Shift

Name: Shane Tift

Age: 19

Parents: Robert Tift, Tia Tift (Previously: Tia Mason)

His mutation was a curse in his eyes, the forced experiment of Simon Stagg. Rex Mason definitely found benefit in these abilities, despite originally coming to conflict with the Justice League, he was able to later assist them for many years. In truth, before the incident, he missed being in action, saving lives, and now he was able to do far more than any solider.
As the years passed, however, he longed to be cured of this disorder. He longed to be a family man; watching those he saved rejoice causing somewhat of a longing. Eventually a cure was found which finally reversed the process, though he believed it to be a combination of said cure and his body neutralizing over time.
Despite returning to a normal state, Rex still worried about the possible effect his previous condition could have on his child. Though he and his wife were getting close to that age, and there wouldn't be much more time to decide on the matter. His daughter, however, showed no signs of the ability, a relief to the former superhero.

Driven by her father's past, Tia Mason flourished in the field of chemistry, always eager for hands on work discovering new useful chemicals. As she matured she also wished to settle down with the man she loved. She dreamed of a large family, finding being an only child to be rather lonely at times. Even while pregnant she continued some of her work, to a lesser extent of course.

When her first, and to be only, child, Shane, was born, all seemed well for the first few moments, beside a strange green ring of a birthmark on his wrist. Quite heavy for a baby of his age, the doctors took him for some standard examinations after allowing the family time with the child.
These examinations, however, gave strange results, results that had been seen before... A minute sign of the condition Rex had previously had revealed itself in the child, and over the first year of his life, showed to be increasing. Over the years Tia attempted to use the cure previously administered to her father, as well as other means, but to no definite success. It was unclear if it had slowed down the spreading of his 'mutation', done nothing, or perhaps even increased it's pace.

Shane never knew his grandfather, Rex Mason. He had died a few months after Shane's birth due to natural causes. Some believe the guilt he felt was the deciding factor, blaming himself, believing the condition still existed dormant in his daughters genetics. Though he was quite old as well.
His daughter, however, blamed herself. Believing her career involving extensive uses of chemicals acted as a primer. Hindsight haunting her previous decision to continue working, even if it was only for the first few months of pregnancy.
Regardless, it always upset Shane that he could never meet the great Metamorpho. Even though that wasn't who he was in the end, someone who knew what it was like... That's all he wanted growing up. A mentor. But he had no one to properly guide him.

As he matured, so did his powers, the outer-layers of his skin changing to different elements, granting him a patterned appearance, similar yet different to his grandfather. His abilities developed slowly, rather than instantly, perhaps an effect of the different medicines, or simply because he was born with it, rather than altered to have it.

By the age of fifteen he found he could alter his body to some of the major elements of the human body, such as carbon, but only in a solid form. He was taught to fear his powers, however. His mother coddled him, fearful that he would not be able to lead a normal life. She was proud of her father for all he accomplished with his abilities, but she knew if it wasn't for the cure he would not have been able to continue on happily.

Shane always had a great interest in his grandfather's glory, as well as being a fan of the old members of the League. His mother tried not to encourage the boy, but his father, Robert, still told him of Metamorpho's feats from time to time. Robert often reminded his son that he should always do what he felt was right, and to strive toward his aspirations.
He truly feared the possibilities, yet continued to sometimes experiment with his powers. Unsure at all times.

That was until he saw it.

The news reports of the massive battle of Alcatraz were on every station, ongoing coverage, lines being cut-off as fool-hearty reporters flew their choppers too close to the action. The massive amount of tragedies hit Shane hard for someone not involved in the slightest. What if he had been there? Honed his abilities, and used them to assist the Justice League? He could have made a difference, but instead, he sat there, afraid, afraid of his own gift.

No longer. He would no longer wait around hoping to one day magically turn into a normal boy. This was who he was, he knew what was right, and doing nothing was not it.
A spark lit up in him, he aspired to help those who were under threat, by any means. He began to practice with his abilities every week, and got more serious about his mixed martial arts.

For the next few month he constantly pestered his parents, demanding permission to try to join the League in some way, but was constantly met with denial. Finally they gave in, stating he would have to wait until he was at least eighteen and finished with school. He agreed ecstatically, and to his mother's woe, was now training daily, pushing himself to whatever limits he could find, as well as attempting to learn as much about his chemistry as he could, despite how drab he found it.

By his eighteenth birthday, Tia hoped he had forgotten, only for that hope to be crushed by her son asking on the day to visit the United Justice League. However, school was not yet over... Though it wasn't long after that, that he finished his studies.

A fire in his heart, he went to make contact. But despite the blood running hot in his veins, deep down, he was still nervous, still in fear. Regardless, he headed out, keen to be noticed by the United Justice League. Though to be honest, he had no clue where to start.
He remembered that Rex was a marine long before he was metamorpho, and so an idea sprung to his mind, an idea to enlist in the military.

He was definitely a different recruit. His strange condition meant certain conditions were required for his room, no bunk-mate could realistically be expected to live with a young man with uncontrolled metahuman abilities after all. The opportunity to recruit a soldier with special abilities was always too good to pass up though.

Shane quickly learnt in his year of training to hide his nervous emotions, to never show fear, not to your enemies, and certainly not to your comrades. He found it hard to hide it behind a straight face, however, adapting to instead distract those he talked to with wit and sarcasm. Sometimes punished for talking out of turn, though he still learnt to hold a military mentality. He also learnt to push his physical limits. Training his strength, stamina, and endurance over the many months.

It only took a year for him to be noticed by the federal government, whom saw a greater potential use for the boy. All he was told was that he would be learning to use his abilities, and would work with other 'gifted' recruits, he knew better than to pry too far. A dream come true in his eyes, well, mostly. The idea was quite daunting in his mind, but he knew he had to strive forward. To him this was definitely the way to work toward a position where he could make a positive difference, and maybe have some fun on the way.

Personality: Acts outgoing and headstrong, often quick to comment and joke, and sometimes arrogant. Always attempts to appear carefree, and somewhat friendly, although quirky insults are never out of the question. This bundled with a great deal of sarcasm is what he uses to hide his true emotions. Truly he is constantly nervous, trembling at the idea of the next exercise, praying in his mind that he won't end up hurting someone on accident. Fearing his own future, fearing failure, and fearing disappointing those whom's opinions matter to him.
Will always do what he can to help innocent bystanders, as well as assist those in need. Even if it means breaking the rules, if the end result is good, then he'll definitely consider it.
Believes if there are no alternatives, that killing a villain is appropriate, though he would never say it out-loud.

Appearance: Standing at six feet, Shane has a medium-muscular build, wide frame, and a broad chest.
His arms and hands completely green, his torso a dull shade of grey, his legs and feet a deep purple, his face a sky-blue that is cold to the touch.
There is no trace of hair on his body, due to his condition. He has a somewhat stern face, sturdy chin, and white iris's.
His eyes are of average size and separation, his hairless brow naturally face downward, giving his resting face a serious expression. One or two stress lines are visually present above.
Has an average sized nose, which sits slightly high on his brow. His mouth of usual size, with lips the same colour as his face, and bright milk-white teeth underneath. Smallish ears with low hanging lobes, a keen eye may notice them dripping at times.

Hero/Villain Costume: Wears a simple loose black singlet, along with stretchy black shorts.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Abilities:
Self-transmutation: Shane can shift the molecules in his body to any element found naturally in a human, and take advantage of it's benefits. But can only remain in solid states, and does not have the experience to form complex compounds. Able to shape parts of his body, or the whole things, but does not have the focus to maintain more than one element at a time.

Body Shaping: Can stretch his body to some degree, but is still a novice as far as this technique is concerned.

Natural Body Armor: His natural state is still altered as far as his skin is concerned, and cannot change to his normal skin tone as a result, due to the complexity it would require.
This natural state provides damage resistance from blunt and energy attacks.

Cold Resistance: His constant transmutations of elements with extremely low freezing points means he is naturally resistant to the cold and frost. Though he can still be frozen solid with enough effort.

Skills:

MMA: Has some training in mixed martial arts, as well as further military training in it. Probably would be similar to the level of a basic black-belt. In comparison to a League level fighter however, he is a complete novice.

Has some tactical knowledge learnt through a year in the military.

Has some good knowledge of chemistry and physics related to his abilities, and the human body.

Weaknesses:
Transmutation Time: Shift's ability to alter the molecules in his body require some mental work on his part, as such the change is not instant, but rather takes 2-3 seconds or more depending on the complexity. In this short window a strategic assailant can take advantage of his previous state before he can alter to a new one as to react to the attack.
For example, using a heat intensive blow to quickly melt a form with a low melting point.

Inexperienced: Shane has little to no experience in real combat, causing him to think far too much in a fight, rather than react naturally.

Uncontrolled: Still not able to master his abilities in even the most basic levels, Shift can constantly make mistakes and slip-ups when attempting to control his powers. This can be detrimental to himself, and his team.

Prone to fear of his powers and second guesses himself often. For instance if someone was held close at gunpoint, he would often not have the confidence in himself to take out the assailant without accidentally striking the victim along with them.

(Minor) High Metabolism: His transmutation abilities cost a great deal of energy to be performed. As such, Shane needs to consume a great deal of food to keep up. Not as much as a speedster, but still much more than a normal human.
