Name:

River Smith-Shield

Normal Appearance:

River Smith - Normal.jpg

Age:

 19

Identifying Features:

Her flowing dark blue hair

Her piercing sky blue eyes

Her skin almost seems to have a faint glow to it

Occupation:

An apprentice at her mother's smithing business

Home Life:

River comes from a family of extremely successful smiths and a bloodline filled with military recognition, hence her double-barrelled name, as her parents thought it would be best for both of their surnames to be used and she could choose which occupation she wanted to enter.

Her mother and her mother before her, all learned to smith a variety of different items but jewellery specifically with fine and delicate detail, the highest quality in all of Astrophel. The workshop is around the main marketplace of Astrophel and so is relatively far from their home, meaning River's mother who is the Master Smith of Ethereal, the name of the family smithing business, is away from home for the majority of the day. Nevertheless, when she is at home the time they spend together is cherished, as both of them having similar personalities making them mesh incredibly well. As a result of her mother and father's success, River lives in a particularly wealthy subdivision of Astrophel, living a more than comfortable life in a large manor. River lives with her father, mother, and Finesse whom is her younger brother.

Her father is Captain of the city guard and acts in a very strict and professional manner whenever he can, however this sometimes slips around River due to her bubbly nature. As Captain of the city guard, her father can work from home more often than not, his job involving more strategic thinking and planning than actual fighting; regular guards do most of the patrols. Therefore, River has a close relationship with her father, her free personality rubbing off on him.

Finesse, who is 17 years old, and River have a typical sibling relationship. They get along fairly well, most of the time, but are constantly getting on each other's nerves. River mostly gets away with it due to always feigning innocence and naivety, much to the annoyance of her younger brother. The siblings may fight and argue often but will forever be ready to jump to the other's side if they are in need of aid.

Personality:

River is a free spirit. She loves adventure, spontaneity, exploring, just about anything that leads to something new. She strives to be awestruck and is always in search of new knowledge, she wants to experience and enjoy everything that she possibly can while she can. River is bubbly and carefree, she doesn't mind taking risks and delving into the unknown for the thrill of discovery, adapting to whatever is thrust in front of her. River cannot say no to mischief and usually gets in trouble with her father for it, her free nature can make her come across as naive but in actuality she has a very keen perception. She is exceptional at controlling the perceptions of those around her though as a consequence of this, which leads to her father falling for her excuses or reasoning when she desires to squirm out of something.

River is a very emotional person, acting on intuition rather than reasoning regularly - which can be both a virtue and a vice. River's mood is visible on her face, she fully feels emotion and cannot hide it at all well from others. River has difficulty holding her tongue and so will speak her mind, whether it be good or bad, it will always be said in a blunt fashion. River's carefree nature has lead her to be incredibly confident but this confidence can lead River into many an arduous situation, she simply cannot resist a challenge which ends up in her trying anything no matter the odds; she may be impulsive but she is determined.

Religious Views:

River's father used to come from a religious family but adopted a mind of liberty when he met River's mother. River's mother believes that we carve our own destiny and find our own path, it is fully a conscious decision. The world, existence, wasn't created by an omniscient being but just happened. Nobody knows why and nobody ever will know why and that's why they should just live life as it comes, relying on their own eyes and mind to guide them. This mindset has been passed down to River and Finesse, whom both firmly believe in their parents viewpoints on the topic.

Romantic Orientation:

Homosexual

What is your wish?

To live a life without regretting the things she did or didn't do

What is your fear?

To be restrained and forced to live in a specific way, have her freedom withdrawn

What's most scarce in your life right now?

Discipline; River hardly ever listens when to authority

Midheaven relations?

Camellia Dianthus: Childhood Friends! - River and Camellia were close friends as children but simply drifted apart as they grew older.

(( @Zaxs ))

Wings Choriste: Friends! - They meet when River attempted to sneak backstage after one of Wings' shows and was caught by none other than Wings herself. The two struck up a conversation, River trying to squirm her way out of the situation. Security heard the commotion and so came to check it out. Much to River's surprise and delight, Wings coerced security into letting River off. They formed a friendship, River inviting herself around Wings' house randomly and her just accepting it and Wings commissioning a present for River. Jewellery. Made at her mother's business. By her mother. Which River completely knew about. Well...at least Wings tried.

Sunshine Constable: Best Buddies! - Sunshine and River's families are both in the city guard and the two girls grew up knowing each other.  Both possessed of people-loving, fun-seeking, cheerful nature, the two enjoy each other's company greatly and have never (yet) quarreled despite the three year age gap between them.  River's father disapproved of the friendship early on, as he was Captain of the Guard and Sunshine's parents worked for him which could be misconstrued at work.  The girls' enduring friendship has survived familial disapproval, however, and they remain excellent friends even after Sunshine's nursing studies and River's apprenticeship. Storm Ververs: Acquaintances! - River and Storm are passing acquaintances, they met when River's parents hired him to create a family portrait of them and their children. They heard he was one of the best and so cashed out on commissioning his service. Through this, River and Storm interacted although it wasn't that often and only about the portrait at hand; thus their relationship developed no further once Storm had finished.

Emotional Magical Effects:

Your magic can cause extreme effects based on your emotions. If you start as a Midheaven, strike out one of the Despair shifts (indicating that you went through it already) and start with 0 Despair and 0 Hope, or start with 2 Despair and 0 Hope. If you start as a normal person, start off with everything uncrossed and at 0.

Hope: 0/3

Despair: 0/3

Hope Shift

 • A lucky break gets you closer to your goal.
 • You are able to heal someone else, removing all of their Despair points, healing a serious injury, or removing alterations by a Despair Shift or Great Despair.
 • You have a moment of sincere hope. Remove any Despair points you have.

Despair Shift

 • You have an outburst that alienates you from others.

(River destroyed a few buildings saving a child from a group of Nadir, it was in a poor area of Astrophel and the residents there hated River for it, not paying any mind to the fact that she just saved a life. In her normal form, she tried to donate money to them but they wouldn't accept it and continue to revere River. She tried to help but it only made people more wary of her).

 • You have an outburst that injures you or someone else.
 • You permanently acquire another fear or twisted wish. Write it on your CS.

Great Hope

 • You cause a small miracle to happen.
 • Undo any fears, twisted wishes, or alterations to your body caused by a Despair Shift or Great Despair.
 • Somehow, life in Astrophel gets a little happier and less panicked.

Great Despair

 • Your body permanently takes on an unnatural aspect related to your constellation, your associated emotion, or something that led up to your Great Despair.
 • Your magic goes out of control, destroying non-magical things in the immediate area.
 • A Nadir wrenches itself from your body, with characteristics and a human target based on what led up to your Great Despair.

My only issue is:

Generally, people don't associate Midheavens with their normal forms, as part of the Midheaven form makes it impossible for normal humans to recognize Midheavens' faces. Unless she detransformed right in front of them, the residents wouldn't know River was the Midheaven that destroyed their buildings.

Everything else looks great.

I meant it as, to try and make up for her mishap while in Midheaven form, she attempted to donate money anonymously in normal form as a kind of charity act alongside other residents whom had heard of the incident but the people who it effected didn't accept any of it out of pride/didn't want pity and so continue to revere Midheaven River. Sort of seeing all Midheaven's as more of a danger and a detriment than protectors, hence she caused people to only be more wary of Midheaven form of her.

Would that still not be okay, do people not recognise Midheavens' at all if they see the same one again?

Oh yeah, that's fine!

It's fairly rare for them to see the same one twice, but they are capable of recognizing the same Midheaven if they see them more than once. It's less the appearance and more the emotion that makes them identifiable.
