Raymond Kimura
Ray-Ray

IMG_1013.jpg
Age: 21
Species: Inkling
Gender: Male
Orientation: Gay

Personality: Raymond is the type to wear his heart on his sleeve. He's sensitive and empathetic, quick to form bonds with those around him and easily hurt by betrayals. He tends to be all bark and no bite on the battlefield, but if he catches you messing with someone he's deemed a friend or closer, he won't hesitate to stand up for them, willing to throw hands if need be, though he'll always try to talk the aggressor down first. He's dedicated to the team, regardless of whom he receives, and will work himself to the theoretical bone to make this situation work. Dedicated and reliable, Raymond isn't going to back down to the competition, and expects the rest of the team to do the same.

History: Raymond comes from a family of three, with a younger sister and a single mother. His mother was always busy making ends meet, so he took over the role of caring for his little sister, Ana. He got her to school, even when he went to a different school, would make her lunch every day, and would always show up to her band concerts. The two were inseparable. Bullies frequently picked on Ana for her used-looking hand-me-downs and frail disposition, meaning Raymond frequently got into fights at school and on the playground, protecting Ana from their ceaseless torment.

Things took a turn for the worse shortly after Raymond turned eighteen. Ana came down with a fever that simply would not go away. With none of the medicine working, their mother had no choice but to take her to the hospital. The doctors weren't sure what was wrong with her, and she was admitted so they could run frequent tests and take care of her. Raymond visited her as often as possible, bringing what small trinkets or books or media he could to help keep her entertained. But the medical expenses were quickly racking up, meaning both Raymond and their mother had to work multiple jobs now to get by and start paying off her bills.

It wasn't until Raymond visited his sister one day to find her watching professional Turf War players that he got a bright idea. He didn't really have the money or time to play often in his youth, using equipment borrowed from a friend, but if he trained hard enough, perhaps he could enter the Ink or Sink Open and become a professional player. Then he'd have plenty of money to pay for the bills, and then some. For a while, it had been but a pipe dream, but three years after being admitted, Ana was released to go home, as her condition had improved enough to not warrant constant supervision. Between shifts at Salmon Run, Raymond would take to the Wars, working his way up the ranks and scraping together enough money to purchase his own gear. Eventually, he managed to snag a deal on a one room apartment near where the Festival of Colors would be held, and sent out his ad, hoping someone would reach out and join his team. It may have been a pipe dream before, but now he finally has his shot.

Preferred color: Pink
Preferred weapon type: Chargers, with a secondary preference for shooters, and buckets as a last resort
Most disliked weapon type: Rollers and brushes. Too mobile.
Preferred game mode: Rainmaker

*~~~Character Sheet~~~*
Pretty Kai.png
Untitled_Artwork.jpgphotossss.pngKai.jpg

Male | 4'7 | 75 lbs.

~Basics~

Name: Kai
Age: 19
Species: Octoling
Orientation: Bisexual

~Appearance~

Preferred Ink Colour: Purple
Eye Colour: Magenta

Complexion: Medium Skin Colour
Clothing Style: Tends to go with a comfortable yet cutesy style of clothing that leans a bit of the preppy side. Enjoying buttoned-up shirts, cardigans, and sweaters the most.

~Background~

Preferred Weapon Types: Shooters (preferably gals) and Chargers.
Preferred Game Mode: Rainmaker

Personality: Kai has a very reserved and introverted personality. Preferring to watch people from the sidelines rather than actually going out and talking with others. He has a very nurturing nature, always helping out others if they ask, and worries a lot about his friends in ways that a parent would. Such as eating habits and other various things similar to that. Outside of turf and battle, he can come off as a bit clueless at times. Wandering off to things that catch his eye the moment he sees them. Meaning he gets lost and off-track a bit more than one usually should. He can also be a tad stubborn at times.

History: Much like a lot of Octolings, he was born in Octo Valley and served in the Octarian army since he was young. Along with his twin brother, Elliot. Because of that, he's been homing in on his combat and weapon skills since before he even really knew how to talk. However, he's always been a bit of an oddball compared to a lot of his comrades. He trained hard but never tried to do much while on the battlefield. He didn't like fighting people for real. So, he often got into a lot of disagreements with others. And while he was never really one to argue back, no matter what was said he still refused to do something that is he didn't want to. And after getting fed up with it he and his brother finally decided to leave. Running away to a place called Inkopolis at age 16. That laid just across the ocean.

The transition from octo valley to Inkopolis was challenging. The culture was just so different. Not to mention the foreign language. Inklish was always really confusing. But that didn't stop them. They had both managed to make a bit of money before leaving and were able to rent a small apartment together. From there, it was all about making a living. Kai ended up working several part-time jobs at once. From some shady place called Grizzco to then becoming a waiter at a cafe once he was proficient enough in the language. He was quite surprised at how good he was at being a waiter. Despite not being much of a talker, he has a perfect customer service smile and knew what to say to try and make others feel comfortable. As long as it was routine interactions weren't that bad.

About two years later, once the two brothers were perfectly settled into life at Inkopolis, Kai wanted to try the popular turfing sport. He's been seeing and watching so much of it on TV and on the news. But he has always been a bit reluctant since it reminded him of actual battling. It was exactly like that actually. But here, it seemed to all be a game. And so, after convincing his brother, the two started playing turf. And of course, with professional training in their respective weapons, Kai using shooters and chargers while Elliot mainly stuck with rollers, they were naturals at the sport.

Moving onto current day, the two still play turf wars fairly often. Making a decent amount of money from it. However, Kai has been wanting to get more serious while his brother stayed more casual. And what's a better way to get more serious than joining a team for the upcoming tournament! However, actually finding a team to join would be the hardest. He didn't know too many people. And his brother didn't want to play in the tournament. So it was up to him to find his own team. Which was surprisingly easy. He stumbled upon an ad for someone named Raymond looking for teammates for this very tournament. So, naturally, he accepted right on the spot. Excited for the chance to finally be on a serious team!

Extras:
- Has a twin brother named, Elliot. He's the pink octo in one of the ref photos.
- Had worked a total of four part-time jobs at once. Grizzco, a Cafe waiter, a technician at Sheldon's, and a housekeeper.
- To save money, Kai has learned to cook to avoid them having to eat out all the time.
- He's a bit of a neat freak. He's literally a nagging mother
- Still plans to work part-time as a waiter while training for the tournament. He's dropped the other jobs to focus his time more.
- He likes to crochet.
- Is able to understand Inklish fluently, but still speaks in broken inklish a lot.
- Even if he's temporarily moving out, he still pays his half of the rent for his and his brother's apartment.
- He has a decent amount of money saved from his years of work. So he's fairly secured as of now.
- He likes growing out his tentacles. He wants them to be super long one day!
- (May add more later!)

03
personality

As a big sister to the inklings and octolings, Kaede is something of a role model for the less experienced. Her natural friendliness and approachable personality make her an excellent listener, despite her incapacity to speak (communicates via sign language). This makes Kaede a helpful emotional sponge for those who may need someone to talk to. The care and love she has for those around her is very evident in the way she treats them and she is very motherly to those who know her. As a whole, Kaede is a very polite individual and respectable in every respect.

Kaede, however, changes completely on the battlefield. She plays with the same level of aggression and decisiveness as her older brother. On the battlefield, she tends to convey an air of calm and control, which can be used to intimidate her opponents. Whether in turf wars or ranked games, Kaede is a formidable opponent, often finding her way into the opposing team's base, taking the initiative at the start of games, and showing no remorse for her splats. Additionally, her infamous glare has been linked to countless near-death experiences, particularly during times of fierce competition.

However, as soon as she steps away from the battlefield, she is back to her cheerful self. Kaede does not even hold grudges against players who have splatted her, despite seeming to do the contrary when in competitive mode.
04
backstory

When Kaede was growing up, she loved watching her brother train for turf wars. When he practiced alone, he would let her hold his splattershot pro and teach her a few tips he had learned from his mentor. Although he tried to convince her, she was unpersuadable, and initially, she was uninterested in joining her brother in his quest for X rank. Contrary to her brother, Hiro, she spent her days practicing singing and dancing and dreamed of becoming an idol like Callie and Marie. Though, she would constantly strain her voice to the point that it hurt to speak and soon damaged her vocal chords beyond repair. Unfortunately, she had to abandon her previous dream, but still took no interest in Hiro's love of turf war.

Nevertheless, Hiro's first match sparked her interest in the sport. There was something about the adrenaline, the competitive nature, the art of covering a battlefield with ink and splatting opponents that drew her in.

As they ascended the ranks, the siblings practiced until they were exhausted almost every day for the next few years. As soon as they achieved S rank, they gained traction due to their cooperative skills and aggressive playstyle. They became mini-celebrities within a short period of time, with inklings and octolings swarming them after a battle with congratulatory cheers and compliments.

On the night before becoming X rank, numerous arguments took place until the siblings were barely able to stay together. When Kaede realized Hiro was becoming more competitive and domineering, she wanted to quit, but Hiro persuaded her to stay until they both became X rank. On the next day, the siblings were at odds with one another, unable to coordinate their moves as they once did. As they were infiltrating the enemy base, Kaede accidentally broke her ankle as she ignored her brother's orders out of spite. In the wake of their defeat, Hiro immediately blamed her for losing the battle, their rank, and their dignity.

Kaede and her brother did not talk during Kaede's recovery days. Both siblings, who would never be found without the other, went through a tough time during this period. Despite this, they refused to speak or apologize to each other out of pride. Honestly, she never spoke with her brother again after that battle. Kaede moved out and ceased participating in turf wars and ranked games after she was able to walk again. To escape the stress and hurt feelings associated with the sport, she left.

Her desire to return to the city was sparked, however, by watching the games on TV.

After hearing the announcement for the annual Ink or Sink Open, her desire turned into a stronger drive and she moved back to Inkopolis. However, she did not have a team and would rather die than reconnect with her brother. She was on the verge of giving up after days of failing to find a team. Then she came across a flyer advertising spots for a team and she couldn't resist contacting the one in charge.

Her skills were somewhat rusty, and she didn't practice much following her downfall, if at all. However, she was determined to win the tournament, not for the endorsements and fame, but to prove to her brother that she was not a disappointment.

Name: Shawn
Age: 21
Species: Inkling
Gender: Male
Orientation: Bisexual

Appearance:

1660342823693.png

Personality:
Shawn places a lot of stock in honesty and trust. If he respects you, he'll go to heaven and hell for you. If he doesn't like you, he won't spare a minute of his time to deal with you unless he has no other choice. Still, he prefers to look for the best in people and generally assumes people are good. A hard worker and a terrible liar, he's always looking for ways to improve his skills.

Outwardly Shawn exudes confidence and positivity. He's always happy take any roll but enjoys taking the lead in any situation. Sometimes though, shawn seems too confident. While he has the skills to back up his brash moves in the ink games, he's been known to push the envelope and taken too many risks (risks that often result in losses and arguments with the people he'd been playing with). Failures like these hang on him, though he tries hard not to let it show. Always telling himself that his only option is to put on a brave face and keep pushing without thinking about troubles. It's kept him going this long, but sometimes he worries he'll one day crack.

History:
Shawn never knew his mom, and while his dad was as good a dad any inkling could ask for, he never told Shawn much about his mother. Growing up shawn was outgoing, always trying new things, and very active. He made friends easily, keeping them was another matter. Somehow they always seemed to vanish from his life, rarely lasting more than a year. Bad luck, changing interests, moving to new places, something always seemed to split him off and put him back on his own. Then he'd try again, and the pattern would repeat. If anyone would ask Shawn would say it was a good life, full of many things and that life'll probably give him a break one of these days.

As Shawn grew up there was one activity he always returned to: Turf war and its various ranked competitions. He loved the energy of it, the techniques, reading the other team's moves, team combos, it was just so much FUN. And even more, if he got good enough he might be able to win competitions for money. He'd always wanted to have enough money to get the freshest gear and clothes. His dad as a single parent had never had enough money for the real nice stuff, and Shawn had often dreamed of becoming wealthy and letting himself and his dad live in a real nice house with the freshest stuff.

So Shawn took every chance he could to improve his skills. He tested weapons, he researched play styles, then he started experimenting. Determined to find a way to play that would catch his opponents off guard and give him edge. As he rose through the ranks he found that many players relied too much on swimming in the ink for their movement, and started focusing on his running speed. He learned to 'dance' with the rainmaker to dodge attacks and run without wasting time inking a path for swimming, he learned to ride and use the tower as his shield to stay alive longer, he learned to throw an auto-bomb to corral enemies out of their defenses. The more he learned, the more excited he felt about up and coming competitions. The only problem: he couldn't find a team. No one seemed to want a random person who'd never been in a proper competition before. So when by chance he saw a notice from an inking named "Ray" asking for team members, Shawn knew this was his chance. He sent a message to Ray introducing himself and asking to join the team.

Preferred color: Yellow or Green
Preferred weapon type(s): mainly uses all-rounder gunner weapons like the Nzap, likes ones that have Autobombs as their sub. Used to main the slosher, but hasn't used it in a good while now.
Preferred game mode: His favorite is Rainmaker followed by Tower-Control

Other:
He's a huge fan of Dedf1sh, but tries not to nerd out about them too much.
Doesn't like hats. Things like headbands and goggles are fine, but for some reason he just doesn't like hats.
Gets easily flustered when it comes to anything to do with romance.
