Something Gotta Give

~Seth Lamn~His dazzled eyes scanned over his surroundings the tiny ranch houses looked so little compared to the woodened barn that lay ahead even though the cabin like houses had two bedrooms and everything else to live in ease. Smirking lightly as the darling Miss Thompson pasted her fanal shirt unbuttoned just enough to let his eyes wonder down. The sexy swing to her walk and her cocky bright smile made his half-awake eyes grew bigger. Seth tipped his hat in respect of such a beautiful woman like herself. "Good morning sunshine." He said with a the tips of his pearly white teeth. She smiled brighter stopping and walking towards him begining to trail her fingers down his chest. He swallowed hard before unwantingly speaking, "Darling you have a man remem-" He was voice shut down as she brought her lush lips to his jawline. He sallowed hard once more pulling back hesitantly. "I'm sorry darling." He was still recovering from a hangover, but he has learn to deal with them through the tough years. He made his way down to the stables to start the morning chores, his Justin boots grinding against the light gravel here and there on the dirt road, thick trees to the right and left. He took one last glance at that skinny gal as he pulled the double barn doors open. He was waiting for this day, new people were suppose to arrive. Miss Thompson had ran all the girls pretty much out of this little Wyoming town.

Scarlett took a deep breath in, eager to inhale the air in this small town almost in the middle of nowhere. The air was so crisp and smelled pleasant and this overwhelmed her. She was used to the tight crowded streets of the city and if it was at all possible she was almost afraid of the openness of everything around her.

It had all been getting to be too much for her. Twenty five years old and she already had an ex-husband. Where had it all gone wrong? Scarlett frowned. It didn't matter anymore. She had fled him when she left her secure life. She abandoned her disappointed mother and her father who was trying not to bring up the fact that he had paid for a wedding that had led to a marriage that had dissolved so quickly. She had left everyone behind and it was a relief. There were no expectations for her out here, she could be whoever she wanted to be and she could do whatever she wanted to do.

What she wanted most of all right now was a burger. It had been an exhausting morning and while the moving van was empty her new house with the intimidating mortgage still didn't seem to look like it was hers and she was exhausted from trying to make it look like it was.

She loved the fact that she was able to walk to the nearest restaurant. It was quaint and adorable and Scarlett couldn't help but to grin. After ordering from a pleasant-enough waitress Scarlett smiled claiming her seat. The waitress had been kind and the interaction had left her feeling relaxed. The stress of the city, of expectations, of burdens had melted away. For the first time in a long time she felt as if she was able to be herself.

When the burger finally arrived she began to tear into voraciously as if she hadn't eaten in years and she when she was finished eating the waitress didn't bother her. The waitress wasn't pushy or angling for tips and meandered through the restaurant dealing with other customers in a relaxed manner allowing Scarlett to watch out the window. Maybe it was just the burger in her stomach, but she was feeling optimistic. Today was going to be a good day she found herself thinking as she contemplated treating herself to dessert.

His rough hands were just just locking onto two salt blocks stacked onto eachother before he heard what he thought what was a familar voice that he didn't want to. Without paying much attention his hands slipped from the blocks allowing them to jerk onto his upper foot, even through his steel toed boot it still hurt like hell. Wincing lightly he turned around seeing two girls, asking pretty much the same questions. They both wanted to board their horses at the ranch. He recollected from being so off-guard for a split second before answering them one at a time with a light smirk. "Yes we have a few open stalls, if your dog gets along well with others I can't find anything wrong with keep him here if you wish. This goes for you too darlin you two need to meet with the boss woman. Mrs. Summer herself. Good luck. Just this hallway to the left the door well say 'Hells door please knock'" He snickered faintly. They were clearly sweet girls but nothing really impressed him.

After finishing the morning chores around the barn Seth speed away to the bitty diner just a few minutes away to get lunch. He could hear his stomach begging to be fed over the country station that blared in his mudded up Ford. Soon enough he was walking into the diner before sitting down on a barstool. He loved sitting at the bar because of the waitress that worked the day shift. She was one of those girls that you can just tell by her eyes she had a dream bigger then this little town. "So you still saving for that black mustang shug?" He asked with a simple smile. The waitress just nodded laughing lightly underneath her breath as she placed his sweet tea infront of him. The younger gals over heard before one chimmed in saying, "I keep telling her to undo a couple buttons. Start showing off what her mama gave to her to get more tips." He couldn't help but **** his brow as he took a sip of his drink. "Shug you go ahead. I'd rather stay poor." His favorite waitress snapped back. For this girl the world is wide open and she's okay not knowing when the better plan is going to fall into place. He nodded his thanks to her as she handed him the cheeseburger and fries. He couldn't help but look around the diner for a split second everything was in place besides one thing. A new woman was setting in the booth where him and his ex girlfriend used to eat. Something was just a bit off. She was more classy dressed then any girl in there. When he finished his meal he wipped his face with the napkin before reaching over the counter throwing the papper plate away so the waitress wouldn't have to.

He was about to just walk out to get back to the ranch but something just didn't seem right about not introducing himself to the new woman in town. He walked up to her booth carelessly before giving a friendly smirk. "Ma'am I'm Seth. Seth Lamn and yourself? New right?" He asked reaching out to shake her hand out of kindness.

Scarlett had been staring out the window trying to absorb as many details about her new home as she could when a voice drew her forward into the present with a slight start. She felt a slight blush creep through her cheeks as she realized how she had just jumped and at just someone introducing himself.

She dragged her warm brown eyes reluctantly from the window towards who was addressing her. She couldn't help but to feel irritated for a split second. She had been so clearly distracted and it had been nice for her to pretend that the whole world didn't exist if only for a second. She allowed herself to acknowledge how good-looking this man was for only a mere second before she began to speak. She had given herself this moment to objectify Seth with her eyes, but the moment was over and that was all she was allowing herself to have. This town was going to be her home and she didn't want to allow herself even a remote chance of ruining it over some guy like she had done to her last home.

"Howdy." she spoke and grimaced immediately, "Oh god that sounded so wrong coming out of my mouth! I'm sorry." she apologized profusely allowing herself one gracious moment of looking down at her plate before she glanced back up at him. Why did she greet him that way? It seemed right considering how southern and pleasant this town was and the pleasant twang in their voices. But next to them, her own manner of speaking sounded rushed and aggressive. She couldn't help but to feel as if her attempt to use the word 'howdy' would be intrepreted as something derisive and mocking when she had simply wished to speak in the manner that the people in this town did even if she was doubting if most people even used that word.

"My name's Scarlett. I just moved here. I got a job teaching up at the school house when summer's over. It's nice to meet you Seth." she pushed her seat away and she stood up catching his eyes as she shook his hand. After she shook his hand she quickly rummaged through her purse and came up with enough money to cover her food and leave a generous tip. Once she had tossed the money onto the table she returned her attention to Seth.
