Name: Lukas (formerly known simply as "Cloak," after the cloak he was wearing when the slavers brought him in.)

Appearance:
Xino siedzi i myśli.jpg

Age: 23 (He looks a bit older than he actually is, mainly due to his years of hard labor.)

Race: Half-Elf

Height: 5'11

Weight: 120 lbs.

Gender: Male

Weapon (If Applicable):
Primarily, two daggers, a shortsword for direct combat, and a hand crossbow.

Fighting Style:
Saying that Lukas fights is giving it more credit than it deserves. Lukas survives. He doesn't fight fair. If possible, he won't fight at all, simply sneaking by any enemies and doing his job. But if he is forced into combat, he never fights one-on-one. He uses every advantage at his disposal, singling out weaker enemies and dismantling them while remaining unnoticed. He mixes a lot of his training with some things he learned on his own, creating his own, unique fighting technique.

Skills:
(What can they do outside combat)

-Stealth: Lukas is skilled at subterfuge, having a good knowledge of how to remain unseen and unheard.
-Lockpicking: Picked up during his time as a slave, Lukas is a damn good lockpick, able to open just about anything with enough time.
-Combat: Not his best skill, but he was given sword training upon being inducted.

Magic (If Applicable)

Personality:

For someone who spent over a decade of their lives wasting away as a slave, Lukas is surprisingly upbeat and optimistic. Sure, he can sometimes be the pessimist, but he tries to stay as positive as he can, mainly due to his past. He's already seen what people are capable of. He's seen the worst of humanity, but he still tries to see the good in them. Because if everyone can be saved, so can he. That being said, there is...darkness in him. He still remembers being a slave. The torture, the hunger, and he some things make him snap. He also has some symptoms of PTSD, and has a crippling fear of tight, enclosed spaces. This comes along with his tendency for being incredibly spiteful towards figures of authority, often to his own detriment.

Backstory:
Lukas, or "Cloak" as he was called for most of his life, was practically born a slave. A half-elf, he was highly prized, and was often gawked at and put on as a show by his master. Whenever he wasn't the court jester, he was put to work in the nearby mines, performing literally backbreaking work in horrendous conditions. The Empire had mastered the art of holding slaves, feeding them just enough to not hinder their work, but never enough for them to escape or rise up. They were also fond of torture, both for pleasure and as a warning to any would be escapees. Many slaves were so broken by their constant torture that they even began to enjoy themselves, even reporting anyone trying to escape. All Lukas wanted was freedom, the chance to carve his own destiny. Turns out Lukas had a knack for sneaking around, due to his small size and generally unassuming appearance. So every night, he'd pick the lock on this cage and sneak around. Sometimes he'd get caught, other times he wouldn't. It was mainly to prepare himself for escape. During this time, he befriending an older dwarf simply called Flint. Flint pretty much became the boy's surrogate father, making sure Lukas was fed and taken care of. Lukas let him in on the plan, and for the next several years, they planned to help everyone escape.

The night finally came. They'd mapped out the mine, had a list of everyone willing to escape, and they planned it all on a holiday, when the guards were drunk. It was nearly perfect. Nearly. Until a slave, walking out of the barracks to fetch more wine, noticed the escapees, and sounded the alarm. It was a massacre. Dozens were put to the sword, and by the time they were out of the gates, only Lukas and Flint had made it. But they were both injured badly, and Flint couldn't run. So he stayed behind, and Lukas tearfully left him to die. What happened next was a blur. Lukas did whatever he could to survive, mainly stealing from farms and sleeping in caves. He'd heard stories of Garatuna, a land of freedom and prosperity. It sounded too good to be true, but it was something. Lukas had never felt more relieved than when he finally crossed the border, and was officially free. But what now? He had no real skills, and he sure as hell wasn't working himself to death on a farm. So he headed for the capital, and figured he'd use the oppurtunity to rob some nobles blind. Not like they needed it, anyway. This went on for about three years, with Lukas taking refuge in an old abandoned shop in the poorer parts of the city. His skills finally caught the attention of the local thieves guild, and for a while, he did a few jobs for them in the hopes of joining up. But the jobs kept on coming, and the pay got lower and lower. He eventually realized he was just a grunt, and they were never letting him into the organization. He tried to break in and steal form them, but he was found and promptly beaten to a bloody pulp and dumped in the nearby river.

Lukas was surprised to wake up in what looked like a castle. He wasn't even shackled or in a prison cell. Turns out he had once again caught the eye of someone, this tiem a member of the Black Rose Knights. They were looking for someone of Lukas'...talents, and in exchange for full citizenship, a pardon of all previous crimes, and even a place to stay, he accepted the offer. At first he felt uneasy. After all, it was the Emperor that had allowed slavery in the Empire to begin with. but as he grew to know her, Lukas realized he had finally found something worth fighting for. She truly was a good Queen, and the Knights were his family. But this all came crashing down, in the end. The nobility murdered the Queen, arrested the Knights, and began feasting on the corpse that was Garatuna. Lukas was furious. Once again, it was the nobility and their lust for power that had led to suffering. But this time, he wasn't the same scared slave he was back in Barooth. Now, he could fight back...

Strengths:
Loyal
Empathetic
Optimistic

Weaknesses:

Spiteful
Bitter
Stubborn

Other:
As mentioned before, he has severe claustrophobia, and will freak out if forced into it. He's also a big eater, despite being quite thin, and almost always has some food on him.

Name: Hanlon Quinn

Appearance:
1603655802575.png
Age: 32

Height: 6'2

Weight: 155 lbs

Gender: Male

Race: Revenant

Weapon: Quarterstaff

Fighting Style:

Hanlon's fighting style is... odd, to say the least. The human brain has this little quirk that means that, to avoid doing damage to itself, it puts a limit on the amount of strength the body can exert at any given time. Hanlon's body is technically a corpse, but his mind is as sharp as ever, which he uses to puppet him husk of a body much like a marionette doll with fine motor control, allowing him to use surprising strength and speed as he flings himself at an enemy, doing as much devastation as the human body can do at the peak of its power (which is surprisingly high). Though, this technique puts his own vessel at risk, so he prefers to use his meat puppets which range from rotting corpses of animals to even the fallen enemies he is fighting against at that moment - it's a great hit to morale when your fallen comrades rise again only to attack you in hordes, which is exactly what Halon does.

Magic:
Reanimation:
allows conversion of dead beings into semi-autonomous golem-esque creatures that lack intelligence
Puppetry: allows full control of the bodies of dead creatures and willing living creatures

Personality:
He takes a somewhat sadistic pleasure in making other people feel uncomfortable, especially around matters such as the desecration of the dead, the afterlife, and simply gross-out humour all whilst maintaining a holier-than-thou attitude when pretending to be a regular human and not undead. He doesn't need a motivation or justification for doing anything beyond the amusement of the act itself and as a result, he almost inevitably does things that are socially unacceptable or taboo just for a laugh or in a sardonic attempt to mock that which should not be mocked.

Backstory:
In life, Hanlon was a powerful sorcerer who led the forefront for magical research, though his less than ethical experiments turned a lot of heads and raised a lot of suspicion against him. He had a secret, you see - he aimed for lichdom, which remains his goal throughout his undeath. Why wouldn't he? Immortality, control over life and death, and powerful magic? It sounded like an absolute bargain. So the first step was to start dabbling in necromancy alongside typical magical fields. Now, as you may know, people feel a bit squicky about playing around with dead things, and most people considered necromancy quite taboo for whatever reason (something about morals and whatnot?) but Hanlon paid no mind to the naysayers and continued his research.

His work was unorthodox, but frighteningly enough, he was yielding results and had managed to resurrect a living soul, but only her skull. Penelope, the skull that resides that the top of his quarterstaff, acts as the superego to his id - being the guiding hand and rational one between the two of them, ensuring Hanlon never went too astray in being human. It was a weird relationship and we're not going into it. His magical talent, coupled with his eccentricity and necromantic tendencies eventually led to him becoming somewhat of a social pariah, the sort of wizard locked up in a tower doing nefarious experiments that weren't open to the public eye, but that eventually got him in trouble with the religious groups and wider law in general.

He was arrested under suspicion of killing and reanimating innocents (though he claimed that every body he used was dead when he found them) and promptly executed, but of course, being the big picture planner he was, he had a contingency plan - becoming an animated undead, thus retaining his life into death. The prospect of a zombie knight was abhorrent to anyone who wasn't the Black Rose Knights, who welcomed Hanlon with open arms despite his constitution, his hordes of minions being a quintessential crowd control aspect with his corpse corp (dumb pun, but I like it, sue me) whilst the others dealt with the actual killing (and thus recruitment in Hanlon's eyes) of stronger enemies. Penelope seemed to adore the Queen, and Hanlon very much respected her open-mindedness, especially as she had permitted him to continue his research (in a more ethical manner) in his private time and he inched ever closer to lichdom as well as developed friendships in the group.

During the betrayal of the Queen, Hanlon was killed, again, his body destroyed and his soul was left wondering looking for a suitable host for longer than he cared to count - now he's found one and is ready to grow his army of undead using the bastards that had ruined everything they had worked for.

Strengths:
  • He's dead, so once he finds his main body unusable, he can simply move his spirit to a nearby (dead) host, though acclimatising so a new body is unpleasant and takes several days to weeks so he avoids this whenever possible
  • Martial arts expert - to best puppet his own form for combat, he's familiarised himself with what works best
  • Anatomy and biology expert

Weaknesses:
  • His body is dead and hence doesn't heal itself or regenerate in any way, leading to him Frankensteining bits from other bodies as a replacement for when they are beyond use
  • He focuses on the bigger picture and therefore misses out on the minutiae of a situation that can make or break a plan
  • His detachment from human life leads to him making rash decisions that unnecessarily put people in more risk
  • He's undead, so magic that harms undead is just as effective against him

Theme Song:
I don't know enough music for this, but I'm sure someone can think of something better than I can

Name: Thorgrim Ironfist

Appearance:

1603913584160.png

Age: 112 (“I don’t look a day over 100”)

Race: Dwarf (“Was it the beard that gave it away ?”)

Height: 4ft 4 in (“Are you calling me short ?”)

Weight: 16 stone (“We Dwarfs are ‘big boned’ ya know “)

Gender: Male (“I’ll give you this, what with the Dwarf lassies having their own beards”)

Weapon : Cesti (2 x Cestus) and Repeating crossbow

Fighting Style: Get in close and beat’em to death

Skills: A skilled blacksmith and tinkerer, his magic only coming into play after he'd mastered the art of the Smith.

Magic : MetalMage, is able to control and manipulate metals by touch, he can change the shape, toughness etc. Has total control over his armour and weapons due to his familiarity with them. Anything else takes concentration, changes will revert to normal 5 minutes after leaving his hands.

Personality:
Grumpy, irritable, pessimistic, sarcastic, annoyed by foolishness, looking for a fight (sober)

Happy, jolly, practical joker, looking for a fight (drunk)

In his time as a Gladiator he met all kind of people, he refuses to judge someone on their looks instead he tend to automatically distrust them until they prove otherwise.

Backstory:

Despite being born to two highly skilled casters Thorgrim failed to manifest magical abilities, no Rock sense, no tunnel awareness, no stone shaping or other common Dwarven talents. Disappointed he was unable to follow in their footsteps instead Thorgrim threw himself into learning to become a blacksmith.
His determination and drive led him to become a master smith in just 50 years, skilled in both weapon and armour making .

He had moved to the city to ply his trade amongst the humans but mastering a trade does not grant wisdom nor common sense. After refusing to join the Guild of Smiths he fell foul of their cartel and after being wrongly accused was stripped of his forge, his accreditation and sentenced to 15 years hard labour.

His strength and toughness was swiftly recognised though and an unscrupulous overseer sold him to the Verillian Gladitorian school.
Well used to violent, dangerous men there would be no escaping , the iron gates, chains, high stone walls and frequent guards meant the only way to leave would be with death. From the vicious guards, merciless training or constant fights and battles in the arena.

Thorgrim earned a name for himself over the years, his favourite weapons the Cestus, heavy iron gauntlets, spiked and studded to bludgeon and batter his foes.

Now Dwarfs are a long lived race, they are only regarded as no longer a child at 50 years but their true coming of age is at 100. When they are viewed as being an Adult Dwarf with the skills and abilities to support their family and their city for the next 100 years of their life.

It was on his centenary, his 100th Birthday when his magical abilities suddenly began to awaken.

To begin with it was just an awareness of the quality of the metal, he’d pick some armour or cestus over others without really knowing why. Then he found he could sense any weaknesses in his cuffs and eventually he was able to stretch the weakness, creating cracks.

Thorgrim realised that this was Metalshaping, one of the rarest Dwarven Arts Magical and despite over a decade fighting on the bloody sands to entertain the crowds he was patient. Slowly practising and training until he was sure he could control it. Unlike mages normally he had no teacher, no mentor, no guide, he had to teach himself and keep it a secret, from the guards and his fellow Gladiators.

It took 3 years before he was ready.

The day of the escape he was able to remove his cuffs, changing the metal, making it flow and change until his fists were covered in the iron gloves he was so familiar with. Gates, locks and bars were no obstacle to him and soon he found himself standing outside the high walls of the gladiator school.
After over a decade fighting in the arena he was finally free, he could do anything he wanted now but first he had to escape the city …..

He was captured 3 days later in an inn after a monumental bar crawl, 3 bar fights, 7 concussions, 34 broken bones and one barbarian with most of a bar stool where no bar stool should be. Surprising no deaths though which denoted an element of self control under the very worst of circumstance.

It was this plus his new magical abilities which drew the attention of the Queen who, recognizing a use for someone of his talents pardoned him and recruited him into the Order of the Black Rose.

Strengths:
Very strong and tough, years of Smithing followed by his time as a Gladiator enable him to shrug off wounds which would kill a normal man.

Stubborn as a mule

No prejudices, he’s equally irritated by all races and creeds

Weaknesses:
Likes a drink which tends to lead directly to

Likes a fight, wont back down from a challenge.

Cannot swim, sinks like a stone.

It's because the authority of the village decided to quarantine the village completely and left the capital in the dark about the incident. Rouge was the only one unfortunate enough to survive the cremation, with heavy burnt scars all over her body she crawled out of the cremation pit and vanished into the wilderness. She was sure she would become wolf's food back then, but a pair of infected people saved her and nursed her until she was able to recover. The scars stays but she survived.
