Tell the mirror what you know she's heard before,
basics.

full name : Joanna Alice Pembroke
alias : Annie - Jo
sex & pronouns : Female - She/Her
age : Twenty-four
birthday : June 30 - Cancer
sexuality : Demisexual Panromantic
occupation : None
role : the princess

visage.

skin : pale and dewy, usually with the scent of rose and peaches
eyes : cerulean blue
hair : blonde - nearly platinum blonde
height : 5'5"
weight : 133 lbs
physique : slender, curvy, muscle-less
faceclaim : Emilia Clarke

psyche.

likes : galas - gardens - oceans
dislikes : losing emotional control - practicing etiquette - dinner parties
fears : losing her freedom - spiders - insects
hobbies : painting - dance
habits : biting lip when focusing or interested - playing with hair
personality : Annie is a person who could be described as "full of whimsy". She enjoys spontaneity over routine and causing mischief she can get away with. She's not afraid of running through the puddles in the rain or getting her hands dirty. She speaks her mind rather freely, when she is able, and doesn't like to hold her tongue. Often times she might come off as rude or snippy but that is just a part of her radiant personality. She can be a very sentimental or sensitive person when one gets to know her, valuing interpersonal relationships and family more than material objects.

While she has a more childish demeanor, Annie was raised by a duchess first and foremost. She has extensive knowledge of proper etiquette, language, and how to present herself to others. The girl can be quite formal and reserved when she has to be as if it were night and day. She does feel trapped by this life in that regard. Her parents are more willing to marry her off to someone of their status than they are to allow her to follow her dreams.

other.

background : Born the only daughter and child to one of the many princes of England and his wife, the duchess of Lancaster. With royal blood running through her veins, Joanna was raised under the precepts of a princess. She was trained daily in etiquette and worldly knowledge, learned different forms of dance, and even how to address the people at a young age. Many believed life was easy being raised with a literal silver spoon from birth but there was a lot of work that went into it. She wasn't allowed to make her own decisions or present herself in any way other than what was considered desirable. Every aspect of her life had been dictated for her from since her conception.

At some point in her youth, her father fell ill and did not recover. He passed after a heart attack and her mother wept for years. They were allowed to remain under the protection of the royal family simply because Joanna carried their blood. Otherwise, they would have been cast right back to where her mother came from. She retained her title and by the time Jo entered her teen years, her mother had found a new husband. Joey's father, a wealthy trader who owned a booming port company. He controlled a vast majority of exports coming through Lancaster and dominated the field. Joanna had been skeptical, and remained as such long after the wedding. Her mother was happy at the very least so for the time, she'd suck it up.

The coming years were difficult adjusting to no longer being an only child but being the youngest one at that. Joey was the polar opposite of her so it was difficult for them to get along. He saw her as nothing more than a spoiled child and she saw him as someone a bit too stiff. She spent years trying to make it work between them, many thanks to her mother forcing them to get along, and eventually they began to tolerate each other. They still have a strange chemistry where it is difficult to show they care but they both definitely know they do.
I don't wanna be you anymore.

03
personality
There is so much a lady should not be that it seems impossible to encompass all of these vices at once, and yet, somehow by the grace of whatever divine being exists above, Catalina manages to do so. It is not that she lacks the ability to recognize the impact of her behavior on others. Catalina is far from dense or self-centered; in fact, her natural astuteness and observational skills would seem to make her even more perceptive of the public's discomfort or disapproval. She simply chooses not to care.

Where as a lady should be outgoing, compassionate, servile, artistic, considerate, and elegant, Catalina is reserved, indifferent, assertive, athletic, blunt, and lively. Years of judgemental stares, both at her behavior and status as an immigrant, have persuaded Catalina to keep to herself. She enters every extravagant room with the notion that her existence bothers others regardless of whether or not she expresses herself. As a result, her presence is hardly felt at parties, yet she somehow always becomes the target of belligerent harrassment. Thankfully, the noble lady is thick-skinned, internally and externally. She remains calm under pressure, lest a few unpleasant and extremely unladylikeโ€”but trueโ€”words leave her lips, choosing silence over her other options at parties and gatherings. High society requires tact and elegance, two things the French noble lady struggles to wield. Her indifference towards... almost everything really is how the walls she surrounds herself with choose to express themselves. It is better to be detached than hurt by letting yourself get too close; that is a lesson Catalina knows all too well.

Painting is a mess. Poetry is a jumble of words. Music is a cacophony. Always embarrassing herself during high and refined activities, Catalina struggles to be interested and usually doesn't try acting like she is. But in the presence of the outdoors, Catalina comes alive under the name of Maeve. Her eyes brighten, steps lighten, and a slight smile widensโ€”a small semblance of a young, naive girl returns. She becomes assertive and dominant, unafraid to lead a hunt, and feels alive. She becomes lively, if not a bit rowdy, far more loose-lipped, and highly protective of her party. Constantly juggling between the reserved Catalina and the passionate Maeve, only one thing is for sure: do not give her commands. She'll do everything in her power to avoid it, if not spite you in the process.
04
backstory
Owners of the Blondin name are easily identifiable throughout France: sleek ash blonde hair has run through every generation of the family since its founding. Is it any wonder why Catalina was an outcast from birth? With locks as dark as night and natural waves, rumors and disdain were aplenty. It was clear that the madame of the house was not her madame.

So as a child, Catalina had little of the lessons that were expected of nobles. Besides the basic literacy, arithmetic, etiquette, and history, because it would be more embarrassing for the Blondins to have an uneducated illegitimate child than just an illegitimate one, Catalina was free to explore as she wished. Her father was simply wrapped around the madame's finger, too busy gawking to deal with the problem he brought into the household. He paid no mind to the treatment she received, treatment that was worse than a commoner child worker. And although it hurt Catalina, she eventually grew less attached to the family as her younger, and legitimate, half-brother was spoiled rotten by virtue of his hair. Nature became her solace.

She snuck around the manor's fields and forests, morning or night, and growing more and more comfortable with being alone over time. During this time, Catalina picked up the bow. How? That is a tale she refuses to confide in anyone. Maybe because she simply doesn't have anyone to trust her story with. Nonetheless, the rest of Catalina's childhood was spent practicing her hunting skills or being neglected. The moment she was of marriageable age, her family began the arrangements. She might've been a disgrace, but she was a valuable disgraceโ€”one that could be used as a bargaining chip.

A shame she never learned any... attractive qualities. Catalina quickly developed a reputation for her rapid-fire engagements and cancelations. France's wild child. Almost every echelon of society was speaking ill of her and her family. In a way, it was Catalina's way of getting her revenge on her parents, but they were not done yet. Catalina was shipped off to England the moment she was deemed an old maid at the ripe old age of 22. It was a fresh startโ€”one that allowed the immigrant to establish herself among the hunting community as Maeve despite their disdain and ridicule of her. For a woman with a silly accent, she sure could shoot. It was a lucrative business, and although her family sent her enough money for a decent lifestyleโ€”as long as she continued to go on their arranged meetingsโ€”Catalina was far more comfortable without relying on them. Besides, her matches in England were just as futile as in France which both frustrated her family and somewhat dampered her spirits despite what she said. After all, freedom is exhilarating, but it becomes monotonous alone.
05
relationships
Catalina has a strong disdain for her father, the madame of the Blondin household, and a slight distaste for her spoiler younger half-sibling. Their meddling in her life angers her greatly, and she takes great risks to spite them or render their plans futile.

Catalina isn't exactly well-acquainted in England, especially with her tendency to not be the starter of conversations, but she has a great bond with her hunting party. They have taught her a great amount of English and tease her about her funny pronounciation at times. Without them, Catalina would not have found her escape from reality. Having established herself as a reputable huntress, they are all like brothers to herโ€”the caring kind she never had. She has no female friends, and barely any acquaintances, that would ever request her presence at gatherings or parties.

so, this is love?
โ›i have a deeply hidden and inarticulate desire for something beyond the daily life.โœ

โœฆ LAVINIA โœฆ

โ€” DOSSIER.
name: lavinia marianne huxley
meaning from lavinium. in roman mythology lavinia was the wife of aeneas, and thus mother to the roman people.
nicknames: lav | a nickname given to her by her sisters and only responds when they refer to her as lav. everyone else is corrected swiftly.
age: 24 years old
sexuality: pansexual
pronouns: she/her
birthdate: february 17th
occupation: heiress

โ€” VISAGE.
appearance: lavinia has curly, midnight black hair that she prefers to keep in various updoโ€™s. she mostly keeps it up to keep it out of her face and because itโ€™s easier to deal with that way. she takes care of her hair, leaving the curls bouncy and soft. her eyes are soft, perhaps even a little sad behind her cool expression. theyโ€™re framed by long lashes and are the color of earth. lavinia has vibrant, dark brown skin. itโ€™s soft and often smells of her favorite scents, vanilla and brown sugar. beneath her expensive dresses, lavinia has a figure thatโ€™s similar to a pear. sheโ€™s taller than average, standing at 5โ€™9โ€.

โ€” PERSONA.
personality: society knows lavinia as the respectable eldest daughter of the huxley family. poise and grace has been ingrained into her very being. lavinia carries herself with elegance. like any who has been born into high society, her back is as straight as a rod and her head is held high. for such a young woman she seems so sure of herself and what she wants in life. she is a bit of a mystery to those around her.

unlike her socialite mother and charming little sisters, lavinia prefers her own company rather than the company of others. when attending the usual ball or gathering of high society, lavinia will mingle just under what is considered acceptable and then disappear for the rest of the night. she can often be found within some secluded corner or on a balcony. people tend to drain her energy rather fast.

within her thereโ€™s a curiosity, a longing for something more than what life has to offer her currently. lavinia is very interested in the world around her, she wishes to travel, to learn all that she can. but she keeps this side of herself under lock and key. she knows how society feels about outspoken women, how they view woman with more on their mind than bearing children and looking their best.

โ€” HISTORY.
background: lavinia was lucky enough to be born into a family as wealthy and prestigious as the huxley family. it was obvious that she would want for little, that she wouldnโ€™t have to lift a finger in life. should she choose to lavinia would be able to live off of her familyโ€™s money until she got married, their fortune stretched into lifetimes. as a child lavinia had the typical life of a noble child, an important one at that. while her mother was out socializing and her father tending to his businesses, she was often looked after by a governess. lavinia was taught everything ranging from math to etiquette. she excelled in school, much to the pride of her parents. it was literature that she adored, little lavinia could get lost in the books she read. tales of brave knights, of monsters, and faraway worlds filled up her book collection. it wasnโ€™t long before she moved onto non-fiction as well.

for a time, life was bliss. lavinia was something of a shy child. her mother would push her, encourage her to make connections during play dates and socialize just as she did. but much to her frustration, lavinia preferred to be on the sidelines. to her motherโ€™s disappointment, she didnโ€™t grow out of it. the two of them didnโ€™t meet eye to eye often and as a result her mother became all the more controlling. lavinia remember mother scolding her, ripping her books out of her hands for dirtying a dress after sheโ€™d sat under a tree to read. it worsened as she got older and time came for her to make her debut.

her first night didnโ€™t go well. lavinia will never forget the stares, how she had to listen to boys her age go on and on about themselves in hopes of impressing her, how they hadnโ€™t asked about her or her interest. she has made the mistake though, of revealing her love for literature, her intelligence and sheโ€™ll never forget the humiliation after. a lavinia vowed to keep herself off of the market, to never marry for as long as she lived. her feelings didnโ€™t change as seasons passed.

when her sisters were born lavinia was tasked with looking out for them, guiding them in life. she took her duty seriously and became a rock for them, she stayed strong for them, offering a shoulder and wiping their tear when they cried. the three of them loved eachofher dearly and it showed. and lavinia kept her motherโ€™s attention on her, getting into arguments so that her sisters looked better.

Age. 24
Sexuality. Bisexual
Pronouns. He/him
Birthday. October 23th
Occupation. Noble Heir

Personality. Endless lessons on etiquette and decorum have fallen on carefully listening ears; raised to be an idol of politeness, Artemio carries with him an air of dignity and grace that is like second nature at this point. Perfectly natured, trained in all rules of the social game and educated in the halls of the most prestigious learning institutes in England - and yet unable to talk out of strictly dictated social interactions, acting so terribly anxious as if he has not spoken before in his life. A stark contrast to his outgoing cousin, Artemio is a shy, awkward man, ready to rant about any academic topic taking hostage of his mind - and yet running away from intimate parties and interactions like they might hurt him physically.

Background. Having grown up as the sole child of one Lord and Lady D'aureville, Artemio was raised in a coldly formal, yet undeniably caring family. Perhaps his parents never talked to him like to a child, but like to a man of his standing, but they never spared any expense when it came to their son. Education and long hours spent into the night pouring over dusty books and scriptures were the hallmark of his dawning years, only rarely interacting with children his age in a context of play. The only exception was his cousin - Brooks, his much more energetic counterpart. If it were not for him, Artemio would have never gotten into all of the trouble they caused during free hours of the day. Children no longer they might be, but their bond remains. And so does their dynamic of Artemio trying to stop Brooks from unavoidably wreaking havoc.

Artemio has yet to succeed in that, but he is optimistic.

psyche

There are two people: who Althea tries to be and who Althea yearns to be. The woman Althea tries to be is stoic, stately, and prideful. She has a sharp wit, but this wit limits itself to the conventions of ladylike humor. This woman is competitive (with other noblewomen), and she is neat, valuing organization and cleanliness above all. This woman is, in actuality, not real. This woman is a projection of her mother's ideas. The girl that Althea yearns to be (and actually is) is naรฏve, yet intelligent. Self-conscious, but very passionate about her craft and her ideas. So much time being forced indoors has left her somewhat apprehensive, but she's more than willing to be brave when an adventure presents itself. Where there is fear, there can be courage, especially with a push from someone she trusts. She is tenderhearted and, despite her demure exterior, quite opinionated. She is not stoic or stately, but rather eager and starry-eyed. A little clumsy and prone to giggling. Some might say juvenile, as there's still so much out there for her to feel, learn, and witness. This girl bleeds through Althea's faรงade constantly.

These two versions of Althea are at war constantly. Although Althea feels that she can't admit it to anyone, she wants the youthful girl to triumph over the prideful lady. Yet, she feels stuckโ€”stuck by convention, expectation, and fear. Her passions are evident in her brush strokes, but will she muster up the courage to show them by being that starry-eyed girl she tries to hide? Is she willing to disappoint Mother so she can be true to herself at last?

virtues

Observant, creative, tender, starry-eyed, eager, intelligent

vices

Apprehensive, diffident, vulnerable to pressure, naรฏve, has a faรงade, capricious

likes

Art/painting, the idea of romance, watching operas, the countryside, intimate conversations, getting to be herself

dislikes

The person she feels pressured to be, industry (smoke, metal, soot), staying indoors too long, boredom, philistines

fears

Failing to live up to her mother's expectations, yet she also fears living up to them and feeling unhappy and untrue to herself

03.

history

Althea was born in early spring to Alfred Marigold, a successful industrial tycoon, and Delphine Marigold, a famous opera singer from France. She was the youngest of four and the only girl. She was doted on by her three older brothers and specifically her mother. As soon as Althea was old enough to walk and talk, Delphine took on her upbringing like a passion project. Since little Thea was her only daughter, Delphine was determined to make the girl into the ideal noblewoman: a reflection of Delphine herself. She tried training her in the art of opera performance, but little Thea was terribly shy and dreaded being on stage. Her eldest brother, Walter, gifted her canvases and a set of finely made paints for her sixth birthday. She fell in love with painting almost immediately. She began painting things around the Marigold residence and in the countryside surrounding it.

Delphine's instruction didn't stop there, however. Little Thea (just "Thee" to her brothers) had strict daily etiquette lessons on top of the typical schooling for a young girl of noble status. Althea felt suffocated by this curriculum; all it seemed to do was chastise her for having fun. Because of this, she and her mother were constantly at odds, though it usually ended with Althea acquiessing when her mother brought out the waterworks. After some time, Althea became resigned to repressing her whims and emotions. She developed a certain meekness in front of her mother and the general public.

Whenever she had free time away from these lessons, Althea either painted or spent time with her brothers. Her father was usually away for business. While her mother tried to tame her passions, she felt that her brothers embraced her as she was. Walter in particular encouraged her to practice her painting and foster her curiosity. Seeing how eager she was to learn about art, he took her to galleries and schooled her in art history. Sometimes, when Delphine wasn't within earshot, he would say to her: "I know Mother desires that you be a certain way, Thee, but please remember who you are when you're with George, Earnest, and me. Remember to be true to yourself, because if you're not you will live with many regrets."

When Althea was twenty-one, just a few months before she was to debut (she would've debuted earlier, but Mother insisted that she was still not ready), Walter died in an industrial accident. All of the Marigold family was devastated, but Althea in particular was completely broken. Feeling lost and alone, she entered a grieving period that lasted two years, during which she painted and painted. Before Walter's death, she had been trying to conform to the popular style of Neoclassicism, despite the fact that her heart yearned to make different art. After Walter's death, she abandoned all inhibition and her style changed completely. Unlike her peers, she began painting common subjects and paying attention to the effect of movement and light on perception. This is part of the reason she receives criticism in the art world now.

Now, Althea has emerged from her grieving period, reassured by the thought that Walter would want her to be happy. Without Walter around, it has been easier for Delphine to pressure and manipulate Althea, although she hasn't forgotten her brother's instruction to be true to herself completely. How will being at Maplebrooke Estate change Althea? Will it change her greatly? Irreversibly?

โ€œA cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.โ€ - H.L. Mencken

Perhaps heโ€™d always been this way; Cold, a little unsure of himself and yet claiming otherwise, cynical. Why, if there were ever an antonym to rose-coloured glasses, Monroe Wong would be infamous for sporting them. A sort of signature look, like a celebrity. But with a career built upon the dreary expense of others, itโ€™s only just for the detective to home a dreary presence himself. An often gloomy and tired-looking individual, Monroe is a man of very few excitements, very few passions if you may. His work however, would forever remain a more favoured subject of his; Even now when the cases have become more and more menial, he cherishes his investigations with a fondness akin to a father and his very first newborn. Although deep down, this transition does pain him, watching himself grow more and more irrelevant by the minute, disregarded, unneededโ€ฆ At times itโ€™s enough to keep him up at nightโ€” and though he may never acknowledge itโ€” the pang in his heart still remains, longing for attention. Just like he had all those years before.

There has always been an air of nonchalance about him; a sort of casual indifference- a tranquility in stark comparison to some of his other housemates. But his lackadaisical nature and mild demeanour often makes it quite difficult to get a rise out of him for, well, anything- whether good or bad. Thus providing the impression of dullness, as if he were a mere rhinestone in a room full of diamonds. But as they say, rhinestones shine just as good as diamonds.

From the very beginning Monroe knew that he didnโ€™t quite fit in. He was, to put it harshly, the strange child of the courtyard. The one who was taken by insects and encyclopedias, tales of mystery and tragedy rather than whatever brutish activities the other boys were up to. They rarely ever bore him any mercy.
At home it was all quite the same, dinners at the table were filled with superficial attentions and selfish retellings, where the fault was never present and the privilege blinded, his own seat often overlooked. itโ€™s true what he says yโ€™know, heโ€™s hated diplomats ever since he was a child.
Eventually itโ€™d become clear as day that Monroe did not yearn for the same extravagance, did not crave the same lavishness that his parents and elder sister had oh so desperately indulged in. He was, in many ways, the black sheep of the star-studded Wong family. Always told to โ€œact normalโ€ and push aside his passions for the sake of the public, always demanded to sacrifice his genuinity. And as soon as heโ€™d become of age, he left.

โ€œGoodbyeโ€ was all the note had read, frantically they had flipped its carrier over and over, twisting and turning it as if more would spill out; desperate eyes in search for clues, answers left by their resentful son. It was all rather ironic, even funny had he been there to bear witness. But alas, thatโ€™s all he had left to say. Goodbye. And as he walks back up the pathway heโ€™d once walked up a thousand times, to a house that was all too familiar, he wishes he hadnโ€™t been so smug.

โ€œI feel the need to endanger myself every so often.โ€ - Tim Dally

Adventure was his first love. It was the high school sweetheart that ceased to stray from the crevices of his mind, the sirenโ€™s call to his sailorโ€™s trance. After all, we never truly forget our first loves, do we? Night after night he pursues it with the hunger of a mad man; brutish, untidy, lacking in maturity. And night after night he returns, his thirst even greedier than before. It seems that some people never do grow up, do they? But itโ€™s what he fears most, isnโ€™t it? Growing up? To watch his former classmates wilt with every passing birthday, every wedding & every child was like watching a nightmare unfold right before him; the colours of youth had drained and instead, had left a pale corpse within its haste. Like zombies theyโ€™d stir, dragging their feet across the cobblestone to weakly dote on whatever measly infant was awaiting their presence. The undead were rising, and heโ€™d be a damn fool to join their army.

But like any troubled person, his reluctance to bow toward fate, to permit the future, sprouted from a deep fear of one day resembling his parents. He did not want to become his mother.
Although, with the way he was raised heโ€™d always assumed that heโ€™d end up gruesomely unhappy in a similar fashion, perhaps even worse so. Only, he much rather preferred it happen with a drink in his hand and a sunset painting the skies rather than in a nightmare.

history

For a child who seemed to have everything, he lacked the simplest, most inexpensive gift of all. The love of his mother. Although, living in the confines of one of the most notorious crime groups in all of England had done well to distract him, keeping him occupied and her impression still pure. But as he watched his peers bloody their knees with childish incidents, as he watched them cry to their mummies and nuzzle their heads into their bosoms, he felt the hole in his chest widen, deepen with every comparison. And as ghe time went on his feelings toward his mother had begun to sour. For it was not the countless impudent lovers whom sheโ€™d sacrificed her own priorities for, it was not the self-destruction nor the sudden & unwarranted brutalities, no, it was the fact that he had no one.
At the end of the day, the brazen class clown whom offered a piece of his heart to everyone, returned home to no one
