Year 2016. A hot summer day. Different news channels begin reporting on strange occurrences of people getting sick and attacking other people. Within a week, most of the world is sinking in chaos as terror swallows rationality. Hordes of undead begin roaming the streets, hunting for flesh. People flee, cities burn. Death is the only certainty.

Character A (@FaithWynters) lives in a relatively peaceful suburb that has been not, yet, tainted by the undead. However, on the fourth day after the initial outbreak, a group of men show up at her doorstep, demanding that she come with them. One of the men is Character B (@SilentMadness). For A, this is a more than unpleasant twist of events, but she is quickly explained to that she is, in fact, one of the few people in the world who hold the cure for this disease and that she is a key element to solving the crisis. She has been watched over for her entire life, secretly, ever since the scientists discovered the mutation in her genes.

However, the transport group she is taken in is suddenly ambushed by the undead hordes and eventually, she and character B are the only survivors left, in a world swallowed by death and destruction. What will they do?

The accident, as the driver of one of the cars declares, happened as he tried to avoid an oddly moving person who was "fumbling and stumbling" into the street. Oddly enough, the report comes at the same time with other people relating strange sightings within their neighbourhoods. The authorities are working on verifying the reports' veridicity.

That was how it all started. Within the next few days, the sightings and records became more frequent, and before the second week, it was already known as a worldwide crysis. Cities were being taken over by creatures that apparently came back from the dead. The first to do so, were, by reports, in morgues, and soon after, they began infecting the population, causing deaths by the thousands. With each person that would die, a new creature was born. The military found itself unable to keep anything under control, and so, chaos followed. Apocalypse.

"Listen, Emma." Garret said with a serious tone. He, and another three men, all dressed in military attire. "We're taking you to DC. You're one of the very few person on the entire planet who has the key to this problem. We haven't been told much, we've just been sent to fetch you, but the clear thing is, your blood is special. Or... something. I'm not good with science."

The Humvee the group was in was now making its way on a highway. Desolated highway, except only for the abandoned cars splattered with blood. The army has been through here already, as it seemed. "Can you believe it's only been four days since this whole madness began? Well, more than four, considering they've been ignoring the signals for two fucking weeks." One of the soldiers said, clearly pissed off, before lighting himself a cigarette. It would seem that Emma was going to be stuck with these guys for a while. The road from Utah to DC was, in fact, quite long. The heat was almost insufferable, and that caused more tension.

The Humvee came to a full, screeching tire halt, shaking the people inside somewhat violently. "Hey, what the fuck is going on?" Garret asked the driver, who in return, only pointed at the road ahead. There they were, heading right in their direction. Zombies by the hundreds, hollow figures with eaten faces and eerie movements. Walking death. "We need to turn back." The driver said, obviously terrified by the prospect of being caught by those things. However, the soldier who lit up his cigarette only spat away the remnants out the door, before grabbing his M4. "Fuck no, we're not turning back. This is the road we need to take, and we'll take it. We only need to clear it. Let's move out.

Garret nodded for himself before picking up his own M4. He tossed a short glance to Emma and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Stay here. We need you safe."

Three of the Humvee's doors opened, and the four soldiers stepped out of the vehicles, being immediately sighted by the horde of undead that was heading in their direction. It was going to be tough, they all knew it, but their duty was to keep the subject safe. The first rounds of fire resounded in the air, and the zombies began dropping, each one in the front line being replace by another coming from behind. Time seemed to grow out as the quartet continued firing, corpses falling one over the other in piles. However, the undead number seemed never to dwindle, and, worst of all, more zombies began invading but from behind the group, thus blocking any route of escape. "Shit!" Garret yelled out as he turned around and began shooting at the swarm from behind. "These things have followed us from the city. We're trapped!" "And the ammo is running low!" Another one of the soldiers completed.

The next minutes went away in a rush. And it was way worse than one could imagine. As Garret was struggling in vain to keep the hordes behind away, the ammo ran lower, until the last moments which passed in a white blur of shock. His eyes caught glimpses of his comrades being caught, and dismembered by the hungry living corpses, all while he struggled to shut the doors to keep Emma safe. He had to get her out of there. His duty was above all. With much struggle, he managed to find his way into the Humvee, his uniform now splattered in blood and gore. The ultimate solution was to just push through. Hands scratched the metal of the vehicle, all while he twisted the key almost desperately. The tires screeched and the car set itself in motion, pushing away and running over several zombies, then accelerating on the road. They were safe. For now.
