Name:
Emilia Emory

Gender: Female

Age:
13

Appearance:
be6d5443783cea6fe1aa415d39da0053.jpg

Outfit: Emilia almost exclusively wears white and blue colored clothing. Her favorite outfit and the one she wears most often is a white dress accented by blue ribbon. She even made a belt out of extra ribbon to strap things to. Right now she just has her music player stuck to it, but she's already prepared spots to stick her pokeballs to for when she's a real Pokemon master. Emilia loves listening to her music, so she's usually got her headphones on her head playing something or another. Her sandals and her music player were specially designed to match the brooch she always wears, a gift from her mother.

Home Region: Kalos

Hometown: Lumiose City

Likes: Music, beautiful things, strong pokemon.

Dislikes: Ugly things, weakness, losing, getting dirty.

Hobbies: Singing, thinking about once she's strong and how she'll beat the other champions then, shopping.

Skills/Talents/Strengths: Emilia has a beautiful singing voice, and despite what many assume she is not only able to cook but is actually pretty good by her own estimation. She's smart, especially when it comes to math, and she's good at planning out what to do. Oh, and while it barely crosses her mind most of the time, she casually spends obnoxious amounts of money.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: She would never do anything that might make herself appear undignified, she's far too proud for that. She thinks too much for her own good, sometimes getting lost in her own head when she should be focusing on what's right in front of her. Her attitude tends to mean she has a hard time making friends. In fact most people are left disliking the girl after meeting her.

General Background: Emilia's mother is a famous singer, her father a successful businessman. Needless to say, she hasn't had to deal with failure very often in her life so far. Her mother left six months ago to tour around the world, one of her longer trips but nothing particularly new. She left on those kinds of trips every so often. Sometimes Emilia got to go see her when she was in far-off places, which was always fun. Whens he was really little her father and her had gone with her mother on the entire tour. It's still one of her more precious memories. Speaking of her father, he's truly a wonderful man and a loving father. No matter how busy he may be with work he always takes time out to spend with his daughter. He buys her whatever she wants and spoils her of course, but he also just spends time with her, takes walks around the city with her, shows her all kinds of Pokemon, reads stories to her.

Those stories of mythical Pokemon just waiting somewhere out there, for someone strong enough and worthy of their power to appear stuck with Emilia through the years. But what really set her mind on becoming a great Pokemon trainer was her learning about her family from a long time ago. The champion from long ago before the time of Blue and Red, Lance. She was related to him, though more closely to his relative Clair. Back then the family specialized in powerful dragon type pokemon. They were known as the strongest of the strong. Almost unbeatable. She got her father to track down old pictures and videos of her ancestors and their battles. She fell in love with Clair especially.

At first she just watched her battles because she thought they kind of looked similar, a little bit, but Emilia fell in love with watching Clair's battles. Her Pokemon were incredible, and she was so confident, and she was always so dignified whether she stomped her challenger or even if she lost. The Blackthorn City gym leader became young Emilia's idol. Her parents had always told her that she could do anything she wanted with her life, and they weren't very surprised when she said she wanted to become a Pokemon trainer. What did surprise them was the ambitious words that followed. "But not just another weakling, I'm going to be the champion, one so strong that even champions from around the world can't beat me." Her father laughed loud and hard. "That's my girl! Nothing less than the world is enough for her!"

Future Goal: To become the strongest champion.

Dislikes: Fire, heat, hot foods, spicy foods, water, baths, fish.

Relationship with trainer: Keo and Emilia are and odd pair. Keo is cheerful and silly and not too bright, while Emilia is cold and distant and always thinking too much. But Keo loves Emilia unconditionally, and though she doesn't always show it Emilia cares deeply for her partner.

What is your character’s favorite pokemon type?
Emilia likes pokemon that are strong and aesthetically pleasing. Fairy types tend to fit this well, though she does find many ice types quite beautiful as well. She might be biased towards types that would fare well against her idol's dragon pokemon.

Favorite Legendary?
Articuno.

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why?
Definitely a Bagon. She's set an impossible goal for herself, but she won't give up no matter what might get in her way. Her stubborn pride is just like a Bagon's.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?
She only decided to attend RBY Institute after learning that Clair and Lance grew up and trained in Kanto. Emilia believes she could become the strongest no matter where she went, but here she could at least research her ancestors a bit.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life?

Keo wakes her up like an alarm clock that doesn't ever know what time it's supposed to go off. So... in a negative manner. Oh you mean in general. Emilia is obsessed with becoming famous, so if it wasn't pokemon she decided to put all her effort into it would just be something else. Probably singing like her mother.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon:
Damn, I was hoping to keep this story for later.

It was only a bit over a year ago now. Emilia was in Alola on vacation with her father. Her mother was performing for a festival on Ula'ula island, in the famous Malie Garden, and they were there to see it. Emilia remembers having a wonderful time travelling around the islands of Alola with her father, and her mother too when she was able to get away. The entire region was so beautiful, and all the people were so friendly. It's a truly wondrous place.

Well anyway, the day of the big concert to wrap up the last day of festivities, Emilia was doing some last-minute shopping with her father before they headed to the show. Her father was busy talking with the store owner about something Emilia didn't care about then and doesn't recall now, so she went outside on her own. Alola was a safe enough place for her to do that much. She remembers noticing that it had gotten foggy all of a sudden, and for the first time on the islands feeling a chill.

She saw him then, his bright blue eyes staring at her from out of an alley. He was so beautiful that she chased after him. He scrambled back down the alley, towards the other street. He stopped before leaving the alley though. The young fox just stood barely inside the alley's shadow, staring out. When it turned its head back towards Emilia and let out a pleading cry her heart just broke.

She knelt down in the alley and just hugged the pokemon as it whined for her to do something. It was a while before anyone really noticed the girl in the alley, they were too occupied dealing with the scene in the street. Some tourist had gotten drunk celebrating and gone for a drive. They hadn't even seen the white Ninetales when they'd hit it. Worst yet, the ice covering the street and the cold mist said it hadn't died right away. It was a tragedy, and that was before anyone found out it had been a mother.

Emilia didn't let go of that little fox for more than a second over the next few days. No one could make her, assuming anyone was willing to try. It was a local that suggested to Emilia's father that she keep and raise the fox, and after thinking about it a bit he gave er the choice. Of course she wouldn't leave it behind, it needed a mother. The locals of Alola have a name for the unique snowy Vulpix that can only be found on the islands: Keokeo. It means white. It's the name Emilia decided to give to the little fox.

She thought she'd have to constantly shower Keo with affection to cheer him up, but he proved to be much stronger than she'd given him credit. The Vulpix's curiosity and playful spirit brought it out of its depression in no time at all. In only a few weeks she found herself needing to scold the little fox for playing too much. There are still times when he seems to remember his mother, but mostly he's just an excited little ball of fluff and teeth with too much energy. But Emilia hasn't regretted her choice to raise the Vulpix even once. Not even when he froze her pillow or turned the bath icy cold or got sick and filled the house with snow. Actually that last one was pretty fun.

Name: Justin Flechilla

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Appearance:
tAG_84690.jpg

Home Region: Kanto

Hometown: Porta Vista

Likes (3+): Cooking; Surfing; Women; Pokemon; Eating

Dislikes (3+): Food prepared improperly; Peaches (FOOD SHOULD NOT BE FUZZY!!!); People no one can please;

Hobbies: See aforementioned Likes

Skills/Talents/Strengths: Cooking and surfing are Justin's greatest strengths/skills. Justin also does show promise when it comes to battling, but at this moment in time his skills in the kitchen and in the water are far superior.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: Justin can be somewhat short tempered at times. He can't stand for things and people to get the better of him. His biggest fear is having a small insect crawl in to his ear and get lodged there(I've seen videos of this shit happening in real life. It creeps me OUT)

General Background: Justin was born and raised in Porta Vista, in the Kanto region. Until receiving his acceptance letter in to RBY Institute Justin was employed at the world famous Mendelay Bay as Head Chef, a title he worked very hard to achieve. Some of the newer hires will have you believe Justin was only able to get the title because his mother owns the hotel, but any of the veteran chefs will tell you they watched him start out as a dish washer and work his way up from the very bottom. Another of his titles include One of the Big 4, referring to the fact that he, along with his mother, grandmother, and older sister, make up the entirety of the senior staff of the hotel.

Justin's first love was and always will be the ocean. He took to swimming like a fish in water at the age of three, and competed in his first surfing contest at the age of 7. He didn't win, but that loss is what drove him to get better and better at the sport. He won his first surfing contest a year later against his peers, and didn't show any signs of slowing down. He did eventually stop surfing in competitions however, opting to follow a new path in life. The life of a chef. It wasn't nearly as easy as he thought it was going to be, but that didn't stop him from giving it his all just as he had with surfing and swimming. One day after a hard days work Justin and his sister got in to an argument about whether institutes of learning would accept his application or not, his sister arguing “Take RBY for example. They'd never accept your application. Not because you're not a good learner, but because you don't have the battle experience students are expected to have entering the school!” Justin's argument was “That's what the Institute is for in the first place, Char! Trainers can come from all walks of life. The Institute exists to teach people like me what we would need to know to be the best!”

It wasn't until several weeks later did Justin get a reply, calling a family meeting to order when it did. Justin would, rather dramatically, open the letter in front of his family and begin to read aloud. “Mr. Justin Flechilla. We regret to inform you...” He trailed off as he read mentally, his sister walking towards her brother. Just would grin as he started again. “We regret to inform your sister was wrong and that you got in to the RBY Institute!” He would laugh a few times, tossing the letter in to the air. “I got in. Of course I got in. I'm awesome.” As if there were ever any doubt. With a sigh his sister would pipe up, asking “So what are you gonna do now? Are you gonna go, or did you just apply to prove your point?” Justin had to think on that for a minute. He had applied just to prove a point. But now that he was in, what possibilities could be waiting for him just around the river bend? Eventually, Justin would answer “I'm going. This could open a whole new world for me. New challenges. New adventures. New rivals. It'll be like my surfing days all over again!” He just hoped he could walk the walk he was so proudly talking.

Future Goal: World Renowned Chef

Important Questions for your character's admittance into RBY Institute. Answer honestly please.

Moltress, Articuno, or Zapdos? Articuno

What is your character’s favorite pokemon type? Water

Favorite Legendary? Giratina

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why? Arcanine. Justin is very passionate at whatever he does and is very loyal to whomever he thinks he can get along with, but if you piss him off

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute? Justin hopes to expand his cooking horizons while at the Institute, while at the same time open a few doors to the battling and competition worlds that he hasn't had much interaction with before. In his opinion, the same food can taste different to the same person and pokemon based solely on their current state of being. For example, lemonade tastes better after working outside in the heat all day as opposed to how it taste when you just go to the kitchen and get a glass. Justin hopes to learn when foods taste better to people and pokemon, and how to make them taste even better than before.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life? Pokemon have had both a positive and a negative impact on Justin's life. From a single incident he has both been scarred for life and made a lifelong friend.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon:
It was just another day. The sun was high and shining brightly. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. A wind blew, but not enough to make the day unejoyable. The beach was dotted with groups of people, all out having a great time. Among them were the Big 4 of Mendelay Bay, enjoying a rare and well deserved day off. The matriarch of the family, Justin's grandmother, was in the middle of an arm wrestling match with a Machop. His mother lounged in a beach chair, soaking up some rays to get her tan back to what it had once been. His sister had joined another group for a round of volleyball. And Justin, as always, was out in the ocean catching waves.

He had been out the majority of their day off on the ocean and was getting tired. One more wave and he was going to call it a day. Everything was going smoothly. He was up on his board, in the most perfect barrel he had ever seen before. For just a moment, he was completely alone in the world. No hotel. No family. Just Justin, his board, and the coolness of the water that surrounded him. For someone like Justin, it was paradise. All of that changed when a wild Gyarados jumped out of the back of the barrel he was occupying, the Atrocious Pokemon easily succeeding in its attempt to knock Justin off his surf board. As soon as he was in the water Justin quickly began to swim for the surface so he could breathe, an attempt made futile as the Gyarados came around and struck him again. This time the Gyarados had struck Justin, slicing a diagonal wound across the surfer's chest. As blood began to vacate his body and mingle with the water around him, the only thought that crossed Justin's mind was this was going to be a really shitty way to die. He wasn't scared. He wasn't angry. He was well aware death was just around the corner at any given time. He just didn't think it was his turn to turn said corner. By this time a rescue crew had been dispatched, but he knew they wouldn't make it in time. The Gyarados was already turned and headed for him again. He would be dinner before the rescue crew hit the water. He had already accepted his fate and closed his eyes, already feeling his consciousness slipping away from the blood loss. Just before he blacked out Justin was sure he heard something crying out in pain, but he was so far gone he couldn't be sure.

It was days later when Justin groggily awoke from his blood loss induced coma, the first thought running though his mind was that Heaven looked an awful lot like a hospital room. Smelled like one too. Feeling something pressing against the bottom of his feet Justin would look down, spotting something he hadn't thought he would see. A Wartortle sitting on the edge of the hospital bed he was occupying, curled up and fast asleep. A nurse came in and, seeing Justin was awake, quickly left the room to inform the doctors and his family. Within minutes the room was filled with the Big 4 crying, all thankful Justin had lived. His family had explained to him that just as the Gyarados was coming back to finish the job, a wild Wartortle had swam in and Ice Beamed the Gyarados in the face. It was enough to scare the Gyarados off, while at the same time buying the rescue crew the time they needed to get to Justin and get him to the hospital. Even then the Wartortle refused to leave Justin's side, wanting to protect him in case the Gyarados somehow found his way back to his prey. When Justin asked why a wild Pokemon would help save a human, one of the nurses suggested it was the fact that Pokemon were like people in the reguard that they couldn't just sit by and watch bad things happen if they could do something about it. When it awoke Justin would thank the water Pokemon for saving his life, and ask if there was any way he could repay his debt. The Wartortle replied by pointing to his open mouth, Justin laughing and regretting the action instantly. “Tell you what” he would tell the water turtle, shifting slightly in the bed. “Stick with me, and you'll never go hungry again” The Wartortle liked the sound of that, agreeing to Justin's offer.

GM Character (1st Year, Zapdos)

Name: Ophelia

Gender: Female

Age: 10

Appearance:
f71b408b75e71ab135cc5096978b1501.jpg

Home Region:
Kanto

Hometown: Pallet Town.

Likes: Olympia, her family, pokemon, flowers, camping with family/friends, stargazing, cute things.

Dislikes: Being left out, broccoli, being ignored, being alone, clowns, bullies.

Hobbies: Gardening, reading, hiking, exploring.

Skills/Talents/Strengths:
Ophelia as a green thumb when it comes to growing things. Neat, organized, and responsible for her age, Ophelia is an excellent caretaker whether it’s for little babies or pokemon. She is thoughtful and sincere, willing to go out of her way to accommodate those in need, especially the elderly. She is honest. She has a good sense of direction.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: Ophelia cries easily. She tends to get a little sensitive when provoked and takes things personally. She’s afraid of not being needed. When she sees something she doesn’t like, or when she’s someone doing what she considers to be immoral, she can come off as a little bossy and nosy. She is naïve and easily gets swayed by the opinions of others. It’s easy to trick her (her brother does it all the time).

General Background: Ophelia’s mother is a teacher at RBY Institute. Her father, as far as she is aware, doesn’t exist. Apparently her parents separated not long after she was born and her mother moved back to Pallet Town where she’d been raised. Whenever her mother wasn’t home, or busy with work, which she seemed to have a lot of, Ophelia and her elder brother were taken care of by their loving grandparents. In many ways, Ophelia lived a sheltered lifestyle, being the younger sister to an overprotective older brother—though he did tease her quite often. Ophelia always had someone there when she needed them, whether it be her grandparents, her friends, or her brother. She doesn’t like being alone. She cries easily. Ophelia knows her weakness well.

That is probably the reason she greatly admires Olympia, her brother’s best friend, whom she looks up to. Only 3 years older than her, yet the dark haired, pigtailed girl was everything Ophelia wasn’t. Strong. Independent. Olympia is everything Ophelia aspires to be. There’s also the fact that Olympia saved Ophelia from falling off a cliff in one of their family camping trips…but that’s a story for another day. The pigtails she wears are an effort to imitate her hero. She used to follow her brother and his best friend on all their little ‘adventures’ everywhere they went. The older kids always try to lose the little girl, but Ophelia was persistent and constantly getting lost when it came to her stalking excursions developed her sense of direction when it came to finding her way home.

Things changed, however, when Olympia and her brother got accepted into RBY institute—a place Ophelia couldn’t follow. At least until she was 10. With her mother working at RBY Institute as a teacher, her brother a student of the school, and her hero a student of that trainer school as well, it was only natural for Ophelia to want to join them. She didn’t like being left out. Hearing stories from her brother and seeing the pokemon he caught when he came home for the holidays drove her desire to get into RBY Institute. It would make her mother proud. More than that, it would show Odalis and Olympia that she had what it took to join them. To become the best pokemon trainer she could be.

Future Goal:Undecided.

About the PokemonFirst/Chosen Pokemon: Poliwag

7b7ec9627680fc23f7c366c7f12fc760.jpg

Nickname: None as of yet. Poliwag has refused all the names Ophelia suggested.

Likes: Eating, Sleeping, Swimming, challenges.

Dislikes: lightning/electricity, crying kids, losing .

Relationship with Trainer:
Poliwag likes teasing Ophelia, but he’s oddly protective of her as well. He’s the more confident/prideful of the two and will actually be the first to jump into a fight when provoked. While Ophelia is Poliwag’s caretaker in terms of physical well-being, he keeps bullies away from who he considers to be his human servant.

Important questions
Moltress, Articuno, or Zapdos?

Zapdos.

What is your character’s favorite type?

Grass. They are beautiful in Ophelia’s eyes and she often encounters them when gardening with her mother.

Favorite Legendary?

Celebi

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why?

Pachirisu. Ophelia is like an adorable little chipmunk when excited, asks a ton of questions, and tends to follow the people she likes around. She’s a little skittish at first, but once she becomes curious about something, she sticks around like glue.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?

Ophelia hopes to learn a lot about pokemon and become a stronger trainer, enough so that Ophelia and her brother won’t mind taking her on their adventures. She’s also curious about the school and wants to know more about pokemon in general. Perhaps, one day, she’ll be able to start an adventure of her own and discover lots of new things.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life?

They are an object of curiosity for Ophelia. As a small girl, she often played with her mother’s pokemon.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon.

Attempt to catch Poliwag – Day 4.

Hidden behind a brush, Ophelia’s gaze was fixed on the lure she’d placed near the small lake behind their rural home—an innocent plate of PokeBlock she’d spent hours making the night before. It wasn’t as if the young girl was inexperienced in making pokemon food. Heck, most wild pokemon wouldn’t mind regular human food. But the one she was after, the one she was determined to catch, was picky. Or rather, it had become picky. Spoiled so to say. At first, it came out every time Ophelia left a plate of food near the lake. However, after many, many failed attempts to catch the round, amphibious creature, Poliwag no longer responded to her lures…forcing Ophelia to up her ante.

She had thought it would be simple—catching a pokemon that is. She saw it all the time. Her brother throwing the red-white ball at wild pokemon. Done. When Ophelia had gotten her first pokeballs from RBY Institute, she’d been eager to try it out—to own a pokemon for the very first time. She never imagined it would be so…difficult. Wild pokemon were easy to notice when she hadn’t been trying to catch them; When she went observed on her hiking trips with her family and secretly fed them snacks. Yet, when she was throwing things at them, they were much more difficult to find, and faster than she’d imagined.

Poliwag was the first one to come to her. It had been 4 day since then. Ophelia was determined to win their little game on her own—to prove to herself that she was worthy enough to enter RBY institute and become a pokemon trainer like her brother and her idol.

The sight of a blue shape rising from the surface of the lake caused her pulse to quicken. There it was. Poliwag. Watching the amphibious pokemon waddle towards the plate of PokeBlock, Ophelia waited for the right moment, when Poliwag was eating, before making her move.

And waited.

And waited.

And now!

Thwack!

The pokeball she’d thrown planted itself straight back into her face. Poliwag continued to eat nonchalantly. As the pokeball rolled on the ground, tears of frustration leaked from Ophelia’s eyes. She couldn’t do it after all. How was she supposed to catch a pokemon before RBY’s Orientation? She wasn’t strong. It wasn’t like she could talk to pokemon and convince them to join her. If she couldn’t catch Poliwag on her own, what hope did she have of catching other pokemon? Perhaps…she wasn’t meant to be a pokemon trainer. The thought cause Ophelia to fall on her bottom and start crying. She couldn’t help it.

Hearing the sound, Poliwag stopped eating and looked up at Ophelia, tilting its head. “Poli?”

“I just want to be a pokemon trainer" *sniff* "Why is it so hard!? What am I supposed to do???”

Large round eyes looked from Ophelia, to the pokeball, and back to Ophelia. Poliwag waddled to the pokeball on the ground, tapped the pokemon storage technology open with a flick of its fin-like tail, and disappeared inside.

Skills/Talents/Strengths
Despite his lackluster abilities, Gray can memorize information fairly well, making him gifted when it comes to studying. Subjects such as math come easy to him for this reason, but he falls short in other areas. When it comes to Pokémon battling and similar fields, he finds it difficult to put what he has learned into practice.

Aside from having a good memory, Gray is a decent cook, often making Poké Puffs and other treats for V.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears
Gray is constantly living in the shadow of his parents and older siblings, which has led to him developing an inferiority complex. Unable to live up to the expectations that people have of him, he views himself as a failure. Even so, he continues to do everything that his parents ask, even if the results he produces are unsatisfactory.

With much of his time spent taking lessons and following orders, Gray hardly gives any thought to his own desires. In the rare moments that he is able to speak his mind and consider what he wants, the boy is left speechless. Aside from knowing that he doesn't have any interest in his family's business, he has no idea what he wants.

Since most of his life has been planned for him, Gray often becomes indecisive when left to his own devices. He is afraid that things will stay this way forever, being a disappointment without any goals of his own.

General Background
The youngest of six children, Gray was born into the famed Luster family, their name and achievements spreading across each region. It was a reputation that began with the hard work displayed by the heads of the household, their offspring doing the same when the torch was eventually passed. While the name itself brought a fair amount of prestige, each child managed to gain notoriety of their own, standing out from the collective group by accomplishing great feats in the field that they had chosen to pursue. The name became synonymous with success, adding to the expectation that everyone who shared their blood was meant to possesses talent and obtain glory. Those expectations, held by the family and the people that knew their name, would also apply to Gray.

The Luster children all seemed to shine in their own unique way, having a certain trait that just made people gravitate towards them. Gray followed in the footsteps of his older siblings, living in the same environment and receiving the same lessons from their parents. In terms of upbringing, they were the same. However, in any other circumstance, the difference was clear. Gray simply didn't have the spark that the rest did.

In a family of superstars, Gray was the odd one. In his own words, and the ones of those around home, he was average. Plain, unremarkable, and dull. It was as if the well of talent had run dry, the youngest child lacking any quality that separated him from the crowd. He couldn't keep up. In comparison to the shine that the others gave off, he was little more than campfire, the light from its dying flames eclipsed by the rays of a shining sun.

In a house filled with eccentric personalities, Gray was fairly normal. He wasn't particularly quiet, but it was hard to maintain a presence when his brother and sisters seemed to always have a spotlight on them. While the relationships he shared with them ranged from varying degrees of bad to decent, they were all aware of the gap that existed between them, which would either earn him pity or contempt. His parents, however, didn't place too much focus on their youngest's ineptitude.

Regardless of his lacking performance, they had expectations of him, and he would need to live up to them. Whether it was from tutors or his parents themselves, Gray followed the Luster curriculum that covered various fields until he chose a specific subject to focus on like the others did. While he did the absorb information well, putting it into practice proved difficult. There was no burning passion within him, nothing he could strive toward.

It wasn't very shocking that Gray would eventually develop an inferiority complex. No matter what he did, the boy simply couldn't measure up. It was disheartening, being made to prepare for a future that he wasn't interested in, or cut out for. Even so, he would continue.

Eventually, the time came when his parents informed him that he would be attending the RBY boarding school in order to further his education. It wasn't up for him to decide, his own feelings on the matter being irrelevant. Well, he wasn't against the idea. Each of his siblings left home for a time, setting off for a different region. He actually felt relieved. It would give him a chance to get away from everything. Gray wanted separation from his family and the expectations that weighed down on him.

Relationship with trainer
Gray and V share a very close bond, always together throughout each day. After saving V's life and raising him since birth, the Pokémon is very affectionate towards its trainer, never leaving his side. V is the only one that Gray is able to talk to and show true happiness around, forgetting about the pressure that rests on him whenever they are together. The two are inseparable, nothing that one wouldn't do for the other.

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why?
Eevee. Simple, yet full of possibilities.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?
In truth, Gray's motivations in attending RBY Institute are completely selfish. He simply sees the boarding school as an opportunity to get away from his family and the expectations that others have of him. Although, even if this weren't the case, he would still be attending, as it was a decision made by his parents.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life?
With a family that deals heavily in fields pertaining to Pokémon, Gray is expected to follow suit by those around him, continuously facing pressure to succeed in some form. However, the boy doesn't have much interest in anything about them, or following in the footsteps of his relatives. Still, he does find genuine enjoyment in being around Pokémon. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that he likes being around them more than other people.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon
While the Luster family was well-known for its accomplishments, they possessed another trait that added to their fame. Each member of the esteemed family was partnered with a Pokémon from the Eevee evolutionary line. There came a time in each child's life when they would receive their destined companion, bred from the two Pokémon that fought alongside their mother and father. Despite his many shortcomings, Gray would also be given an Eevee of its own. Even if the boy was disappointing in many ways, the child of two champion Pokémon would certainly pick up the slack. At least, that was the plan.

Much like Gray, this Eevee was unable to measure up to its siblings. Small and frail, the runt was neglected by the mother. Deprived of care, it wouldn't last much longer.

Upon seeing this, Gray's father could only sigh, disappointed with how things had turned out. A member of the Luster family couldn't be given something like that. It was truly a shame that things had turned out in such a way, as the Pokémon's beautiful silver coat would've been a welcomed addition to their family. Receiving an apology from his father, Gray was promised a new one within the next few months, planning to do away with the newborn.

Hearing his father's words while watching the creature, something was triggered within the boy. For the first time, he grew bold enough to speak out against the man, requesting that he be allowed to keep the Pokémon that would soon be cast aside. It was hard to say what exactly caused Gray to do something so uncharacteristic, usually only able to reply to his father with a silent nod and do as he was told. Maybe it was how much of himself that he saw in that Eevee, or the simple inability to turn away from a living being that was in need of care.

It took a great amount of convincing until his father would relent, allowing his child's selfish request after seeing how odd he behaved. It was the first time he had ever asked for anything. If the boy was so determined to keep the Pokémon, he would let it be. However, it would be his responsibly to raise it into a champion that was worthy of being a Luster. The same went for Gray himself.

Without the aid of his family or the Eevee's mother, Gray took it upon himself to raise the newborn, now known as "V". Every moment of his spare time was dedicated to improving its health, feeding it and keeping it warm at night. It was an arduous task, but he never considered giving up. Even if he couldn't explain why, he felt like this was something that he had to do.

After a long period of rehabilitation, V grew to be healthy and full of energy, frequently showing its gratitude to the one that that had saved its life. Many of his family members considered it to be a wasted effort, as the creature was still weak in comparison to those that surrounded it, much like their youngest sibling. However, Gray didn't pay much attention to their words. Whenever saw V's cheerful expression, coupled with his coat of shining silver, he knew that he had made the right choice. Whenever he was with his partner, he truly felt happy.

He loves to observe Pokémon.

He's good at acting and can hide most basic feelings from appearing on his face. He's a pretty decent leader and somewhat charismatic. He is agile and has the reflexes of a cat. He instinctively swats anything thrown at him out of the air. He's pretty good with Pokémon biology.
Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears:
He hates the heat and loses his composure when it's hot. He isn't that athletic, and has to take a break after around 10 seconds of running. He's sort of slow at realizing things. He's terrible at looking for things. He's not good at judging a challenge's difficulty. He's scared of tiny things like bugs, and he's afraid of being unwanted.
General Background:
Enton was born Lucanosa town, and spent most of his time in the areas around there, and would write down the behavior of any Pokémon came across in his notebook. His parents realized how much he liked to do that, so they'd take him to different towns so he could observe the Pokémon there. One of the trips was with his older sister to victory road, where he befriended his first Pokémon, a Deino he later called Rockin'. He would walk around to nearby towns and even go swimming to observe fish Pokémon. He would even climb trees to watch Flying types.
Enton has lived his life without a goal for a while, trying many different things to find what he's really good at. He tried science, history, cooking, and various other topics, but he was god awful at all of them. The thing he was the worst at was cooking, he could somehow burn Mac n' Cheese. He realized after a while that his calling was becoming a Pokémon Professor. Since then, he started to pay more attention to any Pokémon he encountered, with Rockin' being his favorite.

The reason he moved to Kanto was because his family moved there for work reasons. His dad is a lawyer who was hired to settle a dispute about someone suing the Pokémon safari because they were attacked by a Rhyhorn. Aparrently, the person threw a rock and hit the Rhyhorn in the eye, which then caused it to charge at them. Enton ended up applying for, and being accepted into, RBY Institute in the year that they were there, so they're staying so he can graduate and get a trainer license. His parents wanted him to apply for BW university in Unova, but Enton was adamant about going to RBY.
Future Goal:
Pokémon Professor.

Describe how your character caught their first Pokemon:
Enton was in Route 13, observing a Drifloon when his older sister asked if he wanted to go with her to Victory Road and observe the Pokémon there. He happily accepted and followed her there. When they got there, his sister was too fast and he couldn't keep up, so he got lost. He didn't mind at the time, because this would allow him to observe the Pokémon there. After a while, or in his terms, two notebook pages later, he came across a Deino. It was running away from something, and ended up accidentally tackling Enton. Enton tried to calm the Deino down, but soon realized what it was running from. He almost saw his life flash before his eyes as a very pissed off Haxorus came around a corner, spotted the Deino, and charged at them. Enton quickly stuffed the Deino into his coat, zipped it up, and began running. Although the haxorus began hurling boulders at him, Enton didn't drop the Deino.
Enton manged to make it to the outside of Victory Road and found his older sister in a battle with someone, though the battle shifted from with the other trainer to the wild Haxorus, which was quickly defeated by her Vanilluxe. Enton then recieved a scolding for angering the Haxorus before he could explain what happened. Although he had to drop the Deino because his sister wouldn't let him bring it home, it followed him when he headed back to Route 13, and Enton spent the rest of the day observing the friendly little Dragon Type. When he brought it home, his parent reluctantly let him keep it, and got him a Pokeball for it the week after.

Name: Umeko Ohara
Gender: Female
Age: 13

Appearance:

tumblr_mrggox70aE1sstth7o1_1280.jpg

Umeko’s attire reflects her passion for adventure and the ancient world, and takes direction from the quintessential attire of archeologists and self titled Ruin-Maniacs. Canvas pants and light cotton shirts are the staples of her wardrobe, coming in an array of tans, browns, blues, greens, and whites. It is also common to see her wearing gloves, a work vest, and hiking boots, particularly when out exploring. For colder climates the vest is replaced with a thick black coat and in windy conditions a pair of rubber goggles are likely to be found strapped to her head.

Home Region: Kanto
Hometown: Vermillion City
Likes: Spicy food, thick books, old relics, prehistoric creatures, warm weather, playing outdoors.
Dislikes: Cooking, sand in her boots, being underestimated, muggy weather, being cooped up, blood-sucking critters (Ie. Leeches, Golbat, Gorebyss, etc).
Hobbies: Exploring, Excavating, Reading, Doodling, Swimming.

Skills, Talents, Strengths: Umeko prides herself on being extremely methodical and organized in her work habits, taking great care in keeping her space tidy and her notes concise as well as informative. She is diligent in recording all which she learns and uncovers, with carefully etched sketches accompanying her writing when warranted (Though they are moreso rudimentary rather than artistic). In social situations, she’s inherently accommodating of others and is seldom fussy, preferring to ‘go with the flow’ and adapt rather than complain about something. The girl is by no means courageous, but does her best to overcome any obstacles which stand in her way.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: Despite her efforts to maintain a calm exterior, her worries often get the better of her and as a result the girl gets quite flustered in risky or unexpected situations (And she hates when people notice it). A normally docile individual, Umeko becomes uncharacteristically prickly when others criticize or make fun of her work in any way, and is quick to retort in such situations. This unwillingness to accept judgement from peers coupled with her ineptitude at asserting herself in a group often results in her choosing to work alone rather than try to solve problems with her peers. While Umeko will happily eat whatever is put on her plate, her own culinary repertoire is currently limited to eggs, rice, and pre-made meals.

Background: The only child of Haruo and Junko, a crane operator and Pokemon care worker respectively, Umeko was born into a loving, if not overprotective, family. From the time she could crawl she was an energetic youngster, scampering around the house and yard with reckless abandon, often getting into trouble in the process. Filled with curiosity, she sought to explore every nook and cranny of her surroundings, and took great joy in adventuring around the bustling port city where she resided, from the well-tended parks to the untamed wilderness of the surrounding routes. It was frankly exhausting for her parents, who were always running in circles trying to make sure she didn’t get hurt, but for the numerous scrapes, bumps, and time-outs she got, the child never quite learned the meaning of ‘No’.

As she became older, her doting parents enrolled her in a myriad of activities as they tried to expose her to everything and anything. They wanted their child to be an accomplished, well-rounded youth. Umeko, recognizing their intentions and being an open-minded kid, humoured her parents and their efforts as she tried the array of extra-curriculars they put her in. Yet eventually, her interest would wane and she’d instead look to try something new. For one season it might be gymnastics or basketball, the next painting and martial arts- she was akin to a bee buzzing from one flower to the next. However, it was at the tender age of eight that something truly caught her attention; bones. Specifically, the skeletal remains of a Kabutops she saw when visiting the Pewter City Museum for a school trip. To imagine that it had once been a fearsome creature to roam the lands and oceans, hundreds of thousands of years ago… the thought enraptured the girl unlike anything else. From that point onward, her focus was solely on that ancient, unknown past. She poured over countless books discussing the topic, and the once lively youth stilled as her mind’s eye roamed across vast realms of a bygone era.

Her parent’s reaction to this newfound interest? Equal parts of joy and apprehension. As happy as they were to see their little girl find something she was passionate about, they worried still for both her safety and career prospects. Despite these anxieties though, they tried their best to encourage Umeko, quietly waiting for the day when her gaze might be set towards more practical aspirations. Between school and work, holidays were spent along the beaches near the city as well as travelling to Pewter City and the nearby Mt. Moon, where on one occasion the child found a moonstone fragment amidst the dirt and debris, her first archaeological find. When travelling abroad, the family always tried to take time to visit any nearby places of archeological interest, and it was during an excursion to the deserts of Hoenn that Umeko captured her first pokemon whilst exploring a strange tower of sand. To have such a strange and wonderful experience, well, nothing could have thrilled her more, and for weeks thereafter she passionately regaled the tales of that vacation to anyone who would listen to her.

It was then that her parents realized they would need to ramp up their efforts if they were ever to change their daughter’s mind. So shortly after her twelfth birthday, Umeko was sat down by Haruo to have a ‘grown-up’ talk. He told her how proud they were that she was such a keen, hard-working student, and then not-so delicately suggested that she take those skills and work towards some other goal for the future. After all, the man reasoned with her, there were few ways one could have a good career as a ‘dinosaur hunter’, which could be a rather dangerous profession what with traversing through caverns and other isolated places. And the child had such a bright mind that she could accomplish anything she set her mind to- perhaps an engineer or doctor? At the time, the young girl could only nod quietly in response to the suggestions, but in truth Umeko’s heart was effectively torn to bits by her father’s cruel words. To know that all this time, her parent’s had thought her passions and goals to be little more than childish whimsy, that they didn’t believe that she could make her dreams a reality… it was a difficult realization to learn for one so young, one which fundamentally altered her. It was shortly thereafter that she asked her school teacher to help her apply to the RBY Academy, who was kind enough to help her without questioning the child. When her letter of acceptance came in the mail, her parent’s were thoroughly surprised yet pleased with the development- it was after all a very prestigious school, with many of its graduates going on to successful careers. And so with their blessing Umeko heads off to the school, successful in escaping her parents watchful eyes. Maybe they’d be angry with her if they knew her true motives for applying to the school, but it didn’t matter in the long run- once she and her companion prove themselves capable of taking care of themselves, surely they’ll have no reason to disapprove of her future aspirations anymore…. right?

Future Goal/ Career: Palaeontologist

First Pokemon: Baltoy

Nickname: Yajiro

Appearance:

baltoy_by_danny_spikes-d6om5ri.png

Likes: Sour foods, racing, making dust trails, adventuring.

Dislikes: Pamtre berries, heights, getting wet, being ignored.

Relationship with trainer: When the two first met, Yajiro and Umeko’s interest in one another was primarily for research purposes. The Baltoy was the first living ancient Pokemon which Umeko had ever encountered, while she was a particularly strange (not to mention short) human compared to others the spinning pokemon had encountered. Over time though, this curiosity has evolved into camaraderie, both having an insatiable desire to explore and discover more about the world around them as well as what came before. Yajiro (Or Yaji) can be rather hyperactive at times, and has a naturally mischievous streak which can be overwhelming for its trainer. Likewise, Umeko’s more patient (Read: slow) ways can be irksome to the small pokemon, and there are plenty of instances where the pair disagree for one reason or another on the best course of action. Most of the time though, they are able to set aside their differences or else move past them, and overall are quite good friends.

Legendary Bird: Moltres

Character’s favourite Pokemon type: Psychic

Favorite Legendary: Regigigas

What Pokemon your character most resembles/why: Wobuffet. A naturally even-tempered individual, Umeko isn’t one to complain about difficult circumstances, but rather passively waits for things to improve (Even when it’s unlikely that it will change without her intervention). However, there are a handful of subjects she’s particularly touchy about, and if someone provokes her ire, she’ll retaliate in full force without hesitation.

What your character hopes to gain from joining RBY Institute: Umeko hopes that by joining RBY Institute, she’ll learn to become a proper pokemon trainer and that both Yaji and herself will become strong enough to take care of themselves wherever life takes them. The girl is also looking forward to escaping the helicopter parents’ prying eyes to continue her archaeological pursuits unburdened.

How Pokemon affect your character’s life: The most immediate impact pokemon have had is that some of her Baltoy’s liveliness has rubbed off on her, making her a bit more of a ‘go-getter’ than she was before.

Describe how your character caught their first Pokemon:
Hoenn: Route 111
Blistering was the heat, the kind that clung to your skin and made sweat drip from every pore in your body. The blustering winds did little to offer reprieve from the hot conditions, instead adding insult to injury by tossing up sand and debris, which easily stuck to the girl’s perspiring frame as she stood before the monument. The young lady was in some part of her mind aware that her parents were probably worried sick about her and that she ought to make her way back to their tour group. but that rationale was swiftly cast aside as sheer awe filled her mind. It was difficult to clearly see even with her goggles on, but she could just make out the silhouette of the great tower looming above her. In one of her books, she swore she had at some point read something about a mysterious structure which was periodically seen in the deserts of Hoenn, but to have actually found it herself?! It was enough to send a wave of giddiness through her entire being, and in her excitement she couldn’t help but jump for joy. “Ohhhhh…. oh my god oh my god oh my god, yahaa!” the blue-haired girl cried out in a jubilant moment before realizing how silly she was being. “Ahhh, ahahah.” she breathed, slightly embarrassed by her reaction, face turning a pinkish hue as she sought to get a grip of herself. Little did she know that all the while she had an audience to her display of unhindered enthusiasm.

Cautiously Umeko stepped closer to the beckoning structure, trying to get a better look at the ancient architecture. The blowing sand obscured her vision, but by her estimates it had to be at least three stories tall. Even stranger still was that despite the arid landscape and harsh conditions, the tower appeared to have suffered far less erosion than the other ruins they had encountered on their tour. Maybe it was built more recently? she pondered quietly as she took it in, slowly walking her way around the perimeter of the walls. There weren’t any inscriptions on the surface from what she could tell, nor had she found any doors, windows, or other means of entry. But surely there had to be some way to get inside, right? At least that’s what the child suspected, so around she went, only stopping to brace for the particularly powerful gusts which flew about. It was after repeating this twice that she finally paused, unsure what to do since there seemed to be no means of passage. Somewhat disgruntled that her first major discovery was being thwarted, the girl turned around to trot once more when she came face to face with a small figure. Leaning over to get a better look at it, she took in the being’s top-like shape, the long arm-like extensions which hung from its sides, the way it tilted from side to side as it too seemed to inspect her. Slowly, Umeko gingerly stretched out her hand towards it in greeting. “Hey there…” she called out in a hushed voice, afraid of scaring off the small thing. But it was not as meek as that, and in return the being chirped out a strange, high-pitched tone whilst tilting in her direction as if to bow. For a few long minutes the pair stood there, silently analyzing one another.

It was just as the head guide was going to send someone out to search for their missing party member that from the sandstorm came the little lady, coughing heavily as the particles filled her throat. Two figures quickly got off the dune buggy to reach the girl, concern and relief heavy in their voices. Cooing over their little darling, they remained oblivious to what she held firmly but gently in her grasp. As she spat the grainy substance from her mouth, Umeko finally looked up to her parents, the undiluted awe and wonder clear in her expression. “Mom, Dad, you guys won’t believe what I found! There’s this huge old tower over there, it’s got to be twice as tall as our house, and was made out of these huge blocks of stone- you’ve got to see it… and look at this!” She exclaimed, gleefully lifting up the top pokemon for all to see.

Surprise filled her parents expression as they stared at the strange creature, unsure as to whether it was an artifact or not until the red markings on its body began to glow whilst nodding its head. “It’s a Baltoy!!! They say in the books that they used to live with the ancient civilizations and were guardians to their temples of worship, but nowadays they’re usually found near ruins and stuff, and it’s believed that they were initially clay toys before they were zapped by this laser beam of some kind… can I keep it?” the girl finally concluded, panting slightly as she sought to catch her breath. Utterly bewildered by their daughter’s reaction, Junko was the first one to speak. “Well, that all sounds like quite something sweetheart, but I’m not sure if we’re allowed to take Pokemon we see on the tour. Sir?” her mother paused, looking over to the guide who seemed a bit shocked himself. “Err, well now, we technically don’t have a policy in place strictly saying people can or can’t capture pokemon while out of our excursions. Certain species are protected for conservation purposes, but while Baltoy’s aren’t the most common species, they’re not considered at-risk in any way either, and it seems it likes you well enough… Sooo, long story short, I don’t see any problems with it.” the frazzled man finally says with a shrug. Satisfied with his answer, Umeko’s gaze fixates once more onto her parents, a pleading look in her eyes. “I promise that I’ll take good care of it, and if it ever causes any trouble it'll be my responsibility to handle it…. please?” she implored. After her mother and father look at each other silently for a long moment, it’s Haruo who finally nods. “Most kids get their first pokemon around your age, so I see no reason why you shouldn’t have one either. But we’ll be keeping you to your promise, understand missy?” he says sternly, though the display is foiled by the small grin on his face as he tussles her hair affectionately. Nodding eagerly, Umeko’s focus returned to the small being in her hands, smiling warmly as she carefully hugged the Baltoy. Confused by the small human’s actions, the top pokemon was none the less amused by its gesture and mimicked it, wrapping its own appendages around the girl’s neck.

Dislikes (3+):

  • Having to be very patient

Hobbies:
  • Coming up with battle strategies and moves
  • Nature walks

Skills/Talents/Strengths:

Trey shows his prowess with Pokemon Battling. He tends to try new methods of battling and always wants to come up with more. Being an outdoorsman, Tyko is knowledgeable about survival and the environment. His ongoing determination allows him to keep on going despite the obstacles. He tends to apply his creativity in order to learn.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears:

When it comes to regular tasks such as remembering what to buy and etc, Trey tends to have problems. He tends to show absentmindedness which may lead people to believe that he's quite forgetful. Trey isn't immune to hqving slumps which can greatly demotivate him as well as him struggling to find a solution.

General Background:

Growing up in Viridian City, Trey often spent his time at the Viridian Forest as well as Route 22. He would often spend his time looking at the many Pokemon inhabiting the forest as well as looking at Mount Silver. His father used to be a strong trainer back in his youth before settling down for a more quiet life with his family. As such Trey would hear about his father's Pokemon battles. He would even see his father in action as he uses his Pokemon in battles against the local trainers. Trey's love for battling really took flight the more he saw his father battle. He would often discuss about Pokemon with the other local kids and pretend that they were trainers. Much of his childhood was surrounded on the dream of being a real Pokemon trainer.

Despite not having a Pokemon at the time, Trey spent his time in the outdoors learning as much as he could about Pokemon and their habitat. There were plenty of books he picked up at the library to read in order to learn more about Pokemon. Due to how much time he had spent outside as well as the knowledge he learned, Trey had developed quite a bit of outdoorsman skills. Getting lost in the Viridian Forest had become impossible for the young boy. Sometimes his father would teach Trey about battling as well as battle strategy in order to win the fight. It wasn't easy for him to apply his learning but he would pick up eventually.

It wasn't until a bit later in his life when he had learned about the RBY Institute. He would end up applying for it when he turned 13 and had received his acceptance not too long after. This was Trey's chance, the opportunity that he had been waiting for. It was a chance for him to train and become the best trainer there was. It was an exciting moment the day he received his acceptance letter. He had never even touched or even seen a Pokedex in his life. Feeling determined, he would prepare himself for RBY as well as the challenges that it would bring. Never before had he felt more ready in his life than now.

Future Goal: To become the best trainer

Important Questions for your character's admittance into RBY Institute. Answer honestly please.

Moltress, Articuno, or Zapdos? Zapdos

What is your character’s favorite pokemon type?

Favorite Legendary? Rayquaza

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why? Pidgeot

Trey, like a Pidgeot, loves to roam around with such freedom. He wants to soar and explore to his heart's content as a strong Pokemon Trainer.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?

He hopes to improve his skills as a trainer in order to become the best. It is also an excellent chance for him to explore and see new Pokemon that he hadn't seen before.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life? It gave Trey a dream, something that he would continue to pursue as he heads to RBY Institute. Without Pokemon, Trey would not be who he is today.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon: (This one’s a required writing sample. Give me an idea of your writing length, style, and what you’re willing to bring to this rp)

Location: Viridian Forest
Time: Around mid-noon

Trey felt a height of jubilance that he hadn't felt before. How could he not? He was going to find and capture his first ever Pokemon, and he couldn't help but have a small golden smile on his face. With each step, he would scout around with a careful gleam in his eyes, his left hand holding a single Pokeball. His father had told him that he was finally ready to have a Pokemon of his own, but he had to pick carefully since this was going to be his first partner. The Viridian Forest felt awfully quiet today, as if the Pokemon were trying to hide from the would-be trainer. Still, this wouldn't deter the boy one bit. Within his eyes were a burning fire that refused to die out until he would accomplish his current mission.

"Now... if I were a Pokemon living in the forest.... I think I would hide up in the trees. Yeah that makes tons of sense."

As expected, Trey began to climb up a very tall tree. Upon reaching a branch to act as a foot-hold, he found next to no Pokemon hiding between the branches. It was quite disappointing but he would keep on searching nonetheless. So he would do as any ordinary child would do within the tree tops, swing from branch to branch of course. Despite not finding any Pokemon thus far, his face only read excitement from swinging between branches. Then, quite suddenly, a branch would break as he tried to swing on it. He was going to fall down onto the ground and the distance between them was more than just 10 feet. As the young lad was screaming, a sudden string shot came out of nowhere and wrapped itself onto the boy's right ankle.

The boy would then be brought down to the ground gently as the string shot broke. "Oof! Ah geez... that was really close. Would've been really bad if I took that fall. What saved me?" He looked around until he would stare straight up at the tree branches. There was a lone Weedle climbing itself down from the branch and down the trunk. As soon as it touched the ground, it would crawl towards Trey.

"Oh a Weedle, so you were the one that saved me right? Thanks a bunch! I uh... would've well who knows what would've happened if you didn't use String Shot. String shot's more sturdy than I thought." The Weedle would stare at him with curious eyes. Trey, having picked up on that, would respond.

"Oh so I guess you're wondering what I was doing huh? Well I was actually looking for a Pokemon. See my dad gave me a Pokeball and I couldn't find a single Pokemon today. It was just weird but hey least I found you right? Though honestly I could always check back tomorrow. I'm not in a rush or anything and today taught me a valuable lesson about branch safety."

The Weedle would then come closer as it eyes the Pokeball. "Wait... you want me to catch you?" The Weedle shakes it's head. Trey's face let out a happy "YES!" He was quite ecstatic at finding a Pokemon that would be his partner. "Wow so you're going to be my first Pokemon. Well if that's true then you're going to need a name... Oh I know how about Stinger?" The Weedle responded with a happy-sounding pitch. Trey smirks as he then let's the Pokeball touch Weedle. "Welcome aboard Stinger! I caught my first Pokemon!!!" He happily runs back to show his father.

Name: David Stone (no relation to the President of the Devon Company).

Gender: Male.

Age:
17.

Home Region: Hoenn (but his family currently lives in Kanto).

Hometown: Sootopolis City.

Likes (3+):
For some reason, David utterly adores mint foods. Mint thins, mint imperials, mint ice cream...he loves the stuff. He's also fond of battling as it requires a strong mind and will, alongside an unbreakable bond between his Pokémon and him, to win against an opponent (but, he is also fond of other feats that help develop/prove his strength such as puzzles, working out and that sort of thing. Stuff that challenges you). Finally, above all else, he loves his Riolu. Nothing would ever change that. He is also a huge fan of sailing - after all, he has been doing it since he was 10.

Dislikes (3+): He utterly despises people who insult him - not for the insult itself, but for the fact that they are the sort to insult people; He also doesn't like people helping him out - he's his own man, and he should be able to take care of his problems himself. Finally, he doesn't like being weak. Weak of heart, weak of mind...he doesn't mind losing as long as he put up a good fight first. To show that he may not be the strongest, but he isn't weak.

Hobbies: Battling, going to various clubs (like gym, chess etc) and improving himself.

Skills/Talents/Strengths: David prides himself on being strong in most areas, and as a result will not back down from anything - in short, he is not a coward. He is quite strategic and intelligent, too, and usually can come up with ways to win that no-one else would even consider. He is very determined - when he wants to do something, he will do it. He is also reliable, in that sense. He is also amazing at sailing from his seven years on the sea, and as a result can track by the stars, tie and untie strong knots and general sailing stuff.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: He does have his flaws, however. He can often underestimate the weight of a challenge, and as a result making it way more stressful or difficult, making it possible that he might fail. He has a high pride in himself, which is both his strength and weakness, as it sometimes gets him into trouble. He also refuses help from people in most situations - this never affects his Pokémon, but can result in himself being injured and staying that way for a while to come.

General Background: He never knew his mother - she left his father a couple of years after he was born. From what he heard about his mother, however, was that she was an infamous fraud expert, and was eventually arrested for her crimes. That left him with his father - a sailor by trade, he ran a fairly successful trade ferrying people in and out of Sootopolis with his submarine (along with cargo). Apparently, David's father had won the rundown old submarine in a game of poker then talked to his old marine buddies and fixed it up together - and now, it sailed under the sea helping out those who either cannot get in/out of Sootopolis easily, or cannot afford to. Soon enough, he was able to hire more submarines and workers and the business blossomed into a great cash cow.

Due to the success of the ferrying business, David's father decided to take his son on a trip around the world. Of course, David was thrilled with this. Not much older than 10 at the time, David had spent most of his life within the crater that surrounds Sootopolis City and had never really seen anything outside except a small portion of Hoenn. He wasn't necessarily bored in Sootopolis - he had many friends there, but it was after a talk with one of the shop owners that he realized that his life wasn't going places. His dad was successful, yes, and it was likely he'd inherit that success but he never had any goals of his own. Any dreams. So, when his father proposed the idea of a trip around the world, he happily accepted.

And so, the father and his son roamed the world stopping off at pretty much all locations - the Orange Islands, the different regions, even Mirage Island. David was happy to be out in the world, and his father was happy to be on the sea once more. Every now and then, however, his father would spend a few months in one of the places they'd end up to teach him life lessons. One such lesson was the value of work at Unova's Floccesy Ranch, around David's 15th birthday, where the pair had been allowed to work part time on the fields with the Pokémon. That was where David found his love for completion - nothing had ever made him happier than finishing everything on the to-do list he was given daily. Of course, that was also where he found his life-long friend - his Riolu.

The final stop was Kanto. Both David and his father enjoyed the past seven years around the world, but they were getting a bit tired. While David had made many friends, he also had to leave behind many friends and while that was part of the lessons his dad was teaching him, he was now just wanting a place to permanently stay - a place to call home once more. His dad had a similar mindset, and so the pair bought a nice house in Pallet Town, and David started to attend a school in Kanto called the RBY Institute.

Future Goal: He wants to beat every and all Gym Leaders, Elite members and Champions of every region. Only then will he feel satisfied...that is, until he finds something else to work towards.

About the Pokemon
First/Chosen Pokemon: Riolu.

Nickname (Optional): Calcum.

Likes (2+):
Fighting, meditating and Pecha berries. Calcum has also appeared to have adopted his Trainer's love for sailing. He also adores Moomoo milk.

Dislikes (2+): Hostile people, being alone and a strong disdain against PokeBlocks. He doesn't like the taste of them - even if they are made from his favourite berries. They taste too...artificial for him. Similarly, he doesn't like fast food or basically anything not natural.

Relationship with trainer: As best as it can get, really. He never questions David's commands, as he has full trust in him, and generally loves him. After all, they had both effectively grown up together on the sea. The sea works wonders on friendships, as David's dad always says. David reckons he isn't far off evolving - Calcum is certainly happy enough to do it. He reckons Calcum wants to become stronger by battling (after all, they never really got much training done on their trip) before evolving, as some way of proving to himself that he earns the right to be a Lucario.

Other(Optional): Calcum wears a necklace made of an old orichalcum coin that the pair found on one of their adventures at sea. Even though the coin is old and worn down, the silvery colour still shines through. He wears it with pride as it resembles the bond the pair share - not like he needs a reminder of it, anyways. David also wears a similar necklace, as a sort of friendship thing. Besides, it looks quite cool to be wearing an ancient coin.

Important Questions for your character's admittance into RBY Institute. Answer honestly please.
Moltress, Articuno, or Zapdos?: Hmm...I don't really prefer one over the other two...so I guess I'll pick Articuno.

What is your character’s favorite pokemon type?: Fighting - most fighting types are strong willed as well as strong bodied, which is what David inspires himself to be.

Favorite Legendary?: I do love Regigigas (and the Regis in general). They look cool to me, and I like the effort you have to put in to get them.

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why?: Probably a Fighting type like Lucario or perhaps Blaziken. He is strong willed and proud, like them, and wishes to improve himself, by himself. He typically refuses help and fights partially for his own improvement and pride - similar to a Lucario. He is also very loyal to his friends, like such Pokémon.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?: Well, other than a Pokémon Trainer license, David hopes to gain the skills as a Pokémon Trainer to raise powerful Pokémon to help achieve his dreams. He wants to be the new Red, after all.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life?: Well, Pokémon never really played a bit part in his life (at least, until he got his own Pokémon) while he was in Sootopolis and on the sea, so they never really affected him there before. Other than the occasional Wailmer sighting, he never really came into contact with Pokémon while sailing and Pokémon never really visited Sootopolis. Of course, that changed when he went around to the other parts of the world. Working in the ranch, specifically, he realized how much Pokémon gave him joy and satisfaction, and soon wanted to spend his life with them. Soon enough, he began to see Pokémon as friends that always had your back, if you had theirs.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon:

The sun was starting to set behind Floccesy Ranch. The sounds of the nearby towns and roads had subsided, and the fields were empty of Pokémon - even Pokémon need their sleep, after all. After giving all of the Miltanks their final meal of hay for the day, David stretches long and hard towards the sky, satisfied as he crossed off one of the final tasks from his list of work orders. Some saw them as chores, as he never got paid for them, but he always saw them as character building. To David, there was nothing more satisfying than a complete list on a piece of paper - something about ticking that last box really energized him. All he had to do now was lock up and carry the bottles of milk to storage.

Just because David was looking forward to finishing the final task for the night, however, didn't mean that his body did. He was only 13 at the time, after all, and despite his years on the sea he was still developing his muscles - that, and he had already exhausted his body with a full day of work. Not that he regretted it, of course, but he soon realized that he would need a bit of rest before carrying on the final stretch towards the end. Sitting down at the entrance to the ranch, a stone throw from the main farmhouse itself, David sighed as he rubbed his aching arms. Not long now, he thought to himself, not long. After a few minutes, however, he jumps at the sound of glass clinking next to him. He didn't see anything, but...some of the milk bottles were missing? Where did they go? David looked around for where they could be, or who could've stole them, but he saw nothing. Confused, David continued towards the farmhouse and eventually turned in for the night.

All he could think about before dropping off was what could've happened to those bottles. I mean, he contemplated, bottles don't just disappear on their own! Maybe I miscounted them? Oh, or maybe I dropped them somewhere? Did something take them? While all of these questions raced through his mind, however, he didn't notice that he was slowly nodding off to sleep. Within a few minutes, he was already completely gone from exhaustion - passed out on his bed.

Still, the questions didn't leave him as he continued the next day's work. Today, he was helping his dad shear the Mareep for wool, but he could barely concentrate on it. When his dad asked him why he was so distracted, however, David was quick to reply. "Oh...err...nothing, Dad!" He immediately regretted his decision - his dad always knew when he was lying. Yet, to his surprise, his dad didn't seem to say much else after that - usually his dad tended to pry into details, but this time he didn't...perhaps he knew something David didn't?

Instead, he told him that the ranch owners wanted more milk to be brought in from the barn tonight. David looked at him with confusion - he already did that yesterday, and his dad liked to try and give him varied jobs, but he didn't argue. Perhaps this was his punishment for lying to him? Still, David agreed.

To his word, David left that night after supper to go fetch the milk again - the Miltanks were already sorted for the night, so all that needed to be done was to bring the milk in. This time, however, he wasn't going to lose any milk. He kept his eye more on the milk than he did the path, and nearly suffered for it by stumbling in the dark a few times, and refused to let anything take this milk. He was nearly at the farmhouse again, around the same spot as last time, when he did one final check on the milk. To his surprise, however, he saw a small limb reach for the milk. With a shout, he whips around to see a small, blue figure stand in front of him. David felt...odd, by the presence as the creature's piercing red eyes locked with his own.

Suddenly, from the nearby bushes, a large figure approached the pair. The creature, who he had guessed to be a Pokémon of some kind, didn't seem intimidated by this new figure, however. "Dad?" David said, looking at his father with confusion in his eyes, "Why are you here?".

"You know, they say Pokémon choose the Trainer, not the other way around. This is especially true with Riolu. They say Riolu can measure up a person from their Aura - and this one seems to like your energy." As he speaks in his usual gravelly voice, David could've sworn he saw a glint of nostalgia in his eyes. "So," David says, "This Riolu wants to be my Pokémon?" To that his dad simply chuckles as he hands over a tiny red and white orb, which got bigger as David pressed the button on it.

"Why don't we find out?"

Name: Alain Villenueve

Gender: Male

Age: 10

Appearance:
RedBoy.jpg

Home Region: Kalos

Hometown: Route 14

Likes (3+): Making friends, playing board games, sweet food

Dislikes (3+): Being alone, studying, spicy food.

Hobbies: Battling, reading for enjoyment, long walks.

Skills/Talents/Strengths: Underneath his seemingly carefree demeanor lies a tactical mind suited for battling. Although lacking in actual experience, Alain takes to battling like a fish to water. His natural charisma also helps him bring out the most in his Pokemon. The circumstances of his upbringing have also imparted a sort of fearlessness with him.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: Alain also possesses a terrible work ethic that makes actually passing classes a struggle - were it not for practical exams he'd likely flunk out. Which is, of course, one of his biggest concerns at the moment. His fearless disposition combined with his foolish tendencies can also land him in serious danger.

General Background: There was a once a woman, a ballerina who stunned Kalos with her skill and dedication to the art of dancing. Though a rising star, she never once grasped happiness. After a certain point in her career, she felt like little more than a porcelain doll only fit as decoration on stage. Of course, this all changed upon a chance meeting with a certain man. He was a travelling Trainer from Kanto. Cheerful and outgoing, he dragged her out of her melancholy. The subsequent romance they shared was passionate and hidden from the public eye. And although he possessed a certain wanderlust, the woman was confident that she'd give him a reason to stay. Especially once she had revealed that a child was on the way...

And yet, despite his joyous reaction to the news, that man simply vanished this day - he had apparently departed from the region and left only a single, vague letter. This, combined with the pressures of her career and the toll that the pregnancy took on her body, caused a nervous breakdown in the woman. She was quickly institutionalized after giving birth to healthy baby boy and perhaps could be considered as good as dead to the public eye.

The boy, left without a mother nor a father to care for him, was left in the care of a family friend - an old man who lived alone in a solitary house on Route 14 who scared curious travelers with scary stories. The boy spent much of his days playing with the wild Pokemon in the area - particularly ghosts. That tendency, combined with the reputation of that lonely house, perhaps led to the boy being ostracized by the other children who resided in Laverre town.

After reaching the age of 10, this boy was told the tale of his parent's tragic romance. Armed with this knowledge and a partner at his side, the young boy decided upon attending RBY rather than a Kalosian institute for two reasons. The first was to become accustomed to the rigors of travelling as a prospective trainer. The second, of course, was to perhaps some years down the line, find his father. What he intends to do upon finally meeting him, however, is a secret only known to him/

Future Goal: Undecided

About the PokémonFirst/Chosen Pokémon: Gastly

Nickname (Optional): Rictus

Appearance:

Likes (2+): Poké Puffs, playing pranks, old houses, battling

Dislikes (2+): Idling around, scrappy Pokémon, regular berries

Relationship with trainer: Although Rictus has only been Alain's Pokémon for a while, they've been the best of friends for years now. Rictus's mischievous nature complements Alain's playful personality and both share a mutual love of battling.

Important Questions for your character's admittance into RBY Institute. Answer honestly please.
Moltress, Articuno, or Zapdos?
Articuno

What is your character’s favorite pokemon type?
Steel.

Favorite Legendary?
Deoxys

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why?
Rockruff. Playful and friendly, but they both hide surprising resilience underneath their cute exteriors.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?
Alain hopes to hone his burgeoning battle skills and expose himself to the world outside of Route 14. He also hopes that he can actually make friends and lifelong relationships here.

How does Pokémon affect your character’s life?

The wild Pokémon of Route 14 have served as constant companions to Alain from a young age. They've both played and protected him - it's hard to say where he'd be without them.

Describe how your character caught their first Pokémon:
"Mm? Alain, m'boy, you're home already?"

A slam of the door was the young boy's answer to his 'grandpappy'. The dandy gentleman placed his hat on his head with a soft sigh. Such an occurrence wasn't out of the ordinary for the boy. And although he tried as best as he could to raise the boy well and right, the stigma that came from living in this house would never quite leave Alain. Comforting another was difficult when you played an indirect role in their misery after all. And that's why he wasn't surprised at all when a certain, chilly apparition crept into the house.

"...There's only so much I can do before he inevitably leaves the nest..."

***
Quiet sobs echoed in the small room of that lonely house. Another day of school and another day of loneliness. Another day of playing catch against the wall. Another day of eating lunch alone. No matter how friendly he was, they simply shunned him as the 'Ghost Boy'.

"Gassss....."

The boy dried his tears upon the blanket of his bed and sat up. An ethereal, otherworldly face slowly phased through the wall with a malicious grin. Alain remained still, his eyes focused on the ghostly being. The air between was fraught with silence. And then, the creature swiftly closed the distance between them. Its mouth, curved into a perpetual grin, opened wide and...!

"Gyahaha! K-Knock it off Rictus!"

Where there were sobs were now replaced with uproarious laughter as the Gastly licked the boy with its spectral tongue. The boy brought the comparatively enormous orb of gas into a tight hug as he slowly calmed down. It was only now that he realized the weight of the objects in his pocket. He was nine years old and his birthday was steadily approaching.

"Say, Rictus. I'm going to be ten soon. And that means that I become a Trainer. And, as much as I like playing with you and the others, I want to leave here and see the rest of the world. Grandpappy was thinking of enrolling me at one of those really fancy academies too." The boy pulled out a Poké Ball with a soft sigh.

"...I don't want to say goodbye, but I'm not sure if I'd be the right trainer for you... But that's enough of that. Sorry, I brought up something so heavy, it's just been on my mind for a while. Now let's pla-"

"Gaaassssstly!"

The Ghost Pokémon gave him another good look before motioning towards the Poke Ball he held. As far as it was concerned, the boy was his favorite human. The sort that he wouldn't be averse to accompanying. When the boy raised up the device, he pressed the button against his face.

In his small hands, the ball shook. Once. Twice. Thrice. And then, a click as it locked. No words had been exchanged. But the boy had come to an understanding with the ethereal creature. He was no longer just a best friend for the boy, he was willing and ready to be his partner as well. As the Poké Ball shrank, Alain held it close to his heart. Regardless of what the future would hold, he'd be able to get through it with Rictus at his side.

Name: Gabriel Valerio

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Appearance:
Hoodie.jpg
Home Region: Alola
The main reasons he made the decision to go to the RBY Institute is because the Alola League is still relatively new and isn't widely recognized yet so becoming a part of it would be a waste of time. Plus the Trainer school in Alola is shit, especially since his father already taught him how the world of Pokemon works. Compared to all of that the RBY Institute is: world recognized for being founded by Blue, has a history with champions and Elite 4 members and god knows what else, plus Gabriel's father went there. All in all it's just a better place to learn and grow as a pokemon trainer aiming for the top, as far as Gabriel is concerned anyway. Plus none of the students know him there.

Skills/Talents/Strengths: Gabriel is an amazing and seasoned pokemon battler and pokemon tactician who can very quickly read a battle and figure out a strategy very quickly. His quick mind also comes in handy outside of battle for various reasons including all of the random trivia he seems to know. He is also very physically fit and full of stamina, allowing him to run, ride and swim for as long as he has ever needed. He also is one of those people who can eat as much as they want and never get fat. Gabriel, while he has few, is very loyal to those he considers friends and will not stand by while he could do something to help them or someone who doesn't have the means to help themselves.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: He can easily become distracted by wanting to learn more and this can lead to him putting himself in physical danger and going into dangerous situations. While he is a very skilled battler this has gone to his head and he has developed a bit of an ego and when combined with his curiosity makes for a dangerous combo. He can also be abrasive and blunt which leads to him usually being left alone in social settings, which is fine by him, but other people often view him as a weirdo.

General Background:
Gabriel Valerio is the son of Dominic Valerio, the Current Island Kahuna of Ula'Ula Island and member of the Alola Elite Four. Because of his father Gabriel was known around the Island and people always had an expectation of him to perform well in everything that he did, and Gabriel hated it so much that he would always be running away ,from his father or from his home, to go and do whatever he wanted around the Island. While he had been attacked by wild pokemon a few times and often came from with bruisers and scratches it never deterred him from going out and finding secret hideaways and little nooks that no one could get too.
As Gabriel got older he became more mature very quickly, seemingly overnight he had gone from a kid who seemed to not care about anything and just wanted to run around to someone who seemed dedicated.

He started properly listening to what his father had to teach him about the world, learnt the violin and taught himself how to sow. He still didn't care much for others, what they expected or what they thought of him, and he would still sneak out at least once a week but at that point it seemed to everyone like he was just going out rather than running away from life. His father had held him back from the choosing of a starter pokemon because of his attitude but seeing how he was growing Dominic finally set a date for his son to officially get his very own pokemon. The time of the ceremony came and Gabriel had not arrived on time, much to the expectations of some towns folk. However when he did show up everyone was shocked to see that he had a pokemon, Mimikyu, following him. Gabriel asked that his father let Mimikyu be his 'official' partner instead of the other choices. Seeing how dedicated and attached his son had become to this pokemon, his father let Gabriel foster the Ghost Type.

Over the next couple of months Mimikyu and Gabriel grew stronger and better as a team before Gabriel decided that the next step to take would be to head to the RBY Institute. He asked his father, a RBY Institute grad himself, to help him apply and get everything done so he could set off ASAP. When the letter eventually came with the pokedex and pokeballs, Gabriel could think of no other pokemon to go with him than Mimikyu and the pair set out towards their intertwined futures
Future Goal: Pokemon Champion/Elite Four and using that position to help others.

Pokemon have always been things used to battle in and around Gabriel's life but through events in his life he sees them as both friends you can rely on and tools that can help change the world.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon: ((I'm just gonna do how they met because how Gabriel caught Mimikyu is very boring.))

Sneaking away from home had always been easy for Gabriel, wait for his dad for fall asleep doing paperwork late at night, slip out the back door, down the alley then out into the open. Being cooped up all day hearing about this pokemon type and that pokemon battle had really brought down Gabriel's mood but now that he was out and about the smile returned to his face, and he knew exactly where to go. On his last outing Gabriel had found a house that looked abandoned, and an abandoned house usually meant an adventure. As he approached the house ominous noises could be heard from around the back of the house, however this only egged the young explorer on and he quickly circled the house to try and find the source of the noise.

Staying hidden in the dense bush land around the house Gabriel took a peek at what was making the noise, a yellow and brown pokemon, who was wounded badly. Throwing caution to the wind Gabriel quickly ran over to the injured pokemon to see what he could do, on approach however, the pokemon noticed the boy and retreated into the house.
"No! Come back"
He sadly called out, watching it vanish into the house.
Not wanting to scare the pokemon any more Gabriel decided to head home and come back the next day with knowledge and a plan. Doing a little bit of research through books and by asking his father he found out that the pokemon he had encountered was a Mimikyu and connected the dots, realizing that is was just the disguise that was damaged and not the actual pokemon inside. Over the next few days Gabriel read as much as he could about sewing and every night would sneak out and leave food for the Mimikyu until he had it finished.

A couple of weeks passed and Gabriel had finished what he had been working on. The day seemed to go on forever but eventually night came and Gabriel headed out as normal however brought a little something with him. Deciding it was best to announce himself he approached without trying to hide his presence at all.
"Mimikyu! Mimikyu! Where are you? I brought you more food, plus something extra...where are you?"
Unable to spot Mimikyu Gabriel sat down and placed both the food bowl and present in front of him and waited. Soon enough Mimikyu slowly made itself known, doing it's what it usually did to scare people and pokemon away. Gabriel, however, sat there staring down the Mimikyu, matching it's gaze with his own. Mimikyu was intrigued by the different human and slowly moved forward, the disguise still barely holding itself together. Once within reach Gabriel slowly lifted up the present to show Mimikyu, a new disguise to match the old one. Smiling towards his new friend he made his inner thoughts known.
"You know, I think I know what to do going forward"

Name: Otto Foster
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Home Region: Kanto
Hometown: Saffron City

Appearance: Otto is almost always wearing his favorite yellow windbreaker and wallet chain. He also rotates through his sneaker ''collection" regularly. Though the collection currently only contains two pairs of shoes, he ensures that they are kept looking pristine and new. When he is working, he prefers to tie his hair up.

Likes: Bread, mornings at the bakery, doing deliveries, animals, getting his allowance, coasting down hills

Dislikes: Fancy sweets, food critics, people who dislike bread, battle-obsessed trainers

Hobbies: Baking, modifying his bike, window shopping, playing at the arcade

Skills/Talents/Strengths:
Otto has a discerning sense of taste that manifests in his ability to differentiate between different ingredients and food preparation methods. He is also adept at navigation, a skill acquired from his days working as a delivery and errand boy for his parents' bakery. His strengths lie in his people skills; he has a naturally outgoing personality, and an existence spent interacting with customers on a daily basis has left him with an intense interest in the lives of others. In that aspect, he is almost fearless and impervious to embarrassment when it comes to meeting new people. For a child, he has a strong sense of the direction he wants his life to take.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears:
Friends and family alike can agree that Otto's greatest weakness would be his irresponsibility. It is likely that he will return home from a delivery horrendously late at least once a week, appearance disheveled and clothing stained with dirt. He has a taste for adventure and can do some reckless things out of curiosity, but he lacks the guts to deal with any aftermath that may result from his actions. Before his parents, Otto will talk his head off before ever admitting any instance or wrongdoing or erroneous judgment on his part. Overall, this is a manifestation of his inability to self-reflect in the moment; he has a low awareness of the immediate implications of his words and actions. As a result, he is also known for being overly honest, to the point of being indiscrete and impolite at times. However, he means well and apologizes easily if made aware of any of his social transgressions.

General Background:
Regular patrons of the Daily Loaf were surprised when Ray Foster told them that his son would be attending RBY Institute. Hadn't Ray himself retreated from the competitive scene in his twenties? Perhaps his son was different. Perhaps his son wanted a life of fame and glamour that a career baking bread wouldn't provide. But they were doubly surprised when Otto told them that he wanted to attend RBY to become a baker; wasn't RBY Institute a school for the pokemon trainer elite? How would a kid like Otto fit in? Secretly, they had their doubts about the sustainability of this aspiration. His parents, too, could not fathom why Otto hadn't at least chosen a culinary school.

But it may be better to start with a story about the humble beginnings of the Daily Loaf. The Fosters had built the store from the ground up with their combined savings when Lira Reed, a baker from a family of bakers, had decided to settle down with the newly retired Ray Foster. While they eventually managed to carve out a customer base for themselves on a quiet street in Saffron City, the arrival of a new line of storefronts in their neighborhood, along with a Kalosian patisserie, drastically changed the type of people who frequented the area. They began to lose business, and their baked sweets also dropped in popularity due to competition against the La Songerie.

While the owners of the two establishments sought to build a cordial relationship, their sons often butted heads due to differences in financial background, and their own stubborn loyalties to their respective parents' artisanship. This rivalry between Otto Foster and Enzo Beaumont even extended into their school life, where petty arguments often broke out -- arguments which divided the children and even some of the teachers into two camps. As a prim and proper, angelic-looking transfer student, Enzo Beaumont had the support of most of his female classmates, as well as most of the teaching staff (though they rarely showed open favoritism), which left Otto with his band of friends, most of them bitterly jealous of Enzo.

After one particularly vicious spat that led to a full-out food fight in the cafeteria, their teachers decided the best way to settle their rivalry in an amicable way was to host a baking competition in the Home EC room. The class decided on making fruit tarts, and the teachers were appointed as judges. In the weeks before the contest, Otto practiced tirelessly until he could bake a tart that his uncle could admit was "pretty good, for a kid like Otto". However, on the day of judgement, he failed spectacularly when he presented his tart before the judging panel and his tart's crust began to sag and fall apart.

Otto refused to go to school for the next two days, staying at home to bake more tarts than the Foster family knew what to do with. Even his uncle couldn't bribe him to stop with the usual unusual overseas trinket. He was only convinced when he woke up on the third day to find that Sol had secretly eaten all of the tarts he'd baked, and had to be taken to the Pokemon Center to recover. Otto finished the rest of the year without further incident, but secretly resolved to grow as a person, a baker and a friend to all Pokemon. He applied to RBY Institute with the help of his uncle, and was miraculously accepted without his parents' knowledge. Though they were shocked and angry when they found out, and refused to even entertain the idea of sending their irresponsible child off without supervision, they eventually came around when his uncle and Sol pleaded his case. It was good that their child felt so strongly motivated about achieving his life's objectives, and perhaps living without them under the supervision of the prestigious RBY Institute staff would teach him some responsibility. Thus, the Fosters sent Otto off with their reluctant blessings, as well as with lots of baked bread and flour.

Future Goal: To bake delicious bread for humans and pokemon alike (and beat that snooty Enzo Beaumont from La Songerie)

About the Pokemon
First/Chosen Pokemon: Snivy
Nickname (Optional): Sol
Appearance:

250px-495Snivy.png

Likes (2+): Afternoon walks, taking warm baths, personal space, sunbathing
Dislikes (2+): Boat rides, crowding, being ordered around, fruit tarts

Relationship with trainer:
It wouldn't be quite right to call Otto Sol's trainer... In fact, Sol is often the one making demands. While Otto often complains about Sol being so high-maintenance, the boy still makes sure that the pokemon is happy and comfortable. However, that says less about Sol's persuasive skills and more about Otto's weakness to the people and things he cares about. In return, Sol reins in some of Otto's more uncouth behaviors and tries to keep him out of trouble. While the two appear to be a bickering couple, they are steadfast partners who work well together when things get rough.

Other(Optional): Sol takes special pride in the gloss of his emerald coat.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?
Otto hopes to gain greater perspective on human and pokemon relationships. He also wishes to learn more about pokemon abilities, constitutions, and diet preferences. In doing so, he wants to improve his baking skills so he can make food that will improve the mental and physical health and capabilities of pokemon, as well bring humans and pokemon closer together through food.

How does pokemon affect your character’s life?

From a young age, Otto has observed the social interactions between humans and pokemon, whether it be between customers and their pokemon or his friends and family and their pokemon. Over time, he has developed a strong belief in the emotional dependence of people and pokemon on each other, even outside the realm of competitive battling. In particular, he sees human and pokemon relationships as a type of mutual partnership that requires the happiness and consent of both parties.

Describe how your character caught their first pokemon:

"What!?" Ray Foster stared at his younger brother in disbelief for a long moment before slapping a hand to his face in distress. "You know what, I'm not even going to ask why you thought it would be a good idea to kidnap your soon-to-be ex-wife's Snivy."

"Ray, kidnap is a strong word. She told me take care of Sol, but she didn't say I had to stay in Unova to do it!" Anton Foster attempted a smile, but the light in his expression all but disappeared when the older man shot him a cold glower.

"Now's not the time to be cheeky. Do you have any idea where he could be? Where have you been staying? He can't have gone too far."

"The small inn over by Route 7. Otto's already on the job, so I don't think I have to..."

A twitch of Ray's jaw was signal enough for Anton to backtrack: "You know, my nephew is really kind and capable and generous. He obviously gets it from his father."

Ray sighed, his wrinkled forehead loosening slightly. "Enough flattery already. If you're making my son clean up after your mess, you'd better be looking for the Snivy too."

"Well..." Anton licked his lips nervously. "The problem is that Sol doesn't like me all that much... I mean, he did run away... Ha... ha..."

---
"Uhh... Soool? Soo-ool! 'S that your name?" Otto waded through patches of tall grass, pausing often to inspect the area for any movement. Nothing. Not even the local wildlife rustled through the greenery -- which was strange, if Otto stopped to think about it. But the boy had never been the sharpest tool in the shed, so he continued on with no suspicions of anything being amiss.

"Hey, Soo-ool! Are you from Kalos? 'Cuz your name reminds me of a certain arrogant butthead I know!" Otto chuckled to himself before plopping down onto the ground in exhaustion. "Yep, the most stuck-up boy you'll ever meet. Si vous voulez bien m'excuser... Mon père is calling for me to help him make real sweets." Otto mimicked in a high and thin voice before exaggerating a grimace.

"Ugh... My mom's pies are real sweets." He muttered to himself. "What are those stupid fancy little overpriced cakes anyway? None of it will ever be as homemade as the stuff we bake." He rolled in the grass a few times in frustration before sitting up abruptly.

"Hey, Soo-ool! If you aren't coming out, I'm going home! Really, I'm going to leave! You can stay out here in the cold and eat nasty bug guts, or you can come with me and have some of Dad's poffins." Otto didn't know if the Snivy was really in the area, but surely his voice was loud enough to be heard for miles around. And if he was a runaway, he would choose poffins over bug guts any day.

"Okay, I'm leaving now~! I'm not coming back!" Otto backed up and circled around to his bike lying in the grass.

"Really, I'm not coming back..." At the resulting silence, he felt a small doubt niggle at the back of his mind over whether or not the Snivy had been anywhere close at all. He sighed and mounted his bike. Maybe he could try the area further out by Celadon City...

"-Woah!"

Otto suddenly felt a force jerk him to the ground and found himself face down with a mouthful of grass and dirt.

"Pwah! What was that?" Spitting and wiping furiously at his face, he struggled to his feet and looked down in confusion. Something had pulled at his ankle --

-- Something thin and green entwined around his leg. What he had glimpsed strongly convinced him that it was possibly... most likely... a SNAKE. Was it poisonous? Could snakes smell fear? A whimper escaped him as he inched his gaze downward, ready to confront the horror of a beady-eyed menace staring back...

It was only a vine; there was even a leaf on the tendril that seemed to wave at him tauntingly. Otto released a shaky breath and whispered a promise to finish all of his homework if he could just find the Snivy already and go home without any more trouble, before moving to extricate his leg from the strange plant matter. He was in a grassy field and he was pretty sure that he hadn't seen any climbing vines while he had been exploring.

"SsssnIVY!"

Otto gasped, his eyes lighting up as he turned toward the call. "Snivy!" He dashed forward in excitement, but his path was thwarted by another vine that redirected him into a crash and a sprawl onto the ground.

"Tss... Ow." He rubbed his scraped elbow and gave the pokemon a look of reproach. "Hey, what was that for?!"

As if the Snivy hadn't heard him, he padded forward and gave the boy a once over before sniffing dismissively, and then rummaging into the boy's bag. Having sought out what he was looking for, Sol curled around Otto's only sweet bun in contentment and began to demolish it with frightening speed.

Otto crept forward and sat down to watch. "It's good right? Bet you haven't eaten since morning." He smiled to himself and poured out a cup of water from his thermos. "Don't choke or Uncle Anton will kill me." Sol gave a look of acknowledgement and slowed down his pace, occasionally dipping into the water for a drink.

"You full now? Let's go!" Otto made sure that the pouch of his bag was secure before he got ready to ride back to Saffron City at top speed. The sun was almost setting, his clothing was dirty, his parents were going to kill him... but he'd found Sol.

"Sol?" Oh no no no. He pawed through his bag, as if the Snivy could contort itself to hide in one of the tiny nooks and crannies. Finally, his hand fell upon the stray Pokeball he'd won at the arcade yesterday, the one he had been agonizing over on what to use it on. It wiggled slightly beneath his touch, and Otto swore he could feel a bump aimed against his palm. The boy packed up and rode home in quiet contentment.
