Rowen Persephone Ranalds

Sasil

May the Dread Wolf take you.

Appearance:

Standing around 5’10 Rowen could be considered tall; and she is. She comes from a family of short people that is except her father who she took after. This is both a blessing and a curse. Wearing high heels causes her to be too tall for most men but she never has to worry about grabbing things when on the top shelf. That is the blessing.

With a heart shaped face, large expressive green eyes and freckles on top of freckles is your general looking next door neighbor with fluffy, uncontrollable red hair. Hair that she normally just rolls out of bed without doing much with it. If feeling lazy she will pin her bangs to the side with colourful barrettes or try and cover it with a hat. This usually involves a beanie she stuffs the hair into.

Rowen enjoys the simple make up that just expresses her care free spirit. This normally includes eyeliner, lip colour and sometimes a dash of bush upon her cheeks. She will never leave the house without those essentials but will never be one of the girls that will spend hours getting her make up spot on. She has a system and the system works. So she does not bother with changing it.

With her tall size comes also average body size, curvy in most of the right places but sadly lacking in the breast area. As a young teenager she used to stuff them but as she grew up decided that it just wasn’t worth the hassle and went ol’naturel. Back then, she wanted to be accepted—now she just does what she wants. This includes how she dresses and how she presents herself to the world around her.

She loves to accessories the most and will almost always have a number of rings and at least one necklace on.

That one necklace is a small silver jellyfish that hangs off a loose silver chain.

Personality:

As a child and teenager, Rowen was the quiet one in the background trying her best to keep her grades up not wanting to be seen or heard from. She wanted to be liked but being liked meant being noticed which also meant having to deal with people making fun of her or bullying for the smallest reasons. She had few friends in her childhood but once came high school, specifically her later years she got a pretty good band of friends. All of them a little different. They brought out the happy, fun creative girl just waiting to be unfolded. They helped her blossom into an over excited girl who perhaps was a bit to passionate about her future.

But they liked her and that was the best thing for her.

Nowadays, Rowen is confident (more or less of the time the shy little girl still lingers deep down and new people still scare the shit out of her) and can be a bit weird. If you go with her to any kind of zoo she will make voices for all the creatures and try and figure out there past lives before they were brought to civilization. She’s a bit of a goofball.

Rowen is easily stressed and must have a list of everything she has to do otherwise she will probably fall into a pit of mumbling and over extravagating. This mostly goes for large decisions and not so good at spur of the moment things. Without coffee she will get testy and more then likely will hiss at you. Not a morning person. This also goes for talking about something she is passionate about, she will go on until you give up. She doesn’t take kindly to people dissing something she likes, takes it as a hit on her personally.

Each of her tattoos that can be found on her body have a story behind them, if she is feeling talkative she will probably tell you. If not then you better not ask. She gets annoyed when people judge her by the appearance she has—something she has worked hard on all her life. All of the tattoos she has were drawn by her. Before deciding on becoming an animator she thought of becoming a tattooist and worked part time at one for a bit. But she got her head back on.

Story

Rowen wasn’t always the creative soul she is today. Before, she was a studious straight A student that longed to have the approval the people around her. To be liked and included in the people around her. But that never really happened.

As a child Rowen had a simple life. A mom and dad that loved hers. That simple life was always being moved though. From one town to the next wherever her father had a job that could put food on the table. You see, he worked as a researcher; a marine biologist to be more specific. While that does sound lovely and grand, finding a job that lasted more than a few years was tricky and grants could be cut and a job could be gone. Through all the moving her parents’ marriage was tested. Arguments could always be heard from the small apartments that they rented. And they were always about the same thing—money. The root of all evil and soon it took its toll on Rowen’s little life.

At the age of 10, Rowen’s mother left her father leaving her with him. They never fully got the divorce no papers were signed and she just left. Saying she would come back after she cooled down and her dad got his head on straight.

She never came back.

But not for the reason you would think. She meant too, fully the next day she tried to come home but tragedy happened. She died. On the street; instantly. Rowen still hears her father cry about the loose of his wife.

After the death of her mother Rowen’s father moved her one last time to San Diago where he got the dream job at the zoo taking care of the aquatic life you could find. He never really was happy again but he tried his best to make a life for his little girl, who he always said was the spitting image of her mother with every passing day.

Now, thanks to moving all the time Rowen had to make up a lot for school. She worked hard for every grade hoping that if the kids saw how smart she was they would welcome her into the clan that is school. But nothing seemed to work, she tried to stay away from the bad kids knowing well that it would kill her father if he found out she had gone off the deep end. But being the new kid always means teasing and the teasing always made Rowen feel isolated and even more so after her mother died.

Rowen can remember the time when she really started to draw—it became her escape from the world around her. The moment her pencil touched the paper she would be transported to a world of fantasy. Dragons breathing fire, a hero in the distance saving the damsel in distress or a lonely elf looking for her lost lover in the forest. Unlike her studying, drawing and painting came naturally to her. She became a pro at drawing characters and in her later high school days she was making her own little animations, story boards and stories. Her dream was to become an animator. Create the backgrounds, the characters in the Disney movies or create her own little company with her own ideas.

Her father was just as excited about the idea as she was and he hoped to see her first movie. Sadly, at a young age he passed away due to a heart attack. Most people think it was because of stress and that could be it but Rowen more thinks that it was because he was tired of feeling guilty for driving her mother away and with his last breath he could finally apologise for everything.

But that could be the small piece of hopeless romantic that Rowen harbors deep down.

Once in College things got rocky. Rowen did her best to stay on track with her work but found herself falling down a path she knew her father wouldn’t agree of. She partied a lot and started to smoke. For a year she almost forgot about school but after a close call she finally got her head on straight. She stopped smoking but had fallen behind on her work and had to work extra hard to get back on track.

As a part time job she works at a bar as a waitress.

Others:

*; Jellyfish; Rowen loves jellyfish and if she finds out there is an aquarium around her she has to go in and look at it. She will literally drag whoever is closest to her there.

*; Same goes for cats; and will pet any kind of stray she finds. Normally she does quick sketches of them too.

*; Hates tea with a passion. Won’t drink it unless she is absolutely made to drink it. Prefers dark coffee.

*; Hates when people play with her fluffy hair. Just because it is fluffy and red doesn’t mean you have the right to touch it.

*; Being an art major she can find beauty in almost anything. She has a habit of taking pictures of people without knowing it and drawing characters in her sketch books later or while she is ‘people’ watching. A past time most people don’t understand. It is essential for her career path though.

*; Loves the colour yellow and turquoise. Sunflowers are her favorite flower.

*; Has a number of tattoo’s on her body along with piercings. Piercing's on most of her earlobes, one on her left eyebrow and a spetum and a lip ring.

“Miss why are you talking to the jellyfish?” A small voice disturbed Rowen as she stared intently at the glowing, graceful jellyfish that seemed to have not a care in the world about anything. Rowen was brought back to reality the moment the small voice talked to her and looked to the little girl who seemed to have walked away from her guardian.

Smirking she brushed a hair from her face and pointed to the jellyfish. “They are great listeners; and better yet they are the fairies of the ocean.” She stated earning a pout from the girl who stood on her tippy toes to take a look at the fish trying to see if Rowen was pulling her brown ponytails.

“I don’t believe you.” She finally said eyeing Rowen.

Rowen bent down to her level chuckling a bit. “Well, that’s your problem. You have to believe. You ever watch Peter Pant? You can only fly when you have ‘faith, trust and pixie dust’. The same idea goes with jellyfish fairies.” She explained making hand gestures to the tank once more.

“Still…that’s just a fairy tale. Besides, why would a fairy want to be a blob like a jellyfish?” she explained obviously starting to want to know more, and was getting interested. Rowen blue a hair out of her face digging in her bag before bringing out her sketch book. Flipping threw she found the sketch she had been working on of a little person in a gown that resembled a jelly fish. It was coloured with blues, purples and hints of yellow.

“How about that? See she even has wings.” Rowen spoke pointing to the wings. The girls eyes suddenly glued to the picture and she smiled a little looking from the drawing to the real jellyfish in the tank aimlessly floating around.

“You…Is that true?” she asked suddenly looking away when her name was called.

“Gracie!” a worried voice came up from the crowd of people. Hesitantly she moved from Rowen then came back. “I-Is it true?” she asked.

“What do you think?” Rowen winked earning a smile from the girl before she ran towards her mother. Rowen put her book away hearing the small voice once more talking excitedly about the jellyfish fairy.

“I won’t be the one to stop believing in the unknown.” She spoke to the jellyfish once more.
