That Time the Demon Lord Killed our Party Leader: Gods
Heroes
01
A hero is a mortal of any race or standing who has been chosen by the gods to combat a great evil that threatens the world. A god chooses the mortal in question based mainly on how much the mortal in question worships them, or if the mortal's ideals align with their own perfectly or closely. Once chosen, the god will forcibly invade the mortal’s mind, whether it be in the middle of battle, or during a normal day. They explain why they have taken an interest in the mortal, and then offer their power in exchange for a promise to vanquish the greater evil present in the world. If the offer is accepted, the god will transfer itself into the weapon of the mortal, or whatever object they choose. So long as this object is on their person, they will have access to that god's power.
Partial Synchroniza-tion
02
Partial Synchronization is an ability exclusive to heroes, it allows them to partially synchronize with their patron god, and wield the weapon they would normally wield, or give a different effect depending on the god. This process also provides a boost in offensive and defensive power, with the drawback being that it steadily drains mana. If the hero is out of mana, the god’s weapon or enhancement would disappear.
Divine Synchroniza-tion
03
Divine Synchronization is the act of a god being in full Synchrony with their hero. It takes extreme training and discipline in order to achieve this form, but when done correctly, it gives a hero an extreme boost in power, and changes their physical appearance to be a combination of their patron god and themselves.

Legends claim that the ruins of Alkebu-Lan guard the Sacred Spring of Life, a small pool capable of bringing the dead back to life when offering their soul to the sacred waters. A singular clod of earth floats within the center of the spring, hosting a golden flower whose petals are capable of granting immortality. More importantly, it is said that the Divine Spirit Osanyin was born when the golden flower bloomed eons ago.

Where Wanga, the great healer, cures the ill through his divine powers of mysticism, Osanyin imparts the world’s leaves with magical properties and mortals with the knowledge of how to use them. In truth, each of Osanyin’s plants are a deadly poison capable of killing those foolish enough to consume them, yet he has taught those studying the discipline of herbal medicine how to coax poisons into medicines and vice versa.

However, the god is as arrogant as he is resourceful. In a time where mortals and civilization were mere fledglings cradled within the arms of the gods, Osanyin was tasked with imparting his knowledge to the various diviners and oracles hoping to bring back his life-saving skills to their clans. Believing himself to be the only one worthy of utilizing his special talents, the divine spirit turned them away, earning himself the ire of the gods. As punishment, the divine spirit was cursed to be incapable of harvesting herbs and personally brewing the potions he once crafted so effortlessly. Yet the divine spirit continued to rebel against the gods, refusing to acknowledge his wrongs. His hubris would become his undoing, leading to the loss of his voice. One god became furious with his inaction and mercilessly cut away at Osanyin’s body, leading to the loss of an eye, leg, and an arm.

Though he’d remain forever crippled after the incident, it was only through relying on the help of the diviner he’d once rejected that Osanyin managed to live another day. Having obtained the humility to understand that not only could he not help himself but he could never reach the entire population of the world’s ailing on his own, the divine spirit accepted the diviner as his first student, later instructing the man to spread that knowledge throughout Veita.

Osanyin’s voice never returned, and subsequent centuries of silent contemplation have led to a mellowing of his personality. Due to this unique circumstance, the God communicates with his chosen hero through a black-feathered bird who speaks to the hero as his proxy. This hero in turn acts as Osanyin’s eyes, voice, and hands, creating the solutions that the god has long lost the ability to make on his own. These solutions and salves act as potions which heal the ill, inflict targets with a vicious curse, or even as a spell in a bottle. As the magic has already been imbued into the fluid, the hero may also pass on the substances to other individuals to use should they desire to do so.

Osanyin’s hero isn’t given any weapons, but they possess a bottomless medicine pouch capable of storing any amount of herbs, medicinal ingredients, and potions, though it cannot store objects not related to the brewing process. It also contains Osanyin’s staff, a large metal stand with 16 birds crowning the top of the staff. When the staff has been placed down upon a plot of dirt, the hero is capable of imbuing plants with mana, increasing the effectiveness of their properties. In addition, any seeds planted within the vicinity of the staff grow to full maturity within a few hours.

Some poets regard him as a demi-god. Others sing of tales featuring the boy as the incarnation of a god much like Hou Yi. In contrast to the tales exaggerating his origins, his story begins with his mortal mother Deichtine, who had been granted a son by the god Lugh. The boy, Sétanta, was a child brought forth into the world through divine intervention and was blessed with many gifts. However, his body was nonetheless that of a mortal’s, and as if to state that his very origins were a taboo, the goddess of fate proclaimed that he would enjoy many triumphs but live with a premature death looming over his shoulder.

In spite of this ominous prophecy, Sétanta was a spirited young boy who enjoyed bountiful resources during his youth. He was fostered by many, such as Sencha mac Ailella who taught him eloquent speech, Fergus mac Róich who taught him how to protect the weak, and Amergin who educated him and raised him in his home alongside his own son Conall. As a result, he was raised to be honorable yet playful and a troublesome boy who easily becomes worked up in the face of battle.

Sétanta was very much a restless child, getting himself embroiled in various scuffles with other children or running into other troubles. Though by no fault of his own, the trouble magnet’s famed moniker of Cú Chulainn arose from when he had attended a banquet at his uncle Conchobar’s request. Though he had promised to follow not shortly behind after finishing up his game of hurling, Conchobar had forgotten to inform their host of Sétanta’s arrival, causing the child to be attacked by Culann’s guard dog. Seeing the devastation of Culann at the loss of his beloved hound, Sétanta offered to raise a replacement for Culann while guarding his estate until the dog was old enough, earning him the nickname the Hound of Culann.

The rest of Cú Chulainn’s life would be followed by similar bouts with chaos, whether it be due to circumstances or his own unsavory actions. However, armed with the teachings from his childhood as well as the martial arts that his teacher Scáthatch taught him, he triumphed over his adversaries just as the prophecy foretold. He is even capable of single-handedly fending off an army from invading his lands. However, he would eventually meet his demise, poisoned by breaking his taboos and speared through with three lances. Nevertheless, his resilience and pride as a warrior led him to tie himself to a stone so that he may die standing upright, and in honor of his accomplishments and spirit, the gods granted him true godhood as he drew his final breath.

Due to his long life as a warrior in the mortal realm, the god known as Cú Chulainn bestows his gifts to warriors of similar caliber. His chosen hero isn’t strong due to the god’s blessings but rather they possess the god’s blessings due to their power. In particular, Cú Chulainn seeks those with a strong lust for battle and cares not for their ideologies or what purpose they use his gifts for.

Cú Chulainn’s blessings seem minimal in comparison to that of most other gods’. His gifts also bear the bindings of strange oaths, such as being barred from consuming the flesh of a dog. In addition, rather than impart his knowledge and skill in martial arts in the form of a blessing, Cú Chulainn will personally teach and guide his chosen hero and have them develop said skills on their own. It is only when the hero faces a battle that both the hero and Cú Chulainn find worthy of his power that his blessings show their true nature. Much like the Cú Chulainn in legends, the hero becomes an unstoppable force capable of charging through entire armies. Their strength and speed increases by severalfold, allowing them to zip across the battlefield and leave only carnage in their wake. However, this state puts them into a frenzy, preventing their mind from processing anything except vanquishing their foes. Though the hero will not go out of their way to fight anyone who isn’t expressing the intent to fight them, they are incapable of paying any regard towards any potential allies or civilians around them.

During times when this frenzied divine synchronization isn’t enough to take down their target, the hero is granted permission to use Cú Chulainn’s spear, Gáe Bolg. Once thrown, the spear will always track down its target and cannot be stopped unless blocked by a weapon or mystical art of similar status. The most fearsome trait of the spear is its ability to branch out once it hits its mark. If the target does not die from being impaled, then it is almost sure that they will perish once the spines spread and pierce the flesh from within. This spear can only be thrown with the intent to kill and can only be used once per target. No matter how much time passes, if someone manages to thwart the spear, they will never be threatened by it again.
Incarnation of Fire

The first memory Kagutsuchi has is of his mother, Izanami, screaming in pain from the burns she had received from her newly born son. The heat that he had produced was so effective, in the end, Izanami would die of her wounds, but not before whispering to her baby child that she’d always be with her son in spirit. The day that was supposed to be filled with joy, turned into one of sorrow, and nobody was hurt more than Kagutsuchi’s own father, Izanagi, who looked upon his son with such hatred, that he truly wished to kill his infant son on the spot. Without saying a word, Izanagi cut the right leg, arm, and even eye with his sword, and before cutting off the baby's head, the goddess of grain, Inari Okami, stopped the senseless execution. Izanagi was imprisoned, and Inari took it upon herself to care for and raise Kagutsuchi. She attempted to have his limbs restored, but due to the weapon used to cleave off his limbs, the Ame no Ohabari, while the wound was able to be healed, the limbs seemed to be unable to be regrown or reattached, nor was eyesight in his right eye ever repaired. This however, did not deter Inari at all, she made him a peg leg, and raised Kagutsuchi to the best of her ability.
Despite only having a single arm, Kagutsuchi had a natural affinity for forging, and would build himself a prosthetic leg and arm to navigate the world more easily. When the gods started realizing how good Kagutsuchi’s work was, he became known to gods and mortals alike as the god of smithing.

Kagutsuchi is fire itself. He can create, and control fire as easily as breathing air, and is immune to fire, and with that heat itself. He can burn the impurities out of metals to ensure a perfect product, and can even go as far as to imbue divine energy, or curse into the weapons he makes. Above all else, Kagutsuchi’s hero must be a blacksmith before a warrior.
Kagutsuchi’s hero does not gain completely invulnerability to heat and fire, but rather a high resistance to it. They do however, gain pyrokinesis on par with Kagutsuchi’s, and his divine forging techniques as well. However, while pyrokinesis takes little mana to perform, using Kagutsuchi’s divine forging techniques to create or enhance weapons takes an inhumane amount of mana, which results in the hero only being able to do this at max once a day.

Kagutsuchi is not a combat god, therefore he has no weapon to give the hero so to speak. However if the hero truly needs something, he can allow them to use his personal forging hammer, which is similar to a war hammer when in the hands of the hero. Its original purpose was to store heat and release it when it hits metal to prevent it from cooling too fast, however this ability can be used for other, more destructive purposes.

When the Lord Archer Hou Yi bound his soul to a human shell and wandered the land of Veita, he enlisted the help of any who’d take his hand, whether they be mortal, divine, or even demonic in nature. Of this eclectic selection of people, the group who’d later become known as the Eight Immortals were the most distinguished. Though the eight gained notoriety as a ramshackle group with a penchant for drunken merrymaking which starkly contrasted against the stern and aloof mein of the emperor they served, their feats during and after the war became the foundation of Zheng Fa.

Han Xiangzi was the youngest of the eight, a newcomer who hadn’t even been born by the time Hou Yi first descended upon the mortal realm. Compared to his uncle, a cynical scholar who’d taken the young boy into his charge when the child’s parents passed away, Han Xiangzi grew up rejecting his uncle’s notions of studying for the sake of entering Zheng Fa’s budding political scene. Talented as he was, the boy preferred frolicking off into the wilderness, skipping class in interest of writing poetry in solitude or playing the flute with animals and weary travelers as his audience. Compared to his uncle and teachers who became red-faced in their attempts to convince the child to abandon his flute, the commoners delighted in the boy’s impromptu performances at the local marketplace. His music filled their spirits with levity, with some jokingly claiming that his jade flute was capable of bewitching even demons and monsters.

That jest spoken in passing would become the key to the start of Han Xiangzi’s journey towards godhood. Unbeknownst to the denizens of Yanguang Village, the heart of the nearby woodland sat atop the sealing stone of a chimeric beast defeated in an ancient time long forgotten by the people. Centuries of wear unleashed the archaic beast, leaving the villagers to its mercy. In a desperate bid to draw the beast away, the young Han Xiangzi attracted the attention of the beast with his jade flute and made his way deeper into the forest.

Fortunately for the young boy, Hou Yi had heard the villagers’ pleas and sent two of his trusted aides to dispatch the beast. On the fourth day of hiding in the forest while ensuring the chimera’s attention remained on hunting him down, the boy barely managed to make out two figures fighting the great beast before he collapsed from exhaustion. Though the two had long left by the time the boy woke up, the boy was quick to chase after the two Daoists the moment he learned of their identities from the concerned villagers.

Acknowledging the young boy’s bravery and determination, Lu Dongbin agreed to take in Han Xiangzi as his student. However, unlike Lu Dongbin who used the sword and Lu Dongbin’s own teacher Zhongli Quan who wielded mystical powers of transmutation, Han Xiangzi took their teachings and molded them into his own style. Eventually, his musical talents would grow to not only soothe the weary but also vanquish his enemies as the Eight of the Immortals.

Han Xiangzi’s hero is bestowed the god’s favorite jade flute, an instrument that has gained divine powers over the centuries and is now capable of teaching its user the various tunes that its original owner once composed. The jade flute itself is capable of utilizing sound-based magic, but specific songs are capable of causing the growth of red flowers whose nectar replenishes the mana of those who drink it. However, should the vines which carry the flowers be instructed to wrap around targets and be cut, seeds will burst out from the vines and burrow into the skin of the target. If these seeds are not removed by burning or gouging them out, flowers will bloom from their flesh, sap the target’s vitality, and transfer it to Han Xiangzi’s hero.

Han Xiangzi’s hero is also capable of calling upon the spectral vestiges of the various beasts that the god subjugated when he was a mortal. Unlike summons, these vestiges are incapable of thought, and their movements must be guided by the jade flute.

[Note: If you wish to pick up Han Xiangzi’s hero, please contact the GM/co-GM before you begin drafting up ideas for the vestiges. You start with four slots, but we have a few other specifications in mind.]
Goddess of Love, War, and Divine Retribution
Inanna

Zariel Zariel

Some called her the Queen of Heaven, others know her to be the goddess of beauty and sex. To all, she is known as the fearsome goddess of war, who demands to get what she wants whenever she wants it. She destroyed Mount Ebih and its inhabitants due to them challenging her authority, and when a mortal had violated Inanna as she rested, she destroyed countless cities in order to track down her attacker. While many consider her rage to be unfair and cruel, Inanna considers it to be the purest form of Justice, to destroy the guilty, to deliver divine retribution. Because of her mindset, it has caused her to clash with the god of Justice, Veritas, whom she views to have gone soft when it comes to the act of enforcing, and delivering Justice.

Inanna has a plethora of abilities, and not even her fellow gods truly know what she is fully capable of doing. She’s cleaved through the bodies of mortals and beasts with her bare hands, summoned storms and diseases to annihilate cities, and has even transformed mortals into waterskins as punishment for defying her.
Inanna’s hero can’t pull off any of those feats, but what they can do is nonetheless still impressive. By using a little bit of mana, Inanna’s hero can teleport anywhere within a 5 meter radius of themselves. If the hero is within 2m of an opponent, they can use Inanna’s fury, which is a powerful blow meant to send enemies flying.

When it comes to weapons, Inanna can’t stick to just a single weapon, so she doesn't expect her hero to either. Therefore, the goddess of love and war provides 4 of her personal weapons to her hero during partial, and divine synchronization.

Judgment Scepter:
A long, golden scepter with two intertwining snakes at the top. If Inanna’s fury is used with this weapon, its range extends to 3m, and it does twice as much damage.

Unbreakable Scimitar:
A large, rather heavy scimitar, with a golden handle. As the name implies, this divine scimitar cannot be broken, even under enormous stress.

Mountain Shield:
An extremely large and heavy shield that has a resistance to all forms of magic, and physical attacks. Attacks blocked with the shield are absorbed, and can be used to create a bigger shield.

Realm Destroying Axe:
A terrifying golden axe that can condense magical energy into its blade. When the axe touches anything while it’s storing condensed magical energy, it causes the surface touched to instantly crumble. The Realm Destroying Axe can only be used once a day.
Goddess of Discord and Rivalry
Eris
Image Reference:

Reserved By:
Spiderverse Spiderverse

As the hand that tossed the golden apple of discord, Eris is a goddess specializing in instigating fights between mortals and the divine alike. Perhaps a result of inexperienced parenting in the hands of Veritas who hid her away from her conniving mother, the goddess isn’t quite malignant but is nonetheless mischievous to a fault. Compared to her authoritarian mother and order-loving father, the goddess of discord is a free spirit who does as she pleases, when she pleases. Rules and the opinions of others matter little to her, and she is frequently seen purposefully testing the bottom line of everyone she associates with, whether it be through words or by getting her sticky paws onto an object they treasure.

In a similar vein, Eris cares little about the character of the hero she chooses to support. If her hero is like-minded, she enjoys watching the chaos that follows in their wake. Should the hero be particularly straight-laced, she makes it her task to torment and heckle them as much as possible due to finding joy in their reactions. However, when first speaking with the hero chosen in the current era, her voice seemed to be tinged with a strange touch of disappointment, though her sulky mood didn’t last for long.

Even if Eris’s hero was selected by Veritas rather than by Eris herself, the goddess nonetheless bestowed them with the knowledge of the tricks she loves to use. Her spells are capable of confusing minds, turning enemies on each other, and drawing attention towards a specified target whether it be an enemy or an ally. Illusion and Chaos magic are boosted by her blessings, and her spells may even provide a boon to the abilities of an ally in exchange for driving them into an enraged state.

Eris’s divine weapon is a strange pair of scythes titled Harmony and Oblivion which can be fused into a singular weapon. Harmony resonates with the bodies of those it cuts, forcing the struck target to pour more mana into their spells and arts. Though this results in their spells packing more power, it also exhausts them more easily. Conversely, Oblivion’s strikes create a dissonance within the target’s body. This dissonance results in any spells and arts cast to collapse and implode on the target should they fail to stop their casting in time. When working in tandem, Harmony’s increased mana usage results in a larger collapse caused by Oblivion. However, the two effects can only be applied simultaneously when the two scythes are fused together. When wielded separately, the effects override the other. Unfortunately, applying both is easier said than done due to only the inner edges of the scythes being sharpened. Due to this trait as well as the shape of the scythes, the weapon is prone to becoming stuck within the bodies or weapons of the targets it strikes.

God of Truth and Justice
Veritas

@Nano

Veritas, the god of truth and justice, is naturally strict and by the book. He believes in due process, and punishing those who have been proven guilty. However, compared to his younger days, Veritas has mellowed out, largely in part to having to deal with his own child. He’s a little emotionless, and sometimes simple concepts can go over his head. Still, his core values have remained steadfast over the years, reflected in his choice of the mortals he favors.

Veritas chooses his hero based on the tenacity of their will and the hero's ability to follow their code of honor. What is just may go against the general opinions of the populace. What is true may uncover an ugly web of horrifying revelations. Those who nevertheless persist in their pursuit of truth and justice—even if it means questioning authority—find themselves favored by Veritas.

Veritas is the god of truth and justice, therefore illusions and any visual distortion has no effect on his hero, the ability being appropriately coined “See no Evil.” Given the god’s penchant for favoring those with little to no self-doubt, the hero bestowed with this ability has their mental fortitude bolstered further, making it incredibly difficult to cajole and manipulate them. On top of that, the more immoral the enemy is, the more evil the enemy is, the stronger the hero’s attacks will be towards the evil they desire to vanquish.

Veritas blesses his hero with his tome of divine law, which has a set of unique magic spells. He also gives the hero his mighty whip blade, which glows when in the face of evil. However, while Veritas' hero is capable of accomplishing great feats, any and all tools at their disposal are limited to scenarios in which their goal is to triumph over evil. Against those whose hearts remain untainted, his hero’s strength wanes, the tome of divine law remains firmly shut, and the god’s whip blade turns dull and useless. As the hero’s powers are granted by Veritas, the powers respond according to Veritas’s moral values and ideologies. Should the hero view their enemy as evil but Veritas himself has judged the target innocent, his powers will fail to respond to the call of the hero.

Before there was anything, before time had meaning, there was nothing but silence, and darkness. But when Tiamat began to create planets, and El the stars, suddenly bright lights illuminated the darkness, and with them, woke up beings that were unaware of their own existence. Some violently sought to snuff out the light of the universe, while others were peaceful, and curious beings. El and Tiamat took it upon themselves to annihilate these beings, but among them was a being that radiated power unlike any other beast, but was peaceful and curious, having a humanoid form of a young girl. Tiamat would adopt the being, and name Qin, dubbing her the goddess of darkness.

Qin is far different than all the rest of her godly siblings, her power goes beyond just causing the day and night cycle. She has absolute control of darkness, and can and can use this power of hers to turn darkness into whatever she wishes, from physical projectiles, to barriers for protection. She can create clones of herself, and can nullify fire and light magic at will. Control over darkness is a gift given to Qin’s hero, but not her other abilities like cloning and magical nullification.

Divine synchronization provides Qin’s hero with a form that gains a significant boost in power in dark situations. The power of spells is increased, and the most powerful ability unlocked during divine synchronization is the ability to create, and control black holes. This extremely dangerous ability can easily destroy one’s own comrades, so caution must be taken before creating black holes. The hero also gains access to one of the cosmic beasts that Qin tamed.

Polux The Wayfinder:
A bipedal beast that while looks to be menacing and dangerous, is actually mostly peaceful. Its main purpose is to protect Qin’s hero. It uses its body as a shield to block incoming attacks.

In the beginning, there was nothing but darkness, and silence. But then, something happened, something with no explanation, nor reason for it to happen. Light appeared, and with light, came a rushing of water. The light came from El, whose light illuminated the darkness, and the water came from Tiamat, who used her power to shape the water into planets. Out of all the planets Tiamat would make, she’d choose one of them, and name it Vetia. It was upon Veita that Tiamat would create dragons, humans, elves, fae, and giants. She then gave birth to copious other gods with her mate, El, and allowed them to interact, assist, or even kill mortals to a certain extent, all to continue a cycle of life, and death.

The true power of Tiamat could only be told by her mate, El. She can alter terrains in order to benefit her needs, similarly, alter the weather, wield all elements and can even strip away the divinity of a god if she deems them unworthy of the title. These abilities just scratch the surface of what the creator goddess is capable of, and because of her overflowing power, most of said abilities aren’t accessible to her hero. What is given to her hero, is her terraforming ability, which allows her hero to create, or destroy terrain that is within the eyesight of the hero. This ability comes at a cost though, which is extreme fatigue if overused. The bigger the alteration is, the more stress it puts upon the hero’s body, and can cause bleeding out of the eyes if the hero is pushed too far.

Tiamat has never wielded a weapon in her lifetime, she has never needed one. So during partial synchronization, she transforms the hero’s skin into hard and durable scales. Divine synchronization causes her hero to transform into a dragon, all spells getting an extreme boost in power during divine synchronization.

(Note: If the hero is already of the dragon race, they get a boost in all dragon related abilities.)

The name of the great King Paimon is one that has echoes throughout the ages, a legend who inspires those who may have lost hope in themselves. He had statues that were made in his image, and epics that spoke of the fame and glory for all of his accomplishments. When the god of plague terrorized his kingdom, Paimon fought and won against Nergal with no outside interference, becoming the first mortal to ever beat a god in combat. Inanna would demand Paimon’s hand and marriage, and when he declined, was forced to do combat with the god of war, which he also emerged victorious. Not even Hel herself could best the Eternal King, and it was upon that victory that Paimon was granted a place among the gods.

Paimon himself was never a normal human, he was faster, stronger, more intelligent than everyone else. These physical attributes are passed down unto his hero, as well as his two signature techniques. Eyes of the Enlightened allows one to see into one’s future, and thus allow for one to adjust as needed. This technique can only be used during divine synchronization, and unless the hero can react to the attack, Eyes of the Enlightened will not automatically dodge the attack. Empyrean reinforcement is Paimon's other ability, and it allows one to reinforce any part of their body at any time, by focusing mana into a singular area, weapons also being an option to reinforce. Any attack landed while Empyrean reinforcement causes damage from within, making it almost impossible to fully block attacks dealt by it.

Paimon grants his hero access to his beloved Talwar, a one handed single edged blade that he used to defeat 3 gods with. The sword itself is rather light, and it’s because of this that the sword can be used to perform quick combos in rapid succession.

@OldTurtle

Ayao is one of the fiercest warriors of heaven, the goddess who controls the air and wind. She’s one of the many children of Tiamat and El, and is so stoic that some gods avoid her completely. She doesn’t interact with mortals much, but she’s often praised by sailors in order to not run into storms, and to have the wind be in their favor. Ayao respects those who train hard, and dedicate everything they have into a single field, to become the best they can be in whatever they may choose.

Ayao can control the air however she likes, which is much stronger than it sounds. She can use her control over air to fly, launch her opponents, blast rocks open, and can even rapidly remove, and reintroduce oxygen in a given area. Surprisingly, Ayao gifts all of these abilities unto her hero, however the risk with Ayao’s abilities is that they are extremely difficult to master, and have a high risk of harming allies, especially when it comes to removing oxygen.

During divine synchronization, Ayao’s hero gets to wield her gale blades, a pair of short swords that have been broken into several pieces. The individual can be brought together via Ayao’s air control, and can come apart in order to be reshaped into whatever the wielder wants.

Wanga, the carefree god, the slacker, the lazy one, there are many names that he has accumulated over the years. Despite his rather important role as a healer of gods, he prefers to spend his days basking in the sun, eating candy and napping in nice soft pastures. Despite his rather slothful nature, he doesn’t choose heroes who are like him, but rather people who are dedicated to their work as healers.

Healing magic is already something that exists, but Wanga’s healing spells go above and beyond what any regular mortal could ever be capable of. His hero is capable of fixing or the worse of wounds, relieving illnesses thought to have no cure. Even lost limbs are not an issue for Wanga’s hero, his healing magic can replace limbs with completely new, and functional ones identical to the lost limb.

Wanga has no weapon, nor offensive enhancement for his hero. Synchronization boosts the hero's mana supply to allow for more healing to be done, but instead of giving a weapon, Wanga gives his hero a key. Said key simply must be put into a solid surface, and twisted to open a portal to Wanga’s garden in the heavens. Anyone who enters has their mana passively restored, and wounds healed. The gate to the garden can be closed, and until the gate is opened again, heroes are cut off from the mortal realm. The gate can be reopened, and the destination can be anywhere that the gate has once been opened. However, Wanga’s hero cannot open the gate in the middle of conflict or battle.

Otherwise known as The Monkey King, Sun Wukong’s tale is full of strange occurrences and adventures to the point where even the god himself cannot seem to recall the authenticity of a handful of the myths starring him as the main character. No one is entirely sure of his origins, but legends state that during the time that the world was still being shaped and altered, a peculiar rock sat in the perfect location atop a mountain to soak up stray magical and divine energy. This magical rock would eventually give birth to the monkey most well-known for running around causing havoc within the ranks of the gods. This once nameless monkey was only christened with the name Wukong upon being freed from 500 years of confinement under the Mountain of Five Elements. While he’s grown much on his journeys and was even deified, the bold Monkey King never truly lost his penchant for causing mischief. Fortunately, the golden headband crowning his head prevents him from trying anything catastrophic.

As expected of an entity capable of causing a great deal of trouble for the other gods, Sun Wukong is blessed with immense power ranging from his incredible strength to his ability to cover great distances in a single leap. He can seal the movements of mortals with a single command, conjure magical barriers, and even holds the power to transform into 72 different animals and artifacts.

Despite his myriad of abilities, there’s only so much power that can fit into a singular mortal frame. Though none of his forms have been passed onto his hero, the hero who managed to catch the eye of the fickle Monkey King is blessed with the strength to carry even mountains on their back as well as the agility to easily weave out of harm's way. The hero’s power is nothing mystical, yet it is said that even an entire army of humans would have no hopes of defeating Sun Wukong’s hero if they do not have special powers of their own. In addition, the hero is gifted the Monkey King’s famed Ruyi Jingu Bang, a mystical staff that weighs 7,960 kg. It is capable of growing in size, shrinking down to the size of a needle, or even generating copies of itself.

The question is, what kind of mortal would Sun Wukong find amusing enough to bestow such gifts?
The Great Archer

A hero through and through, the domain the great archer was allotted by the gods is humble, yet he remains a beloved figure within his country of origin. Though he wasn’t a particularly outstanding god, Hou Yi is most famed for his choice to reincarnate as a human as a means of directly assuaging the mortals’ plight. Despite incarnating into a weaker form, Hou Yi was a man of immense strength and skill with the bow. In addition, he was a man known for never discriminating, heeding the call of whoever desired his aid. From the humble farmer troubled by wild wolves to a King calling for a brave warrior to defend his nation, Hou Yi embarked on each journey with equal determination. Despite being a mortal, his arrows always rang true, allowing him to slay the great serpents and demons plaguing the land. The most famous of his expeditions is the time he spent journeying alongside the great hero Solomon. Despite many of the demon generals boasting themselves as being as untouchable as the sun, Hou Yi nonetheless grabbed ahold of his bow and took aim. Each time, he asked for the demon general to surrender, shooting only when the generals mocked him and continued their carnage. Though his manner of sparing one of the generals became a point of contention during the war, his accomplishments are still celebrated to this day as a warrior who is not only merciful but even capable of shooting down the sun itself.

As a patron deity, Hou Yi looks for those of a clear mind and body. He admires warriors who are driven by a desire to safeguard and defend rather than a lust for blood. Though it is uncommon for the Lord Archer to find a mortal whose courage and honor that matches his own, those blessed by Hou Yi will find their arrow guided by the patron deity of archers during their greatest times of need.

To his chosen hero, Hou Yi bestows upon them his beloved bow made of tiger bone. Should anyone but his hero attempt to use the Tiger Bone Bow, they will find themselves incapable of drawing the bowstring. The hero themselves must also draw the string back with their mind clear of murky thoughts and intentions, or the bow will act as nothing more than an ordinary bow. So long as the hero wholeheartedly believes in the purpose behind why they are shooting, their arrow will always make its mark no matter the distance. The sole method in which to avoid the arrow is to block it, and Hou Yi’s blessed arrows are limited by the hero’s field of vision. In turn, Hou Yi’s hero is blessed with the Lord Archer’s Gift of Sight, allowing them to see across great distances with high visual clarity
Goddess of Grain, Protector of the Spirit Realm
Inari Okami

The spirit realm is a world that exists on the mortal plane, but cannot be seen with the naked eye. The beings of this realm are born from the natural energy of the world, condensed and given consciousness, some vastly more powerful than others. While these spirits are mostly harmless, some are dangerous, and can be taken advantage of by mortals in order to wreak havoc upon the general public. In order to sustain peace between the spirit realm, and to make sure that mortals all around the world have enough to eat, Inari keeps the spirits in check, and the wheat fields full.

Not much is known about the origin of Inari, she is not a child of Tiamat and El, but is still among one of the oldest deities to exist. She herself does not know how exactly she came into existence, but like many, theorizes that humanity's dire need for food is what caused her existence. She is worshiped all around the world, but nowhere worships her more than Yamato, which when considering that she is the patron god of the country, is a surprise to no one.

As a deity of grain, Inari blesses her hero with the ability to create grain based foods from thin air, at the cost of taking a little mana. But as the protector of the spirit realm, Inari’s hero can passively see, and communicate to any spirit, and even call upon them for assistance with no cost to mana. They can also separate their own spirit, and allow them to roam the physical world undetectable. During this however, the physical body of the hero is unconscious, and can be attacked or killed.

Inari’s weapon is bestowed upon her hero during partial or divine synchronization. Kogitsune-maru, or “Little Fox”, is a katana that was forged by a mortal blacksmith named Sanjou Munechika with Inari’s assistance. Sanjou named the blade after Inari, and gave it to her as a thank you for her assistance. Kogitsune-maru is perfect in size, weight, and length, and can cut through mostly anything, magic included. But Kogitsune-maru can also cleave through one’s spirit, causing permanent internal damage, and even death in some cases.

(Note: Spirit Cleave only works on weakened enemies, or no name npcs just know you can’t one shot bosses with this.)
Goddess of Volcanoes and Lightning
Tūtū Pele

@LazyDaze

When the first volcano erupted, it was on a relatively small, but inhabited island. These people watched as the lava flowed, destroying everything they had to offer, before quickly forcing most off the island. Most found safety by taking canoes out unto the water, where the lava couldn’t reach them. However, a small group of people found themselves back into a corner, unable to find safety from the lava via the ocean. As they prepared to succumb to the pyroclastic flow, a deity appeared before them. That deity proclaimed herself to be Pele, or Tūtū Pele for mortals. Without a word, outstretched her hands, and clapped them together. The lava stopped moving, and the volcano calmed itself.

Tūtū Pele is the god of volcanoes, lava, and strangely enough, lightning. She is passionate and powerful, but extremely jealous, and capricious. She can fully create, and control the flow of lava, and personally causes volcanoes to erupt. The ashes produced from the magma cause volcanic lighting to occur, which she can also control freely.
Tūtū Pele’s hero can create and control lava almost as well as she can, and can also control Volcanic lightning. However, the lightning can cause great harm to the hero if overused.

Despite her haughtiness, Tūtū Pele actually prefers hand to hand combat, so she grants her hero mastery of the Kapu Kuʻialua fighting style. It is a versatile martial arts form that emphasizes breaking bones, throwing, and even manipulating pressure points. Combined with lava manipulation, this alone would make Tūtū Pele’s hero a force to be reckoned with. But if push comes to shove, and fists aren’t enough, her hero can use her mighty sword, which is simply a rather large shard of obsidian with one end being wrapped in cloth for a handle. It’s a primitive weapon, but has the unique ability to store the heat produced from Tutu Pele’s power, and release it in one powerful strike.
God of Destruction
Shiva

Birth, life, and death is a constant cycle. What is born must die, and anything created eventually returns to the earth it was formed from. The god Shiva is an entity built upon this cycle. Where the gods El and Tiamat create, Shiva’s role is to destroy once an object or entity has reached the limits of its existence. Given the god’s role as the destroyer, many people fear the god. However, as his name implies, he is perhaps the embodiment of grace, benign, and can even be described as kind. In truth, the true nature of this god lies in liberation and emancipation rather than bloodshed. He simply believes that things must come and go, lest there be no room for the seeds of a new generation and the growth of the world. To be stuck in the limbo between life and death is perhaps the cruelest punishment of all.

Mortals will do well to fear the god in spite of his benevolence. Symbolized by the serpent hanging around his neck, the god possesses dominion over snakes, and the unruly locks of his hair can be thrown to the ground to manifest a vengeful entity that sets out to destroy whatever the god wills. Among many other powers, the most infamous of the god’s abilities is his third eye which remains closed tightly lest it turn whatever it gazes upon into ash.

The god Shiva does not favor any particular mortal. Ultimately, the god sees every life as equal, regardless of the circumstances of their birth or the actions they take. Despite this viewpoint, it is noted that he will still pass on a fraction of his power to a mortal during times of great unrest. Rather than choosing a hero he favors, the god is simply selecting a vessel to carry out his will: to correct the balance of the world.

As a means to carry out this sacred duty, Shiva’s hero is gifted with his Tandava, a wild dance utilized by the hero as a ritual to summon forth Shiva’s power. In the hands of the hero, it is a purification ritual which allows them to control the fires of creation and destruction. These rings of fire are then used to cut through and burn the hero’s enemies while they’re mesmerized by the hero’s dance. Depending on the style of the dance chosen as well as the mood it is performed in, the fires are not only capable of destroying physical entities but also leaving the physical untouched while destroying influences from within such as mind control and possessions.

During divine synchronization, the hero is capable of carrying Shiva’s Trishula, a three-pointed trident capable of cutting off heads with a single slash. Each prong represents one concept within the trinity of creation, maintenance, and destruction. The shape of the Trishula is also representative of the shape of chakra and allows the wielder to concentrate on the balance of energy within. This results in a heightened control over the body due to the synchronization of the hero’s body and spirit, allowing them to overclock their limits and deny interruptions resulting from pain and fatigue. Wreathed in flames and focusing entirely on vanquishing whatever it is that is disrupting the world’s balance, Shiva’s hero is certainly a force to reckon with.
God of Strength
Hanuman

From the circumstances of his birth to the events in his childhood, Hanuman was a mortal favored by and granted the blessings of several gods. As a result of these blessings and many promises, the god’s body is impervious to the effects of lightning, fire, wind, and water. In addition, his other blessings grant him immense strength, a powerful shout that can weaken the hearts of his enemies, change the size of his body, and the power to slip in and out of anywhere at any time.

Due to his tenacious body as well as his unique ability to appear where he pleases, the child had taken to pulling petty pranks during his early years. Though his mischief-making wasn’t as destructive as the likes of Sun Wukong or Eris, it is a well-known story that Hanuman happened to anger the wrong meditating sage, who then punished the child by causing him to forget that he possessed any of his powers. These memories were only returned in his adulthood, when he came to the aid of the god Rama during his time of need. As a result of his great act of service and devotion to the god, he was bestowed with immortality and status as a god himself.

Hanuman’s hero does not receive a weapon unlike most heroes, as his hero’s weapon is their body itself. Those imparted with the god of strength’s power possess a body impervious to the elements and incredibly tough. Though his hero is still susceptible to exhaustion and their body can be beaten down with physical impacts, their body is still resilient and capable of enduring a great deal of punishment. During divine synchronization, the hero is capable of further channeling Hanuman’s power, allowing them to further increase their physical strength as well as grow immensely in size.

Bastet

During an age where the world was still trying to find a balance among the living creatures that Tiamat placed upon Veita, many mortals cried out to the gods for a boon to aid in their survival. Some gods favored one race, while many others turned a blind eye to their struggles, believing in the survival of the fittest. When Bastet looked down upon the land and witnessed entire communities of mortals being devoured by all manners of terrible beasts, pity filled the goddess’s heart. Though she wouldn’t descend to the mortal plane to strike down the vile beasts herself as Hou Yi once had, she sent her children to the mortals to strike a deal: So long as the mortals gifted them offerings, they would drive the beasts away from their settlements.

And drive the beasts away they did. With their powerful jaws and perfect balance of lean muscle, her children were both far more agile and far more powerful than the beasts and drove them away with ease. Whenever the mortals under Bastet’s protection faced danger, her children would promptly respond in turn. During cold spells, they shared the warmth of their fur and body heat with the vulnerable. When Nergal sent forth a plague carried by pests such as insects and rats, the smallest of Bastet’s children hunted them down before the diseases they carried could spread. Though her children would soon depart from the land they were initially sent to protect, their pact with the mortals was never forgotten. So long as offerings were granted, her children would continue to bless the mortals with their presence, whether it be as a companion or as a guardian.

When selecting her hero, the goddess Bastet is not nearly as fussy as most other gods. So long as they’re someone who’ll treat her children with the respect and grace they deserve, she’s more than willing to bestow the mortal with her blessings. Though those of feline descent benefit more from her boons, Bastet’s blessing bestows her hero with considerably enhanced reflexes, the ability to completely silence their footfalls, a powerful jump, increased flexibility, the ability to run up or across even vertical surfaces, and a boost in their physical attributes. Her hero is also granted Bastet’s sistrum, an instrument capable of summoning her children. When the sistrum is shaken lightly, its soft clinking calls for the smaller members of the feline family. More urgent shaking results in loud jangling, causing the largest of Bastet’s children to arrive.

The most notable of the various abilities bestowed upon Bastet’s hero is Bastet’s curse. Though she does not provide her hero with a weapon, the hero gains razor sharp claws during both partial and divine synchronization. The wounds that these claws inflict are stricken with a curse which causes them to continuously bleed out. Ordinary magic cannot stop the bleeding or heal the wound, and the curse must first be cleansed and removed before the wound can be closed.

That Time the Demon Lord Killed our Party Leader: Countries
Land of Spirits
Yamato
Image Reference:
[1]

The land of eight million spirits. As the land housing the grand shrine of Inari Okami, Yamato is the country most closely intertwined with the spirit realm and various legends speak of humans who have been spirited away, never to be seen again. Some denizens of Yamato see these disappearances as people moving on to a higher plane of existence while others believe it to be malignant spirits stealing children away from their homes. Similarly, the treatment of spirits varies wildly from region-to-region. Some spirits are revered as gods while others are shunned as if they are the harbingers of a plague. Regardless of the differences between the cultures of each region, the people of Yamato are generally superstitious and live with the assumption that anything and everything can house a potential spirit. As a result, many of their structures are built into nature and seek to coexist rather than destroy, as they fear the potential wrath of the gods and spirits. It is also common for individual homes to contain a small shrine dedicated to the spirit they believe had lived on the land they had built their house upon.

Prior to the rise of the original Crimson King, Yamato was an extremely isolated country. Fearing that foreigners unfamiliar with their rules would carelessly desecrate the sanctuaries of the spirits and disrespect their boundaries, the country closely guarded its borders and would expel any non-natives the moment any were discovered. Though their manner of hosting lavish festivals in honor of the spirits resulted in the growth of a rich culture and a deep dedication towards perfecting various talents into an artform, their economy and level of technological advancement stagnated.

This seemingly eternal seclusion was broken once Emperor Hiragi determined that the period of unrest stirred by the Crimson King was a call for radical reforms. This decision would result in many revolts from lords who believed Emperor Hiragi was discarding tradition for the sake of greed. The pressure from the Crimson King’s invading forces kept the lords loosely united towards a common goal, but the moment Solomon claimed victory over the Crimson King, civil war would begin to ravage the land. Various clans fought for control over Yamato’s lands for a century until the goddess Inari Okami intervened by denying them bountiful harvests. The barren rice paddies and their lack of trade deals with foreign countries caused a great famine to sweep through Yamato, forcing the clans both for and against the emperor to form a truce. This finally began an era of healing and a departure from stagnation whilst still remaining faithful to their core traditions.
The City of Commerce
Pyla
Image Reference:
[1]

Despite its geography being characterized by deserts that stretch as far as the eye can see, Pyla is an economic powerhouse whose major city of Port Emsai is known by the moniker the City of Commerce. Though it shares its borders with six other nations, Pyla has managed to cement itself as a neutral party that all nations are granted free entry to so long as they follow the nation’s rules. Due to the nation having secured various major trade routes between different countries, few and far between are willing to offend Pyla in fear of taking an economic hit.

In its earliest days, Pyla was but a barren wasteland with little to offer except a safe haven for a handful of refugees from neighboring countries. Due to the lack of access to lumber, early settlers of Pyla quickly adapted to utilizing stone materials. What had once been developed due to desperate measures eventually nurtured a culture that would birth some of the world’s greatest architects. The various labors of these architects would eventually result in the creation of the nation’s magnum opus: Qusayr 'Amra, a grand palace chiseled from a singular block of stone. So long as the craftsman works with stone, many architects and sculptors alike believe that one can only call themselves a professional once they’ve witnessed the genius craftsmanship of the palace with their own eyes.

As stunning as Pyla’s architecture is, the nation’s true call to fame on a global stage is its abundance of resources found in its undergrounds. The country’s quarries had initially served the purpose of providing sturdy materials for housing but eventually revealed a large trove of precious metals and crystal ore. This abundance of materials made the cities built around these quarries popular with artisans.

Unfortunately, Pyla is also known as the City of Greed, and its patron goddess Eris has been known to incite such budding desires for her enjoyment. The nation is a hotspot for merchants and artisans, yet every person must watch their own back. Very little can be done if one finds their wares targeted by bandits or tricked right out of their hands by the glib tongues of experienced swindlers.
The Sanctuary
The Ancient Forest
Image Reference:
[1]

The birth of the god Faunas marked the establishment of the tree that still towers over the world to this day. The great tree’s roots run deep into the underground, spreading the god of nature’s influence throughout the entire forest.

The vast majority of the nation is covered in a dense forest which provides its residents not just shelter but also protection. Due to Faunas’s influence, the forest shifts and bends, blocking and misdirecting unwelcome travelers from continuing on into its depths. The nature of the forest has created a safe haven for elves, the fae, and many members of the dragon race. The forest listens to the wishes of the elves and politely bends out of their way, fae are capable of seeing the flow of mana in the forest to safely traverse through the dense woodland, while dragons are capable of flying over the protective barrier of the forest. Most other races are rejected by the forest, and those who are capable of braving the elements and skillfully navigating through the wooded labyrinth are quickly found by the moon elves who guard the forest.

Many of the Ancient Forest’s denizens live towards the middle of the forest, as the dense outer rings provide little to no sunlight. As a person travels deeper into the forest, the trees begin to thin and eventually reveal a land lush with an intricate system of lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. And at the center of it all lies the great tree that the god Faunas resides in. As a means to respect their patron deity for his continued protection, the people of the Ancient Forest dare not to trespass upon the sacred grounds of the tree. Only a select few forest elves who have gone through extensive training are allowed to approach the tree once every three years to perform a series of rituals expressing the forest’s gratitude for the god. Most of the elves and dragons of the forest reside within the various islands that form a protective ring around the great tree. However, some prefer more wooded areas while the moon elves largely reside in the outer ring due to their preference for dark spaces and their role as the guardians of the forest.

The poaching of dragon parts and the forest elves’ desire to remain secluded in their forests makes it a rare occurrence for a person to leave the Ancient Forest. As a result, very little about the forest is known to the outside world and the people of the Ancient Forest tend to live in their own bubble. The legends of more distant lands even state that the center of the Ancient Forest is host to a hidden paradise, though perhaps such a description is not wrong for members of the dragon race. Many will even go as far as to state that the Ancient Forest is not so much a nation as it is a sanctuary.
The Eternal Winter
Jórvík
Image Reference:
[1]

Jórvik is home to some of the hardiest species in the world, and the same can be said for the people capable of braving the harsh elements of the land. In the past, the nation was once host to a lush green landscape but was destroyed when it became the epicenter of the grueling war that The Crimson King waged against the world. The damage to the land caused what the people of Jórvik refer to as Fimbulvetr which cloaked the land in a bitter everwinter that still hasn’t subsided after centuries have passed. However, the Jórvik people possess a patriotic spirit 2nd to none and continue to faithfully toil in the nation watched over by their patron deity Sigrun despite their hardships.

To outsiders, Jórvik natives are a hostile bunch willing to do whatever it takes to sustain their nation, regardless of the means. This has led to a history of frequent wars with neighboring countries over territorial conflicts, and the nation itself is heavily militarized. As of recent times, Jórvik has signed a nonaggression pact with its neighbors, but they nevertheless keep their warriors well trained out of tradition and paranoia.

Despite the nation’s violent history, Jórvik’s domestic scene features surprisingly tight-knit communities. If the old man next door is having trouble chopping firewood, a younger neighbor will lend him a few logs. When parents are busy hunting or working their farms, the friendly auntie living by the lake offers to watch over the children for the day. As people who understand each other’s hardships, they readily support each other during poor hunts and harvests in order to survive in such unforgiving environments.

In terms of agriculture, Jórvik is primarily known for raising a specific breed of sheep native to their lands. Their wool is famous for being soft yet durable, and the country has many craftsmen skilled in the production of Jórvik's traditional weave. Though foreigners only covet the sheep's wool, no part of the sheep is wasted in Jórvik, and its blood is considered to be highly nutritious. A few wheat fields exist in the warmer parts of Jórvik, but the majority of the nation's crops are of a hardier variety and tend to be bitter and aren't particularly enjoyed by foreigners.
Birthplace of Blackpowder
Zheng Fa

When Huo Yi departed from Solomon’s side, he settled down in the lands directly east of the fallen Crimson King’s domain. The war was finally over, yet the god turned mortal believed there was still much more to accomplish before he could leave his people with peace of mind. How could he ensure their survival even if the lands they cultivated turned to dust? What legacy could he leave behind so that his people would never be led astray? With these questions in mind, the great archer called on the land's brightest minds and those bold enough to challenge the questions he asked of them.

A silkweaver showed off how she counted her profits by writing on a piece of cloth, and a carpenter refined her idea to produce paper. A young scholar tired of writing a thousand strokes carved words into a series of wooden blocks, creating the basis for block printing. A merchant fashioned a tool out of lodestone and bronze which his son would later call a compass. Finally, Zheng Fa’s claim to fame, gunpowder, was the brainchild of an old general who'd served directly under Huo Yi during the war. These four innovations, referred to as the Four Great Inventions, displayed the ingenuity of mortals and their ability to build their nation’s future with their own hands. It is said that after the mortals had passed Huo Yi’s trials and written the doctrines that their nation would govern itself upon, the great hero passed away in his sleep, ascending back to the heavens from whence he came. Despite assuming the position of Zheng Fa’s patron deity, he is notably stubborn in his desire to allow the nation’s history to play out with little to no divine intervention. However, he never abandoned his people, subtly guiding the nation’s rulers in their dreams in times of need.

Due to this manner of rarely speaking to those outside of Zheng Fa’s royal family, Zheng Fa natives believe that the nation’s rulers are descendants of the god. No one, even members of the royal family themselves, knows whether the blood of Huo Yi runs in their veins or if it is yet another of Zheng Fa’s many legends. Said legends have varying degrees of validity, such as the legend regarding Huo Yi leaving behind a guardian that the people have never seen hide nor hair of. Still, the people greatly revere Huo Yi and his supposed descendants, firmly believing that Zheng Fa’s rulers have the foresight to lead their nation down its best path, regardless of how questionable their choices may seem to outsiders.

Though Zheng Fa is most famed for its silk products, gunpowder, and intricate jewelry carved from fine jade and embellished with skillfully worked gold, its natives are also noted for being extremely superstitious. Where the people of Yamato believe that spirits exist everywhere in nature, the people of Zheng Fa fear the wrath of the dead. The nation has made many breakthrough technological advancements, yet its core philosophies remain married to ancient tradition and beliefs. As a result, ancestor worship is of great importance, and their achievements are always dedicated to their forefathers. Incidentally, saying unsavory things about someone’s close family or ancestors is typically subject to the child’s parent instructing them to find a stick for said parent to beat the child’s sorry behind with.
The Shoal of All Things Arcane
The Isles
Image Reference:
[1]

The Isles, otherwise known as The Shoal of All Things Arcane is an archipelago known not only for its unique architectural style but also for its status as the magical capital of the world. Though popular among tourists for its sights and oddly warm beaches considering its proximity to Jórvik, would-be scholars flock to the main island in hopes of grasping the opportunity to worm their way into one of The Isles’ many prestigious magical institutions. It is said that many of history’s breakthroughs related to magic were discovered within their halls, and only The Isles possess an unrivaled collection of ancient artifacts available to senior students for hands-on research.

The nation is also home to the Well of Origin which is said to have once been the ancient laboratory of a god-like being blessed by their patron goddess Tutu Pele. It is unknown how or why it does so, but the Well of Origin is famed for occasionally producing powerful artifacts, oftentimes made with rare or unknown materials. Due to its cultural significance as well as its contributions to many of The Isles’ arcane advancements, it is protected as a national heritage site and trespassers are heavily punished. Unfortunately, its true origins and purpose are unknown, as those bold enough to descend into the dark depths of the well never return. Those who carelessly call upon the well’s power or attempt to cheat it are said to become afflicted with a deadly curse three days after departing from the island.

If the legends surrounding the Well of Origin aren’t enough to deter greedy prospectors, then the island it’s located on is sure to. In fact, many of The Isles’ islands are marked as hazardous territory full of strange monsters and environments capable of shoving ignorant trespassers into an early coffin. Back during an age where knowledge on magical artifacts were scarce, many of the artifacts produced by the Well of Origin were abandoned for nature to reclaim or discarded haphazardly. Unbeknownst to the ancient people of The Isles, these artifacts would gradually assimilate into the areas they were discarded in, transforming the terrain as well as anything living within it. As a result, many of the world’s strangest beasts and plants can be found on these islands.

Only experienced explorers authorized by The Isles’ royal family are permitted to survey the cursed islands of The Isles, but the penalty for trespassing onto the cursed islands are surprisingly lax save for the island hosting the Well of Origin. In a sense, the islands themselves are seen as punishment enough, as if they aren't dead, they'll certainly come back with a curse or two in tow.
The Fallen Empire
Olrodian Empire

[1]

The blood of the fallen polluted the land with anguished cries, but humanity strove to rise from the ashes once again. Solomon planted Jupiter’s banner in the heart of the battlefield upon which he achieved his first major victory, and the architects built a new monument in honor of their patron god. It was a symbol of their victory, as well as a promise to themselves that there was a new age to come. The Bastion of Hope remains standing today in all its resplendent glory, yet for many people, the national symbol which once caused them to puff up their chests with pride now serves as the throne of a ruthless man who provoked their patron god into forsaking them.

Outsiders wag their tongues, judging that it was only a matter of time that Olrodia would fall into moral depravity. Perhaps Solomon envisioned a future in which his country stood as a stalwart bastion that would stand strong even in the face of another conqueror threatening justice and order. However, all that remains of an old hero’s dream is a well-oiled machine built to devour the world in its entirety. Unlike the artisans of Zheng Fa, Yamato, and Pyla, the empire is built upon the concept of efficiency. Its most important governmental buildings and theaters are ornate, yet the cities of the empire themselves are structured in a way such that it is easy to evacuate in the case of emergency. Its many aqueducts and public facilities were also placed in a way that reached an equilibrium between labor and material costs while simultaneously built and situated so that it would not cause damage to the city should any of them fail. Most importantly, the secret to its military might exists in its streamlined way of training their armed forces as well as mass producing weapons that lack the ornate quality of those found in neighboring nations but are twice as sharp and durable.

Oh, how Olrodia has fallen.

Five words make frequent rounds amongst gossip circles whenever a particular name steeped in infamy is mentioned. However, the people of Olrodia have a different story to tell. Is Tiryan a hero, or is he a sinner? Many blame the emperor for causing Jupiter to cast them away and refer to him as a tyrant, but just as many hail him as the savior who’ll rid the continent of strife. When the young Tiryan first sat himself upon the throne of a nation on the verge of collapse, his subjects bemoaned the inevitable end of their beloved country. Gone was the glory of Solomon’s reign, and any hopes of restoring Olrodia’s honor were nothing more than a pipe dream. No one expected Olrodia to turn into the sprawling empire it is at present, ripped from the hands of their rightful rulers by none other than Tiryan himself.

For every supporter, Tiryan faced another who opposed him as a tyrant who’ll destroy the land beyond repair despite his promise for peace after unification. However, with each rebellion quelled and every traitor publicly executed to discourage others from doing the same, none dare to voice the curses that they chant in their hearts. They dare not even whisper their dissent to their closest neighbors, for the walls have ears, and it’s only a matter of time before Tiryan’s men catch wind of your traitorous words.
People of the Serpent
Aztlán
Image Reference:
[1]

Much of Aztlán is covered in wide stretches of deserts, but compared to Pyla which chose to adapt, Aztlán moved away from the dry north-western frontier. Though the desert does host small pockets of communities, the desert dwellers of Aztlán seldom make contact with the rest of the nation due to the mountain range separating the desert region from the tropical dry forests and marshlands. Due to the height and perils present in the mountains, it is easiest to travel around the mountain range either through the southern tip or by cutting through Alkebu-lan. As a result, travel between the two areas is infrequent at best.

The vast majority of Aztlán’s denizens live in the tropical dry forests of the region due to living conditions being far more favorable. Though the area experiences far more rainfall than the north-western region of the country, the tropical dry forests of Aztlán are characterized by distinct dry and wet seasons. From mid-summer to mid-autumn, those who live in the dry forests are able to reap the benefits of the rain. However, the rest of the year tends to be arid, oftentimes experiencing weeks with little to no rain. As a result, most major cities tend to be built close to the many rivers and lakes running through the landscape of the country.

The capital city of Aztlán,Tlaxcala, is built on an island centered within Aztlán’s largest lake. Though the people of Aztlán had initially built their city and a grand temple dedicated to their patron deity Quetzalcoatl within the lake due to viewing it as a sacred site close to the gods, the lake eventually became far more than a spiritual symbol. For the Aztláns, it is difficult to grow crops during the long dry seasons. In order to adapt to the arid climate of the land, the people began to build floating gardens atop of rafts within their lakes in order to farm directly above the water. As a result of the sustainable and bountiful yield, this practice is still widely utilized throughout the nation.

Compared to their neighbors, Aztlán is a country that doesn’t have a particularly profitable source of exports. However, trade relations between Aztlán and the Kingdom of Kalmar have been established for centuries. Perhaps due to the ease of travel between the two nations, the two frequently exchange produce, and it appears that Kalmar’s citizens are particularly fond of a specific variant of chili pepper unique to Aztlán that contains the perfect balance of spice and flavor without turning up the heat above what the people of Kalmar can handle. Relations between the two nations have remained friendly even with the rise of Tiryan, and it’s been noted that the ruler of Aztlán, Cuicatl Papaqui is particularly close with King Brenton Cynewulf of Kalmar.

Alkebu-lan

Who was the first mortal whose feet were allowed to touch down upon the precious soil that Tiamat tilled for Vetia? The progenitors of the races of Veita are names long lost to time, but historians insist that a collection of vague clues hint that life originated in the region now known as Alkebu-lan.

More importantly, Alkebu-lan is the location of the ancient city of Iferti. Compared to the worn down primitive clay houses of other ancient ruins,Iferti sits atop Mt. Yakou and hosts a city full of buildings with a unique architectural style found in no other region. Though some parts of the city show signs of overgrowth, the buildings and city structure itself shows little to no wear, as if protected by some divine force. Stranger yet is the fact that though the mountain is easy to climb due to its wide base and lack of steep slopes, the middle of the mountain is bitterly cold while its flat peak has a temperate climate expected of far lower altitudes. Despite the ancient city ruins seeming like a paradise, it is unknown why it was abandoned and many of its secrets have yet to be discovered. Those that dare to venture in too deep often find themselves taking a wrong turn before blacking out and finding themselves back at the base of the mountain with a foggy memory.

Aside from being a hotspot for historians, Alkebu-lan features the continent’s finest healers. Their patron deity is the healer Wanga, and the people hold in him high regard for the knowledge that he has regularly imparted on his people. Though their patron deity is notorious for his indolent and carefree nature, the healers of Alkebu-lan are dedicated in their studies, whether it be in terms of refining the applications of their healing magic or more traditional medicine. Widespread, endemic diseases are rare in the region, as the nation does its utmost to keep careful records of every kind of disease they come across as well as the countermeasures to take when the signs of a dangerous disease is seen in a community. Due to these detailed records, many countries find themselves sending an envoy to Alkebu-lan’s doorstep when encountering some terrible disease.

Fortunately, Alkebu-lan doesn’t find themselves being particularly indebted to their neighbors in turn. With a gulf that gives them access to the bounty of the sea as well as arable land and temperate climate that allows for a diverse range of crops, the nation is fairly self-sustaining. Though it has been noted that a good deal of precious metals exist buried in their land, many of these proposed sites are near areas and structures of cultural significance. As a result, most of its exports are of more common goods such as produce and pottery.

The Rolling Plains
Breuci

Breuci is the land of rain and green pastures. The showers themselves are light, seldom ever developing into a full blown thunderstorm, but as many as three days of the week might see rainfall. Traveling through the nation is rough to those ill-prepared for the frequent rainfall, but the weather is hardly ever deadly and the chances of being swept away by a mudslide are unlikely. In fact, you’re more likely to get in trouble by being unfamiliar with the nation’s customs rather than their environment.

Hunters would do well to keep away from Breuci. There’s no harm in hunting elk or hares, but only misfortune awaits those who dare strike down the walking balls of fluff lazily rolling around the nation’s hills and cliffsides. Breuci’s sheep won’t flee from the presence of humanoids, and some will even approach in search of a tasty treat to eat. However, if a foreigner dares to betray this trust, it’s only a matter of time that just about every citizen of Breuci in the vicinity somehow hears about your heinous deed. They aren’t considered a sacred animal—that title belongs to Brigid’s cows—but they’re a beloved and highly protected national symbol. If you aren’t given time in prison or required to fork over a hefty fee, the dirty looks and denial of service the citizens give you will be enough to drive you out of the country.

This manner of spreading the information is due in part to the Aes Sídhe, creatures similar to the spirits of Yamato or the Fae of the Ancient Forest, but not quite. Some secretly walk in the midst of Breuci’s sheep, while others like the Bean Sídhe watch over households, wailing and keening when the death of a member of the house they love is imminent. Regardless of whether the Aes Sídhe is a protector spirit or one known to cause mischief, the people of Breuci are generally respectful of the Aes Sídhe, steering clear of their domains while also leaving small offerings upon their windowsills for those who decide to visit at night. Though natives are aware of the distinct signs that the Aes Sídhe leave when marking their territory, foreigners must be cautioned to take heed of pixie rings and the like, lest they fall prey to a terrifying curse.

Breuci’s economy is largely run on agriculture, especially cattle farming. The abundance of sheep makes for high quality weaves and other wool products, and the nation’s sacred animal, the cow, provides the nation with a multitude of dishes and baked goods from their produce. As a land blessed by the goddess Brigid, their livestock seldom fall ill to disease, and many farmers pray to the goddess for the continued health and quality of their livestock. Due to the major importance of domestic animals such as sheep and cows, Breuci has even dedicated a stretch of land specifically for Brigid’s personal cows to graze in. Only those with express permission from the goddess may enter, and those that trespass are often given lifetime imprisonment.
Land of Reincarnation
Bhārata

[1]

With dry heat waves in the summer that lead into frequent monsoons during the fall and end with cool winter months, Bhārata experiences a range of temperatures and weather patterns. Their agriculture is well-adapted to the shifting seasons, with legumes cultivated during drier months and rice, wheat, sugarcane and other produce that can be grown in season before being dried and stored for the winters. Regardless of the concessions that their farmers have made, Bhārata’s produce is primarily grown to sustain itself. Their major exports focus on the mining of minerals and gemstones, which they possess an abundance of. They mine a mix of precious metals and jewels, but they’re most famed for being the producer of the world’s highest quality diamonds and largest diamond veins.

Unsurprisingly, these mined products have become central to Bhārata’s culture, especially in terms of gold. Aside from being a symbol of status, gold is considered to be auspicious and is frequently used to coat objects utilized in rituals and ceremonies. Gold bangles are a popular accessory in Bhārata, but the nation has cultured many skilled artisans capable of molding gold into layered and intricate necklaces and earrings with an even higher level of craftsmanship than Zheng Fa’s jade accessories.

As followers of their patron deity Shiva, the majority of Bhārata’s citizens are stark believers in the concept of cycles. What comes around goes around. Good deeds are returned in full while malicious actions are eventually punished. Despite this idea of karma, or perhaps due to its existence, it is difficult to move up and down the caste system in Bhārata. Someone born into poverty will more than likely remain poor their entire life, while a rich man will likely live a comfortable and wealthy life. Those who suffer might evoke pity, but there’s ultimately little that those around them will do aside from offer some words of comfort.

To the people of Bhārata, reincarnation is a certainty rather than a simple belief. Regardless of their neighboring countries’ skepticism, they believe that the soul is immortal and death is merely a shedding of the mortal shell in preparation of the divine guiding them to their next. This shell could be that of an ant crawling on the ground or the future king of the nation. Whatever their lot in their next life is, they believe that they are given a new incarnation appropriate for the accumulation of the good deeds (or lack thereof) in their previous life.
Land of Chivalry
Kingdom of Kalmar
Image Reference:
[1]

The Kingdom of Kalmar is ordinary in all things except chivalry. They lack the sophisticated magical institutions of The Isles, and their craftsmanship isn’t particularly special compared to the architects of Pyla or the metalworkers of Yamato and Zheng Fa. Their sole call to fame in terms of exports stem from the alonberry, a yellow fruit with a crisp and refreshing taste. Though the fruit can be consumed right off the tree, many Kalmar citizens enjoy juice made from the fruit and the wine brewed using alonberries and honey is considered to be a local specialty.

It is said that the exquisite taste of the alonberry was a reward from the nation’s patron deity for their founding hero’s bravery in the fight against the Crimson King. In addition to the alonberry, the god Cocidius gifted the nation with the sword Excalibur which has since been passed down to all succeeding kings of Kalmar. Though this ancient relic seems like little more than an ornate sword at first glance, it has become a vital part of the kingdom’s succession rights. Any ordinary person is capable of taking the blade and swinging it, but the sword only gives off a brilliant glow in the hands of one of Issac Cynewulf’s descendants whose heart possesses a clear conscience. When the power stored in the sword is unleashed, it releases a bright flash of light capable of blinding those who gaze upon it and the wielder is granted the ability to heal at a rapid rate.

Although the Kingdom of Kalmar has never been one for starting skirmishes, they are noted as being a nosy nation incapable of rejecting the voices of those in need. It’s a wonder as to how a kingdom run by idealists has managed to stay afloat for so long, but perhaps it is due to their surprisingly self-sustaining economy as well as the strength of their armed forces. Some join Kalmar’s knighthood for money or status, but many knights pride themselves as chivalrous protectors of their nation and neighboring states. They are furthest from the conflict currently afflicting the continent, yet its people have nonetheless rallied in support of their king’s decision to lend his aid in the fight against Tiryan.

Despite being a monarchy, Kalmar is run by a council of twelve knights, each a commander of their own unit as well as an advisor to the king. The governance of the kingdom runs on a system of checks-and-balances, and each house is separately given jurisdiction over their own region, though they must ultimately report to the king before any major decisions are made. The current council is led by King Brenton Cynewulf who strives to end Tiryan’s reign out of respect for the will of his late father, Henry Cynewulf.

That Time the Demon Lord Killed our Party Leader: Combat
Magic
01

In simple terms, magic is using the mana within oneself to perform what can only be described as to be a miracle. There are 6 main elements of magic;
  • Fire
  • Water
  • Earth
  • Wind
  • Light
  • Dark
When a person is born into this world, they are naturally more compatible with one of the 6 elements. While it is possible for anyone to learn any type of magic, they will have an easier time learning the type of magic that they are most compatible with. Some people are born with no affinity for the 5 elements, but are gifted with a unique form of magic the likes of which have never been seen.

As one progresses through their magical journey, so does their ability to wield magic. Through combination of magic, or advancement through a single element, more forms of magic are born.

Fire variants:
Lightning magic

Plasma magic

Lightning + Metal= Magnetism magic

Water variants:
Ice magic

Mist Magic

Sealing Magic

Bubble magic

Wind+Water= Weather magic

Earth variants:

Golden flame + black flame= Flames of Twilight
Arts
02
Arts are a more physical application of magic used by warriors of all shapes and sizes. At its core, an Art is simply imbuing and condensing magic into a physical object, and performing an attack. Despite this technique being commonly used with weapons, the act of imbuing magic into physical objects can be done to anything, even one’s own fists or feet. Some people have even gone as far as to develop techniques that make them invisible. The possibilities that one can achieve with just Arts alone is nigh endless.
Incantations
03
Incantations are a technical and complex way to use magic, used almost exclusively by mages.
While Arts are limited to needing a physical form to imbue magic into, Incantations have no such limits. Incantations focus their mana into a medium, usually a staff or wand, and then push it outwards in order to perform magical attacks. The main advantage Incantations have over Arts is that they can be used from a range. However Incantations are far more complex than Arts are, and preparing an incantation can take much longer than it would an Art. The time needed varies on the level of incantation being used.
Summoning Magic
04

Summoning Magic is an incredibly niche form of magic that is rarely practiced due to how difficult and expensive it is to perform.
In order to use summoning magic, one must bind the spirit of a being into an item known as a soul stone. Once the spirit has been captured and named, the owner can use their own mana to bring the spirit trapped in the soul stone out with a physical form. The summoned creature will steadily drain their masters of mana in order to keep up their physical form. If the summon sustains too much damage, they’ll return back to their spirit gem for a 24 hour recovery process. In the event that a soul gem containing a spirit is broken, the spirit that was contained will be lost forever.
(Note: the larger the summon is, the more mana it takes to sustain them.)
Dragon Magic
05
Dragon magic is a form of magic that can only be used by those who have dragon blood flowing through their veins. It defies the rules of the normal magic system, and is unique to each dragon. Regardless of what the effects are, generally speaking, dragon magic is far superior than the magic most races are unable to use. However, Dragons use up an exponential amount of mana to use dragon magic, so most dragons prefer to use brute strength rather than spamming their destructive magic.

That Time the Demon Lord Killed our Party Leader: Races
Humans
01
The human race is always looked down upon. They are not as physically strong as the giants, nor are they as magically attuned as the Elves and Fae. What makes humans special is their will to survive. They’ve spent hundreds of years trying to survive against races that could control the earth under their feet, rain fire down upon them, and even slice their throats without them knowing. Yet despite all of these things, Humans still persevered, and were able to use technology to not just make up for their weaknesses, but to keep them respected by all the other races. Humans usually live up to around 70+.
Giants
02
Most Giants stand 5 meters tall, and pride themselves on their physical strength. Not only are they physically strong, but are capable of wielding extremely powerful and dangerous earth magic. In the past, Giants would live in mountainous areas, away from smaller mortal races in order to prevent any accidents from happening. But when Solomon founded his kingdom of Olrodia, many giants ended up migrating there, to support their fellow giant who had made history. In recent years, especially with Tiryans goal of world domination, Giants have been seen either fleeing the country, or supporting Tiryan out of respect for their ancestors and Solomon.
Giants live up to around 130 years.
Elves
03
Elves are divided into 3 subspecies, each being very different from one another.

The Woodland Elves almost exclusively live within the confines of the Ancient Forest. They have a natural affinity for earth and healing magic, and when surrounded by nature, they’re magic is strengthened. Woodland Elves consider themselves to be the true elves, and despise the other two elven races, despite only having minor differences between each other.

Sun Elves, unlike their relatives, live in Pyla and Alkebu-lan and are almost always darker in skin tone compared to Woodland and Moon elves. They specialize in fire magic, and as the sun rises, and gets closer to noon, their fire abilities become stronger and stronger, becoming nigh unstoppable at 12:00, and then becoming weaker and weaker until the sun fully sets. Sun Elves despise the woodland elves' haughtiness, and get along much better with the moon elves.

Moon Elves live mainly in the incredibly dense and dark forest that surrounds the Ancient Forest. They act as a deterrent force who ensure that the Ancient Forest is kept safe from those who would wish to do them harm. As the name implies, Moon Elves draw strength from the moon, and so long as the moon is out, they gain the ability to make themselves invisible, and are physically faster and stronger than normal. They also gain a similar, but not as strong buff when in extremely dark areas.

All elves live up to around 220.
Fae
04
Also known as Faeries to some, the Fae are the second most magically powerful races of them all. They live exclusively within the confines of the Ancient forest, alongside the woodland elves and dragons. They have large mana reserves, and can fly without the need of any magic with their wings. Since the Fae are beings who are closely attuned to magic, they are more resistant to magical attacks than other races. Their greatest ability is to see the mana circuits that flow through all living things, and disrupt them temporarily to prevent someone from being able to cast magic for a short while. While the Fae are blessed with incredible magical affinity, the same cannot be said about their physical strength, and durability. To put it simply, Faeries are incredibly frail, and physical attacks hurt them 2x more than it would a non Faerie.

Fae usually live up to 110 years.
Demi-Human
05
When the Crimson Kings beasts ran rampant through the lands, the beasts would commonly kidnap young women, and force them to bear their offspring. This resulted in hybrids of all shapes and sizes being born. At first, these hybrids looked more beast than man, but as the years went on, and they’re monster lineage became more diluted, they became the races seen today.
Dragons
06
The rarest of all the races, dragons rarely show themselves, and when they do it’s almost always a sign of the world truly being in danger. Most mortals never encounter a dragon, or at least, they wouldn’t know if they had due to the dragon's ability to shapeshift at will, with no dragon parts if they so choose. Other than shapeshifting, dragons use their own draconic magic that is vastly more powerful, and more destructive than even Fae magic. However, dragons are limited to their draconic magic, which usually uses massive amounts of mana. They are also highly sought after for materials, causing many to break away and live in extreme environments most mortals cannot survive in. As of recent times, however, Dragons have been taking refuge in the Ancient Forest, to live long and peaceful lives without any worry of being hunted down.
Dragons can live up to 500+ years. (the maximum age for player dragons is 90.)
Vampires
07
How vampires came to be is a mystery to even some of the gods. They’ve existed alongside humans for as long as anyone could remember, and have had their shares of ups and downs just as humans have. However, amongst all the other races, Vampires are hated the most, more than demi-humans. This hatred stems from the fact that the original Crimson King was a vampire, and ever since this fact was discovered, many began to treat vampires like a plague. They have no country to call their own, nor will most countries even let them into their borders once they’ve been found out to be vampires.

Unlike most stories, vampires do not burn in the sun, and garlic has no effect on them. Vampires are divided into two groups:

Commoners: Commoners are regular vampires. They’re physically strong, and are capable of crushing bones with their bare fists. They can also transform their arms into wings in order to fly about wherever they’d like.

Royals: A royal vampire is much more powerful than its counterpart. They can do anything a commoner can, but better, and they also have access to blood magic, which is the ability for one to bend their own blood and use it as a weapon against any opponent.

While vampires may seem to be a powerful race, both fire and light magic are extremely effective against them. And having anything driven into their hearts results in them instantly burning to ash.

Vampires do not die of old age.
