Secrets of the Envoy

War, it was always a tenacious thing, repeating it's life throughout the ages no matter the plane. In the days of steel and iron, it ran havoc across the lands, a plague brought about by mankind themselves. There were creatures, unknown to the world hidden within the forests, within the seas and the mountains. But was it them we found, was it them we fought despite many disappearing within these areas? No, mankind only had an eye for one another, greed is what the kings held, desiring to expand the lands they own but do not know.


Arcana, was one such kingdom. A twenty year long war came to a crushing end, as neither side held the power to even attempt clawing at one another. Their military strength had crumpled, allowing the eyes of other thirsty lords to look at the lands. The king, in fear, began reaching out, hoping to recover his power. Recruiting capable teenagers of the ages fourteen and up into his army, numbers did seem to grow. But, this was not enough, he needed more if he wished to hold the throne.


Envoys were created from the soldier's ranks, dispatched in random directions, only with the order to seek new lands and spread word of their kingdom. The goal was a desperate attempt to gain numbers for their cause. And for years, yet to come, these envoys would play a particularly important role within the nation. Used there-after for diplomatic affairs, missions directly from royalty, escorts, and even search parties. This is the tale, of one such group that stood out from most others, not because of the feats they accomplished, nor an overpowering strength that existed, but rather, a single secret.


The group consisted of three younger lads, the eldest within his younger twenties, already entrusted with the rank of captain. The two others were nothing more than teens, pushed away from the front lines to go about a mission that seemed far more hopeless. But the secret within them, was a stowaway amongst their numbers. A young girl, disguised as a boy in order to join the military. Whether it was because of selfish desires, or selfless wishes, one she would know. Within these days the females were used for cleaning, cooking, and breeding. If they refused to undergo their proper duties, it was not unlikely for them to even be executed, making the feat of her will all that more impressive.
