Messiah of the New Night
Abandoned by man, centuries ago, Gham is an architectural marvel; still standing and strong after so many years without upkeep. No one, not even the most learned of scholars, can recall anything about Gham. There are no records or documents that mention it, except in small reference. The most anyone has to go on is urban legends passed on by elders and manchildren seeking to incite jealousy or spooks.
Among these urban legends are rumors of a huge treasure trove buried somewhere beneath the city. If one could find a way to the sewers, and then find a way beneath that, they say, it is there they will find a practical continent of gold, silver, and platinum coins and artifacts.
Others tell of a cult hidden away in the city. This cult being interesting in that they are the last practicioners of arcane magic, an act considered largely extinct. If one could find this cult, if they exist, they could quite possibly return magic to the world.
Other still claim the city of Gham is haunted by the spirits of those that had died within it; awoken by the silence of its occupants leaving the town...
But one truth about the town, which no one has lived long enough to uncover, is the new inhabitants of Gham. Vampires, creatures of the night, lurk in its dark homes, dungeons and other such places where darkness reigns. The Vampires showed up long after the occupants of Gham left, and not even they knew why. They have claimed many victims by now, each of them heading to Gham either by accident, or to investigate the rumors of treasure, magic and ghosts. Like the Humans, the Vampires do not know if this is true or not, but if it meant bringing more blood into the city, they would do all they could to keep such rumors alive.
In part due to vampiric meddling, navigating Gham leads to a lot of detours, blockades, and hidden passages. There are pathways between the upper floors of houses, and many underground passages, only few of which lead to the sewers... The vampires know Gham quite well, and their confusing renovations were done purely to slow down fleeing prey.
