I can't seem to start a new topic within a thread, for some odd reason there is no blue button like there usually is and it's set to discussion.

My only thought on this would be to check the permissions you have set for yourself in that particular subforum. It's quite possible that you don't have permissions set for you to make new topics.

If you continue to have issues, post a link or submit a support ticket with the link and we'll see about straightening it out. It does sound like a permissions issue, though.
