The Barren Mother

What about for if our characters are outsiders, like mine? One of the other group that don't really belong or have history with the main group of friends?

Phew, wow Pine. I love your idea, though. (Also I am scared to go against your might at the moment.) Okay, okay, let me think, okay.... (I'm so imaginative right now! :3)

First off, I'd like to say De is perfect for the dog. His mother is a widow and would have gotten a dog to help cope with her husband's death. I have no idea what breed or a name, but I'm sort of relying on everyone else for it. Although, I was thinking of a breed that's known for its long life span and also known to be good with children. This is just because I was figuring that De's mother wouldn't want a dog that wouldn't live very long. She wouldn't want to go through another death later on. (It sounds so cruel, but wouldn't you?) Considering the dog would be friendly with children, teens, and adults a like; I would think the dog would be very playful. I'll try to do some research, but I'd appreciate your efforts as well.

As for the neighborhood, I have an idea.

I was thinking that the neighborhood would be in the dead center of everything. As in most important buildings, like school, would be in walking distance. (Call me selfish, but De's deadly afraid of driving in the winter, the season the role play is taking place) Name, well I'll try to give some suggestions later. This is my opinion, so we definitely don't have to use it if you do not want to. De would most definitely reside in the neighborhood.

I'll type more, but I wanted to get this out first.

I am backing out of this RP. I don't think I will be a good participant for how you want this RP to operate. I am more interested in the plot of the story rather than the history of the characters.

Best of luck,

Circus

Treehouse, yes. Sorry, but I doubt De could do it. His mother would not allow it. Sorry, but truth....

I can offer De to be that bbfl. He's been in the neighborhood since he was seven. Although, this will require more planning, and I have to save more of that until my next post. He loves making friends and is overall very friendly to everyone. He'd probably keep trying to make you a friend as long as he's intrigued by you. He isn't one to just give up until you absolutely tell him to stop with all the strength you can muster.

More to come

Okay so I'm on my phone and I'll elaborate on this when I can get on a computer but Matthias can be that bffl as well. I haven't written his history yet but he's always been a quieter child/more introverted and I feel as if he'd met someone and become friends with them early on, he'd be more open to accepting other people as friends. If that makes any sense, haha.

I'll elaborate on this after the episode of Dexter. :P

Elaboration to come. XP

Sorry to hear that, Circus, but I do wish you the best of luck in your endeavors ~

@DecayintoChaos

Okay, so my perspective of Noah has changed somewhat since we last talked (I see you have added some things, so lol).

I imagine Noah just making a lot of bitchy comments about people in whatever setting he is in, and I think this would be something that amuses Nick, because it would be almost exactly what he was thinking, but just delivered in a more witty fashion.

He would basically be saying what he wanted to say, but Nick at LEAST has the decency to keep his comments to himself unless otherwise provoked (like someone trying to talk to him lol).

I don't know about Noah's perspective of it all, but there would probably be some instances where he could appreciate that Nick agrees with him, and they could occasionally be bullies buddies and team up against other people, haha.

I mean, I think there would still be those moments where Nick grows annoyed by him (because he sometimes, but rarely, draws the line on when to stop/shut up), but otherwise he would just find him to be funny.

what you think what you think?

would they butt heads when/if that happens ~?

@Ghost

Well, we already know these two get along famously. lol

So just to elaborate on how they amuse each other...

Would Orion frequently want to be in on helping him with his pranks, or would he just want to be there to witness the end result of his masterpieces?

Um... one problem (not really but you know) is that Nick isn't as creative as Orion. LOL

Like, when Orion starts making up all those stories, he would definitely laugh, but I don't think he'll always be able to come up with something to say in return.

But if Orion was telling someone else some exaggerated lie, Nick would definitely back him up, and I think THAT'S when he would be able to be the most creative.

I'm not sure, would Orion give up on telling those stories only to Nick at that point? xD

and no, orion, he doesn't like your hair

More to come, but for now, dinner ~

/skips off

Whoop! It's official, my family is made up of vampires (including me)

Sorry, totally off topic. Okay, getting on topic.

@Pine

Dang it, I knew it! =.=

XP You sound like a dog expert compared to my knowledge. I've never had any pets, so yeah. I'll try and help, but I'll leave half the effort to you (less than half, maybe, a quarter?) Wellll, De's mom would be floating in and out of depression. Therefore despite her effort to have a dog to help with the pain, she would end up leaving her be. De would be the one to take care of her and have her go almost everywhere with her. De basically has to take care of himself at times. I guess that solves that problem. We still have name problems and breed problems.

Yeah, yeah, true. I was thinking it would be an even shorter walk with the neighborhood. XP De has always resided there since age seven. :3 Okay, I'll help elaborate, possibly.

True, true dat. :3 XP

Yes, exactly! Glad we're on the same page! :3 Also him moving from a big city can always spark interest (Like Nick except he was sort of an a hole ((no offense))) His father not to mention. The first person he probably, upon his move, saw was Matthias and immediately befriended him. De just couldn't help but open up completely to him, Mattie questioning his extreme ness and just liking it? Of course it all comes down to @Sunflakes for Mattie's backstory.

Yes, good. Awesome.

YUSH! :3

Of course he would literally drag people. //shot

Sorry for the late reply, family party.

OMFG

the avatar xD

My friend sent it to me on Skype and I swear it looked familiar and omfg now I know why

i'm going to go change it :P

@LuckyMisfortune

oh stahp u

Well, what we could do is just find a picture of a dog that you like.

Mutts, more or less by definition, are dogs that were not bred for, so they could be all sorts of combinations of breeds, usually impossible to determine.

They're usually dogs that you adopt from rescue programs, the pound, etc.

If she was adopted, that could explain why her dogtag would say Angel and that would technically be her name, but they just like calling her Ripper more, so... cx

172273_186626171367934_8273819_o.jpg

^ like, on the right, that was my aforementioned dog.

and harley on the left but she's a queensland heeler and smaller than i had intended

Ideally, I think it would be cool if this dog was sort of medium-size.

If you want, I could just start scouring the internet for pictures? xD

No offense taken.

Nick was, is, and forever will be an asshole. :'D

ehehe it's fine i understand having a life c;

@Sunflakes

LOL IT'S FINE

SO LIKE DOES YOUR FRIEND KNOW WHERE IT'S FROM OR DID THEY JUST THINK IT LOOKED NEAT

i mean

Sorry for the late reply, family party.
I'm on board with that. Mattie would probably think De was a weirdo when they first met because of how quickly he opened up to him and I can see Matt telling De he was a weirdo but, y'know, stuck around anyway because he found him interesting. considering he's lived in the town his entire life and there aren't many exciting things for a kid like mattie to do by himself . But yeah, I like that idea. So this would mean that Matthias also lives in this neighbourhood that still needs a name, haha. I've only ever lived in French neigbourhoods so I don't think I'd be the best in coming up with a name, but I can try. xP

@Pine

OKAY GOOD GOOD

She mentioned something about Katatonia?

definitely staying on topic here

yes

srs bsns

/back to the brainstorming corner

@Sunflakes

Don't worry about coming up with the name for the neighborhood. xD

I'm thinking something along the lines of a type of tree/berry/tree berry, I'll look some things up later. lol

YESSSSSSSSS LIKE NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THAT BAND YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A LISTEN YOUR FRIEND IS A FANTASTIC PERSON 10/10 AND DON'T BE AFRAID TO TELL THEM I SAID THAT

i mean uh-

Okay, so, looking at Matty...

I don't think that he and Nick will be too close, at least comparatively.

They're both introverts in their own way and I don't see Nick taking any particular interest in Matty.

They would be more like bros by obligation.

Not to say that they don't get along at all or anything, and Nick might sometimes think he's funny and vice versa, but otherwise...

Unless you're thinking otherwise and I have the wrong impression of Matty?

nick likes doing things

like stupid things

and pranking people

so i feel like he would find matty to be pleasant if a bit boring??

they're kinda' similar lol

from what i can tell anyway

@Pine

Oh your dogs are so precious! :3 (I want a dog, but I have no responsibility when it comes to animals at all)

I guess we can look on google. I love your dogs sure, but I feel like finding something... (Partially because I like finding pictures)

Hahahahahaha! Of course De would put up with anyone he found interesting.

@Sunflakes

Cool, cool! So to sum it all upppppp~

Upon De's move to Fairtown, he quickly found a boy in his class intriguing. De later found out this boys name was Matthias. Quickly, he opened up to him and hung around him. Seven year old Matthias quickly said De was weird. De, who didn't really mind, accepted the term and just became friends with him. Besides, who wouldn't find a kid from a different city that spoke funny weird? Mattie himself stuck around De because of his weirdness, and besides, there wasn't much to do Ina small town and a kid like him.
Also, random note.

Imma draw everyone's characters! *confetti* I recently drew De and I felt really happy with this newfound raw inspiration. Okay, I will draw everyone. (Watch out world! XP)

@Pine

Anything berry sounds pretty legit for a small town neighbourhood Cx

:o I'LL TELL HER SHE'S A 10/10 AND I'LL GIVE THE BAND AS SOON AS I STOP WATCHING DEXTER.

shhh it's okay. she's pretty amazing

Bros by obligation -- couldn't have said it better. :P

Nope, I was actually going to approach you about that. I didn't think that they'd be super close either sooooo great minds think alike? Mattie wouldn't go out of his way to try and get to know Nick and vice versa, I feel. I feel as if they'd be the type of bros who just acknowledge each others' presence and not read much past it.

Am I wrong in saying this?

Maybe?

@eheu

Okay, so admittedly, Emily's personality confuses me a little, and she seems to have a ton of contradictions.

Either way, I know that she will invariably piss Nick off... like, any time she opens her mouth. xD

He would probably describe her as some sort of loud, obnoxious try-hard, and the shallow part of him would probably be very critical of her careless appearance.

Then ironically enough, she might describe him the same way, if I'm understanding her correctly.

He might not know about her until a couple of years after he had moved to Fairtown, but how I imagine it is him having some class period where he would always have to pass her in the hallways, and he would hear her voice (which would annoy him) and making "bad jokes" or "stupid comments", he would find her rather annoying and difficult to ignore.

Then later they had a class together, and with him having already developed a sour opinion of her, he would be needlessly crude when addressing her, if he ever had to do so.

Then on her side, I don't think she would be much of a fan of his pranks? cx

@LuckyMisfortune

Haha, I was just using her as an example, I wouldn't want her to be used. xD

BUT YES YOU LOOK FOR PICTURES THIS PLEASES ME

because i'm gradually predicting all these relationships one by one haha

and nick is very interesting totes defs

@Sunflakes

professor oak, birch, juniper and rowanwood, anyone ? lolol

GOOD YES VRY VRY GOOD

That particular picture is from The Great Cold Distance (album), but I think that Dead End Kings would probably be the most likable to anyone listening to them for the first time. lol

unless you're really into heavy rifts in which case

Ahh, I still think they could occasionally talk, MAYBE have some instances of sarcastic banter, but otherwise, yeah...

I don't think they would open up to each other as much and would still be pretty private, if that makes sense.

i mean

nick would still beat up anyone who tries talking crap about matty

but that would almost be more for the fact that he likes getting into fights sometimes l o l

Which, btw, wouldn't have to be mutual, because that's just kind of what Nick does. 8D

so sad that our characters are so close

yet so far ~~

lolol

@Pine

Is it wrong that I want to base De's dog after my own preferences.

Alaskan Husky is the cutest friggin breed everrrrr. (Sorry Huskies are so adorbs)

This wouldn't be her, but look

1353234165~Bunch-of-cute-Alaskan-Husky-has-sat-together-.jpg

*sqeeeeeeeeeeeee*

Okay serious, serious.

Alaskans are considered a pure breed, sorta, but they are a certain mix of Siberian Huskies and other work dogs. So, she would be able to keep up with the boys, at least, and maybe help around? (Also they are fluffy, De loves fluffy dogs)

This picture? (Off google images)

alaskan-husky-0077.jpg

So I would describe her as a white-blonde husky with blue eyes?
Also this wiki

Characteristics of course

@LuckyMisfortune

yah huskies are cute

BUT YES I THINK THAT WORKS JUST FINE

approved_red_stamp.png

OKAY SO I THINK THAT DANTE AND NICK CAN HAVE A VERY INTERESTING RELATIONSHIP

I'm having a lot of ideas, and I'm just going to regurgitate them in no logical order into this post haha.

So I think that Nick has a lot of respect for Dante, which is a super rare thing to get from Nick... ever.

He recognizes De as a hard worker (inevitably knowing about his situation at home) and a genuinely well-meaning person (though not enough kind and happy in the way that makes him hate other people, lol. I honestly don't know how to explain it, I can just tell), which is something he holds in high regard.

Also, they're both athletes, so they have some bonding through that in a way, even if they've never been in the same sport.

maybe they work out together sometimes

jk because nick only likes to run

unless de would want to just join him in running occasionally but otherwise

But all the same, I think their relationship can be rocky at times.

When De starts to get whiny, he will be quick to annoyed and, well, Nick really isn't a person to take up emotional problems with in the first place, so that's a thing. lol

Still, it's something he can get over quickly, then he'll probably be fine with him in the next hour or two again.

Then I think there would be time that Dante would find Nick excessively cruel, and whether or not he likes his pranks, I don't know.

I don't know how De would handle that, so I'll leave you to elaborate on that. xD

Um... since Nick can be pretty temperamental and impulsive when certain things are said, I think that De could be pretty good with pacifying him... sometimes.

Well, better than most people, anyway.

I also like the idea that Nick was originally very close-minded when it came to people's different sexualities, but with time, De somewhat indirectly helped him realize how needlessly stupid his biases (and his own ignorance, but y'know, HE may never put it that way haha) were, so he's come around to that.

so there

@Pine

Yay! Thank you so much and I'm glad you see my point (dang now I want a dog)

YES THEY WOULD

a hmm, I like where this is going....

I agree completely. Although I'm not sure what to say in return, yet.

I'm sure De would run with him (cant get fat, pfft) I was thinking that the school would hold something where the athletes of the school get together and just do stuff. (Sort of like homecoming, though my definition of homecoming can be different from yours)

True.

Well I'm sure anyone would be annoyed by his whining. During that time everyone would probably give him a cold shoulder and he'd probably shut up for a certain amount of time (still whining but whatever).

Getting over him would be great, he is an annoying piece of shit (jk everybody loves him..... XP)

True, he would. During that time De would try and be understanding, yet that would piss him off a little (De doesn't get pissed, jk)

Pranks are good, he'd probably joined. Although it depends on who they were pranking. De is fun-loving and definitely enjoy pranking and laughing with Nick.

Yes, I agree.

De would probably, being extremely strong could try and hold him back. He's a sweet talker, too. Very persuasive, yes. Also he has influence over the students and people of Fairtown (MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

Yes, I agree, yet again.

De's relationship is ridiculously (almost) fluffy and cute. Even the most cold-hearted people couldn't hate them that much. With De's persuasion he could definitely give Nick a new onlook on the homosexual relationship.

Phew, I like where this is going. @eheu and I have a pretty good relationship via PM

@LuckyMisfortune

But of course.

dogs are great crais

ahaha you're fine lucky i'm not going to kick you out of the role play

i just wanted to make sure not everyone was just complying to my ideas because otherwise i would have no confidence in my ideas lol

I'm pretty sure I get what you mean for homecoming (though it was pretty stupid imo, at least where I come from haha), so that could be a thing.

We don't have to elaborate too much on that, so no worries. cx

I mean, it's a possibility they met that way, but I honestly think they'll have met by some other means.

but okay for running because nick would get bored lifting weights and other gym things haha

Ah, okay.

Nick's pranks are... usually harmless and for fun, but if someone really gets on his bad side... hahaaaaaaaa. :'D

but malicious and revenge pranks are something that he would do privately, unless someone also shares his opinions of the person (probably orion lol)

Haha, I meant sweet talking his way out of fights, but literally holding him back works, too!

Well, I don't think that Nick would have ever been openly homophobic (except maybe say the occasional ignorant comment in, say, sixth grade or something, because sixth graders are rotten little turds, which makes nick...), so De may or may not have caught on in the first place. xD

@SkyGinge

Okay, so unless you have any ideas for Roderick ever speaking to him, I think that Nick would be more annoyed by him than anything.

He finds the way Rod dresses to be bizarre, especially because he's so quiet.

Another idea is that, if they ever had a class together, a teacher might call on Rod to answer the question, and he would answer in that excruciatingly slow way that he speaks, and Nick is WAY too impatient to listen to that, so that especially irritates him.

Also, Roderick doesn't have a sense of humor, and Nick doesn't like people who don't think he's funny. LOL

So all of that would lead up to what I think would be Rod being on the receiving end of some of Nick's more harmless pranks (provided he ever finds out where he lives, like if he were to be in the main neighborhood) and, if Rod ever did anything that managed to make Nick actually angry (I don't know how he would take pranks on the sort of hit-and-run-doorbell-whatever level), then his pranks might escalate, but otherwise... just annoyance. xD

@DecayintoChaos

@SkyGinge

I don't exactly know if our characters would mesh well, but I'm open for anything! Also, may I draw Rod? I feel like just drawing all of our characters! I'll credit you, of course, if I were to post it.

@Ghost

Work something out when you get back kk?

@LuckyMisfortune

well

until we both feel confident with you having a pet dog

stick with stuffed animals and we'll be good

oh ty /animu blushes

Oh, but don't you know that would have ended horribly? 8D

because nick was so angsty when he first moved to fairtown

those were dark times

So how does De feel about a kid acting like a total jerk when it seems completely uncalled for? xD

I'll take it as relevant because extremists are a thing. cx

Honestly, the only reason why Nick identifies at all as a Christian is because he was raised into it and closely values things that were important to his adoptive parents like that.

If he actually cared enough about religion to sit down and think about it, he would probably be more along the lines of agnostic deism... but really he just doesn't care lol.

sixth graders are worse than freshman

UMM YES LIKE IS THAT EVEN A QUESTION PLEASE DO THAT WILL LITERALLY MAKE MY LIFE??

(i knew i forgot to reply to something lol)
OH AND SINCE I'M LOOKING BACK AT THAT POST

AND LIKE A LOT LESS DISTRACTED NOW

show me what you drew of deeeeeeeeeeeeee

@Pine

Yep. Otherwise, you would see my mug on the news or something

Jk! XP

Your welcome! *animu sparkles*

XP I know, but De can put up with anything!

De would probably know, deep down, that Nick would be a good guy! Haha, De looks for the good in people~

Of course, of course.

Yes, yes~

True dat, hollllllaaaa~ XP (running thing in my family haha)

Hehe, of courseeee! (You may use it, just don't say you drew it. Don't worry, I trust youuuuu)

@LuckyMisfortune

you say you're joking but i don't think i believe you

At the moment, I'm honestly thinking that Nick would be closest to Orion in the group.

So what would happen is that De would probably try to be super friendly, but Nick would end up just saying all these things along the lines of "don't talk to me", "shut up", and "go away" until he gave up on 'persuading him to leave', so then he would try to just ignore him and walk away...

If for some reason De persists, he would probably start getting creative with insults.

either way it wouldn't really work

So then I imagine him eventually befriending Orion, then Orion introducing Nick to De and Nick's just like 'this is so awkward why did i ever ughhhhhhhH ; ////;' and yeah. xD

this is my favorite scenario rn

Ahaha, no, I would never. cx

like i have zero artistic ability and i'm not afraid to let people know

i'll definitely credit you when i put it on his page hehe <3

aww do like ~

and yeah same here l o l

goo' nightt ~

Apologies for the brief absence. An IC post was due yesterday yet the backup of the site prevented me from posting it.

I have only briefly skimmed over the discussion (which started, unfortunately, after I went to rest yesterday) and must say that I am very excited about it. However, I have not yet considered carefully and now have not sufficient time to do so; as such I am afraid I have nothing new to contribute for the time being. However, I do intend to go through the details of this discussion after I return home tonight and will then compile a brief explanation of ideas afterwards. For now though, I'll again have to apologize for the lack of recognition of any relevant information that I am expected here to respond do.

Meanwhile, I see that the PM correspondence between @LuckyMisfortune and myself has been mentioned here but no details given, and I decided this document that I conjured in haste might be of some use: it is an excerpt from "Inquiry into potential character relations in the "Barren Mother" Roleplay", a conversation between @LuckyMisfortune and @eheu via PM.

The content of the following passages have been taken out of @eheu's posts regarding the relationship between characters Emily Floyd and Dante Ricchi. In-character references are generally agreed on by both parties of the conversation unless otherwise indicated; though may be subject to change as events advance. Out of a want of time I have not yet consulted @LuckyMisfortune and have not notified her or requested her approval of the compilation of this excerpt in advance. I apologize for the less than decent carrying out of actions; and if any clarification should be required I welcome questions directed this way.

---

A first meeting staged in elementary school would seem reasonable - given the size of the town the number of educational facilities should be low enough for this, and that they later attended the same high school, to be a likely event. Emily could be said to have been a resident there for most if not all of her life, so the new-kid-in-town news would be enough reason for her to approach him even if the meeting didn't occur coincidentally.

Friends since childhood is a spectacular idea because it allows for exhibitions of the childish nonsense sides of both of their personalities, which are both significantly present. I personally imagine them to be the kind of friends that talk to each other in a way more dramatic than needed to be, and laugh a lot together. The presence of a protective side - despite more or less dormant in both of them most of the time - might prove material for interesting interaction later on when the story gets more involved.

Emily's connection to De would probably be more that towards a single person than to the group of friends as a whole - Pine has mentioned to me that Nick and Orion probably wouldn't be that fond of her personality, and Teddy and Matthias are rather detatched. The group's impression of her should be roughly neutral for the most part. Doesn't mean that Emily wouldn't proceed to go to great lengths in attempts to approach, attempt to befriend, and also annoy every one of them, though.

That probably means the attempt to persuade them to let her into their investigation will succeed only barely. I think it would be pushing it to say that De actively invited her to the discussion, since he would as well be much aware of the groups perception towards her, but as much as a mention of such an event - which would be quite likely to happen if these are the circumstances - would be sufficient to be taken by her as permission granted to peek into whatever they were doing, and hopefully De will be kind enough to go with the less-than-accurate claims of an invitation.

And yes she will absolutely adore De's relationship with Ross.

---

I'm not sure whether exactly De will actually find enough reason to go to great lengths in the request for her participation, especially out of consideration of the feelings of his other friends in the group, some of which - I would imagine - would prefer if people who they don't know that well to be in the mess. That is, of course, only my speculation out of my interpretation of De's character, and you of course have the final call as to De's eventual actions.

It seems, however, that there has been given sufficient information for me to start work on a first IC post, and I thank you dearly for that. I will be taking the premise that the topic of Helen's disappearance and subsequent death, the Barren Mother myth, and that he and his friends will be looking into it; and although an explicit invitation didn't occur, the discussion was taken by Emily to be as one. This information is for your reference and however De is to respond is up to you to work with.

(End of content)

Thank you.

Okay, okay.... (Yeah I wouldn't either, XP)

True, I do agree.

I do believe that's possible. Although, I'll need to think of something to do between Orion and De with that. Of course, I'll have to wait until @Ghost is back. *sigh* School starts in a few days, so yep. You'll probably see less of me, but I'll try to be on as often as I can! I sort of like the idea of his insults getting more...colorful. De could then be interested in him to a greater extent. But anyways that can just be part of him and Orion.

Like, for example, upon getting introduced Nick would immediately decide he didn't like De all that much. But De found interest in this boy from Texas and start to hang around him. Nick, who was annoyed by his presence, started to insult him. De, always the happy one, didn't get down from this and continued to try and befriend him. After many creative insults and time, Nick got used to him and just decided what would it hurt and they became mutual buddies and eventually friends.

How's that?

Hehe, I know~

Well, at least you are honest? XP Sorry, am I making it worse?

Cool, cool~!

Thank you! :3 You have no idea how happy that makes meh!

@eheu

Welcome! :3

Don't sweat it, I don't mind about you taking from the convo (They're your posts after all)
