Obviously, the facility took note and reached out to him, he had a family, a wife and daughter before he accepted the job, the one thing he was made to agree on is fake his death. Which he did so spectaculary. He achieved this and many more in later years, making the first "Vampire" and then improving on where he made his mistakes, making a pure killing machine which feeds on nothing but blood and bones.
