Sylwyn Owenmoor was born 79 years ago to a city washerwoman. Her father had disappeared several months ago, when it first became clear that her mother's belly was swollen with child and not the portliness of age. By all indications, she was destined for a simple life, and a hard one. Uneducated and poor, there would be few opportunities for Sylwyn to improve her lot.

Or so one would expect.

Young Sylwyn proved herself a magical prodigy, rapidly elevated to local miracle status by the other residents of the slums. By 8 years old, she had attracted the attention of prestigious and well-placed mages from faraway cities. Her mother, stupid and loving woman that she was, gave her only daughter up to the hands of imposing men who looked down their noses at the callous-handed laborwoman. It was a chance for Sylwyn to scrabble out of the hole she had been born in.

The mages who took Sylwyn in expected to find themselves a blank slate, an ignorant child that they could raise as they please to be a powerful pawn in their own pathetic scuffles for power with wizards of other realms. To their dismay, Sylwyn proved herself exceptional in every sense, and she never forgot the way the mages had arrogantly treated her own mother like dirt.

By 13, Sylwyn had learned all she could from the pompous fools around her. After a particularly ill-advised attempt to solicit her affections, Sylwyn left her some-time tutors a hand and a trainee sorceress short. She went home.

With her unbelievable talents, Sylwyn had no trouble caring for herself and her mother. The two wanted for nothing, and Sylwyn's renown grew till hers was a household name in every corner of Aesthura. She cured diseases, slew demons and demigods, created works of beauty for the people. Sylwyn was the closest thing to a living deity the world had known.

As Sylwyn approached 40, she was unrecognizable as the dirty little girl she had once been. Tall and imposing, her skin, eyes, and hair pure white and faintly luminescent, Sylwyn was the image of a powerful mage. She had long since discovered the art of slowing the aging process, and turned her thoughts to grander problems than those of petty physicality. For the next 35 years, Sylwyn would almost disappear from the public sphere, retiring to a private life in her castle. She cited a desire to care for her aging mother, and though that wasn't a complete lie, few believed that was ALL the genius sorceress was doing.

In truth, Sylwyn devoted much of her free time to studying the Wyrd itself. She had some very interesting ideas...When she emerged years later to announce the construction of Scholar's Keep, people leapt at the chance to become part of whatever incredible enterprise had taken even the great Sylwyn Uwenmoor 35 years to bring to fruition.
