Futuristic Skypirates: A New World

Zelmalic

Three figures sat in a dark room, a number of files sitting in front of them.

"Choosing a new crew it always a pain in the rear ain't it?" one of the figures moaned as they shifted through a variety of applications.

The second figure gave a huff of an agreement. "Too good and you leave other crews wanting, not good enough and you are wasting a ship."

The third man sat silent, tossing a file he had been reading behind him, obviously dissatisfied with what was held within it.

"Maybe we are going about this wrong," Vincent remarked. "Lets just go piece by piece with the options that we need from the top down."

The other two nodded in agreement, with Valic pushing forward a small dossier on Diana Slone.

"This one embodies the ideals of freedom over confinement. A life with everything on her platter and she comes to us." Vincent asked.

"Could easily be a spy, you sure you trust her?" Eddie asked.

Valic laughed and leaned forward. "You haven't heard the hell that is being raised over the fact she has gone 'missing'. If she is a spy then they are hiding it well."

With that said she was placed at the front of other documents.

Eddie picked up a file he had in front of him and placed it down, revealing Arthur Ahlborne. "Good blood gets you places, and he isn't half bad with a Flight Frame. It would be stupid not to take him on."

Another name to the pile.

"A good pilot can make or break a crew, and I believe the little toy we took from that research base might make a good testing ground." Eddie put forward Lamb, causing Vincent to laugh.

"You think a doll will work well enough as a pilot?" he asked in all seriousness.

"Its sole purpose is to be better then people when it comes to flying ships. I don't like the government any more then you two, but they know their shit when it comes to weapons." that seemed to be enough for Vincent, who put Lamb with the other files.

Valic lifted the file of Elijah Flint putting it on top without a single word.

Vincent frowned as he flipped through the files."A former government ace gone rouge, are you really confident in something like this after-"

Valic didn't respond with anything but a well placed glare that cowed Vincent into silence.

Vincent grabbed the files containing the information on Gregory Graves, putting it forward. "He is a bit out there, but he does good work. Even if his hobby is a bit...odd."

With those files put forward and the rest set aside the three looked over the files. "The lack of soldier and chef are troubling, but otherwise this is a strong crew. Lets just hope strong enough to meet our expectations." Vincent stood up and waved his hand, activating a holopanel and rapidly typed information into it, sending messages out across the landmasses. Each one contained coordinates meant for the eyes of the applicant only, and a single sentence.

"Live Free and Soar."

Deep within Ranram's many towering piles of scrap lays a hidden launching area unknown to even the deepest government spies, meant as the birthplace of new vessels sent out for their first missions. From around the world a crew was gathering into this hanger, each leaving their own stories and lives in order to create a new one aboard the ship that had been offered to them. The time for doubts was far past, as the last mechanics left the doors opened to let the new crew into the area, where they would find a message waiting for them.

Before the crew stood a holographic message left behind by Vincent Freeman, the worlds most notorious Skypirate, wearing a large grin. "Ahoy mates, welcome to the family," the hologram pointed behind itself toward the ship. "She might not look like much, but once yah give her a name and test her out I think you might end up falling for her."

The recorded face dropped as he continued. "Now I am sure you are wondering what to do first with this nice ship, and I would like to make a formal request on behalf of this little confederation of ours. A member of our little family has turned traitor and started snatching people from their homes to sell to people who are happy to look the other way for free labor. Not only that the lunatic grabbed some children of nobles and a bloody Spectre. Take him down and blow his ship away, and the hostages are yours to turn in, not to mention the gratitude of the Underworld."

The message flickered for a moment. "Hell these things never record much as you want. Regardless of anything else don't forget, we each live free but Skypirates stick together, so as a little hint toward finding the dog we have given you his ships homing beacon, so long as the ship is alive you can track it."

With that the message died out, leaving the crew to bask in the glow of their new ship, and in the presence of one another.

diana slone - captain
Surprise was a miniscule emotion when compared to what Diana had felt upon knowledge of her acceptance. The taste of freedom flooded her mind for what seemed to be hours. Her head buzzed with the revelations of what was to come.

A nagging emotion pulsed at the back of her head. The beginnings of a worrying thought was quickly pushed away. She had countlessly reinforced herself, preventing herself to think of her father's disapproval.

Diana would prefer not to let her insecurity get to her in the face of such an adventure.

As she had arrived to the designated area, the new Captain allowed her eyes to roam over the premises. It was nothing less than a marvel, the workings of which only vaguely familiar.

Before her stood a holographic message depicting a pirate that could only be Vincent Freeman. He was known by most who decided not to live under a rock of misinformation. A famous one, he was most definitely the member of the SkyPirates who had his named whispered and shared by all.

She had let herself assess the others before her briefly, noting the presence of an odd little android as well as someone with a rather strange headpiece. The others were most definitely interesting as well. Diana wondered how they would all cooperate (or not) within the workings of the ship.

As the hologram pointed towards the ship, Diana trailed her eyes over. It was most definitely a large ship, able to fit most of the crew. The ship was mostly rectangular in shape, with two wings stretching out on both sides. Massive, but seemingly a bit worn down.

It was but the request Vincent had described that called Diana back towards the hologram. The word of the situation was not as shocking as she had expected. The whispers of the people had come up with their own theories; to see this was the reason behind disappearances of people was not hard to believe.

As the hologram finished its briefing, the woman turned towards the crew, placing a hand on her hip.

"It looks like we've got one hell of a task to complete," she jested. "Might as well get ourselves acquainted now if we're going to spend time on that ship."

Diana's eyes flitted over the crew members. "So, what are your names and what's the purpose of you being here?"

It was strange to be back in Ranram. Elijah hadn't been here in six months, and a strange sort of homesickness came over him as he flew over the colossal piles of rusting metal and discarded junk beneath him. He'd had almost nothing in Ranram, choosing to survive off the streets rather than risk the government finding out about his off the books assets. It had been a hard three years, but it still seemed to him to be one of the best times of his life. He was absolutely free of any sort of authority or law, nobody cared what his actions were. Sure, life was rough, but at least he could make decisions for himself.

Now though, here he was accepting a position on a Skypirate ship. He still didn't quite know why. As much as he didn't like the New World Government, he still had apprehension towards the Pirate Federation, or any authority for that matter. But when he'd heard about the application for a new ship...he just couldn't pass up the opportunity. Perhaps he was getting bored. Maybe he just wanted combat again. Maybe he wanted the glory of rising from the bottom again. It could have been any number of things. Maybe he wanted a family again. No, he thought to himself, I can't think along those lines.

Soon after, he'd guided his flight frame through the complicated series of tunnels and passageways to get to the launch bay covertly. He'd left his PAX to be attended to by the assorted mechanics and workers dashing about the bay, and went to where he saw a bunch of people gathered, correctly assuming that this was the briefing. He cast a quick glance over his new compatriots, but had to give his full attention to the hologram in front of him. The hologram was of the poor quality common for delivery 'grams, but it was impossible to mistake the face of Vincent Freeman for anyone else. When he'd been in the Corp, he was the most wanted man alive. And when he'd moved to Ranram, he was the most respected man alive. He listened intently to the briefing, and mild surprise came to him. A turncoat in the skypirates? Not at all uncommon. But one who managed to grab a Spectre? That was unheard of.

After the holograph ended, a woman who had been standing nearby watching the briefing turned to face himself and the rest of the crew. She had an air of authority about her, and her opening statement was certainly true. They had quite a task ahead of them, if this guy had the skill to nab a Spectre. As she asked her question, he spoke up.

"The name's Elijah Flint. As for the second question, philosophers have been asking that for an awfully long time. Can't work it out myself, perhaps one of the others has it figured out." He gave a small smile. "Not that I think you meant that. I'm a Flight Frame pilot, ma'am. I assume you're my new captain, given your... confidence. The packet's they sent didn't give too much information, aside from an inspiring quote about soaring and these coordinates."

Gregory stood with the rest of those destined to be his crewmates. He listened intently to the hologram. As he listened to what would be their initial task he cocked his head to the side briefly. The woman he assumed to be their Captain turned to them and spoke. Again he cocked his head when she asked for introductions without first introducing herself. Elijah was the first to introduce himself, a flight frame pilot. Gregory flicked a switch on the black box on his hip and after some rhythmic yet mechanical breathing he spoke. "Gregory Graves, surgeon."

So this was it, the beginning. For the foreseeable future they would all share a ship with him. A ship with no name, how would they decide that? It was an important decision. One decision after the other, Gregory reflected on the decisions that brought him to this place. His education, his experience, his calling. Until now he had been working with a rather despicable group of criminals. While their lifestyle kept his hands busy, he found their practices reprehensible. It was time for a fresh start and to think he would find that as a Skypirate.

His mind was awash with ideas of what they might experience. Pirate Gregory Graves, what a title indeed. Never in all of his years did he think this would be the case. He looked around at the others and wondered who they where, what they were capable of and more importantly could they manage to get along. Gregory hoped this would be one of his best decisions. Gregory Graves, Pirate. He was going to need new business cards.

"Lamb" - Engineer/pilot

"Sky pirates..? Hmm.. You must be a specialised branch then." The robot said in a kind and gentle voice, assuming that this was all just another part of the new worlds government. Her knowledge of the universe and all that was in it was quite limited, the only thing she really knew about was ships, all the details stored in her technologically advanced mind and containing stockpiled information on any ship that was currently in existance. "Ooh! That's the interceptor type-5! Quite a dangerous ship for a simple retrieval mission.. Quite a significant amount of firepower." She mused, her smile never disappearing as she looked up at the somewhat dull-coloured ship. "Looks a little worn though.. I could set to work cleaning it up." She suggested, but made no judgement of her own.

The blonde android stretched to look at her own back, flicking open a small panel to enter the information of the ship before closing it again, viewing this as simply normal after being told countless times by the scientists and engineers that had created her that it was perfectly fine and normal.

"Greetings miss! I am Lamb, the most efficient worker you'll ever see! However This will be my first mission, I've spent a whole lot of time training though!" Lamb introduced, hands crossed behind her back as her soft red eyes glowed slightly, scanning the other crew members of the ship and inputting their appearance into the back of her mind for later. "I'll work harder and for longer than anyone else!" She boasted happily through the large amount of husske and bustle going on around her as other sky pirates set off on various other duties.

"Now then, where are we? I only woke up precisely three hours and forty seven minutes ago and last I checked I had been put into the government ship! I guess this was the destination? Well I won't let you down!". Lamb asked, finally taking in her surroundings after all the chatting she had done. "I presume I shall be the engineer for this crew, as I am most efficient at that, however I may be capable of handling the driving of the ship! Thank you for allowing me on board!" She laughed, her posture never changing, and while her voice and face showed the words were genuine, her body language certainly didn't. She was a prototype after all, unfinished, but close enough to being finished that she could be released

A new crew, A new Life, And a new chance to continue his search. That's All Arthur could really think about as he stood there with the rest as the Hologram spoke. this one was his third. His first He walked away from. while the Second bit off more than they could chew. Now this third looks interesting and they were being endorsed by the Federation, something he never had. looking at all the faces, Arthur has never met nor heard of any of them, Except one. Eyeing Flint, Arthur studied the EX-NWG Frame Pilot as he listened to the Hologram. He was curious, why did he leave the NWG? or did he even leave? it was weird. The man had everything. Status, Excitement, luxury. what made this man decide he didn't want it anymore? all things he will have to figure out later. Right now, he has a briefing to focus on. Apparently a pirate has gone renegade and has stirred up the hornets nest. even going as far as taking a Spectre hostage, if that's even possible.

Turning to a Woman who decided to take charge after the Hologram ended. Arthur could only assume that she was to be his new Captain. 'Here's to hoping shes better than the last.' He silently prayed as she asked everyone to introduce each other. As the group did so. Arthur chuckled at flints little philosophical remark. As lamb finished her little introduction. Arthur decided it was time for his.

"The names Arthur Ahlborne. Like Mister Ace, I'm a Flight Frame Pilot." Pointing at Flint with his his thumb. "Now I have a question. Before I step foot on that Airship. What are we naming it? I mean its bad luck for a ship to have no name."
