Species Guidelines

In the world Orion High School resides in there will be a diverse range species, and because of this here are some guidelines we staff members expect to see on pages with unique/uncommon species. Now, there doesn’t have to be a whole page dedicated to your species, but we do want to have enough information for us to judge and for common members to not get confused. Plus, information on your species can just really help with the whole experience of the roleplay and give some lore.

Powers/Skills – Is it a common thing for your character to be immortal, or is that something that only parts of the species has? Perhaps they can gain more abilities as they age on, like a unique way of puberty for their species; just instead of biological advancement their abilities increase as they age and/or train more. There's also skills, such as if it's common for your species to be extremely fast or have higher intelligence than others.

Strength/Weaknesses –  This relate to Power/Skills above. When it comes to strengths, are they very good at hiding themselves in certain areas? Maybe they're capable of learning magic spells quicker than other species. For weaknesses, is your character vulnerable to certain types of gemstones? How about they can't breathe underwater, so they must remain on the surface all the time. For every strength please put a weakness that's equal in power. Don't say that your character has the ability to suck the air out of a person's lungs instantly, yet their weakness is that you need a specific rare gemstone to weaken them. Let's also try to avoid characters with huge weaknesses but small strengths. Such as your character being able to be killed by almost everything instantly, yet their strength is that they run faster than the average human. Another thing to consider is how common and vague the weakness is. Being sliced in half is a weakness most characters would have. Being thrown off a cliff and dying is also a weakness that most people would be vulnerable to.

This category can go in either your character's weaknesses or species weaknesses, as either way it applies to your character in some form.

How many are there? – This basically tells us how common your species are. Information like this can help characters interact with one another, such as some people instantly knowing your species because they’re common, or finding your character very weird to look at because they have a low chance of even existing. It can be sort of confusing if your species is very rare, yet multiple character seem to instantly know who they are. It can also be just as confusing to have a common species, yet everyone treats them like they just existed yesterday.

Appearance – Simple things: characters that look like common members of their species, characters that have deformities or unique traits their species don't usually have, etc.

Origin – Where does your species come from? Do they populate this planet, or maybe only one small island? Please keep your species grounded to Earth though. This doesn't mean they can't have homes in, say, the sky or ocean. This just means species that come from space, alternate universes, different dimensions, etc. This can complicate the roleplay and make it very hard for staff members to judge whether we should accept or deny, especially when it get in the way of the lore.

Interaction with Others - Does your species have a friendly relationship with other species? Maybe there's a well known stigma about them, such as all vampires drinking blood or all nymphs being lustful creatures. Perhaps they're so unknown people wouldn't know how to respond when they see them.

Extras – An optional category in case you can’t get everything about your species in there. Maybe some fun facts, like your species having different languages or a power/skill that isn't important enough to be a main point.

Warning - If you decide to have a character that’s of an already made species (werewolves, vampires, succubus, etc.), please don’t change huge things about their lore. Don’t say that your vampire is able to warp all the elements, or that your werewolf can turn into any kind of furry creature without limits. Try to keep your character close to lore, but don’t be afraid to spread out a bit. For example, instead of saying they’re just a vampire, make a species that’s vampire-like or is a sub-species of vampires. This way you have more creative freedom without changing too much of the vampire lore.

This warning is just here so people don’t put down a species that’s already well known, then change it to the point people are confused.

All staff members are open to helping you create your own species or flesh out one you already made. Please don't hesitate to send us a pm, tag us in ooc, tag us in Discord, or tag us in your character sheet if you're stuck during your creative process.
