--Days Before--

A pregnant silence pervaded every inch of the plane that was to escort John Garrett - The True Clairvoyant - to SHIELD's fridge. Grant Ward (officially recognized as "Agent Ward" before the publicized fall of SHIELD), sat across from the the sociopathic narcissist that had once been his Superior Officer, and the man whom had saved him from himself.

Ward was characteristically silent, and facially impassive; minor cuts and abrasions marred his features. He could hardly bear to look his former S.O in the face; doing so only enhanced his inner revulsion at the very thought of Garrett's growing lunacy. He admired the man who had saved him from a life of imprisonment and shame, the man that taught him all the skills that he knew. But Garrett's insanity grew more evident as the years went by, and not even his good works maintained Ward's loyalty.

"You know what I'm thinking, Agent Garrett?" Victoria Hand suddenly spoke, stirring Ward from his brooding. "I'm thinking the Icebox and the Fridge are a little too comfortable for you. Maybe we should put you a little deeper underground. What do you think, Agent Ward? You've shot the wrong Clairvoyant before... care to shoot the write one?"

It took a moment to register what she'd just asked of him. His expressionless visage belied an internal surge of shock. She wants me to execute him... just like that? But fixing his eyes on Garrett once more (who looked as surprised as Ward felt), inner revulsion took hold once again. He doubted Garrett could change - he was too far gone at this rate.

He stood, admitting a cool intake of air as he withdrew a pistol. His stomach was met with a pang of disappointment as he raised the firearm to Garrett's head, knowing that his S.O was expecting him to betray SHIELD, to reveal his stance as a sleeper agent of Hydra.

He pulled the trigger, the shot audibly reverberating within the plane. Garrett's face had little time to register his surprise as the bullet cascaded into his skull, killing him instantaneously...

--SHIELD Base: The Providence--

"Agent Grant Ward,"
Grant quietly uttered into the base's securtiy coms, eager to get out of the cold of the base's mountainous setting. He wore the very same, onyx jacket and shirt as he did on the plane, and a pistol as well as an ICER was holstered at his side. His injuries had been treated, shown by the small, protective bandages on his face.

Finally, he thought to himself as the Providence's entrance finally opened, having accepted his identification. At that, he hurried inside.

It feels like it’s been days since Coulson ordered Skye to make the team non-existent, to turn them into ghosts. Agent’s of nothing. Clean slates for all of them. It’s something Skye has done numerous times for herself, for others. She manages to get Coulson to allow her to call Ward and at least let him know he doesn’t exist anymore. Doing this to all of them, after everything that they’ve been through, feels wrong, it feels like they’re letting the trigger happy military guy win. Like they’re letting Hydra win. She does it anyway because that’s what Coulson’s ordered her to do.

But had she known earlier that afterwards she’d be trudging through the Canadian Wilderness and knee deep snow for hours, she might have reconsidered the order. They were following coordinates left by a dead man to gods knows what and she was freezing.

Huddled together Skye, Fitz and Simmons are at the middle of there merry little party, May and Coulson leading the group and Trip is taking up the rear. When Coulson finally stops the gps, the only piece of tech they’ve taken off the bus besides weapons and Fitz’s tablet, beeps obnoxiously letting them all know they’re at the coordinates, and it’s the middle of know where.

Coulson and May are arguing, they haven’t stopped arguing since they’d found out May was in contact with Fury. It’s frustrating for everyone watching because they’ve manage to get very little done since that point. Skye can’t help but feel like she’s watching her parents go through an ugly divorce or something.

“There’s got to be something here! This means something!” Coulson is shouting shaking his S.H.I.E.L.D badge at May angrily. “This has to mean something. The world needs us!”

They don’t know who to trust, but that doesn’t matter because Hydra is back and the world needs them. No one is arguing with him because they all know it’s true.

Angrily Coulson hurls his badge into the air. The shot rings out sending pieces of the badge flying everywhere. They all hit the floor on instinct. May and Coulson dive behind some cover, Trip hauls Simmons behind cover and Skye is pushing Fitz behind the nearby rocks. The shot has left the three tech members of the team with ringing ears and pounding hearts.

Everything happens really fast after that, Coulson stands up and approaches the gun, that surprisingly doesn’t shoot him but lets them into the secret base. When Skye looks at Coulson the man has the most smug expression she’s ever seen, on his face.

————————

Their introduction to the secret base is brief and whenever any of them asks a question, it’s deflected by Agent Koenig. The reasoning is always the same, because they don’t have their lanyards yet. Skye’s almost certain that every time he says those words Trip and May mentally shoot him and FitzSimmons has done worse considering what all of them have gone through to become S.H.I.E.L.D Agents.

She isn’t thrilled with how the short man speaks to her either but it isn’t anything she isn’t used to from S.H.I.E.L.D Agents at this point.

Koenig leaves them alone to ‘recover’ once the tour is over and Coulson follows him out of the room they’ve been left in for a private conversation. Koenig has just confirmed what they already knew, that Fury is dead, Skye knows there is more to it then that but she’s tired to argue and only just regaining feeling in her fingers from their stint in the wilderness.

Eventually sometime later with Koenig’s approval May leaves to go bring the Bus into the hanger and he allows them to send Ward the coordinates to the base, knowing that the plane that has been their home for all this time isn’t going to be sitting out in the middle of know where for anyone to find and that the remaining member of their team will be safe with them soon, seems to set everyone at ease. At least somewhat.

They sit together in what can only be described as some sort of cafeteria, waiting for Coulson to tell them what to do next, waiting for the Bus to be brought inside, waiting to hear from Ward.

His entry into the providence was met with a comfortable blast of heat. Warmth rose in his fingertips, filling him and granting him mercy from the cold outside. He eyed his surroundings with a small grin, drinking it all in.

Someone's been busy, he mused, raising his eyebrows. Continuing forward down one of the many hallway's, he sought out his team, wherever they may be.
