Now, Who Are You Really?

Personality: Sylvia has always been a social person and loves interacting with her guildmates. She’s always a bundle of energy that is waiting to be unleashed on anyone who will listen or spend time with her. Sylvia hates being left alone because she spent enough time being lonely when she was a child. Sylvia strongly believes in freedom and hopes to become strong enough to free everyone around her. Additionally, although she is highly social, there are moments where it’s apparent that she wasn’t raised in a social environment. While she loves talking to people, she lacks many formalities in conversation that most people learn in their youth.

Character Strengths:
  • Highly social
  • Loyal to a fault
  • Very firm beliefs
  • No shyness at all

Character Flaws:
  • Interrupts people a lot - she doesn’t know it's rude
  • Naive
  • Monophobia (Fear of being alone)
  • Can be argumentative
  • Could be considered obnoxious

Likes: People, ice-cream, ice-cream truck music, the magic book she received in her youth, magic - it still inspires her that such a thing is real, seeing children playing

Dislikes: People who even think she could ever betray them, loneliness, being alone, silence, darkness - not too terrified of it, but she doesn’t enjoy it, thunderstorms - she has to talk louder to be heard, megaphones

Biography:
Daemon and Suraya Koomen had been married for quite a while and they were the kind of people who had almost everything they needed to be happy. One thing remained, though. Suraya desperately wanted to have children - children who were her own in every way. It had been her dream to be a mother ever since she herself was a child, after all. However, things weren’t working out. Suraya had multiple miscarriages and stillbirths and the two of them were about to give up hope, to quit completely and to settle with discontentment. Just as they decided on that, Suraya found out that she was pregnant again and the only thing they could do was hope and pray that maybe this last time would be different.

And it was.

Sylvia Koomen was born to two loving parents who felt like she was their one and only blessing in the entire universe. Obviously they loved her. She had been their dream child, after all. Things can only go so far before they become extreme, though. In their love for her, they were also afraid of losing her. Sylvia was raised in a manner that left her extremely protected to the point of not actually being able to be a child at all. She wasn’t able to make many friends because she never had the freedom to actually spend time with anyone - her parents were too protective to allow it.

That alone wasn’t enough to kill childhood curiosity, though. Every day, shortly after she got home from school, Sylvia would hear the ice-cream truck and the song always was followed by the sounds of laughter. She wanted a piece of that so she started sneaking out to meet other kids by the ice-cream truck. Sylvia was never gone for long, she always got ice-cream, and slowly, she started getting to know some people and it was there that she met a wizard. The thought of magic was so wonderful that Sylvia got excited about it. She asked the wizard so many questions and all of the other kids wondered when she managed to get so talkative. It was just the excitement of something she’d never believed possible, really.

In that excitement, she told her parents about it and didn’t realize until after she’d said it that she was admitting to sneaking out on them. They panicked. Their beloved daughter was sneaking out of the home and they feared that might lead to them losing her. New measures were added to keep her home. She couldn’t sneak out anymore and Sylvia’s life grew very sad and lonely.

The wizard who had spoken to her wondered where she had gone, too. He gave one of the other kids at the ice-cream stand a book, asking them to get it to her and Sylvia managed to acquire it at school. It was a magic book. She clung to the book and never shared it with her parents. She read it cover to cover over and over again, hoping she would discover that she had some magic potential in her, hoping that it might help her get away.

Then one day, it happened. Sylvia felt a surge of energy in an emotional moment as the ice-cream truck was going by. She discovered magic power within herself and her whole body became fluid. It was enough for her to escape her home and she never went back. Instead, she went looking for the wizard who had gotten the book to her… her search brought her all the way to the Sabertooth guild hall where she learned that he’d gone on a quest - a century quest. Even though she knew he might not come back, Sylvia joined the guild so that she could welcome him if and when he ever returned. And since then, she’s been learning her magic, slowly discovering more.

What Side Are You On?

Guild: Sabertooth

Mage Rank: B-Rank

Guild Tattoo Location: Left upper arm

Guild Tenure: 5 years

Opinion of Guild: “I love it because there’s people!”

Why Do I Want You On My Side?

Magic Ability: Liquid Metal Body Magic

Description: Sylvia’s magic is such that her entire body functions as a fluid form of metal that she can harden or liquify at will. As such, she can turn any part of her body into a blade and alter her shape significantly as well.

Advantages:
  • Instant swords
  • Can harden her entire body to lessen impact
  • Can harden fists/feet for punches and kicks
  • Can “melt” to dodge attacks

Disadvantages:
  • The iron dragon slayer can eat her… quite literally
  • Extremes of temperature are bad for her.
    • If the temperature around her is too warm (like… center of a fire warm) she’ll melt and be unable to sustain a functioning form.
    • If the temperature around her is too cold - like… ice cold - she becomes brittle and fragile.
    • This makes her weak to both fire and ice magics.
  • It takes a lot of concentration to sustain any form since her body is completely fluid. She occasionally even “melts” as she’s going about her day because she forgets to focus on sustaining her form.

Level of Expertise: Improving…
