Race.

There are three overarching races.

  • Humans.
  • Aleseans.

Humans.

Humans come in many different forms and shapes. The people that live in the North are usually tough and rugged. They are masters of the mountain, miners, blacksmiths and great builders. The people in the West are typically farmers and sailors. The people in the South often live in tribes, just like people from the east, but the southerners are more tanned and have a richer culture than the easteners.

Out of the three main species, humans are the most versatile, but excel at little.

Aleseans.

Aleseans are even more varied than humans. Fauns, Wild Elves and even Centaurs are all considered to be Aleseans. See the Origin Story to read why Aleseans are more sensitive to magic than Humans.

Wild Elves are much like humans, altough they have a much better understanding of their surroundings and nature. Contrary to the long-extinct Great Elves, Wild Elves don't grow taller than humans. The life in the heartwood, well away from the Emperor, and disobey his rule completely.

As far Fauns, Centaurs and other Aleseans, you can just leave them in their generic 'vanilla' flavor or spice them up with some creativity. The only important things is that an Alesian species must be:

1. Intelligent

2. Close to nature

3. Not much larger or smaller than humans.

Angi

The Angi are all beast-like creatures. Think dragons, phoenixes, etc. They possess the most magic of all three races.

Currently, they are not playable as main characters, but if you wish to use an Angi as a side-character (either for your own character development, or for that of the group as a whole), please consult me over PM.

Appearance.

A description or picture will do. If you're going for a picture, please try and find Digital Art, to add some consistency to the look. If possible, refrain from posting Anime/Manga. Short-skirted Japanse girls with big-eyes don't fit the context of the game. You're looking for something real and gritty, a la Game of Thrones (the HBO Series).

History/Bio.

A brief description of how your character ended up in the position he or she is currently in. We don't need to know everything! In fact, it's often more fun to come up with some history on the fly, and (more importantly) if your character's entire history is written out, it will be difficult for me to make your character the Chosen One/The Heir.

Important: this world has an obligatory educational system. Whilst it is possible that your character escaped that system, it's somewhat unlikely particularly if they live(d) in a city and/or are young. In that case, you have to take the trade of your character into account. But, if your character is older than twenty, or grew up well away from the main cities, then you don't need to take the trade of your character into account and can leave that field empty.

Characteristics.

Write down a few positive and a few negative attributes of your character. Think: moody, patient, strong-willed, arrogant, proud, self-centered, selfless, etc...

Don't forget the negative attributes! They add depth to your character because it will allow him or her to grow as he/she progresses through the story.

Trade.

This factor needs a bit of an explanation, so hang on tight. Mordin (The Emperor) enforced state-provided education for all of his citizens. From age twelve, all boys and girls were taken in by The Union. A religion-centered order of monks, nuns, priests, and all sorts of helpers. Upon entering, the child was given a choice as to which trade he wanted to learn. There are four official trades:

  • The Union – become a priest or priestess for the Temple and live a life of servitude to your Emperor. [Average time spend in education: six years]

  • The Roundshields – become a guardian of Anthium and maintain law and order as a soldier of the Emperor's armed forces. [Average time spend in education: five years]
  • The Merchant Guild – become a trader of goods to boost the economy of our land! [Average time spend in education: two to five years]
  • The Upkeep – become a farmer, blacksmith, lumberer or miller. All jobs that keep our people fed, clothed, warm, and armed fall under the command of this guild. [Average time spend in education: two to four years]

The child in question was then educated in that guild and could later specialize into a certain profession. When his or her education ends depends entirely on what profession was chosen. This is important because, depending on the age of your character, he or she might still be in the educational system.
