Personality:
Riley is a very creative and imaginative soul. She likes exploring her surroundings, reading, writing, drawing – anything she can do to express herself or get a temporary escape from reality. She doesn't care much for socialization, not only because she finds it awkward and uncomfortable, but because personal experience has taught her that the majority of people she meets won't like her and may even try to hurt her. Even when she finds a person that genuinely wants to spend time with her, she distances herself from them out of fear that she won't be a suitable (or safe, given her case of lycanthropy) companion for them. However, despite her seemingly spacey nature and tendency to keep to herself, Riley is not shy in the slightest. Sure, she’s generally a pretty quiet person, but when she has something she wants to say, she says it, especially when it comes to bullies or other ignorant people. She can be quite intimidating to these types of people, whether it's by giving them a silent glare or by using her sharp wit to put them in their place, often embarrassing them in front of their peers.
Bio:
Riley was born into a wealthy, conservative Irish Catholic family in the U.S. Her parents held her to high standards, but didn’t spend much time with her, instead filling her schedule with extra-curricular activities and hobbies to keep her busy. Her older siblings didn’t really hang out with her, but she looked up to Kieran and Rosalind. When Kieran went missing in action, she was very upset about it. He was definitely the sibling she was closest to. Rosie went off to Oxford. Pat stayed home to work with their dad, but he wasn’t the best company. Luckily, as Jack grew up, the two of them grew very close, constantly going on “adventures” with one another.

When Riley was 9, she went on vacation to Ireland with her family. They visited her grandfather, an eccentric old man who wrote fantasy children’s novels. It was that summer that Riley’s magic became apparent. She had shown signs before, but this was the first time that it became obvious that something unnatural was going on. Her family had been sitting at dinner, when her dad began to criticize her for being so antisocial with other kids her age. He took things a little too far, and her anger caused the glasses on the table to shatter. Her parents were not very understanding of the matter and tried to kick her out of the house, but her grandfather reminded them that this was his house and said that if anybody should leave, it was them. So, Riley’s parents left with her brothers in tow; although, Jack had to be dragged away because he didn’t want to leave Riley behind.

Riley lived with her grandfather for almost a year until he suffered a fatal stroke. After that, she was taken in by her sister, Rosie. Her sister’s fiancee, Jessie, was a witch from the U.S. who had attended Ilvermorny and was more than happy to share her knowledge with Riley. Jessie helped Riley go shopping for school supplies after she got invited to Hogwarts and introduced her to many aspects of wizarding culture. Unfortunately, Riley had gotten used to losing the people she cared about, so she distanced herself from Rosie and Jessie, even running away a few times. During one of these times, Riley ran into a werewolf. She escaped, but not without injury. Jessie sealed up the wound and tried to buy some ingredients to make wolfsbane potion, only to find that they were far too expensive. Instead, she built a bunker for Riley to stay in during full moons and adopted a dog to keep her company during transformations. Luckily, Hogwarts agreed to provide Riley with wolfsbane potion during the school year. Since then, Riley has become more reclusive and quiet, both at home and school. Some might even say she comes off as brooding, but she doesn’t much care about what others say about her.

Other:

  • Riley has mild ADHD and Asperger’s
  • She has trouble admitting when she likes someone and has a bad habit of teasing them or acting strange around them
  • Riley is great at Herbology and Potions because Jessie did well in them when she was younger and tutors Riley over the summer
  • According to Jessie, if Riley had stayed in the U.S., she would’ve been a Thunderbird at Ilvermorny, and she calls her “our little adventurer”
  • Riley keeps a collection of letters she has written to Jack, all of them stamped “Return to Sender”
  • Riley is unaware that she has a younger sister, since Elizabeth was born after Riley started living with Rosie
  • Riley probably would've tried becoming a vegetarian as she got older, but that's probably not going to happen now that she's a werewolf; however, she does limit the types of meat she eats
  • Money is a bit of an issue for Riley and her sisters, since Jessie's parents stopped providing for her after finding out she was dating a No-Maj, and Riley and Rosie's parents, although unaware that Rosie is engaged to a transgender witch, were quick to cut off financial support once Rosie started taking care of Riley
  • Rosie and Jessie like to send Howlers when Riley accomplishes something, like making the quidditch team or passing an exam, but Riley learned after the first one she got, to try and open them as soon as she was alone, and she has asked her sisters to stop on multiple occasions
  • Riley was disappointed with being sorted into Ravenclaw at first, because she didn't want to be seen as just one of the smart kids, but since then, she has realized that Ravenclaws can be quite creative and eccentric, making her proud to be in her house
  • Riley puts a lot of importance on keeping up with her homework and hobbies, and she doesn’t mind how much sleep she loses in the process, which sometimes becomes evident through the noticeable bags under her eyes
  • Riley has slight anger management issues, but she finds that playing sports helps release excess aggression, which would otherwise be directed at herself
  • Riley has only been a werewolf since the summer before her third year
