Even before what was known as Dooms Day, Alex didn't exactly lead a normal childhood; he had been extremely sensitive to the sun and bacteria, and therefore forced to stay under strict monitoring in a hospital for most of his life. He grew up surrounded by the piercing scent of antiseptics and disinfectants. The only family he had was his mother; she would visit him every afternoon, after he shift at the local diner, and spend the day reading stories to him and daydreaming of life beyond Earth. The only physical moment of her he has of her left is a 4 by 4 worn out photo taken on his 7th birthday in the Hospital.

Bio
Scarlett, prior to her abduction or whatever you want to call it, had been living on the streets. At age 6, she was picked up by a local gang and forced to sell gum and mints on the subway; she ran away a year later, but was forced to fend for herself in the slums. This is where she developed her need to steal constantly; if she didn't steal, she couldn't eat. Even after she was taken underground and provided the basic necessities and other luxuries she wanted, she never lost her desire to steal.

Personality: Austin is far more sentimental than he seems and is often in his own head. Although he is very methodical in his ways and seems as if he rarely acts without reason, this is not the case. Austin is prone to irrational behaviour when his emotions spiral out of control which is why he tries to keep a tight lock on them. He is very particular and possessive with a short fuse, hating it when people touch his things or mess with his routine. Austin is very set in his ways and resistant to changing the way he does things and deviate from what his father taught him. As a creature of habit, Austin is not much for adventures or spontaniety and minds his own business, rarely getting involved in the matters of others. He is not good with people relationships due to life growing up and generally lacks confidence in fostering good relationships but tries to maintain at least civil or cordial relationships with the others. While he does not go out of his way to interact with others, he has no problem talking to them even if the conversations are awkward or do not go as he planned. Having had little room for fun and games as a child, he often fails to comprehend why people would deliberately engage in silly antics and has a poor sense of humour, tending to take most things seriously and being incapable of reading between the lines. He is terrible with emotional stuff, having shut his own down and tries to cope with tragedies, problems and pain by drowning himself in his routine and moving ahead. This has led others to call him unsympathetic and cold-hearted. He does try to be helpful and kind in his own way on occasion, although his lack of confidence in his interactions with others and ability to be of help has often led him to keep his distance instead for fear of potentially making things worse. Once something piques his curiosity, Austin will not let it go until his curiosity has been completely satisfied. Austin is actually a gentle giant and thoughtful person even if he is not good at showing his softer side and not very willing to. However, when a job needs to be done, Austin will do whatever is necessary to complete it. While Austin has no confidence issues with regard to his own abilities, trusting the abilities of others is something that he has difficulty with, often intervening unnecessarily in matters he is also involved in. Bio: Born to a pair of immigrants as an only child, Austin was considered different in the small, slightly xenophobic town composed mostly of locals that his parents had moved to after they met and got married, having fallen in love with the natural beauty of the place. His father had been a rising military star in his home country before he headed to the states to become an astronaut while his mother was part of a group of young men and women who left her home country seeking a better life. Originally born, Rezart Hunter, his parents had given him the english name of Austin with the hopes that it would help him better fit in with the other kids in the town when he grew older. Unfortunately all plans for him to attempt to lead a normal life never came to fruition. Everyday from the age of 6 onwards, he would rise at 7 to begin a day long of brutal training with his father and has known of no other lifestyle since. Well respected as an astronaut before his retirement, Austin's father caught wind of the situation with the solar flares and the experiment planned in response to it from people he knew. Having lost his wife when Austin was only 5, he decided to train Austin hard so that he would qualify for the experiment and receive protection. His father was never an openly affectionate man unlike his lively mother, as such, after her death, Austin received few embraces or shows of love. He had always been more quiet and uncomfortable around his father, a large, gruff and awkward man and the dynamic of their relationship changed completely once the training started to mirror that of a master and student. The training meant he had very few friends and limited interaction with other children of his age or any adult for that matter. It led to him becoming bitter towards his father but he listened and went through the gruelling training because his mother had told him on her deathbed to be a good boy and listen to his father. Because of the way his father had raised him since his mother's death, Austin had not really felt anything after he passed the mandatory testing and was told he would be separated from his father until the day of the separation came and he saw his father's tears, becoming furious at the older man for never showing any sign of love for him until the day they were separated and for giving him up so easily. Since then he has clung to his routine and father's teachings as a way of keeping his connection to his father and following through on his last promise to his mother.

Emilio wants to believe in optimism, that a positive attitude can change the future. He wants to believe, but really isn't sure it's true. He sees the world for what it is but he chooses to not be swallowed by the darkness and instead he looks for the light. Emilio has a light hearted spirit and tries to bring humor into what is often bleak circumstance. He has a constant need for action, movement, being still is not a virtue of his; neither is patience.

  Born in a small town in Vermont to a history professor (her father) and an author (her mother), Naomi led a rather idyllic childhood. Her parents, Bill and Eloise, loved their daughter dearly, yet they feared for her future with the impending destruction of the Earth. When news of a clandestine experiment arose, whereby young children would be imbued with the essences of planets as a last-ditch effort to save humanity, they made the agonizing decision to give up Naomi, in the hope that she would at least have a chance to survive. Light Manipulation || Nova can manipulate the photons in her surroundings. She can render items, herself and others invisible by removing the photons bouncing off them.
Fire Manipulation || Nova can manipulate fire and generally all forms of combustion. She also has a high tolerance to explosions.
Power limitations
All || Nova cannot create what is not there. She cannot manipulate anything if it is not already present in the environment around her.
Thermal Manipulation || Nova can decrease the heat of an object, but once it has been cooled, it cannot be easily heated up again. The heat also has to go somewhere, often going into Nova's body, leading her to have rather high body temperatures at times.
Light Manipulation || Nova cannot create any hard light objects, or objects out of still light. It also takes great concentration to render any space bigger than a house cat invisible, and Nova often suffers from nosebleeds when overly concentrating like this.

Nova lived a pretty standard life before being taken away. She was the only daughter of two high school teachers, and at the age of five, attended Kindergarten. Really, her childhood was pretty standard, up until she was taken underground for testing.

Nova is a very go get 'em girl. She likes to be hands on with whatever she's doing, regardless of what others would want. She is very much an "act first, think later" kind of person, and it often gets her into worlds of trouble with the staff. She's highly curious about the world around her, regardless of her surroundings, and staying in the same place or visiting the same areas will quickly become very boring for her. She craves attention and acknowledgement, if only to stave off her underlying dread that people actually don't like her. Bio
Luis was born to two unidentified Chinese parents. Almost immediately after he was born, he was given away to an American run orphanage in China. Before he could be adopted, however, he was taken by the researchers. Because the researchers wanted an easier way to talk to Luis, they taught him English and gave him a western name - his original name is lost on the sands of time, along with his last name.

His boldness can often take the form of rashness, however, leaving him to face rather unfavorable repercussions when he oversteps a boundary or breaks a rule. Sven takes most things in his stride, never one to hold grudges or complain. He is a renowned prankster in the Solaris compound (although never with malicious intent) and can always ease the tension with a joke or two.   Sven was born as the oldest of eight children on a blustery winter morning in Copenhagen. His father, a brusque man with a penchant for alcohol, worked odd jobs as a handyman, while his mother, a soft-spoken woman who loved children, worked as a schoolteacher. As a child, Sven witnessed firsthand the afflictions of poverty on his family. He and his siblings often went hungry, and he began to work at the age of seven (mowing neighbors' lawns or clearing sidewalks of snow) to supplement the family income.
  A few days shy of his ninth birthday, Sven was recruited to participate in the Solaris project. Although he misses his mother and siblings dearly (he would never admit it, though), he cannot help but feel a slight twinge of relief.

Personality: A ball of boundless energy, hyperactive Jennie is often in high spirits and looking for fun. She enjoys interacting with others and a good competition although she is an admittedly sore loser. Graceful is not a word one would use to describe Jennie. She is clumsy and more likely to break her neck than get through a dance without mixing up the steps or stepping on somebody's toes. A happy go lucky young woman who acts and looks younger than her age with childlike mannerisms and tastes, she is very mischievous and more often than not up to something. Bio: Jennie was an orphan since long before she underwent the test a year after she collapsed on the streets from hunger. When she awoke days after she was found, she did not remember her parents or much of her past, only that she had briefly lived in an orphanage where she recalled having many friends and a relatively normal life. Unfortunately this couldn't be further from the truth. Her parents died when she was 4 after which she was sent to an orphanage sponsored by a wealthy couple and run by their son's friend. The son frequented the orphanage where he took an interest in young Jennie and befriended her, gifting her many toys and treats that earned her the attention and friendship of other kids at the orphanage. For a while, life was good at the orphanage until things took a dark and twisted turn when the wealthy couple passed away in a car accident. On her 5th birthday, Jennie was taken to the amusement park by the couple's son for a day of fun after which the man had asked for her mother's ring which she had kept hidden in the orphanahe as thanks that Jennie refused to give. His personality changed and he hit her when she refused to threatening further violence if she did not comply. When Jennie still refused he held true to his threat and took the young girl to his home where he whipped and hit her continuously to try and learn the location of the ring which he hoped to sell to cover his debts. When the stubborn girl still refused to disclose it, he had her locked up in a dark cramped space that she barely fit for the night while blasting music outside it so she would not be able to sleep. The torture continued until he finally procured the ring on his own after turning the orphanage upside down, making sure to show it to Jennie through a crack in the box he locked her up in before selling it. Unfortunately for Jennie it did not end there. His anger over her defiance and refusal to give in led him to keep her locked in the house as a servant making her clean the house and abusing her when she disobeyed him or failed to complete a task with his whip and nightly lockups, eventually swapping the music for the audio of horror movies. The abuse continued for a long time until Jennie managed to escape when the orphanage manager came over unexpectedly one day while her abuser was out and walked pass the room with Jennie's box. The young girl having caught sight of him through the crack in the box screamed for help and was let out by the manager who planned to take her to the hospital and make a police report until her abuser returned. In the ensuing chaos, Jennie managed to escape but did not contact any authorities, terrified by his threat that he would hunt her down. It continued until she collapsed from hunger, hitting her head hard on the concrete after which she awoke in hospital with the memories of her trauma and her abuser repressed thus preventing police from finding out more about the cause of her wounds. Following this, she stayed at an orphanage where she experienced frequent flashbacks and displayed an inability to trust any adults although she had no issue trusting other kids. Jennie also showed other signs of trauma being frightened by loud noises and averse to physical contact with adults with her inexplicable fears causing her great distress. It was only after a kindly old lady took her in that Jennie started to improve. Being removed from the orphanage environment decreased the flashbacks of images she did not understand that terrified her and although she initially faced the same problems with the lady as she had with other adults, the persistence and gentleness of her adoptive mother eventually helped her overcome them and her personality brightened up as she recovered and slowly started to resemble the girl that she had been before her kidnapping and abuse. Her condition improved drastically by the time the testing came around and after her selection, Jennie rebelled when she learnt she would be separated from her adoptive mother, only relenting when the woman gave her a bag(containing her soft toy and a letter) and told her to go.
