Futuristic The Cure

Lailae

Shake hands with one person everyday
Seventy-five years. It took seventy-five years for the antidote. By then, it was almost too late. People were falling dead, randomly on the side of the road. Animals went mad, and worst of all, it just kept coming. The airborn poison spread across the world wreaking havoc and causing panic. Only the scientists knew the antidote, and it was their mission to deliver it to the world. Unfortunately, that antidote was stolen, and now a teenaged team of six must get it back. The team consists of a scientist, who is working hard to duplicate the antidote; a pilot, who needs to fly the others to different parts of the world; a soldier who protects the team; a guide, who has unmeasurable knowledge of the world; a medic, who keeps the team healthy and able; and a translator, who can read, write, and speak 132 languages. They are society's only chance of survival, they are The Cure.

Flying over the world, so high in the air. The wind blows through an open window. Erin slams it shut, sending a loud bang throughout the plane. She smiles apologetically. The risk of getting poisoned was high, and one could never be too careful. Erin looked around at her fellow team members. She sighed softly and let the gentle rumble of the plane lull her to sleep. She dreamed of better days when the air was clear and the sky was blue. She wasn't born then, but she had heard stories of green grass, and orange sunsets, majestical sunrises, and clear water. Erin smiles at the images in her mind as she drifts into a deep slumber.

Daron was sitting in the corner by himself mapping out the place they were going. He began talking himself making sure they didn't run into any trouble "Okay, so if we head this way we can avoid the animal pound. However, if head this way there is a small chance that we could run into some unwanted trouble." He bit the tip of his pen and looked at his teammates, he wondered what they were thinking. Were they preparing as well with thier abilities? Or are some of them praying to just make it out alive? Either way, Daron wanted to make sure they all got out.

Jared yawned as he saw Erin fall asleep. He rubbed his eyes trying to stay awake just in case he was needed for anything. He started to remember the past, about how he would travel everywhere and all the people he had met over the years. He noticed Erin's head was leaning in an odd fashion and pulled out a small pillow out of his bag. He walked over to her and lifted her head so that he could slide the pillow underneath. After that was said and done he walked back to his spot and went back to the process of trying to stay awake.

Erin instinctively burrowed into the pillow, still fast asleep. Her dream carried her through valleys, above mountains, under bridges, and in water. The plane suddenly jerked , and she woke up, startled. "What's going on?" she asked a little panicked. She turned to Jared. "Did.. did you get me the pillow?" she asked softly. Her face was flushed, she was a bit embarrassed that he had gotten her something. Erin wasn't used to having people do things for her.

Jared had nearly fallen asleep until he felt the plane go out of control. He sudden jerk scared him making him jump and hit his head. He began to rub his head and groaned annoyingly. He stopped rubbing his head when he had heard Erin's voice. He looked at her with a forced smile still aggravated at the plane "yeah, it's no big deal though" he looked at Daron with a still forced smile on his face "Daron, could you be a gentlemen and go find out what happened?"

Megan had been quite aggravated the entire trip stilk wondering why she was risking her life. "How come I have to risk my life? And why do I have to accompany them on the trip? I'm a pilot not some soldier" the sudden fog that had just appeared covering the plane only seemed to tick her off more. She knew she was almost to the location but she couldn't see a landing spot. A gaint building shaped itself in the fog causing her to make a swift turn from hitting it. "That's it! We can't fly with this dam fog! She began o lower the plane preparing for a lnading "looks like we'll be walking from here" she said in an irritated voice.

Erin unsteadily walked into the piloting room "Is everything alright Megan?" she asked quietly. "You seem aggravated." Erin noticed the fog, and the gradual declining of the plane. "So, we're landing now then?" She stared out the window and sighed. It was time to suit up. Erin opened a compartment, and pulled out air filter masks. Her own special invention. She created them to prevent the poison from entering the lungs of the team. She put one over her head and gave Megan one too.

Daron had nearly fallen out of his seat when the airplane yanked around. He was agitated but not ao much that he would do and complain to the pilot. Because it had seemed Erin was already doing it for him. He felt as if the plane was going down so he assumed that they were going down. He went to the front to see the two girls putting on their mask. "What? Do I not get one as well?"

Until he had put on his air filter mask, Harlan stayed quiet in the back corner of the plane. For the better part of the trip, he studied the cross-shaped necklace, weaving it between his fingers. His father never told him what this symbol was or what it represented, only that he must keep it with him wherever he goes. Harlan didn't keep it for that reason, rather to remind him of old memories. Bad memories. Memories that he can't let happen to him again. Don't be weak Harlan! This is for your own good, his father's words ring in his mind. How could that have been for my well-being. You ruined me! Harlan slowly opened his clenching fists, observing the fresh, bloody scars. He looked out the window, across the empty cityscape. Buildings rubbled, fires burning, bodies rotting. The plane skimmed the dirt surface of a small air strip just outside the city. As the plane slowly rolled to a stop, Harlan loaded his pistol and sheathed his knife, ready for the dangers of the world.

John was laying down reading one the many books he had packed when he was told what he had been signed up for. He honestly didn't care about humanity, he barely cared about himself for hell's sake! But he did what he was told, thinking it would give him something to distract him other than counting the tiles in his cell for the 5123rd time or seeing how many different shades of red made up that spot on the wall. Certainley dealing with people as excellent as himself would be more entertaining than the simple minded fools that he was forced to work with or his fellow prisoners. Maybe he would be given a pardon if he succeeded in 'saving humanity' from just one in it's infinite amount of pointless mistakes, that would give him a chance to maybe do something that mattered.

Megan had smiled at Erin trying not to act like a total drama queen. "Thanks for the mask. We are about 2 miles from the orginal landing zone though" she said putting on the mask, "if we stay here and wait fir the fog that might take to long." She noticed Daron had suddenly showed asking his dumb question about getting a mask. She simply roled her eyes and walked on pass him.

Erin turned and gave one to Daron. "Sorry" she whispered. "Come on, let's leave Megan alone." She walked out of the piloting area and sat back down. Erin's eyes scanned the plane. She sheepishly handed the remaining people masks as well. "Prepare to land, this 'll be real fun." Erin sat down and buckled her seat belt. She sighed and waited for the landing.

John sat up and put on his mask. He decided it would be best to put his book away so he wouldn't lose it in case of a rough landing and began playing some music in his head which he had managed to memorize during his endless amount of free time in jail. After a few minutes he decided it would be preferable to get to know the people he would have to work with if he wanted to survive. He turned to some boy with red hair and said, "So what horrible crime did you commit to get chained to this flying deathtrap going to one of the most hostile places on this forsaken earth?"
