Reaping Souls

"Rin, you ready to head out? We're about a quarter of the way done with our soul collecting. 74 more souls and a witch soul and you'll be a death weapon." Asher looked at his partner as he fixes his black leather jacket. He stretched his arms up above his head, popping his joints. "Or do you not want to go out tonight? Because that's fine with me." He said, shrugging his shoulders lightly. He didn't mind if they went out or not, he actually had a lot of homework to do but procrastination and what better way to procrastinate then to kill some kishins and take their souls. His curious olive green eyes stared at his partner as he waited for her response.

Rin looked over to Asher as he asked if she wantes to go out tonight, him explaining she was a quarter of the way through to becoming a death weapon. That was a pretty decent achievement and honestly she was excited. Becoming a death weapon would be pretty cool, though Lord Death might take her if that happened. She doubted it, but, still. He proposed either staying hom or going out, and she wasn't entirely sure what she wanted to do. "Umm..I'm fine with either." She replied nervously, deciding to leave it up to him to decide. "We can stay home if you want to..? Or go..?" She asked. She didn't really care either way, they had been going out fighting a lot lately, perhaps resting would be a welcome change. Though she'd also fight if that's what he wanted, collecting souls was pretty fun too.

"Mhmm then let's just head out for a bit, do a quick patrol of the are then call it good for the night. Hope we run into a kishin or two, heard that there haven't been much lately, but who knows." He decided after thinking about it for a bit. There, two birds with one stone; he was going to have more time to finish his homework and he got to go out and hunt for kishins. "Have you heard the rumors that have been going around? The one about the kishins gathering and stuff?" There have been a lot of rumors going around Death City and the academy itself. The rumor was a speculation about the lack of kishins, apparently some think that they were meeting up to combine to form some kind of super kishin or something. In all honesty, Asher thought that it was pretty silly and stupid, but who knows, anything is possible.

Sighing, Asher took a quick drink of water from his water bottle before walking over to the door of the apartment that him and Rin shared, opening it. He turned his head and looked back at her, "Let's go princess?" He chuckled at her, he liked calling her princess because he knew it bothered her most of the time.

Rin nodded at his answer. Why not both, she guessed. "Okay, we can do that then." She replied. It sounded like a decent enough plan. Walk around a bit, maybe kill a kishin or two, then come back here and hang out for a bit. It was a bit weird sharing an apartment with him at times, but she guessed it only made sense. After all, he was her meister and she was his weapon. It only made things easier. When he asked if she had heard the rumours about the kishin gathering she shook her head, "No..? I haven't heard anything about that at all. Why? What are they?" She asked, genuinely curious. When he stood up and walked over to the door she too stood up and stretched.

She blushed heavily when he called her 'Princess'. "I'm coming..." She mumbled nervously, quickly walking past him out of the door before he could say anything further. It pretty much always bothered her when he said that, mostly because she wasn't entirely sure of the meaning behind it. She figured it was nothing more than to annoy her, but she wasn't sure, and the more she thought about it the worse it made it. So she generally tried to ignore it.

"Oh, the rumors are just something silly. People are saying that the reason for the lack of kishins is because they are hiding and gathering together somehow somewhere in order to form some kind of super powerful kishin or something. It's a bit silly if you ask me, like is that even possible?" It didn't seem possible to him, at least not without a witch being mixed in there somewhere, which could be a possibility. "But honestly, don't you think it's a bit strange at how quiet it's been around Death City? Like it's just a little to quiet, ya know?" He voiced his opinion about the rumors. He quickly closed the door and locked it after Rin stepped out.

Then, he started to walk out of the place with Rin, "What are your thoughts on it? Pretty sure you got something going on in the mind of yours." He was just genuinely curious. His curiosity often tomes got him in trouble at times because he would go to great lengths to quell his curiosity. He stuck his hands into the pockets of his jacket as he slowly walked down the street with Rin by his side. It was a quiet night, just like the previous nights. He was starting to doubt that they'd get a kishin. Heck, they'd be really lucky if they spot one.

Rin listened carefully to Asher explain the rumors about the kishin. It didn't really make any sense at all, though it would be kind of creepy it was real. Though she had never heard of kishin working together en masse she guessed it was possible? She hoped not though, a super kishin could cause a lot of problems. As he continued to mention it being a bit too quiet she slowly nodded, his words only making her worry more if the rumors were true. Asher was a capable fighter, but she wasn't so sure he could handle something of the mentioned calibre if the rumors were true. She doubted they were though, it was silly to think kishin would ever do something like that. She was sure it was something much simpler like a bunch of people hunting them down more. That had to be it.

When asked what her opinion was on the matter she shrugged. "Well..its kind of silly really. Though there is a lack of Kishin.." She replied slowly. "I doubt its anything like that though, people are probably just killing them more. Kishin aren't exactly known for mass teamwork.." She explained before shrugging once more. "What about you..? What do you think?" She asked. The topic of the rumor on hand she herself doubtes they'd see any kishin tonight, much less kill one and her eat its soul. She hoped they would since they botheres to come out and all, but it was heavily doubtful.

"Honestly, I think it's a load of bull, but anything is possible these days. Kishins could be evolving and getting smarter for all we know." Asher sighed, looking up at the grinning moon. He continued to walk in a leisurely manner while keeping his ears and eyes opened. The streets were eerily silent, which somewhat threw him off because they just seemed too quiet. "Something feels off... Doesn't something feel off to you?" He asked his partner, looking around the area. The houses were dark, the street lights flickered slightly, not a sound to be heard. "Let's take to the roof, I can see things easier from up there." He said, looking at his partner and holding his hand out for her to transform.

It wasn't long until a scream ripped through the place, breaking the eerie silence that had been bestowed upon the meister and his weapon. "Come on, could be a kishin." He said, looking at Rin with a smirk. He was getting his hopes up, probably shouldn't, but he couldn't help himself. The thought of killing one kishin tonight get him pumped. If it was a kishin then he wanted to get to it before any other meister could. There was a competition of sorts for kishins, and there was no way he was going to fall behind in that race.

Rin sighed lightly and nodded slowly. She guessed there was a small possibility his theory of evolution was correct. She highly doubted it and hoped it wasn't. But really it made sense as far as needing an explanation went. What else was there other than a meister and weapon hunting them down. Or a group. Either one, really. However she doubted a group had formed as it was usually a contest to get kishin rather than co-operating. He soon asked if something felt off, and honestly she had felt the same way but didn't say anything. "Yeah..I did to-" She began to reply, only to be cut off and startled by a sudden scream.

Of course Asher wanted to investigate, him quickly instructing her to transform. Sighinh heavily she quickly did so, hopping high enough for her hilts to land in his palm once complete. "Hopefully it is. It'd suck to come out here for nothing." She replied. "Not that I mind walking with you or anything..but..yeah." She added, she would shrug but..weapon form. Nevertheless she honestly did hope it was a Kishin, she was eager to eat a soul and even more eager to become a Death Weapon in due time.

Asher gripped the hilt of the swords tightly before running off towards the source of the scream. "Well, just our lucky night." He smirked, charging at the kishin as it was about to kill the woman. He quickly shoved the woman away, blocking the kishmn's attack. "Guess you get a little snack tonight, Rin." He smirked, knocking the kishin back and jumping at it, aiming for its chest and head. Asher was getting rather pumped about killing the kishin.

(No idea what that is, but its ok ^-^. I'll assume you want me to control the Kishin.)

Rin grinned inwardly when Asher found the source of the scream, which was infact a Kishin about to kill a woman. Awesome! Well, not awesome that someone was going to be murdered. That was bad. She meant the Kishin. She was beginning to doubt they'd be able to find one, but as luck would have it they did. "Awesome! Y-you can do it Asher!" She cheered, the normally quiet girl excited by the thrill of battle. The Kishin barely dodged the blow to the head, gaining a decently deep cut on the chest which only caused it to howl in pain. The second it recovered it lunged at Asher intent on tearing his throat out and ending the fight rather quickly, causing Rin to emit a small gasp of shock.

(writer's block)

Asher quickly used his free hand to use the sword to block the kishin's claws before they could reach his throat. "Tch." Asher grunted as he held back the kishin's attack. He quickly yanked out the sword that was int he kishin's chest and used that to cut the kishin's hand off. Then, he kicked the creature away and back flipped away to put some distance between him and the kishin. "You okay Rin?" He asked his partner, not taking his eyes off of the kishin. He twirled the swords in his hands a bit as he stared the kishin down. "Let's end this quickly, I don't want it getting away and causing more trouble later one."

(It's fine :D )

Rin sighed in relief as Asher blocked the Kishins' attack. She doubted it would be able to kill him, but even an injury could be serious while fighting a kishin. "Woo! Go Asher!" She cheered, only seemingly enraging the Kishin more with her words alongside Asher's attacks. The beast roared in pain when its hand was cut off, cut off only by Asher kicking it back. The thing skidded a few feet, unable to catch itself due to missing a hand, before stopping. Another screech later and it was standing on its feet. "Mhm." Rin replied, not entirely sure what he wanted her to say or do. Letting out another high pitched screech the wounded and pissed of kishin ran right for Asher, seemingly sacrificing any form of defense in an aim to run right for him and rip his heart out.

"Well, someone's a gutsy." Asher chuckled, holding the swords up in a defensive position as the kishin charged at him. "Well, the dumb ones are the easiest." Asher smirked before changing his stance into an offensive one and charging at the kishin. He was careful to avoid the kishin's hand, which was easy because it was one hand that he had to avoid. It was still hard because the kishin was faster than him. His eyes looked for an opening that he could utilize. He really didn't want to drag this thing out longer than necessary because it would jus the waste of time and energy. He figured that he could just quickly stab the thing or cut it in half and call it good for the night.

Asher aimed for the kishin's chest once more, hoping to land a fatal hit this time rather than just injure it.

"Yup!" Rin chirped in response when he called the Kishin dumb. She was eager to kill it and eat its soul, it was obvious now unless Asher majorly messed up he was winning this fight without a doubt. Not that she had doubted he could to begin with but in this line of work death was always a possibility. Of course her meister dodged the things' zerg rush with relative ease all things considered. Immediately after he dodged his stab went right through the Kishin's chest, ultimately killing the thing. It screeched one final time before turning into a soul floating slightly above the ground. "Awesome we did it!" She cheered as she eyed the soul. She'd wait until Asher put her down to transform back to claim her prize. She assumed they'd be heading home now, although she wouldn't be immediately opposed to looking around for another Kishin if he so wished.

Asher smiled in triumph when the kishin turned into a floating red soul. He gently placed his partner down so that she could change back into her human form in order to consume the soul. "Well, do you want to keep going or call it good for the night and head back?" He asked Rin as he waited for her to transform and eat the soul. He didn't know if they were going to be lucky and run into another kishin and he didn't want to go running around town and waste his time an energy. Asher wouldn't mind much if he knew for sure that he was going to run into at least another kishin, but he didn't. Asher quickly looked around the area, debating on if he wanted to go home or keep going. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair.

Pretty much as soon as he sat her down Rin transformed back into her human form and greedily ate the soul emitting a small burp afterwards, to which she blushed slightly and mumbled an 'excuse me'. The fight had been very fun as always even though she never participated directly. Though she never thought about it much, she knew her role as a weapon was just as important as his role as a meister, and she was more than happy to cheer her friend on while he fought. Soul eaten she turned to him to address his question with a shrug. She was going to say something but was cut off by a yawn. "I'm a little tired...but...I wouldn't mind continuing." She replied. "But..the chances of us actually finding anything are next to zero so...lets just head home?" She told him. "There's no point in wasting hours looking for a kishin likely not there." She added. She really wanted to hunt more kishin, though it was a fruitless and pointless effort for them to try right now. The fact they had even found one was a miracle in and of itself.

He chuckled lightly when she let out a little burp and said 'excuse me', he found that rather cute at how mannerly she was. Asher sighed and agreed with Rin. They were very lucky to run into this one, the chances of them finding another that night was little to none. "Yeah, let's go home, I highly doubt that we're going to find another." He decided, stretching his arms above his head and popping it. He chuckled lightly when she yawned, "Besides, you said that you are tired, so let's head home." He told her with a smile, holding his hand out for her. "We got school tomorrow anyways, so going home would be the wisest choice at the moment." He added.

The more Asher thought about it, the decision of going home was the best one. He had a lot of homework and stuff to do, and he was a little tired from the little fight that he had with the kishin. He stares off into the distance for a bit before looking back at Rin.

Rin nodded. "O-Okay." She replied simply. She blinked when he held his hand out to her, not quite sure if he wanted her to hold it or transform. Though they were going home so she found it a bit unlikely it was the latter. Hesitantly she walked up to him and gently grabbed his outstretched hand, a light pink blush instantly forming on her face. She frowned slightly when he mentioned school. It wasn't that she disliked going, infact she liked it, she just didn't like waking up so early. You'd figure she was used to it but she really wasn't.

"Um..I can help you with your homework when we get home if you want me to." She offered, shrugging lightly. "T-That way you can get done faster and stuff.." She added. Really the main reason she wanted him to get done was so they could maybe hang a bit before they had to go to sleep. Though, as long as she was spending time with him she'd be happy. He was a great friend, and she'd be lying if she said she had no feelings for him beyond friendship. She was just too embarrassed to say anything about it.

Asher smiled down at her and shook his head lightly, "It's fine, you're tired so just go to bed when we get home. I mean, unless you want to help me then that's fine, but I don't want you pushing yourself to help my sorry ass that decided to procrastinate," he said with a chuckle as he started to walk home while holding Rin's hand. He always liked holding her hand, it was always so soft and just nice to hold. Although he won't admit it fully, but he felt something for the girl. The feelings were growing, slowly.

The two walked down the empty night street, the sounds of their faint footsteps echoed throughout the bare streets. He actually started to take the long way home, wanting to spend a little more time walking with Rin, and because he didn't want to do his homework. Yep, he was procrastinating again. He knew better, but he couldn't help himself. "Hey Rin, do you ever think of what you're going to do after we graduate school? Are you going stick with my annoying ass or find some decent guy? What kind of job would you want to get?" He was rather curious. They would have to get another job to support themselves. Killing kishins and the money they earn from missions would only go so far.

Rin smiled slightly and giggled lightly at his joke. "I-It's fine. I don't mind helping you." She replied pretty much instantly. Really it was just an excuse to spend time with him. She was pretty tired and likely would of went to sleep, however he probably did actually need help before he got in trouble. The last thing she wanted was for him to, in-fact, get in trouble and they be able to hunt kishin even though they weren't exactly finding many lately. She sighed as she looked up at the night sky before staring out ahead of them as they walked, stealing a small glance at Asher in the process. She counted herself lucky she got him as her partner. As reckless and irresponsible as he was he was extremely kind to her no matter what, plus he was kind of cute. She blushed a bit more and shook her head at that though, nope. None of that.

She had noticed he opted to take the long way but she didn't say anything about it, in all honesty she preferred it too. She blinked at his question, a bit taken aback by the suddenness of it. She hadn't ever really thought about it, in her opinion she always figured they'd be together as partners. She was his weapon and she was his meister, she quite liked that fact and never thought it would change. She knew they'd both have to get real jobs, but she didn't count on that affecting them much. "U-Um...I don't know. I guess I'd want to stay with you?" She replied, reddening heavily at her response. "I don't know about a job though...I never really thought about it." She added before shrugging. "What about you? W-Would you mind me staying with you..?" She asked while looking up at him. "A-And the job thing too.."

Asher chuckled lightly before going silent for a moment to think. "Well, of course I wouldn't mind you staying with me. I actually want you to stick around for as long as you can." He told her with a kind smile, scratching the back of his head. He could feel his cheeks heat up slightly at what he told her, he just hoped that she didn't see his blush. He thought about the job part. He hadn't put much thought into it. "Well, I guess I'll probably be a cook or a pastry chef. You know how much I love cooking and baking and such." He told her with a grin. Honestly, that's all he could see himself doing. He couldn't handle being a teacher, it was just to stressful. He definitely would not make a good business man or anything like that.

"Do you ever want to settle and have a family some day?" He asked, looking up at the sky. He hoped that her answer would be yes and that she didn't have her eye on any guy or anything yet. Although, he didn't know if he should let her know his feelings for her at all. He was to afraid of ruining what they have between them.

Rin's blush only darkened and she could feel her heat beat a little faster at his response. She smiled lightly to herself, maybe he really did like her? Or maybe he just meant he wanted to stay friends. Honestly she was happy either way. He was a great friend and if he wanted her to live with him for as long as possible she wouldn't mind. "Really? I'm glad." She replied, still smiling. She was honestly a bit worried he only wanted her living with him temporarily until school was over and junk, and if he had wanted that she wouldn't of forced herself on him or anything. After all, she was smart and capable, she would of did well to live on her own; or at-least she thought so.

At his response to the job question she giggled lightly, that definitely sounded like Asher. She really could see him opening some kind of five-star bakery or restaurant. Though, that did give her an idea. Why couldn't they open a place together? I mean, they were living together, so it only made sense right? "I-If you did open a shop or something I wouldn't mind helping." She commented. And then he asked her if she ever wanted to start a family. She paused mid-step momentarily before resuming walking. She really wasn't sure how to respond to that at all or the context behind it. It was something of a big question and depending on how she answered could go pretty badly, or very good depending on how he took it or what she said.

She sighed lightly before glancing up at him. "Umm..I guess so. I think it would be pretty nice to have a family I mean." She replied shyly. "I-I don't really have anyone I could do that with though, I-I mean it would be nice but...yeah." She added nervously. "W-What about you? Do you think about that stuff sometimes?" She asked, looking up at him somewhat hopeful. If he felt the same way there'd at-least be a chance. But she really did want a family in the long run, so she wasn't sure how to respond if he said no. She did like him..but..still.

"Mhmm, my place is always open to you as long as you're willing." He told her with a smile, squeezing her hand lightly. He just wanted her to stay with him forever, as selfish as that was of him, that's what he wanted, he just wanted her to stay with him forever. Well, if she wanted to leave then he'd let her go of course. "Well, at least we have no problem living with each other huh? It'd be hard if we had problems, but I'm glad we don't." He told her with a chuckle as he looked at the road ahead of him. They had their habits, but they've learned to live around it and fix it and such, so it wasn't like any of them had a very bad habit that interfered with the other.

Asher chuckled at the thought of her working in his pastry shop if or when he opened one. "You could help me decorate the cakes and such like you do at home, and you can help me manage the place. You know how bad I am with all that business stuff, while you are like awesome at it." He told her with a warm smile. "I would probably drag you into the shop to help me either way, you always look so cute and at ease when you're decorating cakes and such." He told her, smiling at the various memories of how she looked whenever she'd help him decorate his cakes, it really just showed off her innocent side and it was just cute. At least, in his eyes it was.

"Even if you have no one now, I'm pretty sure you'll find someone in the future. What guy would turn away a great girl like you? They would have to be really stupid and mindless to not look at you and try to get you." He told her with a warm smile. 'I would be stupid if I let you slip through my fingers.' He thought while he admired her. He wasn't going to let her run into some other guy's arms, not until he had tried to get her for himself. If she rejected him then oh well, it would hurt him, but he can't force her to feel something for him if she doesn't.

"But yeah, sometimes I think about it. I want a family one day. A nice loving wife, a little baby girl, maybe three, and a little baby boy." He said with a smile, chuckling at the end. If only he had the nerves to tell her his feelings for her. He was glad to hear that she wanted a family one day.

Rin only continued smiling at his response and when he gently squeezed her hand. For the time being she really couldn't imagine life without him. He was a great friend and maybe eventually she'd confess to him too...though she was afraid he'd reject her if she did. But the thing with that was she'd never know if she didn't ask. Perhaps she might later tonight? Or tommorrow? She wasn't entirely sure. All this talk of them being together and their futures really had it on her mind though.

Her blushed returned as he started complimenting her and telling her she looked cute decorating the cakes and things he made. Really she didn't think she looked any differently or anything when she did. As far as she knew she didn't exacty act differently; though she did enjoy decorating cakes and it was kind of peaceful. "I-I wouldn't mind helping you decorate the cakes and stuff..I-It's kind of fun." She replied. It really did seem like they had a plan somewhat worked out for when they graduated though, which was good.

She looked up at him with wide eyes and a noticeable dark pink blush on her face as he spoke about her finding someone. If she didn't know any better she would think what he meant was him hinting at him liking her. Was it true though? Did Asher actually like her? It would be great if he did, but it would also be bad if she mixed up a generalization with actual feelings. But...this would be the perfect time for her to confess.

She smiled softly and looked ahead as he mentioned his ideal family. It was quite a big family but Rin had to admit it didn't sound so bad. Now the question was, should she say something, or should she just leave it be? Was what he said an indirect confession or just him being nice? She sighed heavily and closed her eyes before nodding to herself, she figured while they were on the topic now was the best time. Whatever he answered is whatever he answered, she saw no reason they couldn't still be friends if he said no. "Umm..Asher? Can I ask you a question?" She asked nervously while looking at the ground. "Do..Do you like me?" She asked, slowly looking up at him. "B-By that I mean...w-would you be interested in maybe going on a date sometime?" She explained.

She'd finally said it. Now all she could do was hope he said yes. She really, really wished he would. But if he didn't feel the same way she'd understand even though his actions and words said differently.
