Summer Sweetheart Limerick
It was in the mid-summer of '09,
showed up early and for the first time,
getting my lanyard
and learning the standards
of registering for summer camp in a line.
A place where all nerds can gather,
with no other place they would rather
be at for three weeks,
with no internet to speak
of; instead focusing on what really matters.
It was then a young girl I found,
Who stood out from the crowds around.
I wanted to talk,
but instead would just gawk,
at her without making a sound.
She had beautiful eyes and black hair.
How speechless was I standing there.
Incredibly heavy
with nothing to levy
were my thoughts, daydreaming somewhere.
Courage I had finally mustered,
though still incredibly flustered.
When she was alone,
with the future unknown,
a small greeting I managed to mutter.
From then on we talked everyday,
small chatter to quite the array
of conversations we'd strike,
that'd go on through midnight,
yet one thing I kept failing to say,
That I thought I loved her quite dearly.
That she was really all I could see.
From her voice so sweet,
to her thoughts so deep,
a girl that I felt would complete me.
But what if that wasn't the case
for her, it was only a chase?
When I was all worried,
a week had just hurried,
and we were sitting at the lunch place.
It was then on that fateful bright day,
embarrassed to actually say,
she wrote with her finger
on my palm where it lingered,
her writing "I love you, okay?"
