The city of Dunsmuir, California is normally a quiet and peaceful city. Bordering a very large city park, and located within the serenity of the mountains, they have always managed to stay off the radar of any problems of notable interest. On top of their fairly quiet nature the town is honestly so small that it has no need for traffic lights. They like to brag about it. Quite recently, the town has begun to experience an interesting phenomenon. The citizens all seem to be suffering from the same illness, if it even is an illness. It's more of a contagious wave of insomnia. No one can sleep. When they do fall asleep, they are jolted into a state of awakening by terrifying nightmares.
Normally, this wouldn't be seen as odd or even something that warrants attention from the DWMA. However, it is happening to everyone at once. Adding in to that concern, Hakoda Furral - a new addition to the teaching staff at the DWMA - passed near the town as he was coming to Death City and he noted a strange feeling coming from the city. It was as though the air was heavy with magic and although no one knows its source, that feeling definitely is enough to draw the DWMA's attention. After explaining his feeling to Lord Death, it has been decided that a group of skilled students will be sent in to investigate further. Mayor Vularia has been informed that they are coming and she is desperate for any answers they can provide.

Students who choose to accept this mission have been assigned to meet with Professor Hakoda Fuller briefly at the bus station before they are sent on their way to Dunsmuir California.
