Alistair Theirin:
"That's what I'm here for. To deliver unpleasant news and witty one liners."
(About Morrigan)"Well, other than the fact that she's a complete and utter bitch...no, I don't like her at all."
"They say you can get anything here. I once got pick-pocketed."
"I locked myself in a cage, once, when I was a child. For an entire day. Ahh, good times."
Alistair's mother was apparently a serving girl in the Royal Castle, who died when Alistair was a baby. He was raised by Eamon Guerrin, Arl of Redcliff, for a time. He slept in the stables with the hounds because the Arl's wife, Isolde, suspected the reason her husband took an interest in the welfare of a servant's child was that Alistair was Eamon's son. When he was old enough, she insisted that the boy be sent away to the Chantry. Isolde's suspicion were unfounded, however. Alistair was not Eamon's son, but late King Maric's who - at the time - was King of Ferelden. Eamon sheltered the boy to hide his existence on the advice of his friend, Loghain Mac Tir. He did not know of Loghain's real reason for keeping Alistair's parentage a secret. Alistair is now a possible heir to the throne, after the demise of his half brother King Cailan. Cailan was unaware of his family connection to Alistair and died in battle, unknowing. Alistair keeps his royal blood a secret to his fellow companions until they enter RedCliff. He is apologetic about hiding it from them, as it may mean the defeat of Loghain, but admits that he didn't want them to treat him differently. He tells them that when he was a boy, he was outcast from his peers for being a royal bastard. The nobles thought him too low because of his mother, and the commoners thought he put on airs because of his parentage. He tells them that it has shaped his life - even Duncan would put him out of harms way if he could - and that he didn't want it to be the same with them. He does not want to be king and he makes this clear as often as he can. Still, if he believes it is for the best for his country, then he will do what he has to.
Alistair was trained to become a templar for many years by the Chantry, this being how he learned most of his skills. He found to be ill-suited to the life of religious devotion, however. When Duncan came to the Chantry in the hopes of finding potential Grey Wardens, Alistair had not yet taken his vows and was desperately unhappy. Duncan decided to recruit him - or rescue him, as Alistair would say. While Alistair was not the most skilled fighter and was bested by other templars he was placed against in tournaments, Duncan saw his potential and admired Alistair's character above the other templars present. Sensing that he had a good and loyal heart, Duncan had the Chantry hand Alistair over to the Grey Wardens before he took his sacramental vows. Alistair is now one of the only two surviving Warden's in Ferelden and became a Warden only six months before Elissa.
Family is important to Alistair, despite the fact that he's mostly been cast aside by the little that he had. He mostly considered the Grey Wardens - Duncan especially - to be his family and when he learned of Loghain's betrayal and their deaths, he was very upset and spent some time grieving while Elissa recovered from her injuries in Morrigan's home. Bringing up Duncan will upset him, mostly, unless he wants to talk about it himself. He has a sister - Goldanna - that lives in Denerim and is interested in seeking her out if they happen to pass through. He is nervous about meeting her but grateful that he has some family alive.
Alistair is very compassionate. He strives to do what's good and right and put's his duty as a Grey Warden above all else. While he's confident in battle, he can have his insecure moments in every day life. He tends to use humor and jokes to cover up his inexperience or embarrassment. He's charming and witty and quite deep when it comes to things that are important to him. Sometimes he just loses all tact, especially when asking for advice. He tends to say the wrong thing like, pointing out that someone is old or when asking for advice from a woman, starting by saying "pretend you're a woman, for a minute."
Alistair becomes romantically interested in Elissa. He does not take relationships lightly and when he does fall in love, it's forever. Having lived in the Chantry for most of his life, Alistair is inexperienced when it comes to romantic involvement. In other words, he's a virgin. He was taught to treat women with respect and chivalry (unless, of course, they're Morrigan) and took that with him when he became a Grey Warden.
He and Morrigan do not get on at all. Where he is sweet and kind, she is unforgiving and cold. Their views seem to always differ and they are forever butting heads. He doesn't trust her and she thinks he's an idiot so they try to stay out of each other's presence as long as possible.
He's partial to ale, cheese and little statuettes of dragons and golems, though he doesn't like to admit the latter.
His weapons are his Grey Warden sword and his Templar shield.
He's bout twenty two or twenty three.

Morrigan:
"Witch of the Wilds? Such idle fancies, those legends. Have you no minds of your own?"
"Now we have a dog... and Alistair is still the dumbest one in the party."
"Men are always willing to believe two things about a woman; one, that she is weak, and two, that she finds him attractive."
"He's just trying to be manipulative. I can tell, I do it too."
Of herself, Morrigan says little. She does not deny being a witch of the Wilds but beyond that, everything about her is in question. Her mother claims to be Flemeth, a very old and very powerful witch that has played her part in ghost stories for centuries. If that's true, then Morrigan might well be a powerful witch. The tales tell that the daughters of Flemeth are twisted, monstrous women who can kill a man with fear. She was made to accompany the two Grey Wardens after they were rescued by her mother. The payment, Flemeth said, for saving their lives at the Tower of Ishal.
Morrigan is reluctant (or unable) to confirm Flemeth's actual background. Whatever Flemeth's history, she did raise Morrigan, quite isolated from civilized society. Because of this, Morrigan has had limited interaction with fellow humans. She generally dislikes the race of man, but finds herself intrigued by exceptional specimens. She admires powerful things, and will often insist they be released and kept alive even if they're evil and/or a threat to others. Morrigan has the ability to shapeshift. She can turn herself into an animal and whenever she sought company, she usually spent her time with the animals of the Kokari Wilds.
As Morrigan has never had much experience interacting with other humans, she's not exactly all that polite. She comes across as uncaring and selfish, finding it a silly waste of time to help those are in need when there are more pressing things to be done. She believes that everyone must look out for themselves and that survival comes first. Many templars that have crossed into the Kokari Wilds have died by her hands. She is, after all, an apostate. She has dry, sarcastic humor and Alistair is most often on the receiving end of it. She gets great enjoyment from torturing him like this. She doesn't seem to have any real love for or connection to anything; even her mother who she simply tolerates because she's raised her. Flemeth raised her to be that way; to believe that emotional connections are a threat and a nuisance. Still, it doesn't mean that she can't be persuaded to see otherwise.
If you want to get on Morrigan's good side, she does enjoy receiving gifts. Golden jewelry, mostly, or something of equal value.
Her weapon is her staff, given to her by her mother once she was old enough.
She's about twenty three or twenty four.
