— BACKSTORY.
if her royal blood hadn't enfeebled her—for those of house antioch were historically weak in spellforce—phaedra et antioch would've been one of the greatest mages in all of the realm ihaani. however, for all her theoretical knowledge and adeptness, she was born the weakest of the weak, a null child, a defect unable to access their own life span to perform even the slightest of magics, a magus rex only in name.

her ailing mother bemoaned her lack, taking it as a sign of the decline of house antioch. phaedra grew up unloved and unwanted, raised more by the books in the library and the soldiers in her guard than anyone else, including her family. even her wetnurse was afraid of her, this girl who could not do the basest of magics, and her father, when he was still alive, scoffed when she came out of hiding to sneak food from the kitchen.

but when her father, the king, perished, and her mother grew ill, phaedra stepped in, fresh from graduating from the halls of arcana, where she was shipped away to as soon as her parents were able to, as regent to take control of the reins. a master of warcraft and lawmaking, phaedra has held to power firmly with her military prowess and her fair laws, but diplomatic relations with other kingdoms took a devastating blow. for all her cold manner helped her in drafting precise imperial edicts and issuing training drills for her soldiers, it hindered her just as much in the art of people pleasing. not to mention that phaedra fully refused any marriage alliances from other kingdoms, particularly the city-state of vassaly, formerly one of their closest allies, on account of her inclinations.

phaedra was a wholly unique regent, in equal parts a brilliant leader and a terrible one. but it seemed like she would be a good queen after her mother died, even if she was an abomination.

but then, of course, the curse came.

Name: Saela the Sixstrings

Appearance:
wLiDBZm.jpg

Age: 27

Sexuality: Homosexual

Birthday: AG 786, year of the fox

Affiliation: Herself, mostly, though she has ties to the Heriandale Academy as well.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. Saela doesn't really care for any cause greater than herself, and she mostly views things like 'honor' and 'rules' as remnants of archaic times. She doesn't go out of her way to break them, mostly because that's just asking for trouble, but she won't think twice about it if there's something to be gained (and if she can reasonably get away with it).

Vices: Arrogant, proud, speaks faster than she thinks, a habitual liar.

Virtues: Resourceful, courageous, goal-oriented, pragmatic.

Neutral: Absentminded, unpredictable, talkative, tends to look at the big picture.

History:

One of the more mysterious figures in the world of alchemy. Frankly, not that much is known about Saela's background-- which is actually quite impressive considering just how notorious she is in the academic circles, and just how much the esteemed professors usually love their rumors. One thing is certain, though. Even though Saela doesn't actually use the surname, she comes from a minor aristocratic family. Her relationship with them is presumed to be quite strained despite the fact that they paid for her education-- the name thing is a rather eloquent proof of that, and even if you chose to ignore it, nobody has ever seen her interact with her family in public. Not that Saela seems to care, mind you.

She spent most of her life buried in books, studying sciences so obscure most people wouldn't even be able to pronounce their names. Boring? Well, not exactly. Her school years were, uh, explosive, both metaphorically and literally. In her first year, Saela became famous for blowing up the laboratory and getting expelled immediately-- only to be accepted back within one week, for some unfathomable reason. (And as for why? Nobody knows. Bribes, presumably, but maybe also blackmail, or something else entirely. You never know with these things, really.) That's one of the tamer stories, too, so you can probably imagine how the rest of her studies went.

As brilliant as she was problematic, Saela graduated early, and began teaching at her university. Her career didn't last long, though-- mostly due to a series of scandals and, uh, poorly received hypotheses. (Her attempts to parallel the laws of magic with musical theory was probably the most mocked one; incidentally, it was also the one that earned her her nickname. Needless to say, she hates it.) After she left the university, Saela proceeded to found her own research society and become one of the leading experts on the treatment of various ailments.

Practically nothing is known about her personal life, however that isn't caused by reclusiveness-- rather, it's because she spins a new story about herself every other day. It is known, though, that she attends lavish feasts often and has a lot of friends in important places.
