Name:
Age:
Birthday: (Optional)
Gender: (Go crazy, I don't judge)
Magic Affinity: (Common: Fire, water, earth, wind. Rare: Lightning, Shadow. Legendary: Transformation.)
Gate Size: (Eye ball - body sized, bigger the gate, more powerful your magic can be, doesn't effect forbidden magic.)
Forbidden Power: (Your character doesn't have to have one, if they do it'll be later in the story before they can use it. Can be literally anything.)
Personality:
Bio/Background:
Other: (?)
Appearance: (Description and/or image)

Name: Gabriel Fletcher

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Magic Affinity: Shadow

Forbidden Power: Dark Arrow: Creating a dark, shadowy arrow, Gabriel fires it with his bow. The arrow is incredibly deadly, but directly drains his life force. It's deadliness coincides with how much life force is put into it. Anyone killed by this projectile turns into a viscous, shadowy goo like substance, with no trace left of them.

Personality: Gabriel is a natural survivor. He often seems incredibly skittish, always scanning his surroundings, always on edge for anything that might be a threat. He has an extremely dark sense of humor, his extreme fear of death causing him to mask his insecurities with humor. Gabriel can often seem to drift off, stuck in his own little world, his mind stuck on... something. He hates sharing his emotions, even though he deeply cares for people.

Bio/Background: Gabriel was the son of a member of the Fang, his mother, and a Fletcher, his father. From a young age, Gabriel was to follow in his mother's footsteps, being prepared to join the Fang himself one day. After his father died, however, Gabriel was pushed even further, and his survival instincts were supercharged by his mother. During one of their training sessions, they ran into a pack of Cyntra, and Gabriel barely escaped as he watched his mother being torn apart by them. Left alone and with severe Survivor's Guilt, he continued his training as a Fang, eventually becoming an official member, and offering his guerrilla tactics and pragmatic way of fighting to defend against the Cyntra.

Appearance:

Name: Lothar Wolff

Age: 24

Birthday: March 15

Magic Affinity: Earth

Forbidden Power: Spark of Life - This forbidden power can impart life to a non-living or dead thing, but the size of the object reflects the amount of life energy needed to bring the object to life with immense objects likely requiring a massive sacrifice of lives.

Personality: Lothar is a diligent guy who focuses his attention to the task at hand. So much so that it would be hard to get more than a couple of words out of him when he's in the middle of making something. However, when he's not directly working on a project, Lothar is a pretty friendly guy who does his best to help out the community, and very curious about how things work, especially ancient artifacts from before the death of the Goddess.

Bio/Background: The Wolff family were foreigners who had found safety in Hopenex after the Goddess died. They were one of the lucky few who managed to somehow escape the clutches of the Cyntra, but more importantly, they carried with them some valuable artifacts that helped the village set up and prepare for the coming dark ages. In the centuries that passed, the Wolff family worked hard to try and maintain the artifacts, but it was a losing battle. Now, Lothar recently inherited the family heirlooms, which is a box of a bunch of broken pieces of artifacts... or at least that's what is claimed. With so much knowledge lost, the Wolff family is not sure what these things really are, but the story has been passed down generations and inspired every generation of Wolff to become avid historians and creators. It has been the dream of many Wolffs to learn the lost knowledge, rebuild artifacts and slowly bring mankind back to its great heights.

Lothar is no exception. He isn't much of a fighter, but he's a creative and persistent guy who can stand the heat of the forge for hours. Thus, if anyone can take a beating, it's Lothar. Lothar is a part of the Fang not for his speed or amazing fighting ability, but for his ability to take a beating, and being resourceful, quick on his feet and a history nerd. Need to cross a river? Give him a bit of time to make a makeshift raft. Someone broke a leg? Lothar can make a splint. Stuck in the middle of a forest swarming with Cyntra? Well... maybe Lothar can try and use his magic to make a underground cave to hide in until it's a little bit safer. Surrounded by Cyntra with nowhere to run? He'll do his best to strengthen his armor and buy time for either him or someone else to figure out a solution. If there's a cliff nearby, he might even try and cause a landslide to bury the Cyntra. Just be sure to run quickly, and don't worry about Lothar. He, hopefully, can dig himself out, he's a tough guy after all and a little bit of dirt won't hurt him.

⋆☽SHADE RAVENSCROFT☾⋆
—child of shadows—

•NAME•
Shade Ravenscroft

•AGE•
Seventeen

•BIRTHDATE•
October 30th

•GENDER•
Male

•AFFINITY•
Shadow

•GATE SIZE•
Full body

•FORBIDDEN POWER•
A form of necromancy, he is able to 'reanimate' dead creatures (humans, insects, fish, birds, mammals, Cyntra... does not work on plants or fungi) and use them as basically as puppets. These can be anything from the freshly dead to ancient bones, though it does not work on fully fossilized remains. He also cannot restore the dead to true life, only a shambling sort of zombie state where unless carefully controlled they will rampage and kill all living things in their path, creating a mass of undead monstrosities that Shade will have only slight influence over. Because they are already dead, said creatures are far more difficult to 'kill' as decapitating, stabbing or slashing will at most slow them down. Removing and destroying all limbs, trapping them or shattering their bones is usually the only completely effective way of stopping them. Theoretically, Shade could command an undead army of millions that would be truly invincible, but to do so would soon spell the end of life and all once-living things would soon join the hoard... Shade included.

•PERSONALITY•
Shade is a cold and apathetic individual, rarely showing much emotion to anyone unless they've gone out of their way to anger him. He isn't the easiest person to work with either, with an intense perfectionism on top of his icy and often mocking personality. He does not smile unless it's to sarcastically point out a mistake, after all.

That being said, anyone willing and able to hunt Cyntra will be considered an ally, and though it's unlikely he'll ever be polite, he will lay down his life without hesitation for those he trusts. Getting to that point won't be easy however, as the loss of his sister Onyx and knowledge of his hidden health condition has left him terrified of forming attachment to any living thing. Either they'll be killed and he'll be thrown into the despair of grief again, or he will die and cause them unneeded pain. Emotions are a worthless currency of the weak to Shade, or at least he tries to convince himself of that. Deep inside he craves friendship, but that is a secret he will take to his presumably early grave.

As far as he's concerned, every breath not dedicated to slaughtering Cyntra is a breath wasted... and he may not have that many breaths left, which is all the more reason for Shade to give everything he has to taking down as much of the Cyntra scourge as he possibly can.

•BACKGROUND•
Born to Obsidian and Nyx, one of the few surviving remnants of the once massive and famously shadow-gifted Ravenscroft clan, Shade inherited both the naming pattern and intense shadow affinity of his lineage, being nearly as skilled with it as his somewhat village-legendary mother.

He and his little sister Onyx were raised by their parents to use and perfect their gift, to them it was a way of ensuring their children's best chance of survival in the hellish wasteland that was their world. Their mother was a part of the Fang, a brave and wild woman who was well-loved by many despite developing the infamous Ravenscroft temper. Shade's father would stay back in the village, as despite his powerful affinity he was physically quite weak and suffered from bouts of sickness.

Life changed for the shadowy siblings when their mother went missing during one of her outings with the Fang. What happened to her was a mystery, no one had seen Cyntra or heard anything suspicious, but despite search efforts, she simply couldn't be found. Shade's father was never quite the same afterwards. Though he tried his best to raise his children in Nyx's absence, the stress and grief of his loss caused his mysterious illness (one that tragically seemed to haunt the Ravenscroft lines) to worsen and just over a year after their mother vanished, Obsidian joined his beloved wife in death.

Shade and his sister were orphaned at the tender ages of 12 and 10 respectively, but with the help of the village, Shade managed to support them both and later joined the Fang in his mother's honor, though he often ended up staying behind during their adventures to care for Onyx. Life was difficult, but the love he had for his sister kept him alive throughout the chaos and sorrow reminding him of his parents' absence.

On Onyx's 13th birthday however, Shade's entire world shattered. The girl had always been inquisitive, a natural born explorer who wanted nothing more than to see the world and all its curiousities. She knew of the Cyntra of course, but her young mind didn't seem to grasp just how terrible they were. Onyx had begged to see beyond the village for years, since before their parents had died. No one had ever agreed. Shade felt bad for her though, he had little to offer for her birthday and he knew she'd considered the number important, once a person became a teenager they were really grown up, she'd often say. Grown up enough to see places.

After much guilting and begging, Shade gave in. It was a choice that would haunt him for the remainder of his life. They snuck out together in the evening, Onyx nearly dancing with excitement as she dashed recklessly through forests and mountain rock beds with gleeful abandon. It was such a sweet, pure sight that even Shade couldn't help but smile... until they came.

Cyntra. There had to be dozens. Most were Infected, but the Calamity, albeit a small one, that crawled up from the cliff face certainly wasn't.

Shade fought wildly with his mother's second favorite sword in hand, his deceptively delicate form becoming little more than a machine of death. Most of the Infected fell before him, but it was too late.

The Calamity had gotten her, and Shade would never forget the frozen look of terror in her glassy, dead eyes as it tore her apart. In a final fit of rage, he managed to kill it by chopping its head clean off before collapsing beside the body of his sister, his arms still wrapped tightly around the decapitated head of the Cyntra like a bloody trophy.

The villagers found them hours later, their heads bowed with unspoken sorrow as they carried the unconsious Shade and his battle prize back to his now empty home. His sister was buried as he slept, it would be two days until he awoke with a desperate scream.

His nightmare had been real.

Shade kept the skull of the Cyntra he'd slain, wearing it as battle armor whenever he left to fight with the Fang. It was only fair they had to stare into the lifeless face of one of their own, he figured.

After recovering physically from the loss of his sister, Shade trained both his body and affinity daily, rarely partaking in anything that wouldn't help him slaughter the Cyntra. His life seemed entirely worthless without her, and his only purpose now was to avenge her and kill as many of those monsters as he possibly could.

The unmistakeable signs of the Ravenscroft illness began to manifest after less than a year even though he was much younger than his father had been, but Shade didn't so much as slow down despite his weakening body. If anything, he trained harder. Pushing through it became a way of life, the only way. A day off meant a Cyntra spared, and so he fought through the sickening dizziness and wiped away the blood he coughed. It was all for Onyx, for his mother, his father. Everything those putrid beasts had taken from him, one way or another.

For them, he would fight.

•OTHER•
He's a bit of a glass cannon, so to speak. Powerful, agile and fast on the attack, but physically weak. Suffers from the worsening 'mysterious Ravenscroft illness', though he's careful to hide it and will resort to blackmail if caught appearing dazed or coughing blood.

Shade was written to/inspired by this song if anyone is curious.

•APPEARANCE•
Shade is a fair-skinned and rather slight boy with silky hair as black as the shadows he controls. His face is a delicate heart shape and his eyes are large and a striking bluish purple in color, though they always appear cold and apathetic unless hunting Cyntra. He is fairly short, but thin and lanky for his height with long slender limbs. Shade, like all members of the Ravenscroft clan, prefers to dress in dark colors and wears a hint of black eyeliner and black nail paint, traditions the Ravenscroft clan has been following since before the fall of the Goddess. He prefers to wield the slightly more decorative sword of his mother, though he finds any decent blade that isn't overly heavy acceptable. When going out to battle Cyntra, Shade dons the skull of the Calamity that killed his sister as a sort of symbolic battle helmet.

Name: Remy Roth, or Rem

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Magic Affinity: Lightning

Gate Size: Body Sized

Forbidden Power: Telekinesis and the ability to transform whatever she is controlling into anything she wants without having to touch it. She has the potential to levitate entire buildings, trees, herself and people around her. While levitating herself or friends, if she isn't careful, could transform them, ultimately killing them.

Personality: Self-centered, out-spoken, will do anything to get her point across, a bit of a know it all, despite all of that she can be a really nice and caring person. Perfectionist. Sad but will never let her true emotions show, can be goofy if you get to know her or drunk, She doesn't tolerate cowards or those who are lazy. Far too many people have and will continue to die, the way she sees it the least everyone can do is fight bravely for the ones that have died.

Bio/Background: Rem's father is at the forefront for the Fang Faction. A combat and magic expert who trains those who will train the new recruits. He oversees all missions and mission reports. Rem's family, the Roth family, are the only group of people who know the truth about the collapse. They're also the only group of people that know about forbidden magic. They've been secretly protecting the village from the shadows, overseeing everything and making sure the human race survives. Rem has lived most of her life without a mother, when Rem was a toddler, around the age of 3, her mom accidentally killed herself and her older brother while attempting to show her brother how to use forbidden magic. A tragedy nobody in the Roth family likes to talk about. Those outside of the Roth family, think the two died from the Cyntra. Rem knows how to use her forbidden magic a little bit, but refuses to do so in fear she'll hurt herself or someone else, like her mother. Vowing to treat forbidden magic as its name suggest, forbidden to use. Rem is a perfectionist, brainwashed by her dad to be a killing machine. Rem doesn't like training all day, everyday, but when only 180 other people could exist, you don't have much choice. Oh yeah, Rem knows the true secret that caused the collapse, she knows everything. Wanna know? Too bad, only Rem herself can tell you that.

Name: Casey Scoutwarm

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Magic Affinity: Transformation

Gate Size: Around the size of a basketball.

Forbidden Power: Doesn't have one.

Personality: Shy, quirky, clumsy, positive, optimistic.

Bio/Background: Casey comes from a line of people who usually have the fire affinity, so when she was born with the legendary transformation ability, everyone was shocked. Casey isn't particularly good at anything and her family isn't popular or well-known either. However, her personality is what really makes her shine. Despite everything that is/has happened, she tries her best to make other people happy, even if she isn't happy herself at times. Being one of the only people in Hopenex that has the transformation affinity, she was forced to join the Fang Faction. She isn't good at combat, when put into a situation that requires her to fight, she usually runs or has a panic attack. Her main purpose for being recruited to Fang is to assist teams and provide them with equipment and repairs when out on missions. She has been fortunate enough to not have lost anyone close to her.

Appearance:

TDC2.jpg
Name: Vale Colden

Age: 18

Birthday: August 10

Gender: Male

Affinity: Water

Gate Size: Full body

Forbidden power: While some can make earth in its entirety tremble, bring hell itself on the surface of the earth, and make storms rage for centuries mimicking the Armageddon, Vale is different. For Vale doesn’t need the theatrics of seeing the world end. Why exert and waste so much effort just to ruin everything, yourself included? He has the power to bury everything in a great flood like what is stated in the biblical scriptures to start anew, or force everyone to kneel before him as the emperor of the new world, but he will not. Vale will instead seize everything with a whisper. Taking the moisture, the river of life if you would, out of every living being, not giving them the chance to even notice that they’re being harvested by a pseudo-reaper. He will leave the dried-up corpses of enemies, allies, and those who he deems unworthy behind him as he walks towards his goal.

Personality:

Vale is a level-headed person, opting to stay on the backline to analyze the situation before making an action. He is also indifferent to everything around him except for his own well-being. Even though he could care less about the people he is currently with, he'll still try and collaborate with his teammates to find the best and easiest way to dispose of the enemy. He sees the value of working as a team and will seize this opportunity to make things flow smoothly. But in the case that he deems the situation as too dangerous, he will not hesitate to retreat even if it means failing the mission or at the cost of his teammate’s lives. His life is the most important after all.

Background:

Vale hails from the Colden family, one of the local families in Hopenex that specializes in a branch of the water affinity, ice. The Colden family has a reputation in the village for being cold-blooded, as their affinity suggests. To put it simply, this made them an outcast, even in the Fang Faction. For who wants an ally that’ll leave you alone in a battlefield? Resulting in the Colden family developing their own little group of fighters. But Vale is an abnormality.

Vale hasn’t always been this cold and indifferent person that he is today. In fact, he used to be known in the village as someone who is kind and compassionate back when he was a child. With stars in his eyes and the drive to help as much people as he can, he’ll be seen running all around the little village. Helping the locals in harvesting the crops and foraging food, running errands for the elders, and occasionally joining the hunters in their adventures.

But when he reached the age of 12, his parents took him, along with other children, out to hunt their first group of Cyntra as part of the growing up ceremony that his family has been practicing for years. Vale, the optimist that he is, was excited on the prospect of proving his worth to his parents. He dedicated his whole life in training for this moment after all.

As they approach the herd of Cyntra that has been feasting on the bait they put out earlier, Vale just then realized how serious the situation is. Not everyone will survive, but Vale will do his best to try and prevent casualties. It’s his first self-appointed mission. So, Vale along with three other children got into position and initiated the ceremony.

Everything was going according to plan at first, with vale completing the ceremony by killing his first Cyntra, but then a cry for help reached his ears. Looking around, he spotted a child – Robin – pinned under a Cyntra, desperate to free from its grasp. Instead of helping, his parents and the other children turned a blind eye started to evacuate the area. Dread fills his stomach as he realizes what’s happening. So, he did what is expected of him.

He grabbed his dagger and tried to cut off the Cyntra’s head or somehow distract it as Robin escapes. It worked. While the Cyntra was distracted, Robin managed to free himself from its grasp and run away. Though, the Cyntra was able to grab Vale and slam head on the ground. Almost collapsing from the sheer force of the action, Vale reached out his hand and asked Robin to help him. Robin looked back and with a wave of his hand, wished Vale the best of luck before exiting the scene along with the others.

With the Cyntra picking Vale up and holding him above its head, he knows this’ll be the end. He wanted to scream. To curse everything and everyone around him. He wanted to make the world feel his hurt. He wanted to take, to seize, to dispose everything that exist, submerging everything in the depths of the ocean in his wake, but he didn’t. Instead of drowning the world in his anger, he let the ocean swallow his emotions instead. Letting it extinguish the fire, his passion, that has been burning all this time. He didn’t want to feel this hurt anymore. He didn’t want to expect anything from anyone.

He was tired.

With the numbing cold that spreads throughout his body, he willed the ice to freeze, to contain, to swallow. While the Cyntra’s hand that’s holding him now immobile, Vale took the opportunity to drive his dagger through its face. Killing it instantly. Laying on the ground amidst the corpses of monsters, Vale learned a valuable lesson. His life is always the first priority.

Returning to the village, he didn’t blame any of his family. It’s the way of life after all. With the ceremony finished, he is now seen as an adult, though at what cost? Vale then continued on going to hunts with the rest of the Colden family. Completing many hunts and caring less for the casualties as time progresses. Though, as he lay on his bed at night, only one thought remains before darkness consumed him.

He failed his first mission. One person died.

Cursed or gifted with a form of mastery over death, he is able to 'reanimate' dead creatures (humans, insects, fish, birds, mammals, Cyntra... does not work on plants or fungi) and use them as basically as puppets. These can be anything from the freshly dead to ancient bones, though it does not work on fully fossilized remains. He also cannot (unless under a very specific circumstance) restore the dead to true life, only a shambling sort of zombie state where unless carefully controlled they will rampage and kill all living things in their path, creating a mass of undead monstrosities that Shade will have only slight influence over. There is another aspect to this power, perhaps even more sinister than simple reanimation. If performed exactly right, Shade would in theory be able to tear the life force of living things and force it into the dead, fully resurrecting them into what, if everything went perfectly, would be indistinguishable from who they were before death. Only the life force of what he's trying to resurrect would work, meaning that for example, to revive one horse, he would need to tear the life energy out of at least ten horses, and no other species would work. The same applies to human resurrection. It is a terrible and selfish power, one that could easily drive its user mad with the urge to sacrifice many for their few. Stolen life force could also be used to save someone from near-fatal injuries and would require much less than resurrection, though one would still have to die in order for the injured to live. Shade would also be able to simply tear out this energy without re-purposing it, though the dark magic released from doing so with nowhere for it to redirect could cause odd or eerie happenings... after all, toying with death is inherently unnatural. Those drained of their life spark turn to skeletal remains instantly, all the soft parts melting away in seconds. They cannot be resurrected if their energy was used on another, but their remains can be reanimated.

Most people are simply pawns or tools for his goal. Shade is not intentionally outright cruel, he just doesn't see value in relationships or anything other than the killing of Cyntra.

That being said, anyone willing and able to hunt Cyntra will be considered an ally. He is not the type to sacrifice teammates heartlessly, but if he sees saving himself as more likely to destroy Cyntra in the long run than saving his ally, that is what he will do. It isn't personal, and he does feel remorse, but it's all for the greater good in Shade's eyes. In the same vein, he would accept his own death if it meant another individual more likely to kill the Cyntra would live. Though cold, Shade is not truly without feelings, and while it's unlikely he'll ever be polite, he will lay down his life without hesitation for those few he fully trusts regardless of how 'useful' they are in the hunt. Shade is notoriously suspicious and untrusting however, so winning this honor would be as heroic a feat as slaughtering any Cyntra. Not to mention, the loss of his sister Onyx and knowledge of his hidden health condition has left him terrified of forming attachment to any living thing. Either they'll be killed and he'll be thrown into the inescapable despair of grief again, or he will die and cause them unneeded pain, pain that will inevitable distract them from the goal of hunting Cyntra. It's better to be frigid and rude, to be hated as a person but valued as an ally. Emotions are the worthless currency of the weak to Shade, a pathetic distraction from his only remaining purpose. He is definitely not lonely, thank you very much.

As far as he's concerned, every breath not dedicated to slaughtering Cyntra is a breath wasted... and he may not have that many breaths left, which is all the more reason for Shade to give everything he has to taking out as much of the Cyntra scourge as he possibly can.

Vowing to treat forbidden magic as its name suggest, forbidden to use. Rem is a perfectionist, brainwashed by her dad to be a killing machine.
