Soma is an energetic and optimistic young woman who has the constant drive to improve her cooking, mostly due to her strong relationship and rivalry with her father, Joichiro Yukihira. She is confident in her skills and always seeks to challenge others to prove her abilities and test the limits of her cooking. However, this, along with her courage and recklessness, usually ends up with her being in situations that can jeopardize her entire cooking career. She remains positive and cool under pressure, never backing down from a challenge and is always constantly thinking and evolving her cooking. While she is generally friendly and cheerful, there are times when she shows a darker side to herself, though they are few and far in between. When she was accepted into Hope's Peak Academy, she was reasonably angry with her father for enrolling her without her consent, since she was planning on becoming a full-time chef for her family diner once she had graduated from middle school, though she resigned herself to her fate when her father stated that if she wanted to beat him, she would have to survive that school.
