Jenelle Kennedy
Let us be young, let us be wild
until the summer's over
Jenelle felt like one big bundle of nerves.

She should be having the time of her life this evening. Halloween was supposed to be fun. It was one of her absolute favorite holidays, in fact. And this party she'd organized with Leah, so far, it was going off without a hitch.

Still, it was a risky endeavor. Jenelle was a goody two-shoes; it wasn't an everyday thing for her to throw secret parties, to deceive her parents, to misbehave. And if Leah's father found out a wild high school party full of underage drinking and teenage debauchery was going on under the mayor's roof, it'd be game over. Leah was already policed enough as it was, always having to appear as the perfect daughter for the optics and the press. If she stepped one toe out of line, it could spell bad publicity for the mayor, and that kind of thing was clearly his number one concern.

Luckily, with Mayor Gallinger attending some crucial event, that meant the important members of his staff–the ones who would care enough to shut down their fun–would be at his side as part of the entourage. Those that might be hanging around were mainly house staff, and easily bribed by the moneyed teens to make themselves scarce tonight and not rat them out. Plus, the grounds of the historic mayor's mansion was a sprawling stretch of property, complete with stroll gardens, a large fountain, and a full size tennis court. It wasn't like the Gallingers' neighbors were right on top of them.

They were surrounded by neighbors on all sides though. And as more guests started streaming in, the music was steadily being cranked up louder to hear over the rising din.

Yet Jenny felt a surge of pride as the two girls surveyed their soiree from the safety of the quieter kitchen. It was clearly going to be an amazing night. Gazing over a sea of partygoers that were starting to take over every inch of the house, enough to transform a friendly gathering into a full-on rager. It was quite the turnout, with plenty of kids they didn't even recognize showing up. Word of the party must have spread to nearby schools, just as Jenny had hoped.

"DJ coming tonight?" The redhead asked casually, though barely able to suppress the strong urge to roll her eyes at the very mention of that prick's name. She pouted her freshly glossed lips in the tiny mirror before snapping her compact shut to glance over at Leah, who was arranging jello shots onto a platter.

"Do you think Max is gonna be here?" She asked, voice dropped to a sheepish mumble as her face flushed pink. She knew Leah didn't approve of Max as a love match for her bestie, but Jenny couldn't help falling head over heels for the weedy little guy every time he dazzled her with his cute smile.

Sadly, it had been quite some time since she'd seen it. Max had been incredibly distant since the Berkowitz family took a huge financial hit, and were forced to move to Skid Row. And while she desperately wanted to, Jenny didn't dare pry about the rumors of his hospital stay, or what might have put him there. Even though they'd been friends since forever, the girl couldn't find the courage to simply ask Max herself if he'd be stopping by.

Anyway, where's the drama in that? She'd much rather stay on edge all night, wondering if he was gonna pop up all of a sudden after so many months. She was already full of nervous energy; what's one more layer of anxiety just to make the night a bit more interesting?

Vinny Ramos
The truth is out there
Vinny was the first to hop off the city bus, excitedly leading the way for the rest of the small group. There was a gleeful spring in his step, despite being weighed down by the massive backpack, mounting nerves, and an overly full belly, having just gorged on way too much lasagna.

The dark-haired boy turned to face them, his loyal comrades that made up the rest of the Paranormal Society. "I know where there's an easy way in. I'm gonna go find it and come right back." Chocolate brown eyes flicked a glance over the large, dilapidated old jailhouse before turning back to the huddle that gathered around him.

"You guys stay here," Vinny continued, deciding he'd better lower his voice to a hush if they were going to chat about breaking and entering right there on the street. "In case anyone else comes." Yes, he was still holding out hope that some would-be paranormal investigators might see the flyer and come join them on their adventure.

"Iso.." He said softly to get his friend's attention, subtly nudging his head in the direction of their youngest member, just as her attention seemed to be captured elsewhere. He gave Isolde a pleading look, wordlessly asking her to keep an eye on Lexie. Just to be sure the young teen didn't get into any trouble, or wander off and get lost before they even got a chance to explore their destination.

Vin adjusted his heavy pack once more in a fruitless effort to redistribute all the ghost hunting equipment, gear, and gadgets to a more manageable load upon his young shoulders. Finally giving up, he trudged on with a sigh, slipping through a known hole in the face to go look for this fabled unlocked side door they could shimmy through.

It didn't take long before he heard footsteps rushing up behind him, and he knew exactly who they belonged to before even turning around. "You scared?" Vinny asked with a laugh, reaching out to drape an arm protectively over Wilhemina's shoulders. Her dark eyes gazed back up at him, standing out against a face that looked unusually pale and anxious.

The boy frowned, leaning in to plant a kiss on her forehead. "Aww, come on, this is gonna be fun!" But for the first time tonight, he was starting to have second thoughts about this plan.

"Are you mad we didn't go to that party? At the mayor's house?" He asked gently, pausing to study Wil. Suddenly feeling guilty for dragging her along on this caper, instead of going along with something she'd rather be doing on Halloween. She was always dutifully following him into the latest abandoned building or haunted attraction that struck his fancy, even though this kind of thing wasn't at all her idea of a good time.

Vin perked up once again when the pair finally stumbled across the side entrance he'd heard about, the one that could be easily bypassed. "YEEEES!" He whooped quietly, testing the door by giving it a good tug. It wouldn't open completely, secured with rusty chains, but he could pull it just enough to create a small space they could each slip inside, one by one.

"This is gonna be awesome! I promise!" Excitedly, he grabbed his girlfriend by the waist, playfully pulling her into his arms as they headed back the same way to fetch their fellow investigators.

The Tertiary Sin.

Boiling deep within, a bubbling heat of wrath. Venom seeping through bladed lexicon

OCTOBER 31ST.

Amber eyes stared down at this… rambling human. Molten honey simmered in heat. Oh, he was annoyed. Yes, but he wasn’t too angry. Not yet.

Was that a hint of warmth? Light amusement? Something twitched at the corner of Cupid’s bow, turning a rather strict and severe appearance into… well, it was gone before there could be any true deliberation on his true nature.

“You can’t handle your alcohol.” Flat. To the people who haven’t dealt with Aurelian, this was a net positive, as all of the venom and bite had been drained from tone or verbiage. “… Who the fuck let you in here”

And that one almost sounded teasing if it came from someone whose expression was not “perpetually pissed.”

He was talked over as the cherubic little puppy dog kept tapping about… pockets? Tie dye? Bacon? Either way it earned a small snort of derision as Aurelian finished out his water and asked, somewhat reluctantly, for a vodka tonic… a double.

He was gonna need it. He stared at the bartender as he took a drink, a grim kind of smile flashed, a sympathetic gaze from her. Slid over, a napkin with a bit of writing on it — oh hello. He could pursue that la-

Have you ever had mac n cheese and bacon?

The creature was staring at him again.

They made eye contact.

Aurelian hadn’t been paying attention.

Quick! Scare him off!

Lips slowly pulled back into a smile with too many teeth, edges sharp and dangerous, his eyes were brown heavy, hazel by technicality, yellow rimmed the edges of his irises and were gently feathered in with a brush.

And they did not follow the smile, completely devoid of all soul or emotion.

“You are going to scamper off. I’m going to give you to the count of five.” His voice was soft, the gentle peace before the hurricane. “One…”

This was a bad idea now that he was thinking about it.

“Two…”

I mean, he probably was too drunk to even understand the threat.

“Three…”

Regret chilled his blood. This was going to suck.

“Four…”

What if he turned out to be an actual fighter? He didn’t really feel like getting punched in the face or having his ass handed to him…

“Five.”

He also didn’t want to be a liar… this was a dilemma.

The staring reoccurred

The silence hung heavy in the air.

Well, technically he never actually gave a violent threat… he just implied it.

Heavily.

Aurelian slammed his drink, and then waved the bartender down for another… or maybe 2… or 3.

“… you’re lucky I don’t actually feel like… like…” The vodka hit fast and something in Ari’s shoulders relaxed a little. “… like punching someone today.”

Tone immediately mellowed from violent to flat. Hypocrisy of Aurelian was rare, he couldn’t really hold alcohol either. He didn’t drink much or often, so he just never built a tolerance for the poison.

Drink stirred with his pinky, he felt less inclined to stab Apollo with a fork now that he was intoxicated.

“…” the world was getting kind of hazy and mellow. Headache relieved somewhat, he kinda wanted to just curl up in the warmth and take a nap now.

Meanwhile Apollo was just getting the full brunt of a yellow eyed glare.

leah gallinger
Always an angel, never a god

There was no other way of going about it. The party was escalating and it was escalating fast.

As she observed the state of the place from the kitchen, despite all desires to just let it go and enjoy the party, a nagging feeling kept ringing in the back of her head. You know you're gonna be the one who has to clean this all up, right? It wasn't that Leah didn't like parties, she definitely did. But the defaced paintings and yellow liquids that she'd caught pooling up in her dad's antique vases was starting to concern her. She much preferred to drop into somebody else's party, free to come and go as she pleased, with no concern for how tomorrow might look.

Despite this, she decided to push back those feeilngs for the time-being. She was well aware of how excited Jenny was, given the fact that the girl didn't usually throw parties like this and she definitely didn't want her own worries to rain on her bestie's parade. This was a tomorrow problem.

"Huh?" Leah glanced over at the ginger bat, still absently arranging the jello shots as she'd set out to do. "Oh. I think so? Haven't talked to him lately, though." She admitted slightly sheepishly. Jenny made no secret of the fact that she wasn't fond of DJ, given the surly teen's tendency to ghost Leah.

Leah had no defences when Jenny criticized his behaviour, even finding a bit of catharsis when Jenny said the things that she didn't want to admit herself. But DJ was DJ and she'd been smitten with the insanely hot/grumpy mafia foot soldier since they were kids, fully aware of the fact that he didn't feel the same. She was used to getting crickets from him emotionally and knew she'd be an idiot to get mad at DJ at this point, as dumb and masochistic as Jenny might think that was.

"Gross! Jeeeen what did I tell you about settling for gross guys?" She playfully whined, abandoning her task to prop herself up on the kitchen counter, facing Jenny. "But, if you must know, yes. And get this. Rachel found out about the party. And she's making him go."

Words could not describe just how little Leah wanted Jenny to keep going for Max. For all the reasons she'd posited in the past, yes. He's a crybaby, yet completely emotionally unavailable, weirdly fixated on cacti. But she could even overlook that if it meant Jenny was happy. But what she couldn't get over, was the fact that in all of his 16 years of life, Maximilian David Berkowitz had not only never expressed atttraction to women, but was SO anxious to disprove the fact that he was into guys, that it made the gears in Leah's head start spinning.

Of course it was wrong to assume shit, and she didn't wanna share this theory blatantly if she was wrong and out Max, but all the same she was terrified that her beloved bestie was barking up a fruit tree here and she didn't even know it.

Diverting from the topic of boys, she looked down to fiddle with blood stained prom dress she'd opted to wear, before speaking again. "Jeeeeeen." She called out dramatically, reaching out for her bestie with the same gravitas that two dying lovers might on the Titanic, before bursting into giggles. "You look fucking hot by the way. You're gonna knock the guys dead. And then it'll be "Max who?"" She assured her bestie, gesturing for her to come over so Leah could wrap an arm around her for a quick hug. Not a full one though, she definitely didn't wanna risk getting the fake blood all over Jenelle.

As Jen exited the hug, Leah went back to her own devices. She peered over at a mirror on the opposite side of the room, adjusting her hair and costume almost obsessively. Not because she noticed a flaw, but because she needed to be focusing on something. Leah was always the type of person who could never be left alone with her thoughts, always chasing something to obsess over. But these tendencies always got a billion times worse on Halloween.

It had been 10 years since that Halloween. The window for which it was okay for it to be debilitating had long passed. Even if it had been a traumatic thing to undergo, she was 6. It was time to move on, and she knew that.

But she couldn't. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't. The image of her mom's cold lifeless body still plagued her dreams, the way Leah had frozen up, unable to scream and unable to even move for a few solid minutes, the way she'd locked herself in her bedroom, praying miraculously that things would work themselves out by the time tomorrow came. It wouldn't go away no matter how hard she tried.

So she did what she had to do to avoid it. She didn't sleep for extended periods of time, threw herself into a variety of passions and obsessions, and most importantly, made sure that nobody knew how tenuous Leah's ability to function like a normal teen was. She couldn't stand the bruise to her ego if anybody discovered just how pathetic her state was.

With a deep breath, she pulled out her phone, preparing for her latest mission of the night. Discovering the rat bastards who thought it might be a good idea to piss in the antiques, blacklisting them from any future parties, and kicking them out on their asses.

And od course, praying that her Dad didn't suddenly get the urge to sniff any vases.

Ready to Partyyy
Halloween Party
Open to anyone/everyone
Kenzie did a twirl as she stood in front of the mirror in her house. Between school, partying and running drugs she had completely forgotten to pick out an outfit for Halloween and so tonight she had to make do with what she could find in her wardrobe. As her eyes examined the bunny tale that she had made out of wool that she found in the house, Kenzie smiled to herself content in her outfit. It was simple yet effective and beside who didn't want to be a playboy bunny or more importantly who didn't want to get with a playboy bunny.

Sitting down in front of her mirror to do her makeup, Kenzie reached back and grabbed the bottle of vodka from under her bed. She took a large gulp, grimacing as it burned down her throat before placing the now open bottle beside her as she started on her makeup. She decided on a simple look along with her signature winged eyeliner and smiled as she checked out her work in the mirror. She didn't have a set goal in mind for this party but granted that it was halloween, she knew something fun would be on the cards.

She took another large gulp of the vodka, not flinching this time before closing the lid and placing it back securely hidden under her bed. Quietly, Kenzie got up and walked across to her bedroom door, opening it a crack to listen for footsteps and figure out where her siblings were. She knew James had some plans with his idiot friends and she was sure Emmy was going on a date, a date which she kept insisting was not a date but Kenize knew better especially since Emily had been smiling like an idiot all week about it. Rolling her eyes at the mere thought of the love sick act that Emmy had going on, Kenzie stepped back into her room and closed the door. Happy that the house seemed to be empty, Kenzie rooted through her handbag and took out the small baggies hidden in her purse. She examined them carefully before placing all but one filled with a white powder back into her purse. Kenzie took a bump before closing the baggie and placing it in her purse for later use. She knew you should never use from your own supply but a little one never hurt.

After pulling on her thigh high black boots and organising her bag, Kenzie finally left her house and headed towards Leah Gallinger's house where the party was being held. It was a short walk and the air mixed with the vodka was leaving her in a very nice state on arriving to Leah's, she only wished that she had brought the bottle with her for the walk. She was fashionably late by this time and hoped that she would be arriving to a party in full flow and drama starting to go down, after all only boring parties have no drama. She flicked out the cigarette butt as she reached the garden, an amused smirk on her face as she walked in the front door and happily acknowledged the chaos in the air as she was immediately greated by loud music, shouting and a lot of drunk teens "Man I love halloween" she muttered to herself amused as she walked straight to the kitchen in search of alcohol. Time to party.

All she could offer was a shrug.

The way she saw it was that it was going to happen eventually. May as well do it now and save themselves the meaningless conversation. They both knew what this was. Brittany wasn't about to make it anything else no matter what her foolish little heart told her to do.

"Not far. Just a few blocks that way." Bri gestured toward the direction of her place, figuring that she would at least let the man lead her there. She would take his hand, instead occupying her fingers with the bottle that she brought to her lips and sipped on casually. As if her mind needed to become any foggier.

It was surprising the words that came from Grahams mouth next. Something about stars as he pointed toward the night sky. She didn't look. She wouldn't dare. Blocking out the waves of emotion that ripped through her as memories of her past flooded through her at an overwhelming speed. A beach, a blanket. and a bottle of carefully chosen wine. Sweet nothings whispered into the vast night as lovers laid beside each other. Colin loved the stars. He knew every constellation. Of course fate would throw this at her, burdening her with the guilt of moving on.

Instead she moved forward, passing Graham and treading on toward her home. A mind filled with hatred for the urges she felt, ruining her conscious and wrecking her already torn soul. Of course the man beside her would never know what his words did to her. He would never know of her past or the things she had to do to move forward.

"I suppose it would." It was the only thing she could say, truthfully she hadn't heard the most of what he said only catching the last little bit. "Are you coming?"

A one track mind. Keep it there. Brittany was over the pleasantries, the small talk, the deep talk, she just wanted to get home and take those fucking fake teeth out of her mouth.

The girl pulled out her phone, scrolling through options to order food as she walked. One hand on bottle, one hand on phone, a perfect excuse. "Do you fancy some Chinese? I can order a random assortment and it'll be at mine by the time we get there. We can eat then turn on the film, yeah? I'm thinking maybe something spooky?"

Aster's Eulogy.

A star has died, the brightest burn the fastest, and all that remains is silence

OCTOBER 31ST.

Talkative chattering of nothingness met stone. A “I suppose it would” in its frigidity meeting sunshine warmth. Graham’s disappointment was palpable, maybe the first genuine emotion he displayed the entire night.

Oh.

… oh.

okay.

“Ehm.” A pause. “Sorry, I’m… a nerd about that kind of- not for everyone, I know.”

Because at the end of the day, that’s all anyone really wanted him for. Not for his likes, not for his interests, not for him but because he was easy and a slut.

She looked really... put out. He’d fucked up bad.

“Yeah I can do some Chinese… ehm..”

She was on her phone.

“Are you…”

Okay, still willing to fuck, mad at him, upset, annoyed at the space talk, ruthlessly using him for his body…

“Listen if you don’t want to… do this, we can do something else, or you can go home with another lad, I don’t really mind either way.” Graham said softly, gentle and warm. The sun on a brisk morning, layered over the hurt of rejection of his self – a jarring reminder of who he was – and put it as concern towards her. “Genuinely, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings.”

Reading her body language, her posture, her lack of attention. It didn’t necessarily scream “super horny.” Checked out and upset seemed to be the main two expressions. “I don’t want to sleep with someone that isn’t… 100% willing and wanting me.”

Give her an out, because God knows how much he’d hate himself if it turned out she felt pressured into something, being on a date with the town bicycle.

“I just… don’t want you to feel like this is something you have to do, instead of something you want to do.” Any trace of cocky asshole fell away, and all that was left was soft warmth, the steady strength of support and stability.

Engagement with him was falling off, and that was alright, he barely expected them to give a shit about him, but generally speaking… this wasn’t a good sign.

“I’m not sure what you heard about me, love, but I do like my hookups enthusiastically willing.” Graham kept his tone light, carefully playful, the return to the mask even if her coldness had eked out a single moment of authenticity.

Ultimately, whether or not she actually liked him was a superfluous exercise in misery. Because of course she didn’t, she’d proven that one time and time again. Bury himself deep inside, the self was disgusting and ugly. Not something that people liked very much. He already knew that he was used for sex frequently, it hurt to be reminded of that, but he had to know.

It was written on his partners’ faces in the afterglow when they left him with barely a goodbye.

A notch in the bedpost, easy.

The important part to him was if she wanted to do this in the first place, because whatever he’d just said seemed to immediately turn her off – space talk, nerd talk, big no, understood. Graham was a lot of things, quite stupid was one of them. But he did know the ins and outs of consent, and some of the few lines he wasn’t willing to cross was dubiousness with hers.

Vinny, Iso, Wil

Thank god her brother wasn't there.

Lex hopped off the bus, trailing her little group of friends, a wild feeling in her heart. Sure, she was the youngest in the group, but that never stopped her from being wildly enthusiastic about whatever they were doing. The others never seemed to find it a problem. Lex was smart. Smart enough to keep herself safe for the most part at least.

Throughout the night Lex made sure she didn't eat or drink too much, knowing there was a possibility she would have to zip off at a moments notice. Whether that meant they were running from an actual ghost or the police, either way Lexie didn't care. It wouldn't be the first time she had to make a mad dash away from someone. Sometimes even her own friend group as they tried to stop her from doing something that they thought she shouldn't be doing. Sometimes Vinny could be such a party pooper.

They waited for their leaders direction, knowing that Vinny would know how to get into the broken down building in front of them. Lex observed its vastness, excited to finally get a chance to break in and wander around. Even if they didn't find any ghosts, Lex still loved exploring the ruins of buildings left behind. It was always exciting to see how eventually nature would take over. Kind of like an apocalypse. Sometimes she imagined that there was an outbreak and she was quietly pacing the halls, ready for something to jump out at her while they wandered the empty ruins of buildings.

The jail was the biggest one she was allowed to go in, well, at least go in without a babysitter. Normally by now Vin would have assigned someone to watch over her. This time? No dice. It was exciting. Lex was already planning where she would go. She wanted to explore the emptiness outside before wandering in. She figured if there was going to be anything spooky surely it would be outside, right?

Lex was so lost in thought she didn't realize Vinny and Wil had gone, leaving her alone with Iso on the street. A perfect opportunity. Lexie smiled over at Iso then quickly broke away, the chain on her hip rattling as she made her way to the side of the building. Lex pulled her phone out of her pocket and turned on the flashlight, looking out into the emptiness.

"Hello ghosty boys! Show yourself and I won't beat you up!" She called out. Lex wan't sure if she could beat up a ghost but she was more than willing to try.

There was a shift.

A change in the light, flirty atmosphere between the two. Grahams voice was soft, gentle, like a feather freshly fallen from an owl. Carefully he urged her to change her mind about their plans for the night. Had he changed his mind? Did he no longer want anything to do with her? Over some stars?

What the fuck had she done?

Brittany stopped, looking up at the man, her brows furrowed and her expression hardened slightly. This was a mistake, wasn't it? She was pressuring him into something he didn't want and this was his way of telling her that he didn't want it. It was true, his comments on the sky had put her off, but that was her own problem. Something she could easily push away once she got her fix.

Like an addict, she immediately wanted to smooth things over in hopes she would still get her fix. Yet he spoke to her with a tone she hadn't heard in a long time. He didn't want it. He had changed his mind and was obviously telling her this now. Halfway to her house after she had started their order for food. Brittany rolled her eyes in an attempt to disregard what had been said.

"I don't care. If you don't want to do this then you don't have to. Sorry. I just don't care about the stars or the sky at all." Bri shrugged. This little dance was getting old. "If that's the dealbreaker then I suggest you turn around. Lose my number. I don't care at all. Now if you want to come home with me then you'd better decide now. I'm not waiting all night." Make it a means to an end. Make it a decision he makes that way she didn't have to deal with the guilt and regret.

Yet the moment the words left her mouth she was kicking herself. Bri felt like a child throwing a fit over not getting her way. What a spoiled little brat. How had she let herself become this person? This shell of a human who's only true passion was directly linked to her work. How had she managed to alienate everyone in her life to the point where even her own father had stopped bringing her along. Her best friend had moved on. Brittany was left in the dust because of her own attitude. What the hell had become of her?

The gentle waves of her hair bounced around her shoulders as Brittany shook her head, "Look. I'm sorry. Listen I don't want to do this if you don't want to do this. I- I can just ignore the space talk and drink. I'll be fine. It's fine. I'm fine. But if you don't want this then just say it coz I don't have the time to be playing these little cat and mouse games with you. I don't have the patience." The fucking fake teeth had taken all of that, "I don't know where you got unenthusiastic from. I don't think I've ever been jumping off the walls excited to be having meaningless sex with you. I'm pretty sure I've made that clear but, hey, if you read it differently then that's not on me, yeah?"

♡coded by uxie♡

And that’s when she hit nothingness, a void of intelligence, just soft warmth of a slightly kicked puppy. “Love, nothing said I didn’t want this, but you’ve been on edge all night.”

Gentle soft touches in response to anger, if this was how he helped then it was how he helped, nothing to be done.

“And the more you say it’s fine the less I believe you.” Said with a bit more of a joking lilt. “Shoulders hunched, eyebrows knitted, mouth is in a strong crease, statin’ at yer phone, tone’s upset and angry… forgive me if I don’t think you’re being very forward with me right now about your emotional state. I’m an empath.”

It sounded more like he was being self-deprecating with that last joke than any actual claim of empathy. “I think telling me to ghost you is a bit harsh though, no?”

“I’d greatly prefer it if you were honest with me. This is supposed to be a relationship, after all. Even if we skip the lovey dovey nonsense and go straight to the fun stuff, honest communication is important, yeah? Just be straight forward, what… what do you want me for.” He had a pretty good idea, but he needed her to tell him. “I can be whatever you’d like, a fun distraction, a boyfriend for the night, a friend, some company, but you need to tell me what you want.”

A small shrug. “That way I can make sure to serve you as best as I can.”

Another stupid grin, levity as he retreated further. The conversation had to happen, and he cared for her immensely. Something soft and warm, protective, something that he felt towards all of his hookups — he wasn’t the type to be able to discard so easily, but he understood the nature of his relationships. Being used for emotional support and physical lust was just a fact of life, his punishment in this life. A penance.

“This is supposed to be pleasure, after all… don’t even have to give me a reason, just need to know what exactly you need out of me.”

No matter where you go, I won't be very far
'Cause in my head, I'll be right there where you are

Wil folded her hands across her chest, wincing as her boyfriend tried to convince her that nothing could possibly go wrong. "I trust you babe." She offered, smiling weakly. Nevertheless, it was clear she was only saying that to please Vin.

"It's fine. We're old farts anyway, we have no business going to a high school party." She joked. Wil didn't think of herself as a party person per se, that was always more of Maya's territory than hers. Despite that, she still enjoyed them every now and then, especially when it was Halloween and she could admire everybody's costumes. Plus, anything seemed more fun than breaking and entering into a haunted jailhouse right about now.

It was no secret just how little Wil thought of the idea of ghosthunting. That she was terrified that every escapade would be the one which resulted in certain death for everybody involved. Her idea of a good night was one cuddled up at home, with Vin and her beloved gecko Sally, far far away from ghosts and ghouls. She felt the goosebumps forming, and the familiar pit in her stomach that signified something was about to go very wrong.

But she loved her boyfriend, and knew how much the Paranormal society meant to him. So she dutifully followed him on every escapade, reasoning that it would at the very least be better if they all died together, rather than just him and the rest of the crew. Reluctantly, she leaned into his touch, clinging onto his arm as if he was the tether that kept her safe from being chomped up by an angry monster.

Her grip around his arm tightened as the duo went to alert the others. It was her own fault for getting into these situations. She knew that. The idea of begging Vin not to do this expedition made her feel terrible. Somehow, disappointing him felt a billion times worse than the ghost thing. Her fingernails dug into his skin, already visibly rattled before they'd even entered the building.

They reached Isolde, causing Wil to tilt her head with a frown. "Where's Lex?" She finally piped up, her eyebrows furrowing in concern. "She's probably just around here, right?" She pressed, praying that the group's youngest member hadn't gotten snatched up or shanked or even taken by a ghost. She reluctantly untangled from Vin, placing her hands on her hips. Lex was a kid. Her getting lost on their watch was completely unacceptable.

"C'mon, let's go." Clutching her backpack, she began her brisk stride around the perimeter of the jailhouse. Lex probably wouldn't have been able to figure out how to get into the jailhouse without running into her and Vin. Wil could just pray that she was still scanning the walls, searching for a way in. She didn't even wanna consider the possibility that somebody else might've found her before they did.

"Lex? LEEEEX." She shrieked out, hoarsely, paying the kid would identify her. And sure enough, out of the corner of her eye, a tiny dark haired figure clad in flannel shifted. "FOUND HER." She alerted the group, before running over to pull Lex into a relieved hug and scan the kid for potential scratches and bruises.

The stress and shrieking had taken a toll on Wil, causing her to sink to the floor in a crouch and catch her breath. "Lex! You're not supposed to go off on your own." She gently chastised, before toppling over, flat on her butt on the ground. "Do you know how happy I am that you weren't murdered by an evil ghost?"

What the fuck.

Britt wished he would stop. Just stop. Go back to an hour ago where they were smiling and flirting instead of in the middle of the road talking as if they meant something to each other. this whole time she had thought it was a mutual understanding between them. There was nothing going on. No romance, no relationship, no whatever the hell was going on right now. Nothing.

Somewhere along the line, though, Bri must have said something to make him react this way, right? Now she was dealing with those consequences. Her reckless, bleeding heart had gone too far. This was not a relationship. No matter what had been thought or said before, this was not a relationship.

"Stop." Brittany took a step back, "Stop. Stop. I don't-" She shook her head and looked away, fighting off tears. How stupid was she to have let this get so far. "I think you have the wrong idea. This" delicate fingers gestured between them, "is not a relationship. Not even a little bit of one. You are not my boyfriend or my friend at all, for that matter. You don't know me at all, I don't want you to know me at all. I don't want to know you at all. This is nothing. I'm nothing to you, you got that? I'm nothing to you. You're nothing to me." There was no hiding the venom laced in her voice as she spit the words at Graham. "You're just a release, yeah? This is just some mindless fun then we go our separate ways."

Brittany wasn't usually so mean, so harsh. Yet the words spilled out of her like a waterfall. Word vomit that she couldn't control. The night ruined, there was no going back. Now all she wanted was for him gone from her sight. To leave and not return. Lose her number. She was definitely losing his. It was over. How foolish of her to think she could have something that worked, it always ended the same. Meaningless nothings that spun out of control.

Both eyebrows slowly raised through incredulity at the drunken yelling about how neither of them mattered to each other. There was a low whistle as she stopped, letting the silence hang heavy in the air for a second as he gathered his thoughts. “Wow. Okay, I think there’s been a misunderstanding here on verbiage.”

All of the lighthearted joking was gone, something much more flat and deadpan had entered his voice by now.

“Briiiiiitt.” Soft and calm. Ever relaxed and lackadaisical. “When one person has sex with another person on a semi-regular basis, what do we call that.”

He was being a bit of a pedant right now, but he figured that he just wanted to be right.

“That’s called… aaaaa… ssssss”

Slowly drawing out the word.

“Ssssexuallll” Really spelling it out for her

“A sexualllll relaaaayyyytionshippppp”

His accent seemed to flip as he faked an American one just to really drive it in.

Back to the marble mouthed variety of speech.

“Would you prefer me to use the term “continual coital partners” for future reference, just to avoid the r word.” That one was definitely sarcasm, dry and deadpan, all brakes were off. Mask off, intelligence clearly poking holes through flimsy disguise.

“Flagrantly being used for my amazingly hot body” Again, it didn’t really sound like the ego and confidence of his normal self, but more like he was being hyperbolic as a joke. “Isn’t the issue Britt, the issue I’m having is that you lack honesty.”

Green eyes usually filled with warm blankness were now sharply intelligent, dead inside.

“Tell me if this sounds familiar or not. You invited me out. The guy who trims the hedges of your dad’s friends’ estates. You could’ve asked anyone else in this godforsaken town out tonight for fun. And you asked me. You then proceed to moon eye over me the entire night, pretend like you actually like me a little – not as a romantic way, but as a general “hey maybe I should get to know the guy I’ve been sleeping with a little” way. You complain all night about your lonely lonely rich life to a person who lives on one night stands and a lack of commitment but sleeps in their truck. And then when I show one little sliver of a personality outside of entertaining you, you immediately clam up and begin acting distant and moody and acting like you’re just trying to get this over with. I don’t want to fuck someone who feels pressured into having sex with me, so I ask you if you’re alright. To which you explode at me and start yelling at me on the street.”

“Oh no, the man I’ve been using to run away from my issues without telling him has some mixed feelings about that. How terrible, your life is so difficult why can’t you just find some warm body willing to fuck whenever you want.”

A pause.

“You want a sycophantic sex doll. That’s what you want.”

A grim humorless smile as he began laughing this terrible wheezy cackle.

“And the worst thing is that I’m still willing to do that for you.”

Alexei Milyukov
Why get used to something new?
Cuz no one breaks my heart like you
"Fuckin' degenerate," Alexei muttered, glancing over the veritable pharmacy Julian Arrington had stored up in his medicine cabinet. Benzos, opiates, and plenty of other mind-altering legal narcotics filled up an extensive collection of little orange bottles, neatly arranged on their shelves. With a judgemental shake of his head, Alexei closed the mirrored door on the pharmaceutical stockpile before wandering from the spacious ensuite, through the well appointed master bedroom, and back into the hall.

Obviously, Alexei wasn't here to mingle or enjoy a swanky Hollywood party. Pretty much immediately upon his arrival, the thief had slipped off to go poke around the rest of the house. Just for a quick peek, to see what kind of goodies were up for grabs if one should happen to break in at a later date.

Passing by a stylish console, Alexei snatched up one of the small statues that decorated the shiny mahogany tabletop, turning it over in his hands to examine it curiously. He gave its edge a little nibble with his canines, happy to see his bite had nicked the surface, indicating a surefire composition of solid gold.

He swiftly slipped the statue into his pocket. The first thing he'd swiped so far, but Alexei was practicing a great deal of restraint, as this little recon mission wasn't exactly sanctioned by Kaz. In fact, Alexei opted not to tell him about it at all, since his brother liked Julian. Or more accurately, his brother liked all the money Julian spent at his strip club, all the cash he was willing to throw around at Kaz's poker games, or gambling on football.

Alexei, on the other hand, did not like Julian, not one bit. He was appalled by the man, the epitome of a Hollywood douchebag. And if being a phony dickhead wasn't bad enough, there was just something incredibly scummy about the guy. Especially the way Josephine would bristle at his name. It was a rare occasion when she'd even mention her former producer, but when she did, the hurt in her innocent doe eyes was unmistakable. Alexei was positive this prick did something to her.

Of course, Jo would never open up about it during their brief courtship. And there wasn't a chance in hell she'd do so now that she straight up hated him. He'd probably never know if his suspicions were true. That certainly wouldn't stop him from hating the loathsome little weasel though. And getting Kaz on board to rob this fucker blind would be sweet, sweet payback for his crimes; Alexei didn't much care if it was payback well deserved or not.

While the place was full of valuables like Rolexes and shiny gold knick-knacks, what Alexei really wanted to see was the garage; rich assholes like Julian always felt the need to show off with a bunch of expensive cars. Jogging down the staircase, he was once again engulfed by the crowd of party-goers as he scanned his surroundings to gauge the main floor's layout, and map the most logical route to the garage.

Someone in the distance caught his eye, however, derailing his task--a woman who stood out from the crowd. That alluring silhouette immediately caught his attention, familiar curves hugged by a snug sweater dress in Freddy Krueger stripes. Her body was one he could easily pick out of a lineup at this point, and the glossy, dark hair only confirmed what he already knew. He knew it was Dani before she even turned around, but waited for her gaze to meet his, the spark of recognition to cross her face before ambling toward her.

To his surprise, she did a quick pivot and rushed off in the opposite direction. "Dani!" Alexei quickly followed. "Dani, wait! What the hell!" He called out, annoyed, cutting through the crowd after her.

Finally catching up, Alexei reached out to gently grab the brunette by the arm, spinning her around to face him. "The fuck?? Weirdo, why are you running away?" He teased with a small laugh, though his smile would quickly fade.

"What are you even doing here? I thought you were wooorking," He continued, not even attempting to suppress an eye roll to punctuate the last word.

It only took a moment for Alexei to put the pieces together. "Wait…this guy? You fucked this guy??" He hissed, pulling Danielle into the relative privacy of a nearby hallway.

Having shifted from annoyed to furious, the fellow took a moment to rub his forehead in exasperation, as if he couldn't quite fathom what he was hearing. Though they weren't exactly a couple at the moment, Alexei would always think of Dani as his. And the thought of his girl in Julian's bed was almost too much to bear.

What the fuck was he doing there anyway?

As Danielle pushed through the crowd she couldn't help but wonder what had possessed the man to show up at a high class party like this. It wasn't his vibe. It wasn't his group. It wasn't really hers at the end of the day, either, but at least she had reason to be there. Who could Alexei possibly know that would bring him there?

Dani hoped that she had lost him, frantically darting her eyes around to find an exit. These fucking rich men and their confusing houses. Hallways to nowhere and doors to fancy bullshit rooms that would only serve to trap her and not help her escape. There was no use, Alexei was faster. A hand wrapped around her arm and Danielle had half a mind to whip around and smack the shit out of it's owner.

Still she whipped around, staring into the eyes of her once lover as he questioned her. A tease, a smile, followed by a frown. If he didn't know before then he definitely knew now. It wasn't hard to put two and two together. Especially not when Alexei knew almost everything there was to know about her.

"Alexei stop. Let go of me. St-" He was stronger than her. It didn't matter how hard she tried to pull away or resist him. Something she loved to deeply about him so often used against her. Was it still called 'having his way with her' if she was such a willing participant?

Danielle stood across from him, staring as he rubbed his forehead in frustration. He was angry. He had no right to be.

"What the fuck, Alexei? What are you doing here? Are you stalking me now? Get the fuck off of me." Danielle ripped her arm from his grasp and took a step away from him, backing herself into the wall behind her, "Why do you even care who I sleep with, huh? It's none of your business." How typical of him. Flirting with other girls, flashing that smile that made Danielles heart melt, then getting pissed at her for doing what she had to do. Oh how Danielle wished he would just get over it, love her regardless, and accept the things she did were not because she wanted to do them but because she had to.

It was over.

Their 'relationship' or whatever the hell it was, was over. The final nail in the coffin being the tone of his voice as he slowly sounded out his words, treating her like a child. Brittany took a deep breath, steadying herself as she felt the warmth of tears pricking at her eyes. She was so angry, so upset that there was no holding them back.

"Fuck you. You want me to be honest? Yeah? Well here's some honesty for you. All I wanted from you was sex. Nothing else. I don't care about your stars or your fucking commitment issues. I don't give a fuck if you sleep in your car. Boo fucking hoo. I don't give a shit about you. I've never given a shit about you. As far as I'm concerned you're nobody and you'll always be a nobody. So yeah. All I wanted was a fucking sex doll out of you. You should feel blessed. You should feel so fucking lucky that I wanted something to do with your sorry ass." Brittany stepped forward, her eyes narrowing as her tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I invited you to be nice. To be charitable and kind hoping maybe, maybe you'll have fun and be a little bit easier for me to get into bed tonight. I invited you so I had an excuse to leave that stupid fucking party as soon as I could. You're just a body to me and from what I can see?" Brittany shrugged her shoulders, a smug smile crossing her lips, "It looks like you're just a body to everyone else too."

"Now I suggest you turn around and go back to where you belong. Get the fuck out of my sight."
The girl turns on her heel, turning back before walking away, "Oh and Graham? Lose my number. I mean it. Don't ever come around again."

He was laughing, not even a flinch.

“You’re going to slutshame the guy that wants his hookups to be honest with their intentions.” He said through cackling. “Oh my God, love, listen to yourself.”

He was crying. Not sad tears, but he was laughing so hard he had to wipe beneath his eyes. Bent over laughing. “Fecking hell, you’re a riot. You think-You’re lashing out right now because I pointed out your hypocrisies so you’re going for the low hanging fruit which is that I’m a slut.”

He took some deep breaths as if trying to steady his expression before bursting back into laughter again.

“You’re so bad at this.”

A couple of shaky wheezes as he continued to fail to pull himself together. “Let’s not state the obvious, love, it’s redundant. It’s almost like, it’s-it’s almost like.”

And then his face fell deadly serious. “You’re running from something.” Green eyes stared at her with a piercing kind of intensity. “A past relationship?”

Noting her every change of expression, her every subtle shift. Reading people, his personal superpower.

“Yes, a past relationship. Sibling? No. Romantic partner. How’d that end up for you? Broken hearted? Don’t want to face it? So you’re going to go running into the arms of a lover, oh but that makes you feel guilty because you were going to spend the rest of your life with them. So instead you lash out at your hookups, unsuccessfully, because you’re trying to punish yourself and reassert that there is no more hope for you. Push them all away so that in the end you’re right for assuming that they were it for you and that your life will be nothing but misery from here on.”

Soft and calm tone, like he was stating facts that he knew about her. Terrifying stare from the normally ridiculously relaxed Graham.

“Am I right?” Rhetorical question, he didn’t give her the opportunity to answer. “You won’t hear from me again, but have this notion to think through.”

A single finger gun to her, jab with his thumb towards himself. “You. Me. We’re similar. But you want to know our difference.”

For the first time, he seemed to actually feel his whole 6’3, almost looming and terrifying with a very clearly painted on lopsided grin that did not at all meet his eyes.

“I make people actually feel good about themselves.”
And with that, he walked off, pulling up his phone to try to find the nearest gas station.

He needed a pack of cigarettes for this nonsense.

THE KLEPTO.

Ancient and vicious, luscious as dark velvet. It blooms in you, a poppy made of ink.

OCTOBER 31ST.
His spirit was a canvas of rotten woodwork, bore with an easy flaw that many had a surgical nature in detecting. He’d whinged and crawled over his roommates like a bad rash just to be included, yet the very thought of being perceived as cowardly was all that was needed to spur Ren onwards. A fissure more than his survival veneer or pattern of hedonistic tendencies, but a virile pride unable to be exhumed by any strain of rationale.

Go home and go to bed. The complainer stilled like a prey animal beneath a firm hand. It’s alright to be scared.

That seemed suspiciously accusatory.

“Sugar ain’t scared.” It sounded a lot more pathetic spoken aloud than kept in the recesses of his mind, intermittent silence only furthering the man's desire to never talk again.

Perhaps for the sake of the group’s ears it would be better to hold that instinct in good regard, but with a snarling Bashi at the helm— the little vomiting freak —their threat of punching was met with equal brutality.

“I’m gonna eat granola on your bed.”

How vicious.

Nobody was willing to scale the fence first, cowardly, but by default Ren is a creature of action, and recoils from Jed’s joke as if struck. Startled gaze cutting from figure to figure in estimation of who would partake in such a scheme: Richie the Minecraft Skeleton resembled a Shakespearen ghost, Bashi was the unfortunate (and very humbling) size of a thumbtack, and whilst strong, Jed dressed like you shouldn’t ask her to lift any heavy objects.

Throw him?

None of them should pose a serious threat excluding Madame Brick, and yet, brave Boytoy still stood on the defence.

“Somebody’s gonna get bit,” he’d warn in a menacing whisper, “and I ain’t vaccinated.”

He’ll give them salmonella. Or something. Definitely something.

Bashi’s voice was confirmation that the handbag hadn’t shattered every rib in their body, unfortunate, and they stand as onlookers to Jed’s debonair ascension of the fence. He notes a presence drifting closer to his side, an individual languid under a seafoam blanket of opioids. Absentminded does a hand reach to gently stabilise the swaying figure by the arm. Richie’s drug-centric ways were to nobody’s discretion, an experiment he’d watch fester throughout highschool.

So when the aforementioned drug-addled idiot is parading towards the fence like an Olympian, Ren couldn’t stop his mouth slanting, brows raising incredulously. Lips ready to object were slowly closed upon seeing Richie clambering upwards with more coherency than anyone expected.

Until he’s perched above and yelling nonsense.

“Richie.” He regrets not objecting sooner, taking a half step to the fence. With unruliness being the thief’s perpetual nature, it was almost anathema to put Ren in the position of responsibility. And he does not stand comfortably here, eaved with worry that bites like a northern wind.

“Richie,“ repeats the name, pretends his voice isn’t clipped with apprehension, “you’re gonna fall.” Pretends impassivity, that he is not a man obsessed with his own self interest, pretends that he can find himself in this crux without wanting to flee onto the earliest bus.

He stands like a spectator to a rooftop jumper, watches them dismount from the fence onto makeshift cushion Jed in a lump of gangly limbs. Exhaling slowly, he’d shrink low in his jacket like a deflating tire. And the contrast is a flipped coin, thawed surface spidering with newborn ice to be met with another taunt from the small pale roach.

"Scared, Ren?” He squinted at the Draco Malfoy above. “Bet you fall on your face!"

Evil eyes slowly lowered to Bashi’s foot.

Malicious with intent. Like a cat ready to vomit.

It would be so easy to snatch Bashi by the ankle and tear them from the fence to eat shit on the grass— no. No. That is not appropriate. Ren was different from the rowdy individual he’d been three minutes ago. He was a mature adult who would not be tempted by the evil forces of impulse. He was Sugar, after all. The sweetest little guy around.

Ren grabbed a rock from the ground and hurled it at Bashi. Heard it miss and thud onto grass somewhere in the distance.

“Sorry.” An empty apology sounded from the dark, sorry that he missed. “Had a seizure.”

Another taunt from the opposing fenceside, from an inebriated Richie, no less, and Ren was beginning to think he’d missed a memo. Was it Hate Long Haired Men day? Were there targets for Controversial Bisexuals? He’d been nothing but patient, kind, and completely insufferable to these people, and this was how they treated him.

He’s grumbling expletives by the time he hauls himself up and over the fence. Dropping over the side with less grace than Jed and quick to fall into step beside Richie, he hooked his arm through theirs in some coy play of friends, yet to outsiders, a caricature of affection; disgusting little lovebird with their favoured worm. Done so, in truth, with concerns that Richie was going to fall over without assistance. In another truth, Ren had a habit of clinging to things he liked.

And therapy was far too expensive.

“Hi.” Awkwardly lame, yet for a rarity, no manipulative manwhore drag to its syllables.

The likes of Bashi had eased into the mansion with the comfort of sleep, screaming their way over the grass and inside to make a beeline for the kitchen. Coalesced from dark into drowsy mansion lighting, Ren could drink the loud environment with rampant distaste. Spatters of the rich milled these waxen floors, and he’d actively veer from unsettling costumes while pursuing familiar faces.

For unknown reasons the group were loitering the food rather than anything of higher value, leaving a paranoid Ren standing idle in the wake of partygoers and hungry companions. Despite a capital vice of gluttony, he could not settle to pick at more than a briny olive or seedless grape; nervous as a mare and unable to stray from their solace in hunt of twinkly items. For crowds and Halloween were a sickly combination, and his interest in the luxury of large insulated glass panes and refrigerators that make ice cubes (very futuristic!) is instead consumed by thoughts of death.

In the name of the father, the son and holy spirit, Ren silently marks the cross over himself after making eye contact with a carved pumpkin.

He flutters like a moth around the kitchen, hounding after his roommates. Almost walked right over Jed, boot grating down the heel of her foot while he narrowly avoids slamming into her back.

Ren’s stare is impassive, if not mildly accusatory.

“Wasn’t me.”
As if he wasn’t the very source of a china shop bull, the very waking plague shadowing their steps. As always, Ren was never to blame.

He floats closer to Richie to pass a bottle of water into their hand, and God, Ren cannot not help but notice, he looked tired. Deathlike, a herald of copious substance. Slowly so as not to spook the man, he frowns, reaches to rest his hand on Richie’s forehead.

“You look pale,”
he fusses, realises his mistake like an afterthought. "... Paler than usual."

But they are here now, swarmed by the discomfort of crowds and sycophant conversation, and the most Ren could do was ensure they didn't collapse and die.

“Here. Have this.”
He speared a slice of pear with a toothpick, nudging it against Richie’s mouth in an annoying urge to eat. “For your scurvy.”

Followed by a cube of pineapple.

“This too.”

Wolf Thackery
The world is a beautiful place
But we have to make it that way
"See ya later, pal," Wolf finished scratching behind the scruffy mutt's ears before giving him a final pat on the head in parting. Benji's sad eyes woefully watched the young man straighten up, then turn away to check his appearance in the small mirror beside the door.

Feeling eyes on him, Wolf turned back to the dog with a sigh. "Promise I'll be back soon, okay?" He reassured his little buddy, making a hasty getaway before the whimpering could start. Wolf suddenly having a social life would be an adjustment for Benji, who, up until recently, was far more used to his master spending the bulk of his free time hanging around with him.

While feeling a bit guilty, nothing could dampen Wolf's nervous excitement for the night ahead with Emily. During the short walk to her house, he couldn't help but fret over his lack of planning for the evening though. He'd just figured they'd go grab a drink or something casual like that, not daring to deviate from their usual plans. They were just friends after all, it wasn't like a date or anything. As far as he knew. Was Emily actually hoping he'd surprise her by planning a romantic evening? Had she been dropping hints that he'd somehow missed?

As much as Wolf loved to indulge in such fantasies, he eventually decided it was unlikely. The Emmy he knew wasn't the type to beat around the bush like that. She was surely happy with their relationship cemented firmly in the friend zone, as it was. Always one to play it safe, Wolf was positive he shouldn't make any dumb moves to fuck things up. He should just be happy Emily was willing to start hanging out again after how disastrously things ended between them back in high school.

After a quick knock on Emily's door, he went ahead and tried the knob. Sure enough, it was left unlocked for Wolf to let himself in, but the cautious fellow was sure to lock it behind him, careful to keep the Gallagher home safe and secure.

"Hellooo? Hey, Gallaghers!" He called out, ears perked for a response from Emily somewhere in the house, or even Jimmy or Kenzie.

Kaz Milyukov
He's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
"Ladies." With a nod, Kaz raised his glass of Stoli to the small group of dancers that were trickling in to get dolled up for the night shift. A bit past dusk, the club was pretty much empty. There was always that lull until all the unhappily married men could finish family dinner and finally escape domesticity for a spell.

Kaz, however, was already three vodkas into the evening. Faithfully posted up at the club, of course, to judge the new recruits that had sashayed onto the stage for a chance to win a coveted spot as the next Minx Kitten. Sure, The Minx wasn't the classiest joint, but popular nonetheless, full of lonely regulars who would slink in quite frequently. A woman could really clean up there if she knew how to stroke a guy's ego while stringing him along just enough.

Unfortunately, Kaz was rather underwhelmed by the selection on offer, blithely dismissing them all one by one. He supposed this is what he got for thoughtlessly scheduling the auditions on the 31st of October. All the real lookers were probably out doing what hot girls do on this night, partying it up in sexy costumes. Yeah, he definitely felt guilty for hanging around the club on Halloween instead of with his kid. And yeah, he could have canceled the whole thing to take her trick or treating himself, but Kaz was just enough of a callous asshole not to. She was only 3 after all, he'd have plenty of time to make it up to her.

Stepping out from behind the bar after refreshing his drink, the man paused when he noticed someone loitering apprehensively in the doorway. "Ah, we got a straggler?" He spoke up, waving the girl over. A smirk crossed his face as Kaz subtly looked her over, drinking in her elegant gait as she fluttered toward him. One thing was for sure, this was the first true beauty to grace his club all day.

"Kaz," He offered his free hand to the young woman. He eyed her curiously in an attempt to size her up; she had the looks, yes, but could she dance? Could she use her body to charm the audience, to beguile, and seduce the money right out of their wallets? It would seem simple enough, but true talent in this arena was difficult to come by.

"Uri!" Cutting right to the chase as always, Kaz called out to his lackey before the two even broke their handshake. Uri quickly glanced up from the girl he was with, one of the audition rejects he'd convinced to hang around and chat with him. With a jerk of his head, Kaz commanded Uri back to DJ booth, so he may spin some music for their straggler to put on a show.

"All right, malishka," He settled into a chair opposite the stage, sitting back to get comfortable. "Ready when you are."

Who's that casting
devious stares in my direction?
The host glanced over his party guests, scrutinizing the sea of faces from his upstairs vantage point. As he descended each step, Julian pondered whether canning his assistant might be the right call at this juncture. How did she fuck up the guest list this badly? In attendance were the usual suspects, of course: various socialites, celebrities, and the upper crust of Los Angeles. Peppered amongst the elite though, there seemed to be an influx of commoners invading his mansion like vermin tonight.

The rule seemed to be all random nobodies who came correct with an attractive wouldn't be immediately tossed out on their ass. Bonus points for bringing any aspiring actresses. Julian had a special affinity for that hardworking bunch; so diligent, eager to please, and willing to do just about anything for a role.

Stepping off the staircase, Julian broke into a sly smirk at the sight of a familiar young woman approaching. A flash of the costume fangs, the one he'd slipped Dani a few extra bucks to help adhere to his canines before the party began. "Fellow vampire, huh?" He remarked flirtatiously on her costume, looking the raven-haired vixen over with a nod of approval. Quickly waving off the apology Brittany had come to deliver in her father's stead.

"No problem," Julian insisted with a playful wink. "We'd rather have you here anyway," He joked.

Truthfully, it was a relief the architect couldn't make it to this party. No doubt Avidan would want to talk business, with the producer being so difficult to reach these past few months. He would definitely be asking when his crews could start breaking ground on that new vacation home Julian had commissioned back before his divorce.

Unfortunately, the funds for such a project weren't as readily available as they used to be, mostly blown instead on escorts or tucked into some stripper's G-string. There was just nobody around to stop him from recklessly pissing money away these days.

As he chatted up Erik's daughter, a harried caterer rushed over to deliver a discreet warning about some misfits in the kitchen, seemingly foraging for food like a group of hungry trash pandas. Julian quickly excused himself as a flock of lurking older men descended upon Brittany like vultures on an injured fawn, completely unaware she would soon dodge them all and escape into the night with the same strapping redhead she'd arrived with. Too bad he failed to close the deal himself. Julian wouldn't have minded at all if Britt felt like hanging around tonight for a private afterparty of their own.

"Can I help you?" Julian asked brusquely, surveying the riff-raff with a quirked brow. He was about to continue the interrogation when he suddenly paused, noticing the statuesque figure beside him. Rather sturdy and broad, she towered over him in heels. She looked like she could snap him like a twig.

Julian was intrigued.

"I don't believe we've met," He offered a hand to Jed, along with his most charming smile. "Julian Arrington, producer."

This was not the kind of audition she thought it was.

From the moment Alessa pulled into the club she had the feeling that she had gotten something mixed up. The ad had said dancers needed and obviously Alessa had gotten it wrong. She wasn't sure what possessed her to continue on, though. Probably her mothers voice in her head telling her that any opportunity is an opportunity to pursue. That was what got her on the wrong side of town, anyway. the dancing career that had been pushed on her from the time she could walk. The only thing Alessa knew she could do.

The other girls scattered about the club had gotten the memo, though. They all stared at Alessa as she swished past them, searching for the dressing room or the owner to find out what it was that she was auditioning for in the first place. Of course she came prepared for a ballet audition, figuring that would be a safe option. Her slippers dangled from her shoulder as she walked toward the door, peering into the room like a scared child. Soft doe eyes flickered to a man who had spotted her. At first she wasnt sure if he was talking to her or someone else behind or beside her.

Lessa glanced around, quickly realizing there was nobody there, and took a deep breath before walking deeper into the room. Soon she was in front of him, looking the man up and down. There was a roughness to him that intrigued her. He definitely did not look like the kind of man holding ballet auditions. Slowly it hit her. This was a strip club. He was expecting her to audition to become a stripper. Alessa was completely unprepared.

"Alessa." Her voice was soft, close enough to a whisper that even she struggled to hear herself. The girl delicately cleared her throat, "Alessa Bardot." In any normal circumstance she would have been more sure. Confident. Perhaps she would have even curtsied as she spoke, but this wasn't a normal circumstance. This didn't call for the same kind of elegance and class that she was used to. This was a strip club.

"Oh! Uhm." Alessa nodded and moved toward the stage, her nerves hitting her more than normal. What was she even going to do? Alessa took another deep breath, deciding she would do what she does best. She pulled off her sneakers and quickly slipped on her slippers. If this man wanted a show, she would give him her favourite. Soft, slippered feet twinkled toward the DJ, whispering to him to play the main theme from Swan Lake. The man looked confused but Alessa just nodded in confirmation. That was what she wanted.

It was a dance she had done a million times. From the beginning of her career, Alessa had learned every step. Whether she was dancing solo or with a partner she knew exactly what to do. The music took over her muscles, directing her where to go as she moved about the stage in grace, her skirt fluttering softly as she went. For a moment Alessa forgot where she was or who she was dancing for. All she could focus on was the sway of the music.

The song ended and once again she was reminded of where she was as she moved back to center stage, placing one foot in front of the other as she searched Kaz's face for something, anything. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that she had failed the audition but at least she tried. She tried and that was all she could ask of herself.

THE MOTHER.

Ancient and vicious, luscious as dark velvet. It blooms in you, a poppy made of ink.

OCTOBER 31ST.

Ask Jed, and you’d receive the same kind of onyx glint from bemused expression: what would they prefer the glitter of broken glass or the glitz of crystal, the answer would be clear. Obviously to be wrapped in jewels, the glamor of little twinkling stars upon their breast.

Yes, they had an expensive taste for all that glittered and shined, but it’d never get in the way of their morals, and perhaps that was the barrier of entry into the life of velvet and gold.

That and a brood of kittens that didn’t know how to stay still – cast among the wind, the fledglings scattered, a beeline made to refreshments that Jed followed as well.

She picked up a single crystal glass of wine, swirled the sanguine liquid with the finesse of a true sommelier, watching with rapt attention more at the way the light bounced off thin and pure shine.

Pretty.

Downed in one go and then tucked carefully away, her new little trinket, lemon appetizers became victims to the ravenous appetite of a woman who’d been carefully fasting to feed her children.

Little squishy things.

While she was pocketing food carefully folded up in napkins with all the grace of a rabid animal, one eye on the Brooklyn born klepto forcefeeding his lover fruits, the other on the rat loving feral thief, she happened to notice the host of the hour.

Straightened posture, feral nature depleted. Yes, she was a fine upstanding citizen, and she knew how to work a room with all the grace and composure of a queen.

Nobility ran through her blood, pride cascaded down their shoulders.

(The little squishy things were crying a siren’s call to her, he just had to hold out for five minutes to give vague and easily interpretable decorums until the host was satisfied).

“I don’t believe we’ve met, Julian Arrington, producer.” A hand gestured out, the rattle of a snake about to strike, with the accompanying smile of someone used to getting his way – rich asshole.

… was he hitting on her?

Adorable.

A smile pulled from painted rosy lips, only a fourth faked for his pleasure as they took the hand with a certain type of grace and fragility that only a southern belle of fine upstanding character and prestige could.
And then, purposefully dropping their voice into the deepest register they could muster “M’ name’s Frank. I own a theater.”

At least, that was one of many names they went by.

“Lovely soiree you got goin’ here.” The shock effect gone, retreating more into her learned higher register – southern belle twang now entering her voice. Fancy graceful Southern lady.

Was she trying to gaslight him?

Maybe a little.

"Madame Ro, if you really insist on knowing my name."

Throw him a little bone, something closer to the truth at least.

TL;DR Jo's got a date.
tl;dr
josephine kingston
Now I am quietly waiting for the catastrophe of my personality to seem beautiful again.

Josephine's eyes scanned the room, widening slightly as she spotted her former beau wandering the apartment in a dog costume. Normally she would've chuckled, probably run her fingers through his hair and calling him a cute boy. Now? She scoffed, convinced that what was once a kind and loyal golden retriever was now dirty and ridden with mange and fleas amongst other things. This was further confirmed as she spotted Danielle in the vicinity, it was clear he was chasing after her. Fucking typical.

And of course her date was off schmoozing and getting drinks for the two of them, right when she'd have most liked to cozy up to him and show Alexei just what he was missing out on. The pair's breakup was still a nasty sting to Jo, a result of his obsession with his ex girlfriend, something she'd yet to forgive him for.

There was little that Jo hated more than feeling as if she'd had one pulled over her. And the way Alexei had swept her off her feet with promises of marriage despite being unwilling to let go of his feelings for Danielle? It was a downright scam, something that had left Jo feeling like an idiot.

She rolled her eyes at the display, visibly irrated but deciding to leave them be. Vying for a probably drunk Alexei's attention just to dunk on him was tempting, but ultimately not how she wanted to spend her date with Nick. She let out a sigh, and turned around, hoping to find her date amidst the crowd of industry people.

Sure enough, out of the corner of her eye, was Nick laughing with a couple of familiar looking casting agents in suits. They were probably in some kind of costume, but for the life of her couldn't figure out what. She sauntered over with a soft smile. "Hey, you." She grinned, wrapping her arms around one of Nick's. Approximately 10 seconds of small talk passed before Nick excused the both of them from the conversation.

"I missed you," Jo piped up as soon as they were away from the pair. "You took way too long, I thought you ditched me!" She playfully whined, her grip around Nick's arm tightening as she stared up at the actor from her vantage point.

It was no shocker to Jo that Nick looked incredible in his costume. From the way the tight black top generously showcased his chest, to his newly toned biceps, to his perfectly tousled hair, he looked as if he was legitimately the dashing leading man in a Hollywood flick. If he hadn't recieved at the very least an offer to audition by the end of the night, Jo would be legitimately floored.

Then again, that was Nick for you. Ever since they were kids he'd been too good to be true, always so sweet and lighthearted on the occasion they interacted. Way too good to be true really, part of why Jo had never considered a relationship with him until recently. She was pretty much just a friend of his sister's after all, why would he have been into her that way? She pretty much perpetually assumed he had a girl of his own when they met, convinced that he was way too out of her league.

But through some miracle, he'd actually started flirting with her, something she was still sort of in disbelief over. It was the only brightside in her whole Alexei debacle, and even an angry petty Jo knew that she'd be an absolute idiot to spend the night pissed off over Alexei when she could spend it cuddling up to Nick.

"You're so cute." She smiled dreamily at Nick, guiding him over to a nearby couch. A couple was off making out at one end, but it was pretty much the only available couch, so they'd have to make do. She leaned back in her seat. "So. How's the schmoozing going?" She questioned playfully. "Let me guess." A grin spread across her face as she shifted in her seat to face Nick. "You got a franchise right? A superhero movie. I can see it now, Mr Sexy Hairman."

Max tugged at the seam of his flannel shirt and frowned at his reflection in the mirror. This was no way to show up to a Halloween party. What was he supposed to be dressed as, a closeted gay plant nerd? A nervous quivering dork that everyone hated?

No way was he going to show up like this.

With a shake of his head and a sigh that was probably louder than he intended, Max pulled out another outfit: a white shirt, yellow waistcoat, flowing navy blue overcoat… a replica of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s clothing. This choice of costume was a bit of a simple joke on Max’s part– Beethoven was deaf, Max was deaf, it just made sense. Fiddling with the buttons on the waistcoat, he looked at himself in his bedroom mirror again. For a fleeting second, a brilliant classical composer looked back at him instead of his tortured teenage self.

Perfect. At the very least, he probably wasn’t going to get bullied for this choice.

As he headed out of his room towards the door out of the small cramped apartment his family now lived in, he was stopped in the kitchen by his mother. She clapped her hands to her face in glee, running over to her son to ruffle his hair and look him up and down with awe. “Max! You look precious!” She signed, her hands moving emphatically. “Let me get a picture for your grandparents. Oh, and I just have to show the ladies at work…” She rifled through her pockets for her phone while Max rolled his eyes back into his head. “Mom! I’m going to be late.” His hand waved backward by his side, reminding his mother that he was on a time limit.

It was her idea that he was going to go to this party in the first place. Max was pretty sure his mother had no idea what kind of party this was likely going to end up being, but somehow she’d found out about it and was now adamant that her son get out and socialize on this late autumn holiday. And, well, who was Max to argue? It wasn’t like he had anything else planned tonight, though he would’ve much rather spent the evening watering his plants and updating his blog by himself instead of getting thrown to the wolves with a bunch of his wasted classmates… and Leah. Max and Leah were friends only because their families were close, though Max was pretty sure that Leah hated him. But if Leah was there, there was a solid chance that Jenny would be there too. Jenny was a good friend… maybe this wouldn’t be so bad if she was there.

“Mom, I really have to get going.” Max stopped reluctantly posing for pictures and walked towards his mother, offering a beleaguered but loving goodbye hug. “Stay safe.” His mother reminded, before her young son turned his back and was out the door onto the scarred streets of Skid Row that awaited outside.

Just about as soon as he arrived, Max froze in the doorway and instantly began regretting his decision. The Gallinger's place was already an absolute mess-- spilled liquids and knocked-over furniture littered the room, and a crowd of teens swayed and stumbled about the space in a manner that indicated that they'd already had more than enough in their systems to half-kill them. He gritted his teeth, sucking in a breath of air before stepping in, eyes darting about for someone he recognized. It wasn't like he could just walk up and talk to anyone, after all...

This was going to be a long night. That much he knew.
