Spawn Campers?

Rereading through the DB and Siddie books, and reading through a few of the threads here, made something click inside my warped brain.

Okay Usurpation: 300 Solars killed, 10-20 essences escape the prison to be reporn more often than is really good for them.

Siddies note this, they then create the Wyld Hunt

They use the Loom and whatever other methods they can accomplish to work out where these essences will Exalt someone (considering the essence will look for a host as soon as the last one croaks...)

In short The siddies are using a maphack and getting the Wyld Hunt to camp the spawn points

Really epic, huh?

Over the past few centuries, the Wyld Hunt deals with far more Lunars than Solars--10-20 Solar essences floating free, compared to ~300 Lunar essences.

True, but I don't think those 300 Lunars have the same turn-around as those 10-20 Solars.

Assuming that the Lunar is rescued, tattooed, and initiated, what then? He's free to go about Creation and the Wyld, to carve out a niche for himself.

That part is where I see the low survival rate...

True, but compare this to the nigh certain death sentence handed to each Solar reincarnation from the Shogunate to modern Age of Sorrows date.

The siddies can't predict with total accuracy when some one will Exalt, only that they have a good chance of it.  There are just too many opportunities for a mortal to display what the solar essence is looking for, and there are many mortals beyond the reach of the hunt, and not enough siddies to camp on these people.

It's just a matter of numbers.  Of course the siddies can spot a solar once it does exalt and is still soft and squishy.  I think this the main source of help that the siddies do.  Wait for the 'Solar Exalt" flag to fly over the loom, then send in the hunt.  After all, the siddies are the Masters of Fate and the astrologies they place to spot a solar are infallible.

It does take many years for a solar to grow powerful enough to become a very dangours foe, so there is plenty of time for the hunt to catch him, or an assassin to find him.  If they don't manage to get themselves killed without any help.

Yeah but they did have a lot of Wyld hunts

Enough to keep one near every major Spawn point

Remember Destiny 3+ chars are incredibly rare

the world has a population in the 50-100 million region

destily 3+ are one in about 10000

so 5-10 thousand people

of those at least half will have some kind of deformity that will make them unsuitable

2,500 - 5000

maybe 1 in 10 will have the innate wildness or Bornn to be kings exceptional giftedness needed for exaltation

250 - 500

of those a fifth would be kids who can be camped later

200 - 400

another similar amount would be so old as to be very unlikely, and can afford not to be camped

150 - 200

and half of those would be unsuitable due to destinies and personalities where they would not have the will to wield the power of Exaltation.

75 - 100

now assume a wyld hunt of 6-8 DBs to camp on each prospect produces about 600 or so DBs required for this job

The Immaculates always had at least that many

Along with many half caste DBs and other god blooded

If you go with the prospect that a hunt will be near every exalt, then the games all start out the same.  "Let's roll initiative.  The Immaculates win, you die.  Make a new character."  Also, why does the Solar have to be crushed immediately?  Why not let it grow a bit so it is a challenge to the hunt and thus hold the fear of Solars over the DB's.  If the hunt only came across baby solars, they would quickly lose their fear of them.

Also, with a Wyld Hunt camped nearby, that my deter the events which cause the person to Exalt, or it may be the chaos of their presence which brings about the Exaltation.   So looking into the weave for cause and effect leads them back to themselves.

yeah but that was WHY until the release it was so screwed

ya see even if they have a hunt near every solar they can't guarantee it gets them during their exaltation

and the sudden raise of the number of essences meant that the rate of exaltation raised

along with half the hunt members being called back to the isle by their houses

the hunt only was so strongly stocked while the emperess was still alive

The Wyld Hunt is a shadow of it's former self... Not to mention that the Wyld Hunt in its former glory would *still* be hardpressed to keep up with the Solar Exalts popping up all over the place.

That's interestingly debatable.

If the Empress had remained when the Jade Prison was sundered, it's entirely possible that she could have directed more resources towards the Wyld Hunt. Bronze Faction support would not have been attentuated by the need to keep an impending civil war at bay.

Indeed, and hell, the ol' girl used to go on Hunts herself. So me thinks there would be no shortage of hunters.

Nobody knows. The empress was no pawn of the bronze faction, she was an ally. She could very well bump into some charismatic solar who saves her from the ebon dragon and makes her reconsider her old allies.

I doubt she saw anyone as her overlord, she must be a really proud woman, after all she meddled with powers clearly beyond her own for the better part of a millenium and came out on top most of the time. making kejak bend his knee before her door was no small feat to start with.

Should the Circle succeed, they may not find the Empress properly grateful.  If there's ever someone you don't to owe you a favor, she's likely to be on top of the list.

Here's an alternaate plot twist. The Circle jumps through all the necesaary hoops, storms Malfeas, and rescues the Empress. During the whole adventure, the Circle starts to get the sense that her guardians aren't trying very hard to stop her would-be rescuers. This is accentuated by the fact that, as they are about to escape with the Empress in tow, twelve 3rd Circles block their path...then silently move out of it, permitting their egress from Malfeas.

If the Circle is imaginative, they'll come up with all sorts of reasons all by themselves why the Ebon Dragon wanted the Empress to be rescued...

Knowing my Zenith he would end up Killing the Emperess if that occured

but then again, he is realm born, and having the scarlet cloak would make him go for one of his character goals
