It's the year 2184, and the world is... not destroyed, but not what it use to be.
Global warming and climate change caused an increase in natural disasters and droughts. Pollution from factories began harming nearby wildlife, including people. Crime and war became a much more serious problem. At the time it was big, but what it would cause would be devastating.

That was all 2020, and now it's 2184, more than 100 years later. Nature has reclaimed most of the world and ruins of cities are either completely gone or home to dangerous wildlife. A strange disease has appeared which can mutate animals into dangerous forms, but completely lethal in humans. There aren't many people left, either. Those who are still alive either live in primitive, secluded tribes across the world and clans or are by themselves with nobody to trust, and rely on weapons such as axes, swords, spears and bows. Guns are a rare and valuable thing.

The story takes place two weeks before the end of winter, in the state (not city) of New York. This is because southern-mid areas of America suffer from hot temperatures and desertification, forcing people to move up to New York.

Todd focused his aim on a small rabbit, about two trees away. It had a darker grey fur, was large, and luckily didn't show any infection signs, stood out among the white snow. It seemed to be eating something, but he couldn't make out what. He breathed in and out, released the bow and the wooden arrow shot through the air, striking right through the bunny's head. It fell down and blood flowed from it. He climbed down the tree and ran through the snow to it, picking up the arrow and drawing his machete. "Finally, some dinner," he said to himself, smiling. It was rare to find something at this season.

He began to skin and remove the fur, which he wasn't sure if he would use it or not. He took the meat from the rabbit and stored it in his leather pouch, still bloody and raw. It stained it a bit. He walked through the forest, on his way back to his camp, thoughts circling through his head.

Christian woke up slowly, smiling when he saw his wife beside him. "Hi." He murmured, his voice rough with sleep. He kissed her shoulder lightly before pausing, frowning. No. His wife was...

As he always did when he started to remember, he jerked awake for real, chest heaving, eyes immediately seeking the spot on his bed where his wife had just been, seeing nothing. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. His wife had died in labor, when she'd been barely twenty. It seemed they'd been cursed to not have a child, between fertility issues and their stillborn son. They'd both been so happy when their daughter was born, but she'd started bleeding, and she hadn't stopped.

Christian stood up, grabbing a wife beater and pulling it on before kneeling in front of his bag and digging through it, finding one pouch of food. He'd have to go hunting again, soon. He'd been working on a bow, it was time to test it out anyways. "Amber!" He called, picking up the makeshift bow and a knife, which he tucked into his waistband. He'd made a few rudimentary arrows, he wasn't sure how they'd work.

The Kid

Andrew shook his head, squinting his eyes slightly as he pulled the string of the slingshot back. It was loaded with a small stone, excellent for cracking skulls. He quickly did the math with his aim, grimacing. With his position, it'd be difficult to hit. He raised his arm slightly, exhaling slowly. It was a deer, the first he'd seen in months. He couldn't afford to miss it.

He released the sling, watching the stone fly and hit the deer perfectly in the head, dropping it. He sprinted forward, immediately recoiling. The creature was deformed by mutations, inedible. He cursed quietly, retrieving his stone and continuing to walk. He was starving for fresh food, he was sick of dehydrated and canned stuff.

After a few minutes of trying, he found a squirrel and a bird, taking his pickings back to his little campground in the middle of the woods, sitting easily and starting his fire.

"It's getting late, it will be dark soon." Maxwell thought to himself, as he looked at the sky. He felt like the day has just begun, and yet, it was already dusk. How?

Winter. Of course this was all of this fricking season's fault. Short day, cold day, long night. Geez, Maxwell loathed this particualr season. Winter sucked, and he was glad it was soon coming to an end. Spring was better. he could change his current outfit, made of fur, for a more lighter one. maybe he'll find some old clothes in the nearest town, who knows? If not, he could still use his preys to make a leather jacket. yeah, that could be good.

His eyes stopped looking at the sky, to focus on one of his homemade bags. One rabbit, one squirrel. He will have a good meal tonight, for sure. However, he was too far away from his main camp, so he'll make a campfire for this night. This never bothered Maxwell to sleep out of his "main camp", if he could call the firepit he did a while ago a "main camp". To be honest, Maxwell slept more ouside this camp than the contrary. He always brought most of his stuff with him, just in case he had to run away. you never know, woods are dangerous, and not only the animals...

Liz and frederick were cooking bear stew from their kill before, of course they did feel some what bad but at the end of the day it's either you or the animal one you smell the spices in the not so far distance. Frederick could hear footsteps somewhere near by so he puts on his gloves and walks half way towards the woods paying careful attention to his surroundings.

Liz continues to cook and every so often testing the stew to see if it's ready to eat and she shock her head and then after about an hr or so puts the food in the bowls frederick had brought and calls" When your done playing hide and seek come and eat it won't be long before the bear stew gets cold and it's not anywhere near as nice when it's cold".

Todd was unaware there was another group close by. He walked through the snow and not too far away were the ruins of a town, the one he had been camping in. Tomorrow morning his plan was to head back home to the city ruins, and hopefully find some other people. He was aware he wasn't "okay".

He arrived in the town and walked down the road, and opened the door of an abandoned
gardening shack. Inside there was a fire pit, unlit but there were bags of supplies, safe from rotting because of the cold. He kneeled down and searched through the bags, grabbing a box of matches; only two remained. He started the fire and made preparations to cook. He was ready for the next day.

The shack unknown to the man there are traps activated because he didn't pay attention to the wires connecting them, now it was only a matter of time before the traps, liz then remembered that she hadn't checked the shed in a couple of days and figured now was about time to check it.

Todd had unintentionally set off a trap, and the next thing he knew his leg was in the air and some sort of strong rope or wire held it up. He yelled in shock and shook around, but it was no use struggling. He was trapped, and there wasn't a way down. "For fucks sake.." He felt it was his fault for not being careful, but there wasn't time to think of it.

He tried to grab his machete and drew it, attempted to cut off whatever held him up. "Just.. get off..." He mumbled, clearly angry and frustrated.

Maxwell was about to set his campfire for the night, and finally, cooking his preys and eat them, when he sudently heard noises coming from deeper in the forest. Quickly, almost like a reflex, Maxwell took his bow and arrows. Each time the man heard a noise coming from an animal or even just coming from the forrest itself, he had to take his weapons. He learned it the hard way, alongside his father. If he wasn't here with him back then, the infected deer could have killed the only heir of the now-gone Rockfield clan. From now on, Maxwell wasn't even risking it.

After taking back all his stuff, he starter to slowly go into the forrest, silently listening from where the noises were coming.

"For fucks sake.."

Maxwell stopped. That wasn't a dream right? he just heard someone, someone... human? Not an infected creature for once? A rictus appeared on his face. Finally. He wasn't sociable, but he missed some human contacts. He continued to walk, when he finally met the sources of the noise.

"Why, hello there mister." Maxwell said, an amused smile on his face. "Looks like you have a hard time, wanna some help?"

As he walked to the fallen machete, a sound came to his ears and he turned back, bending his bow, ready to kill whatever would come ou tof the woods if it was dangerous.

"Hey!" Maxwell shouted, with the most theatening voice he could have, "Who's there? Show yourself, coward!". The man looked at the other trapped guy. he could wait a few more minutes, Maxwell's life was more worth than his.

Fredrick appears from the shadows his gloves on with some wire out and he sighs and says" If i wanted you dead you'd be dead from where i'm standing all i have to do it tug at the wire to the side of the shed and many more traps will spring sure you might dodge some but you'll be in a world of pain, many have tried to steal from us along this journey, some ran for the hills others well i'm sure i don't need to say it again".

Fredrick paused for a minute then says"
I'll cut him down but if either you pull anything funny you won't get a dam thing". Fredrick disarms the traps and then walks in the shed and cuts him down with the wire from his gloves and then leans against the wall and waits to see what he has to say for him self

Todd hit the ground with a large thump. "Aurgh..." He got up and dusted himself up, turning to Fredrick and his face was clearly astonished, but he didn't seem to show it directly. "I can't.. I can't believe it!! I haven't seen another human for years! Years, I tell you! IT'S BEEN TOO LONG," he yelled. He quickly then glanced to the side, over at Maxwell. He took a good look at him. The eyepatch stood out and he was wearing animal furs and hide. He then took a good look at Fredrick; seemed pretty normal for the most part. He realized he was acting a bit over the top, maybe even a bit mad. So he sighed and calmed down.

"Well, this is akward to ask, but to celebrate seeing some people after a while, and to owe you for trying to steal your stuff, all three of us can share this meal I caught," he said. He'd pull out the small leather sack and opened it. Inside there was meat, not alot but enough for everyone. There were four legs and some of the body meat. "Well, do you accept or not?" He knew it was strange to ask after what just happened, but he needed to socialize after such long isolation.

Maxwell frowed the guy that appeared from the shadows and growled, before giving him a provocative smile.

«I have many hidden talents. Who knows, maybe i could dodge all of them.» He answered to the guy. However, his first priority was to survive, and he slowly lowered his bow, showing he wasn't going to hurt anyone, for the moment at least.

He looked at the now not-anymore-trapped fellow and his eyes narrowed when he started screaming. Did he realized he could warn dangerous ennemies or infected creatures? How imprudent of him. Howerver, Maxwell remained silent. Guess he didn't wanted to make the guy sad. He looked really happy to see other human being, heh, he even asked if they wanted to share a meal. Heh, after all... More, all he caught todat could be wasted if he didn't eat them all by himself. Why not after all. If the shadow man could make such traps maybe they could be strong allies to stay with.

«Not enough food for everyone,» Maxwell answered, looked at the meat. «Good thing i went hunting today.» He said, showing his dead preys. «Let's share, i guess.»

Conversing with
N/A
A dark figure was motioning behind her. She looked back, running and running. Continuous running before she looked back and... nothing. The small auburn haired female was alone in an abandoned alley way. She could not feel anything but cold wind brushing against her pale skin as the alley kept getting darker and darker. She motioned forward alone, looking at the rather dull cobbled walls before she felt something grab her little wrist which caused her to scream.

She jolted up from her wake, forehead beaded with sweat trailing down to her cheeks as she laid down in her little blanket. It was the dream... or rather nightmare once again. The same one recurring over and over again. The little girl clutched her blanket just panting. It was that time that she heard a male voice. A familiar voice that always comforted her but she just couldn't respond.

"Amber!" was all she heard before she tried to make herself less shaky and wiping her face so she wouldn't worry her father. She did not like it when she did so. But it seemed as if he always read through her. Her father was all she had ever since her mother passed away. How she wished that she could have seen her face... and touch her. How she wants to feel her mother's warm hug. She lifted her legs and hoisted her knees up to her chest and just huddled.

Looking down at the side she saw a small piece of parchment. It had a drawing on it of a female. An older version of her. It was her mother, Anna. According to her father she is growing up to be like her, in looks. The same auburn hair and the same light blue eyes and slightly freckled face. She smiled at the thought of her but it immediately washed over with the sudden realization she was not there.
