Spoken Word, anyone?

Magick

Ser Pounce-A-Lot
<p>

I've really gotten into spoken word poetry lately. Of course, I have nowhere to perform or the time or the poems prepared to do so... But I was wondering who all on here enjoyed it as much as I've (really, really recently) discovered that I do? I'm actually working on a piece right now, between my crazy university/academic life. I just didn't realize how much I enjoyed it until I watched this one TED Talk, where Sarah Kay was the host? This is the video I'm talking about, for the record. She opens with a poem called "If I Should Have A Daughter," and then commences to talk about spoken word. It's a great video. <img alt=" :) " data-emoticon="" height="20" src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=" :) " width="20" /> Anyway... any others out there? Surely there are a few. [media]

Oh, oh, oh, I love Sarah Kay. And spoken word. Here's my contribution! @Grey might have something too? Maybe @Poe?

I'm obsessed with spoken word. I did a lot in college and do a few open mic nights here and there, but mostly I like to use it during my poetry units at school because the students really respond well to it. My kids have their own little poetry slam next month! :D

But here are a couple that I always keep running back to:

My co-worker showed me both of these! Isn't Sarah's voice just poetic in itself? Haha. I don't personally identify with any groups (have a long, complicated story about problems with labels) but I have to admit that Savannah Brown is pretty decent. She's also got a unique draw in to her voice... My favorite YouTuber has posted one spoken word poem, I think...

The one about OCD... my friends and I watched that one together. Powerful. And see, I feel so weird, because I just discovered that I love it. I've been a "writer" all my life, it seems like. I was playing with stories in third grade, roleplaying by sixth... I've done theatre since I can remember... so how did I not get into this until now? Haha.

THANK YOU BOTH for the links to more poems. I'm going to have to see what suggested links come out of these.

If you like her, you definitely need to check out Phil Kaye too.

I like Dante Basco, too!

If you recognize his voice, it's because he's Prince Zuko. And Jake Long. And Rufio.

Ohhh, I found Phil straightaway. When Love Arrives is great! I'm going to check out these links when I get back from rehearsal. <3 Thank you for the extra links!

Any time! Feel free to share stuff with me as you find it, I love getting hit up to talk poetry.

Will do! I'm currently working on my own, but I've been listening to so many different styles. It really helps to hear a variety, because otherwise I feel like I only express one mood in my own. I like to be exposed. :)

My first taste of spoken word was through Sarah Kay! Her TED Talk was amazing!
