Fantasy The Eldritch characters

Story Scatted across the world in various locations rest items of terrific powers. They have existed for time immoral; these devices predate the existence of life itself. Their visage alone is terrifying and these devices will distort reality itself wherever you may find them. They may appear one day-- then they may disappear in another, no one knows the true nature of these devices. The only thing that can be ascertained is that their existence is not a work of fiction.

N- Nullify U-Unify L-Locate- Lock

NULL is an organization that was founded as a consequence of their existence. Their purpose is to locate these devices, nullify them, unify them and finally lock them from reach. Their base of operations is carved in to the mountains itself. Deep within lies an array of such devices, which are often referred to as the Eldrich Tools. Together, the tools would have the power to destroy the world many times over. Many countries across the world recognize the importance of keeping these devices contained, thus they receive a lot of funds from the generous donations given to them by the people.

NULL is revered or spited depending on where you are. A lot of government officials and higher class folk refer to them as villains that hoard power for their nefarious purposes. This is due to the fact that NULL has had to strip eldritch tools from many of their own hands to prevent a calamity such as the one that befell a fallen country called Haigen. Others have painted them as saviors-- the main religion of the world that dub themselves the Urekis refer to the collectors of these artifacts as angels. The Urekis value humbleness above all else and they do not believe such power should be left in the hands of mere men.

Not anyone can become a collector for NULL. Only those that excel are able to have their presence among their organization. That does not extend only to strength, but also to wit. They must be able to differentiate a truth from a lie and quickly discern things that are far from the mundane. Team work is valued and the lone wolf is chastised. In order for a collector to succeed they must be willing to rely on and trust others among them. NULL will come to you with the offer, never the other way around.

The Eldritch Tools and Subsequent Tragedy

Eldrich Tools are paired into tiers depending on their reach upon the world.

X- These artifacts can affect the entire global and anything beyond it.
S- These artifacts can affect an entire country, such as The Torch.

A- Anything that is not placed in to the two above categories.

The myth behind their existence is that they were used to forge reality itself and subsequently left behind by the gods. They have been ill-used by mankind the second that the tools were within grasp. The Torch is one of such devices. The flames of The Torch will burn infinitely: it will burn underneath the surface of the water, or in the midst of a raging tornado. Its appearance is not different from that of a typical torch. The only indicator that something is "off" is the fact that the flames always appear to be blowing towards the west even in placid winds.

The Torch was discovered by what used to be a fledgling. The boys name was Xerxai and he found the torch whilst hunting for his family. It was left at a shrine in an inconspicuous manner. Day was coming to an end and he had no other source of light-- he had taken the torch from its rest for himself. Due to the torch's gift, that boy Xerxai had soon become Emperor Xerxai. Anyone who gazes at the flame whilst it is wielded by a living creature will have their very soul ensnared by its flames. They will become void of willpower and the wielders words will become their law. He had taken the torch to many speeches across the region and soon-- an entire country was built for his own enjoyment.

The country of Haigen was practically founded overnight. When other leaders came to question its conception they had found themselves under the spell of Xerxai. Soon thereafter, many large contributions were given to Haigen-- this was believed to be the work of his own honeyed words rather than magic. Xerxai had enjoyed his rule over his country for some time before he had grown ill. The man was desperate to find a cure for his illness, he had gathered all of the citizens within his city to hear his plead. With his torch in hand he had demanded the men and women around the city craft a cure to rid him of his illness. The entire city was under his spell and they had lost all sense of self. The only thing they strived for was a cure to rend their sick kings illness. Yet, it had never came. When his heart stopped beating so did the hearts of all that he enthralled. As quickly as it was founded, Haigen had fallen. Many dead had laid flat on the streets and in their homes. Leaders of the world who were under the spell of Xerxai had passed as well and without warning. Historians had dubbed the event the Tragedy of Haigen. The power behind the torch was eventually discovered and it was subsequently hidden away from humanities reach by NULL.
Magic and Setting

The setting is fantasy, but for simplicity the only race allowed will be human. The setting is not too advanced-- the trebuchet would be something that is relatively new. Magic is something that is cast. Think the elder scrolls or DND. Here is an example of something that you may find on a profile since it is hard to explain.

Arcana- is the catalyst of miracles. It can be found in every living thing and it serves as a fuel to perform amazing feats. It can be used to manipulate the elements, craft illusions and enhance ones physical strength.
(You may use weapons/spells that are not listed so long as they fit the theme of the class.)

The Knight - The Knight favors a less subtle approach than the other classes. They wear heavy armor that lighter weapons will have a rough time churning through. They are slow, but incredibly sturdy. Their use of Arcana revolves altering their own bodies capabilities to turn the tides on their enemy. They can resist stagger, create barriers and bolster the physical strength of themselves and allies. When it comes to weaponry, they are the most diverse. They will typically brandish heavier weaponry, such as large swords, battle axes, war hammers or spears. But, it is not uncommon to see a knight wielding the typical blade and shield.

The Rogue - The rogue is quick and cunning, they are lithe on their feet and adept at shrouding themselves in plain sight. They are masters of the bow and arrow, with it they may take out unsuspecting enemies from beyond the veil. With Arcana they may draft illusions to get people to do precisely what they want and make their bodies unperceivable to the naked eye. When it comes to weaponry, they are most prominent with daggers and the bow and arrow. They may carry short swords, but never a heavy shield. Some of them carry bucklers to parry attacks from their opponents and strike back hard with a riposte.

The Mage - Unlike the other classes, The Mage is not skilled with any form of weaponry. Instead they are fully reliant on arcana. It is to be expected that they would be the best at utilizing its abilities. The mage may incorporate fire, ice, lightning, wind, water and the very earth itself in the spells they cast. In addition they may use the more primal form of darkness. With it, they may lay curses on their opponent to inhibit their combat abilities. This could include things like blinding them, exhausting them, or stunning them. The most vicious abilities mages have access to is to silence the abilities of others. This will keep them from using arcana or stop a spell in its tracks.

The Priest - The priest is similar to the mages, but instead they focus wholly on bolstering their allies rather than inhibiting their opponents. They utilize the force of light to mend the wounds of themselves and the wounds of others. In their main hand they will carry their preferred form a weaponry. That is typically either a mace or morning star. In their offhand, they will carry the religious scripture of their choice, typically the Book of the Ureki. The religious scripture is enchanted and serves as a sort of grimoire for the priest to cast their spells.

Not acceptable: Fire Manipulation- Character can create and manipulate fire in any way they like.

Acceptable: Fire Ball - After some effort the character can spawn a ball of fire in their hand that will explode shortly after it is thrown.

Not acceptable: Regeneration- This character can regenerate small amounts of damage automatically.

Acceptable- Hasted Recovery- After charging a ball of light in their palms for a few moments, they will release it to quicken the healing process for a few seconds.

The Religion of Ureki

The Urekis have a sole deity of worship by the name of Amon. Amon is believed to be the creator of everything you see around you, from the soil beneath your feet to the stars in the sky. He is not necessarily kind nor malicious. The Ureki simply know him as the all-powerful creator. They pray to him, hoping that he will continue to bless the earth with his vegetables and his cattle. There are shrines scattered across the barren land that are dedicated to sacrifice. The sacrifice is meant to be personal; you will see curious items at these shrines like toys or rings. These were things that had meant something very special to someone at one point of their lives.

The Urekis are by far the largest religion in the current world. They have a church in just about every city, sometimes more depending on the city's size. They value humbleness, respect and charity for those who share their beliefs; they are not cruel to those that do not, but they will ostracize them. Those who do not share their religion are not yet civil. They will reach out to those lost few in an attempt to enlighten them, which does not always yield the desired results. They are exceptionally kind to those within their circle, if they need a pillow to lay their head or food-- they will grant it. There are things that are obviously taboo in their religion, however. These things are what you may expect, murder, thieving, prostitution and fornication are all things that are heavily scrutinized.

The greatest taboo is associated with the objects that are called the eldritch tools. Their documentation is something that is somewhat modern and their existence isn't something that is globally acknowledged quite yet. The Urekis do have a theory regarding their existence, they believe these to be the tools left behind by Amon after the conception of Earth. They were not meant to be used by men and they never should be. The Urekis fear what would happen if Amon were to witness one of his tools being used by another. The Urekis give a great deal of support to NULL, via funding and offer their agents shelter at the numerous churches they have scattered about. NULL does not wish to disrupt this very beneficial alliance, so they refuse to use the eldritch tools for any purpose. If a collector is caught using a tool they will be terminated and subsequently sent to a Ureki Bishop for punishment.

For profiles I merely have a few requirements. Firstly, you must write what your character's class(see magic section) is, what spells they can use and their weapon of choice. I will also need an appearance, in the form of text, image, or both. Additionally the characters height and weight should be included. The final requirement is that the profile tallies up to be about 800 or more words cumulatively. The characters are collectors of null, if you want to be something else then contact me.

You can do the more typical biography/personality. You can define your character anyway you like, if you want you can make a short story defining an important point in their life. You are free to create anything you like when creating a character. If you need to create a city, country, NPC or eldritch tool, then go ahead and do so. When it is done, then post in this thread. I made a thread dedicated for WIP profiles if you want to post one of those. This thread is for completed profiles only.

Skyler Wess
"Kye"
f9QcIpb.jpg

BASICS

Age: 21
Appearence: Skyler has short, almost white gray hair, and golden-brown eyes. She's small in stature, and so pale that she needs to be wary of too much sun. She prefers longer pieces of clothing that hardly allows any exposed skin.
Height: 5'3
Weight: 118 lbs
Class: Mage

COMBAT

Photon Cloak
Best used on herself, Skyler is able to bend light in order to trick the eye. In this sense, she is able to move around without being seen. The Photon Cloak is also known as her "Invisibility Cloak." It does have a few setbacks and is far from perfect. The "cloak" cannot mask smell or sound, and it also produces a sort of faint rippling effect, similar to a heat haze one would see in the desert; but it is only noticeable if you look directly at her while she's moving.

Flash
No... It's not the sort of "flash" that you're thinking of.
Skyler is able to produce a burst of bright, blinding light so intense that it will make you see stars even if your eyes are closed. While it doesn't backfire on her, she does have to be careful about using it around comrades; as she risks blinding them as well.

Glow
Skyler is able to make any part of her body glow with a faint light. It's probably the first light-based spell that she learned, so it's the easiest for her to perform. For the most part, it doesn't consume much energy and doesn't take much concentration to keep up. However, it's more effective against a dark cave than it is against an enemy.

Sun Bomb
This spell is one of the more difficult for her to perform. It requires quite a bit of time to prepare, and a good amount of Arcana to make. The more damage that she wants it to do, the longer it takes and the more exhausted she will become after using it.
The Sun Bomb is basically a ball of condensed energy. The distance it can be thrown depends on how powerful it is; the less Arcana it consumes the farther it can be thrown. It explodes upon impact with any solid surface; the damage--again-- depends on how much Skyler is willing to put into it.

Illusions
Like with the Photon Cloak, Skyler manipulates one's visual perception with this ability. She can create false characters with this spell; whether it be monsters or clones. However, these illusions do not have any shadows and have a very faint haze effect to them that is only really noticeable when they stand still or move slowly. Also, they are not solid entities, so they cannot make physical contact with anything but each other.

Golden Whip
This spell is a little more solid than the others. It requires a little less energy than a weaker Sun Bomb, but is still one of her more exhausting abilities. Skyler can condense light to the point where it can become a physical thing; more specifically a whip-like cord. The length and strength depends on how much Arcana that she decides to put into it, and she must concentrate on maintaining it or else it will disappear instantly. With this whip she can bind opponents, and even disarm them of their weapons.
(Her favorite thing to do is trip people)

DOSSIER

Skyler spent most of her life traveling.

For the first thirteen years of her life, she traveled with her father; as her mother had died in childbirth. Her father was a merchant who sold various things from jewelry to cooking equipment to random nicknacks; and because of this, they didn't really have a house. Skyler was fine with it, she got to see many exciting places and got to meet some very interesting people. However, this kind of life also made her realize how cruel the world could be at a very young age. In her time traveling she had seen things like poverty take hold of entire towns and had come face-to-face with bandits more than once.

However, despite all of this her father taught her to stay optimistic. In fact, one of his favorite sayings was "for every storm there will come a rainbow," and he would quote it every time they came in contact with something horrific.

A majority of her personality was formed from her time with her father. Because of him, Skyler ended up being a fairly optimistic person on the outside. She also developed a fairly vivid imagination, as he would often make up stories whenever they were trapped somewhere do to weather. That and Skyler also obtained an uncanny ability to make bad jokes for every situation; the worse the situation is, the cheesier the joke.

When Skyler was thirteen, she was left with a mage that they did frequent business with. There wasn't any explanation behind it. He was just... Gone. Though the mage, Aine, helped her try to find him, they couldn't find anything. Not even rumors helped their search.

Aine was much more pessimistic than her father. She was suspicious of everyone and everything and was rarely tricked. She was headstrong and blunt with her speech, and rarely ever held her tongue. The woman didn't believe in happy endings or luck, and instead put her faith in hard work. She valued honesty above all else and would punish Skyler severely whenever she lied; even if it was a small fib. But, for the most part, she was caring and didn't form strong opinions without knowing the full story. Skyler ended up picking up some of her habits as well, though not nearly as extreme.

During her years with Aine, Skyler slowly learned how to properly utilize Arcana in order to cast spells. Her mentor was much more proficient in such a field and was able to cast more kinds of spells than Skyler could name. Aine insisted that they build up the girl's skills, starting with a base element that she would later branch off from. Admiring the concept of Light-based magic the most, Skyler, of course, chose to start there.

She managed to get pretty far with the Light magic, and even went as far as creating a few spells of her own. Skyler had reached the point of being able to advance to a new element. However, things didn't work out that way.

A group, who's name still remains unknown to the girl, had apparently been hunting her mentor for some time. Aine told Skyler to run before any solid form of explanation was given. And all the young mage really heard before escaping was that they wanted her mentor's powers; or something along those lines. Unfortunately, when Skyler tried to double back to fine the old woman, there were no tracks. She didn't know if her mentor was alive or dead, or whether she had escaped or agreed to go with the strangers.

That occurred when Skyler was 18. From that point on, she had been on her own.
