The Arcana Academy | Survival Of The Fittest

Reed Harris

Reed has been waking up a little earlier than usual. He didn't know why. He thought it was because of those low lives kids moving into their academy but that wasn't it. Well, it was half of the reason. He got out of his bed then walked over towards his window and saw that it seemed like a storm was approaching. 'Ah, man.' He thought then saw that the skies became sunny and clear again. "Someone is using their powers." He muttered underneath his breath, causing his roommate to stir. Reed looked back at him then shook his head while closing the curtains and walking out of the room.

He only had on a pair of sweat pants as the girls from Arcana giggled and admired his body, he winked at them then proceeded on down the stairs. "Mr. Harris, is this a school or a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated?" Miss Morganna, Arcana's headmistress, asked. "Uhm..." Was all Reed said before raised her index finger up. "Don't answer that. Go put on a shirt sweetie. Okay?" She gave him a thumbs up then walked away. Reed sighed then immediately went upstairs and placed on a t-shirt that read in bold lettering 'Sexy And I Know It'. It was funny, at least he thought so.

Reed ran back down the stairs and entered the cafeteria, where they were having breakfast. It was easily noticeable of the school's division. The Arcana kids looked like sweet little angels and wouldn't harm a fly, while the Noctrem kids looked like the common criminal. A soft laughter escaped over his parted lips as he maneuvered his way into the line. He grabbed a tray and fixed himself some eggs, bacon and pancakes then grabbed an apple and a bottle of orange juice. As soon as he turned around, he accidentally bumped into one of the Noctrem students. "Watch where you are going, freak!" The Noctrem student said. Reed nodded his head then proceeded on to walk towards the side where the Arcana students were sitting.

"Man, is anyone else ready for them to finish building that school or what?" He spoke softly amongst the table he was sitting as everyone at the table agreed with him. He shook his head with a sigh and went on to eat his breakfast. Reed wondered what was in store for them today and knew it had to be something good.

Savannah Dorsey

She was still in mourning. Grieving the deaths of her best friend and the two teachers. She was hurt and didn't know what to do with herself. Savannah was standing outside on the balcony in the back of the academy as she concentrated on her emotions and it showed with the weather. Clouds swirled in, along with gusts of wind and soft rumbles of thunder. Her eyes told the story and the people from Noctrem knew she was sad. "I don't think the forecast called for a thunderstorm today." A gruff voice said, which made her turn heel with a smile. "Sorry." Savannah concentrated and soon, the skies were blue again and the sun was shining brighter than ever.

The male was Mr. Winston, Noctrem's headmaster, an African-American male, who has been with the academy for a long time. He walked closer to her and leaned down on the banister of the balcony. "I know you are hurting. We all are. We all lost something in that fire, hell, I lost my wife." He stated. "But we cannot let the students of Arcana see us down. We must remain strong." He then leaned up and hugged her. "Okay?" Savannah nodded her head into his arms then looked up at him. "Sorry about your wife, again. She was truly the Saint of Noctrem." With those words spoken, she stepped away and headed back inside.

She headed upstairs to the boy's dorm area and went to Dmitri's room, knocking on it lightly before entering. "Hey." She saw that he was still sleep and walked over then kicked his bed. "Wake up, Sleeping Beauty." She trekked over to the curtains and opened them, with the sun kissing her face and bringing light into the room. Her eyes rolled over towards Dmitri as she walked back over towards his bed, kicking it again. "Good. Now that you are awake, we can go and grab breakfast together." She smirked and headed towards the door. "I'll give you five minutes tops..." She opened the door and leaned against the door frame, eying him. "Don't keep me waiting." Savannah slammed the door behind and walked down the hallway.

She walked to the stairs and sat down on the top step, waiting for Dmitri as she eyed her wristwatch almost every second.

Amelia Cirrano

Amelia sighed as she slipped a gray cardigan over her shirt and heard a crash somewhere down the hall. No doubt, it was a Noctrem student causing another disaster. The Arcana students never caused any loud disturbances, and definitely not this early in the morning. The girl crossed her fingers, silently hoping that she wouldn't run into another one of the Noctrem girls as she exited the room. Not too long ago, she had been shoved rudely out of the way as soon as she stepped foot into the hall, since apparently, the Noctrem girl had the right of way, even though they were the ones who moved here.

"Come on, let's go!" someone whispered impatiently. Amelia turned her head and saw her friend motioning for her to follow. They were soon joined by two more Arcana girls, and they walked together toward the dining hall. Amelia knew all of them, but she hadn't been as close with all of them until the Noctrem students moved in. It was funny how quickly the school united under such circumstances. "Look, it's Reed Harris," one of her friends whispered, giggling as the boy passed by. She heard her friends fawning over him, but Amelia averted her eyes like any respectable Arcana student should.

When the four girls entered the dining hall, they took a deep breath before standing in line behind some guys from Noctrem. The girls were silent as they walked through the breakfast line, ignoring the few rude jabs they received from the boys. As soon as Amelia had gotten all of her food, she headed for the Arcana side of the dining hall. She wondered if anyone had actually put that into place, or if it was just a thing the student did themselves. She found herself in a seat at the edge, and she carefully started cutting up her pancakes when she heard Reed's comment from the other end of the table.

"Let's just pray we make it through another week," she mumbled to herself. Her eyes glanced across the room at the other students. They were awful, she knew, but there was something slightly intriguing about them, though she couldn't put a finger on what it was. Of course, she didn't plan on fraternizing with them anytime soon.

Dimitri Rylant

Dimitri was a light sleeper. It was all part of the package, he figured. He was used to it, though. Even among other Noctrem students, he was known for his ability, which some perceived as powerful, while others believed it was useless. A lot of the other guys called him Dracula because he didn't sleep much. He was either too busy "haunting" other people's dreams or just restlessly awake doing who-knows-what. Dimitri wasn't overly fond of nicknames, but he never made a fuss about it. The easiest way to get by in Noctrem was to avoid starting fights with other students, but if you had to fight, then you fought with all you had. Fear was your friend, and you had to use it against your enemies.

The boy managed to get a few hours of sleep before he heard the door open. He slowly opened his eyes, his back turned to the door when someone kicked the bed. Dimitri glared at the empty space in front of him before rolling over and sitting up. "What is your problem?" he grumbled. "You know, there's this thing called knocking." He rolled his eyes when Savannah said she'd give him five minutes. Ugh, you're killing me, he thought. Dimitri was used to getting ready in five minutes time, so it wasn't a problem. Still, he was certain Savannah was going to be counting the seconds.

Dimitri grabbed a black tshirt and pulled it over his head, in addition to some charcoal jeans. It's was basically the same outfit he wore every day. He was never one for bright colors, and as long as they covered the essentials, he really didn't care what they looked like. Besides, it's not like he had anyone to impress, right? He definitely didn't want the goody-two-shoes girls looking his way, so he was trying to lay low at this school, maybe cause just a bit of trouble every now and then, but the point was not to get suspended.

Dimitri purposely waited until what he thought had been four minutes and fifty-five seconds before leaving his room. He saw Savannah sitting on the staircase and shook his head. What was she doing, waiting on him like that? "Let's go," he mumbled, lightly punching her shoulder as he passed the girl on the stairs, assuming she would catch up by the time they got into line for breakfast. Dimitri couldn't complain about the food here; it was fine or even good. Plus, there was nothing they could do about being here. Although he wasn't as personally affected by the tragedy as other people from Noctrem, the least he could do was show a little respect by accepting the current situation.

Reed Harris

Reed's eyes fell upon Amelia as she entered the cafeteria for breakfast, along with her friends. Reed liked that Amelia because she wouldn't swoon over him at all - No matter what he did. He saw a few of the Noctrem guys give them catcalls and whistles as he clinched his fist, his friend, Samson, grasped his arm and shook his head. "Don't give them that satisfaction." Samson spoke staring as the ladies came and sat down at the table.

He snickered at her comment then went back to eating. Soon, he saw the Noctrem's headmaster come in with a smirk. "I swear, it's like heaven versus hell up in here. I lost my appetite." Reed said while getting up and dumping his tray, exiting the cafeteria, where he bumped into another Noctrem student. "It's like you vermin are everywhere." Reed let those words slip through his lips as the Noctrem student punched him back into the cafeteria.

Reed got up quickly and charged at the male, knocking him into the nearest table and giving him a hard punch on the face. The fight went on well over two minutes before Mr. Winston came over to break it up. "He started Mr. Winston." The Noctrem student said. "I did not!" Reed yelled through clinched teeth, still trying to get a piece of the Noctrem student. Miss Morganna walked through the door and widen her eyes at the sight.

"Unhand my student at once!" Her voice commanded as Mr. Winston did so then looked at her. "What is the meaning of this?" She questioned towards Mr. Winston while walking closer to him. "They were fighting. I had to break it up." Her eyes then scowled over towards Reed, asking him is that what had happened. Reed lowered his head with a nod then looked up at her again. "Reed, excuse yourself." Miss Morganna said then walked closer to Mr. Winston. "The next time something like this happens, bring my student before me at once. Understood? Don't get things twisted, this is still my school."

Miss Morganna spoke in a hushed whisper towards him with a stern tone. "Now, kids, classes are about to start in a moment. So, please, hurry up and eat and then report to class." Her voice roared throughout the cafeteria as she nodded her head then walked out. Reed was upstairs in his room, sitting at the edge of his bed, staring out the window. He was a little bit upset but Arcana students can calm themselves pretty quickly. He'd wait in his room until classes started. He smelt his blood through the thin as the corner of his eye was cut just a little.

Savannah Dorsey

Savannah waited and waited then jumped slightly when she felt someone punch her arm, out of instinct, she raised her fist up as well then saw that it was Dmitri and lowered it. She looked at watch and saw that he had made it on time but just wanted to toy with him for a moment. "Took you long enough." She said while falling behind him down the stairs, soon enough being by his side. As they entered the cafeteria and stood in line, they were by some Arcana males. "Would you like to play with me? I can show you where your spleen is." She smirked as the Arcana males stepped out of line.

She broke away from Dmitri for a moment to chat with her girls from Noctrem. Savannah hardly ever ate anything, when she did, she wouldn't eat much. Her eyes fell well over to Dmitri as he was doing god knows what then turned back towards her friends. "Do you like Dmitri?" Her friend, Sara asked her. Savannah looked at her with a raised brow and shook her head. "Dmitri is like a brother to me. Nothing more, nothing less." She got up from the table and was fixing to head out of the cafeteria until the double doors came bursting open. She yelped then stood back and watched the fight.

After Mr. Winston broke the two of them up, the Arcana headmistress came barging through the doors, commanding their headmaster and knew nothing of what was going on. Savannah folded her arms over her chest then looked at the lady. "Hey, lady know your place." Savannah spoke as Mr. Winston eyed her. "Savannah!" He spoke towards her through clinched teeth while eying Miss Morganna and let the Arcana boy go. She high-fived the Noctrem student then gave him a pat on his butt. She winked towards him then looked at Dmitri while exiting the cafeteria and stepping outside to get some fresh air.

That question played throughout that her friend Sara asked her. She laughed repeatedly at it then shook her head. Mr. Winston opened up the door and let her know that classes were starting soon and she needed to get ready. "Yeah, yeah." She said as she got up from the stairs then proceeded on inside. "Our class will be in the basement." Savannah raised a brow. She wanted to ask why but just remained quiet and walked past him. She caught up with her friends as they were already making their way towards the basement.

Amelia Cirrano

Amelia ate breakfast without a lot of talking. It was still a little early for her to be so energetic, plus she had been a little less cheerful ever since the Noctrem students came. She was trying not to let them phase her; she had always been on top of her studies and couldn't afford to let her focus slip. Amelia didn't finish eating all of her food. She just didn't feel very hungry. She stood not long after Reed left, but she was shocked that a fight broke out in front of her. The girl stood there blankly, though none of the other Arcana students seemed to know what they should do either. Fights were almost unheard of amongst them.

The tension died as Miss Morganna entered and told Reed to take a breather. Amelia noticed he was bleeding a little, and her expression tightened into a slightly concerned frown. Then again, if any Arcana student was to get into a fight, she wasn't all that surprised it had been Reed. For a "good kid," he was fairly rebellious, at least from what Amelia had noticed. She tried not to hang around him too much, since she wasn't sure if she even liked the guy more than she felt annoyed by him. Still, there was a sense of pride that came with Arcana, and that any Noctrem student would injure that pride was a personal matter.

Amelia wasn't the vengeful type, nor did she know how to retaliate in a way within regulations. She figured they would just have to work harder in everything and prove that good always triumphed over evil, in academics, service, skills, sports…everything. Amelia thought about the annual competition between the schools and wondered if it would still be the same this year.

She calmly exited the dining hall and started heading to the classroom. Amelia was an exceptional student, but she preferred not to sit in the front of the class. She tended to drift off into her own little world every once in awhile, and she tried to avoid detection when that happened. Amelia picked a seat on the far left side of the classroom, about halfway toward the back and sat down. She saw the potted plants on the windowsill and felt a pang of pity for the malnourished flowers. She glanced around to make sure no one was watching, just in case the teacher called her out for using powers, even though she was using them for good. Amelia twirled her fingers a little, and the flowers perked up, their colors becoming more vibrant.

Dimitri Rylant

Dimitri paid no mind as Savannah teased the Arcana boys. Savannah was always like that, and the Arcana boys were such pansies that they would be intimidated by a girl. Not to say that they shouldn't be, of course. Noctrem girls could do some serious damage. Dimitri picked out a few things for breakfast, just some oatmeal and fruit. He tossed a red apple in the air as he sat down at a table on the Noctrem side. If he didn't like apples so much, he might have considered pegging some lucky Arcana boy with the fruit- probably the boy with a shirt saying 'Sexy and I Know It.' How pretentious was that?

He shook his head and continued eating silently. Dimitri was anything but a morning person, though it could be argued he wasn't in a better mood at any time of day. It's not that he was always in a bad mood, but he was basically serious all of the time. For a Noctrem student, he was honestly pretty low-key. Dimitri wasn't normally one to start fights, but if he got involved, things could turn ugly very quickly. The boy was fairly spaced out, all the voices in the dining hall blurring together, though he thought he heard someone mention his name. However, when he turned back to Savannah, it looked like she wasn't talking to him.

Dimitri got up after he finished breakfast. He frowned when he heard their class was being held in the basement. Well wasn't that just dandy? He didn't figure there was much to be done about it, though. The fight broke out, but the boy didn't pay much attention. Not until the teachers got involved, then he listened to what was being said. Dimitri caught Savannah's eye as she was leaving. Did she really just mouth off to a teacher? He sighed but took her glance as a sign to follow.

As he walked out of the room, an Arcana girl stepped on his foot by accident. He shot a glare at her, and she cowered beneath his gaze, holding her hands up in a defensive position. "Watch your step, girl. You're lucky I'm too lazy for a fight right now," he hissed. The girl nodded frantically and turned to get away. Dimitri stuffed his hands in his pockets and started walking to the basement.
