The Plot:

The year is 3045. Under the rule of Emperor Darien Mitchell, the whole world once known as 'Earth' has been combined into one large kingdom known as Caelum Civitatis ('Sky/Heaven City' in Latin), with sections ruled by lords and ladies who are chosen by the emperor. Due to incredible advances in technology, the cities are no longer even touching the ground itself, but floating a few miles above the ground, leaving the earth to grow back into its wilderness with the remains from the early 2000's.

People who are banished from this floating utopia are sent down below where genetically mutated creatures live due to scientists going crazy with these new advances. These creatures are also the reason the floating utopia had to be built, since the creatures now run rampant over the old earth. People who survive down below in what is called 'The Sanctuary', group together to form a resistance since they have only been put there because the emperor is power hungry and disposes of anyone he can to put fear into the people he rules over. Unknown to the people in the sanctuary, their biggest insider that discreetly sends them supplies is the emperor's daughter, but no one knows it's her as she wears a cloak when going to do things her father would banish her for. It is on the brink of a full scale rebellion by the people who were banished and the few within the cities that are secretly against the emperor: if they can ever get back.

Darien has tricked all the citizens the best he could and has burned all books and such that go against how he wants; but the old, run down libraries in the sanctuary still hold how civilization could thrive even better as it did before this emperor. All the education comes from computerized journals that were created by a large group of scholars who do at the emperor says in fear, so all the education is modeled to his liking. The king is creating a world where only the knowledge he lets out is known.

People against the emperor often get tattoos of birds somewhere on their body, as a sign of mental freedom from his strangling ways.

Caelum Civitatis

The buildings in the city are made from white bricks and black metal, creating a uniform civilization. Clothes are vibrant in color to add beauty to the black and white city, making the people pop out against their surroundings. Libraries are strictly computerized, with tablets on the shelves instead of books, and rows of tables with computers. Prison cells are made of shatter proof glass; schools are taught using online books; homes are protected by alarm systems controlled by the empire.

The Sanctuary

The early 2000's world has crumbled down and nature has taken it over again. Large trees and vines break down the former world except for the places the banished have kept up. Libraries are tended to, to try and preserve the knowledge. Old homes have been torn apart for scraps to build hidden homes below the cover of the trees t hide from scouts sent by the city that looms above. Once a month, the city throws waste (including clothes and food) down to the drop zone, an old airport.

Mutated creatures roam the sanctuary, claiming it as theirs.
