Elementalists Lore

========================================================
It had been nearly four months since Ivan arrived in Vago, and just a couple weeks more since the water mark appeared on his arm. The monks accepted him, of course, but it was clear his presence... disturbed them. Not that Ivan faulted them for it. The appearance of acolytes in the past always preceded disaster. Still, they did their best to make him feel at home. He had his own room, plenty of food and drink, space to practice, and was rarely bothered. He was even allowed to join in their meditation. The strangest part to him was that most of the monks of Vago weren't even elementalists. They were just people who learned sensitivity to the flow of manna and dedicated their lives to the Elemental Lords.

Ivan wasn't the only acolyte in Vago, but he was one of the first to arrive. He'd gotten to know some of them fairly well, but was still on more of a formal level with them. Then again, despite his rather relaxed attitude, almost all of his interactions with people were more formal. Except for that old lady who gave him a pie as payment once. He liked her.

Vago was a surprisingly large place for not having a currency system. They worked for their spoils and shared among everyone. There was a beauty to its simplicity, but Ivan knew it would never work anywhere else. The monks here all trusted one another, and that just wasn't a common trait among the kingdoms.

Ivan was currently meditating, focusing his manna pool, but not with the monks. He'd been given a fairly large pool to do with as he pleased. Just like everything else here, it was surrounded by white stone structures with plant-life growing everywhere. Ivan sat cross legged on the center of the pool, bobbing ever so slightly on the water, eyes closed. He actually enjoyed his meditation periods. They gave him a chance to reflect and grow, and the weather didn't hurt. As per usual when meditating he only wore his pants, no shirt or shoes. His former master forced him to do so at the edge of a cliff up in the mountains. His first several times he nearly lost to hypothermia, but with practice he learned to create his own little climate bubble with the surrounding moisture. Not that he needed it now. The sun beat down on this warm summer day. His only concern was burning, but it was a small worry shoved to the back of his mind for now.

Everyone should already be in, or just arriving at, Vago. Their marks should be the same mark as found under the corresponding element in the Lore tab. It should also appear on their forearm (it matters not right or left). The people already in Vago should at the very least know each other's names. More information about the plot shall be revealed in game soon enough, but if you have any major concerns or have an undying curiosity on the matter you can contact me via the OOC or send a private message. The pictures below roughly depict Vago and they have also been added to the Lore page.

Jyn Embers - Fire

Jyn had been in Vago, what, a week? She had fallen in love. The winding streets that led around the buildings to places unknown; the way her boots sounded on the stones; the soft hum of the people in the city faded and grew as she wove between buildings. Some streets so narrow she had to walk side ways, and large plazas bustling with the friendly monks. Jyn seemed generally unaffected by their attitude towards her and the other acolytes. She understood, they were a warning. But for now, she was in too much awe to care, or prepare. As long as the monks were patient enough to tell her their stories, they would get along just fine.

Mostly, they shuffled Jyn off to the library, which bothered her none. Back home in Jerakath, and again at university in Kedaeth, Jyn had spent many hours in libraries pouring over books. The young acolyte was currently filling up on the history of prophecies and the appearance of the mark. When her mark had appeared a little over six months ago, Jyn had sat down and written everything. What she did that day, what she ate, who she'd spoken to. Every feeling and thought she could muster. It wasn't much. It had been a very normal, boring day until she'd discovered it. She hadn't actually noticed until she'd gone to take a shower after a most invigorating fire display. After her discovery, she hid the mark wearing long sleeves or a "lucky" bandana around her arm. Today, the mark was inadvertently hidden by the sleeve of her dress. Why such secrecy? She knew the second anyone found out she'd be sent to Vago. Usually, she'd be thrilled. But with graduation so close, she couldn't risk the last six months of her education. So she'd stayed and finished her time at university, bid goodbye to her friends and went home to break the news.

Her father was thrilled, as she expected, so sure his daughter was going to save the world. Her mother on the other hand, forbid that she partake in anything dangerous. After a arguments, and a few small house fires, it was decided. Jyn would go to Vago to continue her education, but she was no under any circumstances to leave the city. Jyn agreed to the terms with her fingers crossed. She was a grown adult and would very well do whatever she pleased. It simply suited her to visit the city of knowledge.

Now Jyn was weaving her way through the city, her arms wrapped around a handful of books and scrolls she was borrowing from the library. The monks weren't too keen on her removing the materials, but they were less thrilled about the idea of a fire elemental in a room full of candles and irreplaceable flammable history. Besides, Jyn talked a lot when she read. She often got so excited about the ideas in the book, she'd stop reading mid paragraph and repeat the whole thing out loud. So, she was going to find her fellow acolytes. Because obviously, to Jyn's mind, they wanted to hear these ideas too.

The first acolyte she found by knowing where he lived but pretending she'd just stumbled into him, was Ivan, looking ever so peaceful on the water. "Ivan," Jyn greeted, inviting herself to the poolside. She shrugged off her cape and sat cross legged, well enough distance from the actual water. Water could be just as deadly to papers as fire, sometimes. "How goes your day?"

Vago - Meadow

"So this is the famous Vago!"

Vale took out a pale red berry and popped it into the air. With the aid of her control, the berry landed right on her tongue, after performing a somersault and something she didn't know the name. She savoured the taste of the berry, licking the ripened juice from her fingers. It was a fruit gifted by her mother back in Jerankath. She had just visited them after 19 years. The look on their face couldn't be better. Her appearance had changed a lot, especially her now white hair after spending years on the highest peak of Asiven mountain.

The meeting didn't last longer than half an hour as she was eager to start her journey to Vago. She held no ill intent toward her parents for sending her away, but she didn't have an abundance of love either. Solitary suited her. Silence was her trusted companion. Freedom was hers, unlike the confined life she felt in Jerankath.

She gently tilted her glider downward in preparation to land. She found a suitably large meadow and steered the air to allow her to stop there. Unlike her usual small glider with high mobility, the glider she used had an extension for burden at the back, allowing her to carry some of her supplies with her in a steel chest. Once her feet were properly on the ground, she folded her glider and took off the extension wings. With a flick of her wrist, an air current lifted the chest from a standstill and flowed into her open arms. The chest was heavy, but with a well-adjusted current, she could lift it without any problem.

As she lifted the chest, the sleeve of her right arm was pulled, revealing a dark mark near her elbow. The acolyte mark. The sole reason she would bring the heavy chest from her lair in Asiven. There was a lot of story around the mark, and not all of them was pretty.

"Now, where should I go first?"

Somewhere that didn't need money, she hoped. She didn't have a lot.

Xander Irilis
Arrival //

The clicks and taps of leather boots to the streets went nearly silent, similar to a hummed tune escaping Xander's lips. Curious juniper orbs admired the city growing around him as he entered, his trek to Vago coming to its end. An occasional smile offered to those who he passed by, the geomancer made it a point to keep it clear just what he was. Purple sleeves rolled up, the gauze which had commonly covered and hid the mark was instead lowered and loosened to allow sight of his status as an Acolyte.

Once streets had been passed and locations noted for later visiting purposes, Xander would find himself at his location; the lovely land that was Vago. Upon arrival, he'd linger, loitering about in search of where to start. Not exactly expecting a welcoming party, beyond being sent to the land he had not a clue of where to begin. "..Hello?" His first word, it came tired and scratchy, fortunately clearing up a voice that had not talked since the night before.

While he waited, the librarian busied himself. To start, getting to work on a means of protection. After all, he'd learned from more than enough gutter rats on his way to this city that pockets were far too loose for tiny hands. Shards of mirrored glass lifted from the interior of his coat, dancing lightly around corners of vision to offer a means of sighting that which was beyond peripheral vision. With defense established, Xander's gaze fell to the ground, and soon was the stone before him imprinted with shallow scratches and scrawls at his command. At first appearing like nothing but scribbles, the finished piece resembled a crude map, vague in its details. "Kedaeth was to the back, wagon took... Some nights," he mumbled, pondering his trip in hushed tones. "Four spent on the street, three by the inn..."

Eve took a deep breath, and looked at the beautiful sight laid before her. "So... this is Vago?" she whispered to herself, her crimson eyes wide. The teenager smiled and quietly walked in, her milky white hair practically floating behind her. Her red and black dress bounces as she walks. She then caught the sight of a few poppies and a bunch of other different flowers. "Woah..." she muttered, looking at them as she walked past.

Eve wondered where she would stay in this big town. She wondered if her parents were here as well. If they are, she thought, maybe I could ask them a few questions....

She then started to skip. Her shoes clank on the pathway as she looks around, sightseeing. She wondered if there were any libraries and such here, since she loves to read books.

It was her only escape.

While she was skipping, she noticed a huge pool and a male and a female near it. Eve shuddered. Water... The male didn't even have a shirt or any shoes, which caused Eve to flush her cheeks a deep red. She immediately looked away.

Do all boys not have a shirt here, or did this man just lose his shirt?

She shook her head and started to skip once again, trying her best to ignore the two. Maybe they need some... eh.. privacy....

Well, it not all sunshine and rainbows, but its quante.

Arvon sat in he center of the open field by Vago, with his lantern and pack near, writing. Whilst almost all the other elementalists went to the libraries to get books and or scrolls, he had the knowledge he need right here, in his compendium. It had everything and anything he ever learned since the age of 7, and that was quite a bit. But he made sure to write sparingly, and still had about half the pages left in the thick book.

He had been in Vago for at least a week or two, and still had not met any of the other acolytes. Though hearing through conversations gave him a pretty good read of their personalities. But the one thing that he knew was different from the rest of him? How he showed his mark. Some of the others would most likely hide it completely, and some would try to emphasize it as much as possible. He simply let it remain half-shown half-not under his sleeve.

He pushed up his glasses, and glanced up to see a few others by the pond that looked very not-monk, so he decided this time was as good as any to meet them.

Arvon walked over to the girl in red who was the furthest from the pond, and said,

"Grey weather today, isn't it."

Ivan was pulled back to reality by a familiar voice. He opened his eyes and saw… what was her name again? He was sure it started with a J. Anyway, he saw new girl sitting back on dry land. “Good afternoon,” he called, returning the greeting.

Ivan stood up, ice forming beneath his feet for extra support. He guided the ice gently, yet quickly, to shore and hopped off. He wandered over to the nearby table and snagged his shirt. “I can’t say I have anything to complain about. I see you’re doing some extra reading. What’re they on, may I ask?”

He noticed a couple others nearby, but didn’t recognize them. They were clearly not monks. Wait, he recognized the male. Ivan had seen him around and was a recognized acolyte, but had never formay met him. His assumption was the girl next to him was an acolyte as well.

"Grey weather today, isn't it?"

Eve blinked and looked ahead, noticed a boy with black hair and blue eyes who's wearing glasses talking to her. She nodded, shyly. "Yes, it is." She quietly hid her innocent face underneath her red hat, or well, at least tried to, but her head's too big. She blushed, embarrassed. She's always shy around boys, or well, anyone for that matter.

"Um..." she bit her lip. "How are you, sir?" She internally slapped her face. How are you? Is that the best you could do, Eve?

She was never really part of small talk. Rather, she was the subject of small talk.

In contrast to what she imagined before, Vago was similar in some way to Valik. Preservation of nature and advancement of architecture walked hand in hand, creating a rare sight of people in harmony with wilderness. Vale gawked openly at anything that captivates her interest, uncaring of what others might think of her. This was her experience! Her first impression of a location she never saw before! She wouldn't let social norms stop her from seeing all there was to see.

Like animals, people were all unique. Where they grew will reflect on how they behave at the present. Most people she saw on the street had a scholarly nature. Understanding, curious, and inexperienced in physical hardship. No, she was looking for a stranger in town. Someone who would be willing to explore the unknown of Vago without a feeling of familiarity. For that reason Vale kept walking around town with her folded glider in her left hand and an iron chest under her right armpit, looking for stranger that suited her needs.

That was when she found him.

A scruffy looking man with patchy beard and worn-out coat. He was sparkling to her. Vale winced her eyes and suddenly understood. He was not sparkling, but he had mirrors floating around, giving an illusion of glittering light around him. He was different from all the erudite, humble monk! With a renewed smile, she approached him from behind.

"Excuse me! Man with mirrors!"

She used her left sleeve to moved some of her silvery hair that cover her purple eyes. The folded glider dangerously blocked the road as she did so.

"Will stranger be so kind and accompany this stranger in Vago? Getting lost together is better than alone, right?"

She threw a grin at him and stole a glance at the mirrors. Was he an elementalist? She was curious of his technique!

Jyn Embers - Fire

Jyn looked up as Ivan came closer. "These books are about us." That was the short answer. "You know, there are thirty four documented accounts of acolytes and their missions, from monks right here in Vago, over fifteen second hand accounts that claim acolytes. Of course there are hundreds of claims that are impossible to validate. It's nearly impossible to separate myth from truth. But all the them agree that the larger the number of acolytes chosen," Jyn glanced up to see the other two acoyltes arrive. "The worse the following disaster is. I wonder how many of us there are this time." That's what made record keeping so hard. There were a handful of them in Vago already, where there more on the way? Were there any out there who refused, or were unable, to come?

Jyn pushed her note book off her lap and stood up. It seemed every time she got comfortable, she had to get up again. She didn't mind. Jyn brushed at her dress, tilted her head towards the quietly chattering pair. "Have you met them?' She asked Ivan. "Let's say hello." She walked towards the duo, giving Arvon a nod. They'd met once before. "Arvon." She greeted. "May I interrupt?" Turning to Eve, she set her fist in the palm of her hand and offered a small bow. "Jennifer Embers." She introduced. "Please call me Jyn. Fire elemental, I presume?" Jyns eyes sparkled as she looked at the young girl. "Are you from Jarakath?"

"Excuse me! Man with mirrors!"

To the sound of another voice, louder than the quieter conversations he'd noted around the area, Xander blinked with the faintest of surprise. Pulling his eyes away from the map, it began to sink its way back into the grounds that had birthed it. Mirror shards recollected, clicking and reorganizing against one another as they felt back towards the interior of his coat.

"Ah..?"

"Will stranger be so kind and accompany this stranger in Vago? Getting lost together is better than alone, right?"

Instead, his gaze was caught by the glider, a brow rising with evident interest. Hands rising to settle more comfortably in the pockets of his coat. Xander's boots shifted to face the woman, which soon followed a fairly formal dip of a bow, one which caused the slight bounce of his hair.

"Of course, of course. Xander, a pleasure to meet ya. Biggest rule, 'course, strangers ain't strangers once names are tossed up. Do you ah, know where we're..?"

He raised his arm, the loose sleeve and gauze swaying its way back down to reveal his Acolyte mark, hoping for the sign to be enough of an explanation. However, it was soon to be swung right back into place by his side. It was one thing to offer it for show, or even have the mark out in the open for the eyes if the public, but the thought of directing attention to it himself simply struck him as rude.

"Earth, so I've been told. Guessing you're not from 'ere too, then?"

Arvons face stated stoic though taking in the girls embarrassed face. "How am I? Very good, actually. Today's been a pleasant day. And," he motioned with his eyes over to her arm, "Would you happen to be a fellow Acolyte?"

Arvon took awareness of Jyn, and gave a nod in return, and decided he may as well go meditate a bit. He walked down to the edge of the pond by Ivan, opened his surprisingly light lantern of water and began practicing with it.

Did her eyes deceive herself? She could believe that if she spent her life wasted in a dimly litted room filled with stacks of books, but life outside had told her to believe her senses, especially her sight and hearing. She had seen a distinct mark on the forearm of Xander when he raised his arm. A mark similar to a tattoo that signed him as an Acolyte, just like her!

"Ah, Earth Xander, I see a mark on your hand. Is it possible for an acolyte to be standing in front of humble me?" She said so playfully. She had heard that acolytes came in groups, but she didn't expect to meet someone so early in Vago. She let go of her chest and let it float in front of her while she pulled the sleeve of her right hand downward, revealing her mark.

"The name is Vale, a wanderer wind elementalist. Where should an acolyte head from the gate of Vago?"

Ivan GashnovIvan wanted to make a comment on the books to Jyn, but she was already off to talk to the others. He lingered back a moment and looked at some of the books more closely. He recognized some of them from reading them earlier, but not all. Probably because he stopped looking into the subject. Sure it was interesting, reading about the past deeds of his predecessors, but he gained very little insight to his current situation. He learned that acolytes came in complete sets, so there was always four, eight, or (in a couple extreme cases) 12. Unfortunately, they didn't help him determine what kind of threat they were facing, nor guide him to the next step. They all started in Vago, but diverged from there. Ivan was more into reading what he considered to be practical. He'd recently taken a look at several ancient scripts to teach him new hydromancy techniques and practiced frequently. Most were fairly simple to master.

Before Ivan followed Jyn, the acolyte he recognized but did not know the name of approached him. Or more accurately, approached a spot near him. Still, he took this as an opportunity to introduce himself. "Hello. I've seen you around, but we haven't officially met yet. Name's Ivan. Pleasure to meet you." He held his hand out to hopefully shake hands. His sleeve slid up a bit, revealing more of his acolyte mark. He made no attempt to hide or display it. After having it for so long, and especially after spending so much time around the monks of Vago, he just accepted it as normal. And while Ivan acted like everything was normal, his mind was racing. So this means there are at least two acolytes per element.

Vago Monk"Where would you like to head?" a random monk asked, approaching the pair of acolytes at the gates of Vago. "We have food, rest, places for meditation and study, and more. We should have rooms prepared for each of you, should you wish to head there. If you wish to meet some of the other acolytes that have already arrived, I'm sure they won't be hard to find. Oh! Where are my manners? My name is Kai, a monk here at Vago." Kai bowed his head in respect. "It is our sacred duty to help acolytes in any way we can. Please, feel free to ask any of us anything and we will try to accommodate you. Unfortunately I must ask something of you first. I sense the power of an acolyte in each of you, but may I see your arms first? Just to confirm you have the marks."

At the sight of another Acolyte mark, Xander took clear interest in its form, his time looking at it spent on searching through memory and mental notes to pair mark with element; in this case he was fairly certain that the mark was reminisce of a wind-elemental Acolyte, confirmed by Vale herself soon after. With formalities finished, the man relaxed slightly, his weight brought to rest primarily on one hip. "Aya, least I'm fairly certain this wasn't inked on while I slept. Glad to see another's around though, Miss Vale. Not sure if I'm expecting a dozen or half-dozen Acolytes to be ar..."

Xander quieted his rambles at the sight of an approaching monk. He'd give a bow similar to the one he had previously directed Vale's way, and once risen he'd lift his arm to show the mark pressed into his skin, the clear mark of an Acolyte of earth showing itself as sleeves and gauze shifted back down his arm. "Good day, Mister Kai. A true pleasure t'meet. Where perchance could I find a library? And our rooms? For later visitation, rather I'd find those who've arrived first."

Xander paused, tracing back on his thoughts. "Oh, and the ones that have arrived, how many are there?"

While questions were asked and locations requested, Xander worked up another quick map in the ground before him, waiting to mark any areas the monk may note.

When Earth Xander showed his mark to Monk Kai, she took the opportunity to observe his mark herself. The mark was similar to what she expected to be on an Earth Acolyte, but still, it piqued her interest. Xander asked all she wanted to know to Kai, so Vale used her time to instead showed her mark to Kai and to caught her floating chest back on her hold. Only after she deemed herself comfortable enough she broke into the conversation.

"A room to put belongings would be the priority for me, Monk Kai. A chest with valuables enough to make men drool all over it instead of my body is in my possession," she said to the monk not disrespectfully, but not solemnly. Indeed, she had collected many curiosities during her life in the wilderness, but it didn't mean what she believes to be valuable was so for others.
