  the beginning

  eden was born in chermside, a suburb of brisbane, queensland, australia. life was... rough from the get go. his mother was hardly ever home, heading off to who know's where (to this day, he's still never found out), and his father spent the day asleep on the couch, leftover food wrappers piled up next to him. the sleeping man never heard the infant eden's cries, cries that grew significantly louder as the day wore on. eventually, it became so unbearable that neighbours actually broke down the front door of the flat and retrieved the crying infant from the confines of the place. there, they calmed the baby, changed and fed him.
  
  this continued for a few years; mother disappearing, father falling asleep and neighbors taking care of eden's basic needs and care. even after he started kindergarten, he found himself heading to the neighbours flats instead of his own after school if he didn't have any other activities. they took care of him. they let him bathe, they let him eat a decent meal instead of letting him go hungry for the day, let him sleep on an actual bed or couch instead of the few pillows he'd arrange on the splintery floorboards or the cold, unforgiving porcelain bath.

  the middle

  the primary school years went by in a flash and he was soon entering secondary school. by the time eden entered year 9, he was working at a local pizza place after school, answering phones and manning the cash register. it didn't pay much, but helped put some food on the table. in year 10 he got another job tutoring primary school kids. in year 11, senior secondary school, he also got a job in a local record store. whenever he was on shift, sales were great, so the manager increased his shifts and his wages. more money was earned, more food was being placed on the table, more bills were being paid. all good things. but he still worked at the pizza place and still tutored kids after school, meaning time to do his own homework, time to study, time to eat and time to sleep were limited, and it all took a toll on him. he would go to bed around 1am and wake at 6am for school and repeat the same cycle.
  
  the older he became, the less he saw of his parents. come year 11, he saw his mother once every few months when she came to ask him for what little money he'd managed to put aside and his father once ever two to three weeks when he barged into the flat and collapsed in the kitchen, completely dead to the world and gone by the time eden awoke the next morning. this suited him just fine; he was used to getting by on his own. after all, he's done so his entire life.

  eden graduated from high school and attended the local university on a full academic scholarship. three years later and he emerged with his bachelors degree. but unlike past years, where he was content to finish a year of school and allow everything to remain as it was, eden had had enough. so, after checking to make sure he'd saved enough money over the years, he booked a flight and was soon on his way out of brisbane.
  
  the first few months weren't easy. he was going door to door, business to business, looking for a job with no success, couch surfing on those willing to open their sofas for the evening. eventually, a job was somehow landed at one of the city's most prestigious nightclubs, a job eden still doesn't know how he got. but he's managed to hold it for over two years, now works full time, and has even gotten promoted to one of the top bartenders (not quite manager yet). he's also moved into an apartment in one of the nicer districts of the city. he can only hope everything remains as is.
